Trendy Plus Size Clothes – Spring Fashion Trends 2012

The sun is shining and there’s a lovely warm breeze at your back. Spring has arrived, and it’s time to clean out your wardrobe to make room for Spring Fashion Trends. So what does this year hold for us?

As if to celebrate the light aromas on the winds, there’s going to be lace – whole shirts, dresses and of course trim. There will also be a plethora of floral prints springing to your store racks just like as the crocus just begin showing their buds.

In terms of color, anticipate two directions – one is bright and bold and the other nutral and gentle. This mirrors what’s happening with eye makeup this year, complete with a little nostalgic nodd to the 1960s hues, geometrics, stripes and other whimsical patterns. Orange is definitely the hot color this year followed very closely by red. Of course black and white never go out of fashion, its just how they’re used. This is a great time to get a new “little black dress” or some crisp white shirts. The beauty of black and white is their ability to mix and mingle with the rest of your wardrobe effortlessly.

For those special occasions or nights out – you’ll find dresses and skirts decorated with rhinestones or sequins. The overall preferred line is a little more square – so if you have broad shoulders watch out for dresses with shoulder pads (if you love the dress, remove the pads since you don’t need that help).

Spring fashion trends in slacks have moved toward a flair bottom and high waist. Pair these with kitten heels and a smart looking skinny belt and belt bag and you’re ready for nearly anything.

For accessories, shirts, dresses, vests and skirts crochet is back. In some instances its being used as an accent, and in others as the “fabric” for the piece.

In the bedroom romance has returned. While the classical comfortable pajama is still readily available, nightgowns and robes that whisper of the silver screen have returned – particularly in silk and satin. There’s no question that these celebrate the feminine curves, as do many of the seasons dresses made with very light fabrics that move with you. Some of the cuts have distinctive Greco-Roman influences particularly in the use of pleats or off the shoulder designs.

On the sportswear front, spring fashion trends continue with a floral or geometric themes and slightly richer colors. You’ll also see urban wear that has strong tribal overtone and a few hints of 1920s fashions with flapper playfulness.

This year’s faux fur designs are really interesting. We are seeing more and more of it, especially in more casual designs. It wasn’t so long ago that ago that all of them were just faux copies of mink coats. The current designs are trendy and really nice.

I love this Faux Fur Hooded Jacket – it is such a new and fresh look – combining the beauty of faux fur and the casual-ness of a hoodie. It is a wonderful way to add a toch of fur to your casual wardrobe. If you live in your blue jeans and think you can’t have a fur coast – well, here you go…

It is a very nice 32″ long and has a deep fur that has visible grooves, just like the real thing. It features a hood with drawstrings and silver toggles, a zip front and elastic cuffs.

There is one place that has the best selection of plus size faux fur coats that you would probably never think to look.

Dennis Basso designs a wonderful line for QVC that includes mostly outerwear and a lot of faux fur. (Dennis Basso is an internationally known couture fur designer.) Latest Female Fashion Trends for Fall 2011 includes Bright Colors

One of the Latest Female Fashion Trends for Fall 2011 & Winter is lots of bright and bold colors. We’re not seeing many neutral colors this season and I have yet to read anything about “fall’s neutrals”. I am, however, seeing a lot of black and gray – but they are mostly mixed with brighter colors.

The two big colors this season are Red and Teal Blue – a big yeah! from me, they are two of my favorites. Some of the other colors being touted this season are Rust, Orange and Mustard, but honestly, very few people can pull these color off. While you can find a red to go with any skin tone and teal blue looks good on just about everyone, rust & mustard (or gold) are warmer colors that just aren’t flattering to most complexions. Another popular color that is also flattering to most and will be abundant this season is Jade Green.

Brightly colored pants – especially colored jeans – are predicted to be huge this fall, but I haven’t seen too many available in plus size yet. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them crop up.

Another trend I expect to see carried over from last fall and winter is brightly colored leather coats.

Here are some of my favorite ways to incorporate this season’s color trends in your wardrobe:

This is definitely the season of the red dress – there is a huge selection and most of them are gorgeous. I have my eye on a red maxi-dress for the holidays.

Add a new piece is one of this season’s signature colors with the neutral pieces you already have. All of the colors will look great with black – so add a bright bulky sweater to your favorite black pants or skirt. The beautiful colors are also denim friendly, so update your blue jean look with a brightly colored top. Add a pop of color as a blouse, top or shell to your suit and look instantly updated.

