Dreams and Goals

Have you ever had a dream that turned into a goal?

Is there really a difference?

To me dreams are something you wish for and goals are something you work for, well today I turned my dreams into goals.

I have always wanted to have my own home decor business. I even have a name for it, Neutral Territory. I love neutrals, especially white, with splashes of color. Finishes that have texture and a history, one of a kind treasures that really make your house, your home.

My business would be all about neutral colored decor, one stop shopping for that perfect home accessory. Yes, it will take a while but baby steps turn into big steps. All with the direction and guidance of a loving and faithful God. He has blessed me so much.

The other part of that goal is where I want this business to be, Savannah, Georgia. The city is steeped in history, which I love. So much to see and do and be a part of the life there. Not to mention Tybee Island and a dream of having a little beach cottage near the water. I can feel the sun on my face now.

My favorite designer, Jane Coslick, is in Savannah and her designs always inspire me to follow that goal.

It will happen. In a little over two short years from now. Responsibilities keep me from Savannah right now but the time will come for my life there and I can't wait.

Personalized Certificates

Thought I would share a little tutorial of sorts for a personalized certificate that was made for our single adult minister at church. We were having a costume party and decided that we would recognize her for all she does for the single adults.

Don't know that I would actually call this a tutorial so much but this is what I put together.

This is basically all you need: frame, scrapbook paper and clear translucent paper found in scrapbook section. I did try Vellum but the design of the colored paper behind didn't show up as well.

Below is a closer shot of the translucent paper. All you do is print on the clear paper and layer in your frame. You probably will need to cut down to size but it can't get any easier than that. Try different colored papers and test the color effect before you cut. I found the brighter the color behind the better the appearance in the front.

Below is a close up shot of the wording. You could do this for a wide variety of certificates and awards. Especially considering you could do any kind of font and color combo. You can put in a simple frame like this one or a fancier frame to suit the recipient.

I think I'm addicted!!!

I never was the kind of person that liked having things tight around my neck but as i've gotten older I have started enjoying the ever versatile scarf. And i don't think i'm alone. There seems to be an explosion of scarf making and tying in blog land. Just go look at Pinterest.

This is how I figured out the best way to utilize my scarves for easy access. This is one of those towel racks you hang over the back of the door.

The two scarves below are ones i've made recently. The first one is for an exchange student from Poland that was visiting my aunt.

I was kinda pumped to think that something I made is in Poland right now. The second one below is for my little neice in the second grade.

Me ?? Distressed?? Really??

Ok, so I hear that we are getting a Home Goods in our area which i'm really pumped about. Because we are also finally getting a Joann's Fabric and Crafts next month. I visited the Home Goods website and took this little test, Stylescope Quiz. I'm always curious about whether or not these things are accurate but to my surprise it was very accurate.

According to the quiz my style is Country Classic and this is what the results said, "LISA, you are a Country Classic

Well, after that I looked around my house to see what I had that was painted and distressed, here's what I found.

I've really thought about this whole thing of having a focus word each year. I see many bloggers doing it and many with great success. For whatever reason i'm getting on that band wagon. I gave alot of thought to what I wanted this year to be about and the thought kept going through my mind about all the things I have wanted to do but never followed through with. Wanted to do with good intention. See where i'm going with this?

So this year I have already turned 50, just 3 short days ago and today I decided that this year i'm going to be intentional about my actions.

Intentional about my health.

Intentional about my relationship with God.

Intentional about what I can do myself to make a fulfilling life.

Intentional about following a dream (more on that later).

Intentional about growing my blog.
Intentional about saving more for the future.

After all isn't life about purpose and meaning?

My prayer for everyone is that they find meaning in their life through purpose and intent.

Long time no post! Lots going on in my little household. Since the lay off from my job i've decided to make a change that I had planned on doing 4 years from now when my daughter graduated from high school. We are moving to Savannah, GA. Savannah is a beautiful city and so close to the beach. I'm so excited. As soon as I line up a job i'm over there!!!!!

~VISITING HISTORY~

This past weekend I took a day trip with my single adult group from church and we visited Natchez, MS. An extremely historical town, on a bluff, overlooking the Mississippi River. There was so much to see that I didn't get to take pictures of everything but here are a few.

The pictures above are at Rosalie, one of the many homes you can tour. This particular home has the best view of the river. The pictures below were taken at St. Marys Basilica, they were having saturday mass at the time so we couldn't go inside.

If you ever get a chance to visit Natchez I highly recommend the visit.

~GOD'S TALKIN' SO I'M LISTENING~

Are you a worrier? I am.I confess.I worry, alot. Always have been and what does that say about me? That I haven't placed ALL my trust in God to bring me through lifes ups and downs. Even though I say i've given it all to him.

