South Borneo Traditional Music Instruments

Musical tradition of South Kalimantan has its own shape and characteristics. Having a form of music in South Kalimantan of vocal, instrumental and variety of the music and its regionalism. According Hj. Ardiansyah, a local Banjar songwriter, singer and musk observers stated that the area South Kalimantan region of Borneo south music including Malay clumps, but different from the Malays of Sumatra. This is understandable, because the Banjar is a hill tribe assimilation Malay (Dayak) and influence of Java - Sunda.

Gamelan Banjar

Gamelan Banjar is an art that is actually played by a set of musical instruments of the orchestra and its complementary played by people of Banjar tribe. And Gamelan Banjar itself has two versions, there is a version Gamelan Banjar Kraton and there are versions Populist.

Base on history, Gamelan of Banjar has been around since the 14th century brought to South Kalimantan by a prince named Suryanata derived from State Dipa kingdom at that time. This instrument originally from Majapahit (the biggest empire of Java)

Kalampat

Kalampat is a kind of musical instrument tradisioanl single-headed drum. Agency Batung drum sticks or thick bamboo large in diameter. Kalampat played by being hit using a paddle from rattan. Kalampat played along with great (gong) as an accompanist in a Bawanang ceremony (rice harvest), Babalian (bahiaga or treatment ceremonial magic) and other ceremonies in the Dayak community in the Hulu Sungai Tengah.

Kalang Kupak

This instrument is made of thin bamboo species (Paring Tamiang). Kalang kupak consists of 8 segments of bamboo, each cut in half and tapered at the ends. The bamboo fiber is then combined with rattan to resemble the shape calung of West Java.

Kalang Kupak act as carriers of the melody, played with great musical instruments (gong), baboons (drum), dolphins (drum), and a harp to accompany ceremonial Balian, the ceremony for the life safety of the local community who carried out every year and to accompany traditional dances, such as Gintor dance.

Kalang Kumpak a traditional musical instrument Tribes Hill. The Dayaks Maanyan call Kalang Kupak with the name "salung" which serves to entertain the farmers in the fields and to repel wild animals.

Kintung

This is one of the other unique musical instruments in South Kalimantan made by Tribe Banjar. Even in ancient times this instrument also competed. Uniquely this instrument allegedly played with magical powers. Even at the time contested to the extent that a musical instrument made from bamboo can be broken down even no noise at all with magical powers.

Judging from its shape is like the Angklung musical instrument made of bamboo. Sharpener top of each piece of bamboo is very important to adjust the sound. The length of bamboo used for the pieces are usually only two segments only.

Kuriding

Kuriding including one of the traditional musical instruments of South Kalimantan are threatened with extinction. People rarely play a musical instrument made of wood or palm. This instrument is played by wrapping the rope that holds the wood slats to stick in the mouth with the left hand. While the right hand pulling the strings from the end of the bar next to it so it came out a sound like the roaring sound of the wind.

Kurung-Kurung

Kurung-kurung usually played on traditional ceremony, Kenduri and welcome quests or officials who visit South Kalimantan. Set of Kurung-kurung consists and played with 7 pieces. Kangkurung is the name of the traditional musical instruments of South Kalimantan, mainly located in rural or mountainous. The naming of this instrument is based on local language

In Tabalong known as "Kangkurung Batang". In the Hulu Sungai Tengah district called "Hilai", in Tapin district called "Kangkurung" and in Banjar district and other areas are called "Kurung-kurung"

Kurung-kurung is traditional music instrument that born from farmer life and played to spend free time after harvest time. Today this instrument still often playing and popular in Astambul society, Banjar Regency area. This one of unique music instrument in South Kalimantan.This instrument made from wooden stick and combine with bamboo in downside.

Panting

Panting is traditional stringed music instrument. This instrument called Panting because it's use string (in Banjarese; Panting). According to many references, Panting originally from Tapin, a regency of South Kalimantan. In past time, Panting played by a person. Now, it can combining with another music instruments like Babon, Gong and Violin.

Sarunai

Sarunai is one of the Banjar traditional musical instrument. This instrument include in a wind instrument. Sarunai usually played in the traditional events that crowded, like a marriage ceremony. This instrument similar name in Malaysia and Minang, West Sumatera. Sarunai can be played solo (alone) and can be combined with other traditional musical instruments.