These colors are also prevalent in outerwear, so you can brighten up your winter coat or jacket with a new bright color. If you can’t go that far, add another of this season’s top hit – the fringed scarf – in a bold color to wear with your coats and jackets.

Fashion Trends Today – Bohemian Chic for Fall 2011

One of the hottest Fashion Trends Today is being called “Bohemian Chic”. It is an updated, eclectic look that borrows from the past’s gypsy, hippie and peasant styles.

This style is also called Boho Chic and it is all about expressing your individuality. The true look is achieved with layers of clothing that have different elements – different colors, patterns or textures and layered accessories. This look is inspired by the current 1970s influence.

This can be a hard look to pull off – especially for those of us who are plus sized. It is much easier to embrace your Bohemian side and still be trendy with one or two carefully chosen items – such as a flowing, retro style tunic, a peasant top with your jeans or a prairie or broomstick skirt. Also Maxi Dresses are very popular again this season, look for one with your Boho style and add sandals and layered bracelets.

Here are some ways to release your inner Boho Chic:

Dresses - Look for Maxi Dresses with a prairie or bohemian vibe – there are many from which to choose. Add in a cute pair of boots and some chunky accessories and you are good to go.

Tops – Adding a cute bohemian top or tunic to wear with your blue jeans is the easiest way to get the look. There are many great choices this fall.

Skirts are a big part of this look. This season’s skirts fit the bill perfectly – they are longer, from mid-calf all the way to the floor, full or flowing and detailed with ruffles or lace. Again the perfect pair of boots will seal the deal.

Sweaters – I have seen some adorable cardigans and even sweater vests this season that are definitely in the boho vibe. I also love a chunky sweater with a long and lowing mid-calf denim skirt and boots. ANother great look is the ponchos that will be popular this season.

Accessories – the top boho accessories this fall include chunky brown leather belts, chunky stacked bangle bracelets, metallic or other eclectic headbands, long fringed scarves (striped or other prints), a floppy felt hat, platform shoes and boots, chunky necklaces and earrings and fringed suede anything – vest, handbag, belt, etc.

Lace Continues as a Hot Fashion Trend for Fall 2011. Lace has been a current fashion trend for several seasons and it continues in to the fall and winter. In addition to the lace embellishments, we are seeling more all over lace pieces this season – like the lace tee-shirt, cardigan or even dress.

Menswear inspired and Boyfriend styles continue and an all over lace t-shirt will bring instant femininity. The big fashion for the spring and summer was lace with a vintage vibe – we will still be seeing that. But we will also be seeing new edgier uses of lace. As we move forward to the holidays and winter, lace and velvet will be a hot trend.

Here are some of the ways to wear lace this fall:

Tunics – Flowing lace trimmed tunics have a beautiful femininity and can be worn casual with jeans or leggings, or dressed up with dress pants or a pretty skirt. There are some lovely longer (midi to maxi) length skirts this season – but a tunic and a long flowing skirt is a hard look to pull off, especially if you are on the shorter side. Balance the length and volume of the tunic with a more narrow, shorter skirt.

Shirts – Lace trimmed shirts and tee shirts and even all lace shirts will be available. Add one under your blazer, boyfriend jacket or even suit to add a little feminine touch. These will also look wonderful with the longer, flowing skirts – or even a maxi skirt. You can replace your standard, go to shell top with a lace version for an instant update. I hope as the season progresses we will see more lace pieces in this fall’s bright and bold colors.

Blouses - lace trimmed blouses, from pretty insets of battenberg lace to lace trimmed ruffles and all over lace blouses are all available. I think we are seeing more pretty blouses this season than in a long time. A pretty blouse is another great look with a longer skirt.

Cardigans – are a staple this season and some of them are all lace. This is a great way to transition into the fall while the weather is warmer, but we want to dress for fall.

Dresses - are a big deal this season and many of them will be lace trimmed. Many special occasion dresses are all over lace.

This is a frustrating time fashion wise – the calendar and stores say it is fall and time for fall fashion, but evidently Mother Nature didn’t get the memo & it is still summer outside! I LOVE these two new Avenue tops as transitional pieces to wear now and stay comfortable, but they have a fall look. Both of them could be layers over long sleeve black tops or turtlenecks when it gets cooler.

Both tops are available on the Avenue website in sizes 14/16W, 18/20W, 22/24W, 26/28W. The Colorblock Cardigan is 29 inches long & has a price tag of $39.99. The Argyle Cowl Neck Sweater – which totally has my name written all over it – is 32 inches long (what a coincidence, my ideal tunic length - I feel a purchase coming on!) and is also $39.90.

