I found the listing of covered bridges on *gasps* Wikipedia (we all know how resourceful this source is *eyeroll*). But once I mapped everything on our Google Maps, it did indeed show the bridges on the street view, so maybe, just MAYBE, Wikipedia is more resourceful than it’s alleged to be? Who knows?

Anyway, we headed out from the Noblesville area and ventured to the first covered bridge in Bainbridge, IN and the bridge name is Baker’s Camp Creek Covered Bridge. This bridge was built in 1901 and is 128 ft long. The surrounding area seems to be rolling hills and fields. The greater Indy area is frozen, so to see the area blanketed in snow and the water the bridge crosses over frozen was amazing.

Next bridge we went to was the Rolling Stone Covered Bridge. This one we only recorded driving over because there was no place to pull off and go take still pictures. However, this bridge was built in 1915 and is 103 ft long.

We then started heading to another bridge named Pine Bluff Covered Bridge, but as we started to head down the hill and we didn’t dare try slipping and sliding down snow covered hill to get there. Plus there was a sign earlier on the road to it that stated that it is closed in the winter season. So this one was a no-go and we will have to revisit in the future. Bummed.

After turning around and leaving the Pine Bluff bridge, we then headed to the Dunbar Covered Bridge. This one (also drive-able) was a double-span bridge, meaning there is a center support under the middle of the bridge’s length. This bridge was built in 1880 and is 174 ft long.

The last bridge we went to was impressive as we walked the grounds around it: the Cataract Falls Covered Bridge. This bridge was also listed in the article for “most impressive bridges in each state“. As the name implies, there is a waterfall near the bridge and the water fall is a two-tiered fall; the first tier being roughly 100 yards away provided for some good photography moments (other than some people sitting right smack dab in the middle on a ledge by the falls). The upper Cataract Falls is 20 ft tall and the lower falls (which was down and around the “corner” from the upper) is 18 ft tall. But what was most impressive is the fact that these falls were partially frozen!! And that alone made for even BETTER photographs and videos!

We had to trudge through some tightly packed snow beds to get to the lower falls, but not the upper as the upper has a viewing platform. The waters were so cold that parts of the river were frozen and we have a video of someone walking on water like he thinks he’s Jesus or somethin’.  Oh c’mon, you laughed at that…I know you did!

I hope you enjoyed this round of photos, I know I sure did…other than the cold! Thankfully, I bought myself a heated winter coat with some Christmas money I received. Best investment in clothing I’ve ever made…I was able to enjoy the cold AND stay warm!

We had a task to accomplish first for his job and once we completed that task, we decided to take a detour from Columbus before we headed back to the Indianapolis area for the evening. Headed southwest out of Columbus, we decided to go and sight-see another “list” attraction that I had found. I came across an article that denotes the “Most Impressive Bridge” in every state and the bridge we went to find in Ohio was in Cincinnati [https://www.loveexploring.com/gallerylist/71687/the-most-impressive-bridge-in-every-us-state-and-dc]. It is named the Roebling bridge after its creator – who is the chief mastermind of the Brooklyn Bridge in NYC; so when looking for the information about this Roebling bridge, we saw some pictures of it and it DOES indeed resemble the Brooklyn Bridge in NYC! We parked in a parking garage and moseyed across the street to the north bank of the Ohio River and walked along the shore to get up close and personal with the Roebling Bridge that connects south Cincinnati to northern Kentucky. There was even an iced-over staircase for pedestrians to cross the bridge on foot. We DID climb the icy steps but did not cross the entirety of the bridge, but we did get some photos as cars were whizzing by on steel metal gratings (like a drawbridge) with a humming sound I won’t soon forget.



We also took in some other sites as well – a meditation labyrinth and a few statues. The mediation labyrinth we were unsure if they kept it short on purpose or if it’s short year-round but it was fun following its path; even if I cheated a few times and just merely stepped in front of Clint several times cutting some of my “time-to-finish” timing off.

