Spellchecker for Blog Posts implemented

We just implemented a spell checker into TripSailor. You can now spell check your blog posts of your sailing blog. The spell checker is currently available in the following languages - Englisch, Danisch, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish

TripSailor launched Video Uploader.

We are proud to announce that TripSailor launched a Video Uploader today!
Its now possible to upload your videos to your TripSailor Sailing Blog. Starting today TripSailor blogs can be made even more exciting with the addition of unlimited videos - Just like your photos, your videos can now be uploaded and added to your sailing blog.
Like all other features - this feature is available for ALL Sailing Blogs on TripSailor.

The video-uploader is still in Beta-mode - but as always, we'll continue to improve the video feature, so please let us know your feedback! Of course it's still possible to embed videos from other platforms e.g. youtube into your blog posts.

We've added Google Gears to TripSailor

We've added Google Gears to TripSailor to help you auto-detect your current location.
How does it work?
When writing a new blog-post you have a link above the map called "Auto Detect your current location". When clicking on the link for the first time a pop-up will show up asking you to allow Google Gears to detect your current location.
The location is shown on the map. If Google Gears cannot tell precisely where you are at, it will typically place you in the center of the nearest major city. To correct the location - just drag and drop the marker.

TripSailor Sailing Foto Contest

We're proud to announce the TripSailor Sailing Photo Contest. Start saving and uploading your best sailing photos. Starting with today we're taking nominations for a TripSailor Sailing Photo Contest .

How it works
On Sunday September 20th a four week long "nomintation phase" will start. Members can vote once a day per photo until nomination phase ends Sunday, Oktober 18, 2009 Midnight PST. Within these four weeks every photo on TripSailor can be nominated by registered members to take part in the contest. After these four weeks 30 photos with the most nominations will be choosen and take part in the two weeks voting phase. Popular voting will run from Oktober 19 – November 1, 2009 Midnight PST. In this two weeks every member has 3 votes to choose the best photos out of these 30 pics.

The winner gets a complete TripSailor fan package including a shirt, an apron, a cap and a bag from the TripSailor fan store.

Due to a problem with our hosting provider, the website ist currently down – the sysadmins are on to it and it should be up soon. We'll will update as soon as we know more about the issue.

since 07:18:36 PDT TripSailor.com servers are working again as exepcted. The reason of the longest outage in TripSailor history was a power-outage.

TripSailor featured in german Yacht magazine

The German YACHT magazine has published a comparison of TripSailor and two other blogging sites which they've reviewed in it's May edition. The summary of the article is, that TripSailor is the only platform, that offers all the blogging, tracking functionality and Google Earth integration for free. (Yes, TripSailor supports live-updating and photos within Google Earth for free).

2nd place for the TripSailor Team at the Adriatic Sailing Week

The Adriatic Sailing Week 2009 took place in Murter, Croatia from May 9th to 16th. TripSailor was eager to join this exclusive event. The crew with it's members Sabine, Daniel, Michael and Ralph was skippered by Christian Kargl. After the first day it was clear, that the TripSailor team was among the favorites to win the 4 day race.

It all came down to the final day as everyone had an exciting race with strong winds. "Bolero" of the TripSailor team ended up in a very close 1st place for the regatta with "Tango" skippered by André Reich on the 2nd place. "Our results have come from hard practice" noted Christian Kargl, Captain on "Bolero". "We had a great practice day back in Kremik the day before the race started. Michael turned out to be the best spinaker trimmer in the med.

At the end of the regatta after the completion of 6 races it was "Tango" skippered by André Reich from Germany who won the class. "It was some of the most exciting racing I've been involved in in a long time", stated Jürgen, a member of the crew. "The final race between Christian Kargl and the "TripSailor Team" team and ourselves was great. We're looking forward to challenge you next year again".

new photo uploader

We received some reports from people having trouble uploading photos with Internet Explorer. Today we updated our image software, so the problems should be solved now. If you still have troubles uploading your sailing photos, please post into our forum.

adding geotagged photos

An increasing number of camera phones have the ability to geotag digital photos as they’re taken. Mobile phones like the Apple iPhone have an integrated email client as well.

Those features turn your phone into a nifty device for updating your sailing blog without installing any additional software.

Just send your geotagged photos via email to your secret TripSailor drop-box email address and the email + photo will get posted to your blog. The GPS information stored in the photo will used to update your tracking map accordingly.

improved SPOT message handling

We improved the handling of the SPOT tracking messages a bit. If you use the SPOT satellite messenger to update your blog, TripSailor now will use the nearest location as a title for the blog post instead of the very technical "OK ESN:0-739..." something number.

We dramatically improved the accuracy of the photos shown with the point of interest by switching to panoramio.com as our provider. Many thanks to all panoramio users for sharing their amazing photos.

Thousands of marinas updated their contact information

You can now share your own photos for every point of interest in our database

Adding your own points will be possible in a few weeks. Then you can add every interesting place to sail and share it with other members.

Public TripSailor API

We’re so excited to now have an API where you can create fun stuff with TripSailor.
Right now we support the MetaWeblog API. This means you can post and edit your blog entries as well as upload photos to your blog.
For non-developers, this means you can use any blogging tool such as

Windows Live Writer

Ecto

FlickR BlogThis

or any other tool that supports the MetaWeblog API

Now you can use tools like Ecto or Marsedit to write blog posts while you're not connected to the internet and post them to your blog as soon as you get into the range of the next WIFI.

Since most of that tools do not support location information. You can just add it to your text in one of the following formats:

Amazon S3 down

We're having some temporary technical difficulties with our album images. We're working on them at the moment, and expected the images to reappear shortly. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Amazon, our storage provider, is having a service interruption that's causing problems serving some of your photos. More info on their problem.

We expect the service to be restored within the next hours. You can still upload images. Nothing will get lost!

supporting SPOT. the worlds first satellite messenger