Terbang Madihin

Tarbang Madihin is one of the percussion instruments. This instrument is usually used on special occasions in Maulid (Celebration of Prophet Muhammad's Birthday). Tarbang is musical instrument made of wood and the leather uppers of animals (cows, goats, sheep) and tied with rattan and fastened with wooden pegs. Most producers in South Kalimantan is in the Martapura.

Kalimantan Selatan mempunyai warisan dan nilai budaya yang menarik dan indah, serta didalamnya terkandung nilai-nilai budaya yang perlu dilestarikan, diantaranya seni tari (tari baksa kembang, tari kuda gipang dll), seni suara (lagu-lagu banjar, pantun, madihin dll), seni rupa (pahatan, lukisan dll), seni teater (mamnda, wayang gong dll). Sebagai wujud ikut melestarikan seni dan budaya Kalimantan Selatan, Bank Kalsel kembali mengadakan kompetisi fotografi dengan mengusung tema “Lestarikan Budayaku”.

Hadiah Pemenang

Untuk setiap pemenang akan mendapatkan hadiah sebagai berikut:

Ketentuan Pendaftaran

Lomba terbuka untuk umum.
Lokasi objek foto: seluruh wilayah Provinsi Kalimantan Selatan.
Jangka waktu pemotretan: Tahun 3013 - 2014.
Karya foto yang diikutsertakan belum pernah memenangkan lomba foto sejenis.
Foto dalam format digital dan merupakan hasil karya sendiri.
Panitia maupun Bank Kalsel tidak bertanggungjawab atas segala tuntutan dari pihak manapun terkait dengan foto.
Peserta yang diikutkan dalam lomba ini. Peserta hendaknya memastikan perizinan (termasuk objek release) terhadap foto yang diikutsertakan.
Rekayasa digital hanya sebatas editing dasar seperti mengatur kontras, eksposur brightness, saturasi dan sejenisnya. Dilarang keras melakukan rekayasa digital penggabungan dari beberapa foto.
Tidak mengandung SARA dan pornografi.
Foto dicetak dengan sisi terpendek minimal 30 x40cm/30x45cm, tanpa alas, border frame, watermark, maupun unsur non fotografi lainnya.
Dibelakang foto ditempelkan judul foto, lokasi pemotretan, nama, alamat, nomer identitas, nomor telepon/HP.
Peserta wajib menyertakan file foto dalam CD berformat JPEG dengan kualitas maksimum.
Setiap peserta hanya boleh mengikuti 1 (satu) kategori dan mengirimkan maksimal 5 (lima) buah foto.
Foto yang masuk 25 besar, Bank Kalsel akan memepergunakannya untuk kepentingan pameran dan pembuatan buku katalog lomba (tentatif). Apabila buku katalog lomba dicetak, setiap foto yang termuat selain pemenang akan mendapatkan kompensasi yang nilainya akan ditentukan kemudian. Hak cipta tetap dimiliki fotografer.
Khusus untuk foto pemenang 1 sd 3, Bank Kalsel berhak mempergunakannya secara ekslusif.
Peserta lomba tidak dipungut biaya apapun.
Keputusan juri adalah mutlak dan tidak dapat diganggu gugat.
Apabila di kemudaian hari peserta diketahui telah melanggar semua ketentuan di atas, maka gelar juaranya akan dianulir.
Dengan menyertakan foto pada lomba, peserta bersedia tunduk pada aturan lomba dan sanksi-sanksinya.

Merah Putih Expedition 2014

Ekspedisi Merah-Putih 2014 Puncak Halau-Halau adalah kegiatan rutinitas para penggiat dan pecinta alam dalam rangka menyambut Hari Kemerdekaan Republik Indonesia. Perayaan ini di adakan tepatnya pada tanggal 17 Agustus di Puncak Halau-Halau, Gunung Besar wilayah pegunungan Meratus. Peserta yang mengikuti kegiatan ini akan melakukan perjalanan beberapa hari hingga ke puncak tersebut. Selama di perjalanan dari desa terakhir (Desa Kiyu), peserta akan menemui perkampungan adat, ladang dan kebun masyarakat, hutan, rimba, Air Terjun Rampah Sungai Karuh hutan tropis hingga sampai ke puncak.