Both tops are acrylic and nylon knit and are machine washable.

“Skinny Jeans” are tight & close fitting to the body. They are “curve hugging”, but not necessarily skin tight.
Sometimes the lined gets blurred between skinny jeans, jeggings and/or denim leggings.
All of them fit very close to the body, all the way down to the hem.

Wide Leg Jeans

Out of all of the styles, these are the most trendy
Can range from bell bottom (wide at the bottom) to more of a palazzo pants style (wide all the way down)
This style is very popular now with a fitted waist
Expect to see more of this style going forward, for this fall and at least a few seasons beyond.

Plus Size Maxi Dresses for Spring & Summer

Plus Size Maxi Dresses are a very big trend for this spring & summer. I am seeing them everywhere – from the grocery store to out and about. I absolutely love Maxi Dresses and feel like a million when I am wearing them. They are so comfortable and, if you pick the right style, flattering.

I am still amazed that this trend has lasted for so many years and I, for one, hope that it never goes away!

Although Maxi Dresses are mostly casual wear, there are also styles for dressier occasions. A few years ago, I found a gorgeous emerald green maxi dress to wear to my niece’s wedding. Normally, I would have worn a dressy pants outfit. I felt really nice in my beautiful dress and received compliments all evening long.

For casual wear, you can really wear a Maxi Dress anywhere – even many work places. But I think the most fun is to wear it for casual occasions, like backyard parties or a special date.

To look your best in your Maxi Dress:

Choose a color that is flattering to you
Choose a style that is flattering to your body type. See Plus Size Maxi Dresses for tips.
Wear sandals with your Maxi Dress – something like jewel encrusted sandals or chunky platform sandals. Closed toe shoes just don’t look quite right with casual spring & summer maxi dresses.
Wear one or two pieces of bold or chunky jewelry. Bold bangle bracelets are my top choice. You can also add bold earrings – but stop there, don’t over do it! If you wear a chunky bracelet and bold earrings, either skip the necklace all together or wear a fine chain or pendant. If you prefer a bold necklace, you might want to scale back on the size of your earrings.
If you’re feeling a little pale, try a shimmering and / or bronzing body lotion to give you a little glow.

Lace Plus Size Tops & Blouses – Spring Fashion Trend

Lace Plus Size Tops & Blouses are a big fashion trend for this spring and summer. This season’s designs have a new look – many of them are all over lace with an under layer. Many of them have a vintage look with updated details like the wider or kimono style sleeves we are seeing this season. I love this trend because it is so fresh and feminine.

I love this beautiful black lace top – it would look awesome with white capri pants and black platform sandals for a great casual look, or it could be paired with one of the longer, fuller black skirts for a dressier look. This great top (see link below) is also available in a gorgeous teal and a delicate ivory in sizes 14w to 32w. The lace is lovely and the open wing sleeves give it a completely updated look.

If you prefer tunics or longer tops, this is a beautiful ivory lace tunic. It has an uneven draped hem and is 28″ long. It is also available in black and comes in sizes 14 to 32. I love how the body is full lined, but the short sleeves are left sheer – very nice for summer. I think this tunic would look stunning with capri length black plus size leggings with black ballet flat shoes.

If all-over lace is not your style, you may prefer this great lace trimmed tank top – it would look great not only with jeans or even denim shorts, but also dressier pants and skirts. This great top comes in six color choices – white, black, turquoise, raspberry, chartreuse (one of the hottest colors this season) and orange – in sizes 14w to 32w.

Convertible Plus Size Pants, Capri Pants & Shorts ~ Trendy Plus Size Pick of the Day

I just added Plus Size Convertible Pants to the website and thought these great pants, capri pants and shorts would make a great Pick of the Day.

Woman Within has these pants in four lengths – regular, capri and shorts. Each can be shortened by rolling up the hem and using the button tab to hold them in place.

The full length pants convert from pants length, 30”, to capri length, 23”.
The capri pants convert from capri length, 21”, to bermuda shorts length, 13”.
The shorts convert from bermuda length, 13”, to shorts length, 9”.
Of course, since you are rolling up the hem, you could really go anywhere between the two lengths.

All three lengths are cargo style with flap pockets. They have an elastic drawstring waist and are cotton. They come in sizes 12W to 34W and in colors stone (light khaki), chocolate, olive green, dark navy and black.
