'Newbies’ remember the May, 2011 LSM Ride in Long Beach, Calif.

A year ago this time, the known population of the Southern California Trikke community was perhaps forty people and a monthly event called the Last Saturday of the Month Ride had occurred three times, drawing a total of 29 riders. Then May rolled around and the LSM Ride in Long Beach proved to be a watershed moment for the So Cal carving scene.

Long Beach Lighthouse will anchor the day

TrikkeWorld and SouthBay Trikke are teaming up with So Cal Carvers for a Last Saturday of the Month Ride like no other. That's because the May LSM Ride in Southern California will be a day in the park, featuring food, fun, riding and games, all to celebrate the start of the summer carving season.

For the first time, the meeting place for this month’s LSM in Long Beach is not Shoreline Village. Instead, that distinction goes to Shoreline Aquatic Park, aka Lighthouse Park, which offers panoramic views of the Queen Mary and downtown Long Beach.

Tunnels and trestles treat riders on this Southern trek

From Idaho’s Trail of the Couer d’ Alenes — featured in last week’s edition of Trailsnet Trikke Trails — let’s head southeast to Georgia for a look at the Silver Comet Trail, located just west of Atlanta. The official eastern trailhead is in Smyrna, GA, and although the Silver Comet itself is only 62 miles long, it connects with the Chief Ladiga Trail in Alabama for a grand total of 100 trail miles … and the whole thing is paved for smooth carving.

The Trikke T12 Roadster, the vehicle that some call the Cadillac Escalade of Trikkes, has just received a facelift, as first announced by SouthBay Trikke’s Andy Pliska on Facebook earlier today. [See video after the break.]

With a month to go before the Trikke Academy visits Philadelphia for the first time, only two spots remain for the Academy’s weekend seminar in June, while the Saturday Riding Clinikk is sold out. This according to Ann Pirone, coordinator for the institution where Trikke Trainers are made.

She survived trauma and is now riding high on her Trikke

I’m having the best time on my machine and cannot believe how a few pieces of metal have changed my life and my body. I average 8-11 miles per ride and have watched my weight drop and my body get firmer.

In September, I had my first wipe-out. I went flying so fast, I didn’t have time to be scared. One of the ladies who came to my rescue blamed it on my Trikke and, boy, did I ever defend my Bluebelle.