Keberangkatan

Berangkat dari Marabahan Kabupaten Barito Kuala tanggal 14 Agustus 2014 menggunakan perahu kapal menuju Kota Nagara Kabupaten Hulu Sungai Selatan dengan waktu tempuh ± 6 jam. Dari Nagara kabupaten Hulu Sungai Selatan berangkat menuju Desa Batu Kembar Kabupaten Hulu Sungai Tengah menggunakan Truk.

Kepulangan

Dari Desa Batu Kembar pulang pada tanggal 20 Agustus 2014 menggunakan Truk langsung menuju ke Marabahan.

Naik taksi argo menuju Terminal Handil Bakti ± Rp.150.000,-.

Barabai is a capital city of Hulu Sungai Tengah that is a part of South Kalimantan province. If we calculate from it extend, Barabai is a small city (town) than Martapura, Banjarbaru and Banjarmasin city. Commodity export competition in rice trade from outside of country made tight competition with local product. With inclusion of export rice, people have many alternative rice product and supply. The farming process do manually and traditionally such as marincah, malacak, mananjang till maharit / mangatam. After that it processed with rice thresher tool, drying them and bring to ricemill.
In swamp area, people usually planting twice in a year need long process. But in hills, people also plant the rice with different method that just once in a year. This method called locally with Manugal term.

Traditional Market in Barabai city and surrounding is markets that hold 1 day every week alternately in different place. Almost of them located in central of sub districts. Sellers and buyers trade variety thing such as factory products, house products or natural source (vegetables, fruits or traditional medicines). The price can be negotiable between buyer and seller.

2. Roving Vegetable Seller

Roving vegetable sellers can be found in the morning when the sun shining. This sellers come and gathered in Barabai Terminal market to packing their vegetables packet. They buy from vegetable seller, pack and bring with motorcycle. Beside with motor cycle, there are also peddle by cycle for near place around the city.

3. Apam Cake Production

Apam is one of special wet cake from Barabai. Barabai popular called as city of Apam because many people make and produce Apam. Apam cake that produced has variety base on shape. There are thin and thick, there also sweaty and tasteless.

4. Pakasam Production

When you visit in traditional market in Barabai, you will find the fish were preserve with Samu (drying rice). In locally called Pakasam. If you buy it, don’t consume directly, because Pakasam need to cook firstly before consumed. In Hulu Sungai Tengah where popular and many produced Pakasam is Pandawan sub regency exactly in Mahang villages.

Generally, Pakasam cooked fried. To make more delicious, we can combine with vegetables and seasoning like red hot chile, garlic, onion, tomato. The rest you can develop with individual taste. Beside Pakasam, there is other dishes were also preserved without Samu is Iwak Wadi which preserve in salty water.

One of them, there are holiday time on Sunday morning in Central of Barabai is Dwi Warna Park and Yard. In around this place on Sunday morning, many people gathering with their family or friends. Some of them are jogging, cycling, aerobic, buy snack and food or they just come to see and enjoy this moment.

Usually they begin and come to there at about 7.30 until 9.30 in the morning. This location in Sunday morning made as place that familiarizes people to clean and healthy. This thanksgiving means it for increasing brotherhood and care with the other. This also means to increase their love to Muhammad as one of Muslim prophets. 7. Laang (palm) Sugar Harvest

Sabilal Muhtadin Mosque

Sabilal Muhtadin mosque is the main mosque in Banjarmasin, capital city of South Kalimantan. This mosque located near park side of Martapura river, park mascot and also near with center city.

The mosque was build for appreciate to great scholar is Syekh Muhammad Arsyad Al-Banjari and his service. This mosque can accommodate up to 15.000 people with divided to 7.500 inside and 7.500 in out side (in yard). It's build in 1981 AD.

Suriansyah Prince Mosque

Sultan Suriansyah Mosque or Kuin Mosque is a historical mosque in Banjarmasin city that is the older mosque in South Kalimantan. This mosque build in Suriansyah Prince governance era at 1526 AD - 1550 AD who was the first Banjar king that accept Islam.

Kuin mosque is one of three older mosque in Banjarmasin beside Jami mosque and Basirih mosque. This mosque located in North Kuin village. Suriansyah Prince mosque that build in side of Kuin river has Banjar Traditional Architecture with stage construction and layering roof.

Al-Karomah Mosque

Al-Karomah mosque is one of the biggest mosque in South Kalimantan that located in Martapura city. This mosque is mark land of Martapura city because it is easy to access and recognize by people also build in side of A. Yani street.