Times are tough, we all know it, it's nothing new. I work for a small private health insurance administrator and up until last week we all still had jobs. Well, at this typing I still do have one. Last tuesday the owner proceeded to call everyone together and say that he was going to have to lay off some people. As of today we don't know who those people are going to be. It makes me worry, see where i'm going with this?

When I heard those words I did worry at first. While everyone who works needs their paycheck otherwise they wouldn't be working it's even more vital for someone like me. I'm a single mother so there is no other income to fall back on if I get layed off.

God's been talking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe more like soft gentle reminders to trust him completely. Actually for the first time in my 48 years I have truly placed this concern in my life at the foot of the cross.

So what messages has he been sending? My sunday school class is a coed single adult class and right now we have a interim teacher. This past sunday he started a series he calls facing the giants. At first I wasn't sure what he meant but now I know. Guess what he talked about? You got it, WORRY! It's almost like God head slapped me like Gibbs does to his crew on NCIS. But in a very loving way :). I listened intently so not to miss a word of what he was saying and the group involvement was great. Lisa don't worry, I have a plan God said.

This morning I open my devotional book to find my morning devotion on worrying. He did it again and the message really rang true to me.

Okay, now I get to my job that I may not be at much longer and flip up the little scripture desk calendar I have and what is the scripture for the day?

Luke 12:22-23

Then Jesus said to his disciples:

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body what you will wear.

Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothes."

HE has been talking to me about some other things in my life too and i'm listening, intently.

Are you worried about areas of your life? Even the areas that you have some control over but don't handle as well as you could? God has it taken care of so let him do it!

"Trust God will all your heart and lean not on your own understanding", I'm trusting God!

Yeah, I know like we all need another weekend project but this one looks so good it's hard to pass up. I would love to have this terracotta fountain in my yard. Maybe a litte sitting area in the back? My yard is very large and shaded which is a good thing but it has a large problem with those darn skeeters! In Your holy word You have promised to hear those who cry unto You in the day of trouble. Listen to my cries for mercy and send me help from the sanctuary of Your grace. Preserve me from bitterness of spirit, and rescue me from every temptation to despair. Calm my frustrations with the knowledge that my life is secure in Your redeeming love, for I am baptized into the death and resurrection of Your Son. Draw me out of self-centered worry, which stifles faith, and cause me to take comfort in the great and precious promises that You have made to me and all believers in the Gospel. Sustain and strengthen me under every cross and affliction, that Your grace might be made perfect in my weakness.

Well, I didn't qualify in the CSI Project Furniture Makeover. Not that I thought my project should win because I saw some beautiful furniture redone into great pieces. I guess mine was a little too unique for the judges taste. Maybe i'm not understanding how it works? The project that was the top choice wasn't even a makeover at all. This couple built an ottoman, where is the makeover part? Now they did a fabulous job but how is that "making over" a piece of furniture.

Oh well, maybe i'll try another time.

~MAGICAL MAKEOVER~

Figured I should show some furniture stuff on here since this is a blog about decorating stuff too. The chest below I bought years ago at one of our local resale stores here in Clinton. I picked it up for $35.00. Don't know how old it is but it isn't high quality.

Before:

This chest sat here for a while then one day I decided I didn't like the way it looked. I adore painted furniture and started painting everything white. Well, I like alot of white but I love color too so after a long process (because I kept adding to the design) it is finally finished.

Now, I am no artist so the professionals would probably cringe but it makes me happy and isn't that what design and your home is suppose to be all about, making us happy when we are at home?

After:

Lighting wasn't so good when these pics were taken. The knobs are original and are in great shape so I kept those. Basically the whole chest was painted white then I used painters tape and a stencil to do some of the details and the rest was freehanded. After a light sand and light distressing I applied some good ole RL Smoke to give it an "antique" look. It's not a designer show piece but it is uniquely mine and that is what makes it so special.

~ATLANTA VISIT~

July 4th weekend I went to visit my son in Atlanta. He is in school for Landscape Design and Management and he is doing a summer internship for a landscaping company there.

Had to go for a visit and the following pics are a few I took. Friday he took me to an antique shop that I loved but would never fit my budget, could have spent a million dollars there!

Saturday we went to Ikea, the Atlanta store is the closest one to Mississippi and i've heard everyone else talking about the place so I had to investigate. I LOVE Ikea! Great store and great prices.

Christopher loves contemporary design.

Then on Sunday we were off to see to the Braves play the Florida Marlins. Even though the Braves didn't win it was a good game, good seats and good weather.

This flag before the game nearly filled the field and was held up by members of different branches of our military.

This was taken on the huge flatscreen there at the field but this group entertained after the game. Yacht Rock Revue plays 70's soft rock and even wears authentic 70's clothes. Christopher asked me if this was "my" music I guess since my singing along was so obvious :)!

The weekend ended with fireworks and then back to the homestead on monday morning.

We had a great weekend and the weather was wonderful!