The statues we came across were of:
1. 2 geese in flight and was named “My One and Only”. If you look at the picture, they look like two birds connected at the wing of the other.

2. Colonel William Dickson receiving a sword from the Black Brigade. Upon further investigation, we discovered that Dickson inspired some 400 colored men to return to duty the next day and was pleasantly surprised when 700+ showed up to report for duty. He eventually returned to his previous work (from practicing law to being named a judge) while the Black Bridgade went on to seeing action in the Civil War. Another noteworthy fact is that he was married to Mary Todd Lincoln’s 3rd cousin (just a basic search was done here – my source is Find a Grave website).

We didn’t spend a whole lot of time in Cincinnati since we wanted to save some other stuff for the future, in case we get a chance to explore it again more in depth. The drive back to the greater Indy area was uneventful with the exception of admiring the rolling hills of southwest Ohio and southeast Indiana with thin blankets of snow everywhere.

You may have seen our post about George Rogers Clark National Historic Park in Vincennes, IN(See our National Park Page if not). After we had left there, we went and found some roadside “attractions” in Vincennes and in Bloomington, IN. We first found an Uncle Sam figure that was standing tall over the entrance to a local car wash. I’m guessing Uncle Sam “wants you” to keep your car clean in Vincennes!


We got lost looking for the 3rd thing we found, and stumbled across the giant pencil on the side of the road, so this was the 2nd thing we found in Vincennes. The “point” is (at the tip of the pencil…lol) that you can get lost and still have fun!


And just a half a block away from that is a “muffler” man. Not the typical Muffler Man that stands 30-40 feet tall but rather, this one anyway, stood about 10-15 feet tall and is next to the road.

Once we found those 3 things, we scurried back to the Indy area where the home office is, and proceeded to swing by the Hoosier university campus to snap a picture of a recently erected statue of John Mellencamp! And the cold never “Hurt So Good”! He is a long-time resident of Bloomington and is recognized by the university for his contributions to charities like (and most importantly) Farm Aid. The singer does NOT possess an actual degree, nor was he a student at Indiana University, but he was granted an honorary graduate degree for his accomplishments.

Once we finished there, we moved down the road just a few blocks and found the future birthplace of Captain Janeway from Star Trek Voyager. He’s the Trekkie, although he doesn’t watch this particular show, so if there is a picture of him with Captain Janeway, then that’s why I am not in the photos. I liked the original series and TNG…although I do NOT consider myself a Trekkie because I can name just the main characters. That’s the extent of my knowledge…and even THAT is a stretch.

These adventures are just a small snippet of the “other things” we like to hunt down while on our excursions into any given city/locale. All of these were taken on the same day, which was this past Saturday (01/19/2025). Stay tuned in…we’re always looking for oddities like this. Hmm…oddities…funny word when this is our norm.

We have been across the US, coast to coast multiple times and sometimes stopping at locations more than once. If we had already been there, we either revisit some locations (especially food adventures) multiple times or we seek out something new if it’s a larger metroplitan city, or maybe even take a road trip to a different city or ideal destination just to be able to see more.

This year (2025), we are setting out from our hometown of Jacksonville, FL on Monday, January 13th (after an important update on a follow-up appointment for Michelle’s father) to head to where Clint’s “home office” is located at in Noblesville, IN. Once we arrive there, we will be spending roughly a week and a half in the greater Indianapolis area before we set out on the journey across the great states of America!

We typically seek out foods that are native to the states, such as a favorite dish, favorite diners, favorite fast foods, etc. We also search for waterfalls, covered bridges, state capitols, sports venues (predominantly MLB and NFL), and historical and natural landscapes within tht National Park System. We also seek out “pop culture” things such as celebrity statues and TV/Film sites. We look for local karaoke as well because my husband is a great singer and we have a goal to sing karaoke in every state…which we have barely touched on to be honest.

If you like a random adventure, we have those too…sometimes we find the most off-the-beaten path things like the World’s Largest [insert whatever you can think of here] and unique museums like the National Mustard Museum in Middleton, WI.

Weird.