Jamek Negeri Serawak Mosque

This mosque located in Petra Jaya, Kuching. It's built in 1987 AD until 1990 AD. Jamek Negeri Serawak mosque is unique and can accommodate up to 10,000 people in one time. This mosque adopted by Istanbul mosques concept.

Singkawang Great mosque is one of the oldest mosque in West Kalimantan Province, Indonesia, exactly located in Singkawang city. In 1870 AD, Captain Bawahasib Marikan, a new comer from Clerical District, Calcutta - India, came to Singkawang for sell diamond (Marjan). In 1875 AD, he candidate by Dutch Governance in Indonesia as Captain in Singkawang.

In 1885 AD, he build great mosque in Pasar Baru Singkawang area. This mosque side by side with Chines community. Although side by side, they live harmonious and peace. In 1927 AD, was an great fired and burned a lot of buildings, include the Great mosque and chines community.

Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque

Omar Ali Saifuddien mosque was built in Februari 1954 AD. This is one of the historical mosque in Brunei. it is built by the late of 28th sultan in Brunei, which is Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin during his region. This Mosque is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Bandar seri Begawan. This mosque can up accommodate to 3,000 people. Architecture of this mosque is combination of Mughal with Italian style.

The mosque built above of artificial pond and lagoon side the Brunei river in Kampong Ayer. This mosque has marble tower with golden doom. Also completely with garden and fountain. After you are arrive in Barabai, take a rest to the hotel. There are many hotels in Barabai. You can ask ojek or Becak to the nearly or suitable hotel for you. If you want reach the last village quickly, you should take ojek to go to Hantakan Village.
From Barabai city, if you just alone or with small group people (2 or 4 person) find ojek who can take you to Hantakan Village. But if you with big group (more than 4 person) I suggest you to go by pedestrian taxi or rental car. By those transportation, you will need just 30 minutes – 1 hour until you can reach that village.

From Trisakti Harbor Banjarmasin

From Tri Sakti Harbor take taxi to Pal 6 Terminal. Use “coll” taxi that bring you to Barabai city. It’s need about 4 – 5 hours on the road.

Banjarese Language (Introduction)

Generally, Banjarese language divided into two sub languages are Banjar Kuala language and Banjar Hulu language. The native speakers of Banjar Kuala consist from Banjarmasin city and surround, Banjar regency, Barito Kuala regency, a part of Tanah Laut regency. Either Banjar Hulu native speakers based from Tapin, Hulu Sungai Selatan, Hulu Sungai Tengah, Hulu Sungai Utara, Balangan and Tabalong.

In a part of South Borneo area used the language that mixed with other language such as some of Barito Kuala People that influenced by Bakumpai Language. Banjarmasin, Banjarbaru and Pelaihari are influenced by Java, Sunda and Indonesian languages. Either from Tanah Bumbu and Kotabaru is influenced by Bugis language and Indonesian.

Although in usually Banjarese language comes into two, but in real life every regional (especially in Hulu Sungai area) has grown of differences language neither from vocabulary nor accent which are different. Halau-Halau, The Highest Peak of Meratus Mountains

In South Kalimantan, there are mountains that stretches from the south of the island of Borneo to the border with East Kalimantan in the north. This mountain is called the Meratus which means hundreds lined hills and mountains. One of the highest mountain called the Big Mountain that has a peak which is often known as Halau - Halau. Peak height of Halau - Halau not as high peaks of the mountains in the other areas is about 1901 m above the sea level. Most areas of this mountain ecology protected by the surrounding society. The residents on the slopes around the mountain is Dayak Bukit people who still adhered to the trust.

Halau - Halau Bini Peak

Halau Halau peak-is one destination of ecological purpose in Kalimantan Selatan beside climbing the activist. Every August 17th, in commemoration of Indonesia's Independence Day, nature lovers and nature enthusiasts are always doing the climb together before August 17. So right on the date August 17, they fly the Indonesian flag at the peak.

Rampah Sungai Karuh Waterfall

In the morning, when the weather was sunny, hikers will see a stretch of dense forests of the Peak of Meratus and next to that is called by people around the Halau Halau Bini Peak. Ideally the climbers reached the summit at a time before sunsite and down after watching the sunrise before the sun gets scorching because there bagin tree tops. Highly recommended if traveling to the summit-Halau Halau guided by people who are experts in their field and understand these locations to avoid getting lost.
