Cirque du Soleil's Zarkana has officially opened at the gorgeous Art Deco performing venue, Radio City Music Hall, in New York City.

Last year, the scheduling of Zarkana during June 2011 miffed Broadway fans because it rendered the beloved Tony Awards homeless. After the theatre version of musical chairs, the Tonys settled on the Beacon Theatre, and Zarkana's move-in at Radio City went ahead as scheduled.

Plugging Away on My CD Tracks...

So I'm nearing the end of my recording phase for my upcoming CD, Vocalises, Op. 1.0 - 26 Vocal Exercises for Trained & Experienced Singers.

I'm working really hard on this -- actually, I have been working really hard on it... composing the exercises, trying to get them perfect so they help a lot of people. :)

Anyhoo, the Kickstarter campaign is still on! Remember, donating thru Kickstarter is tax-deductible AND you're not charged until the end of the campaign, August 1st. I just need the pledges so that I can get the funding... if I don't get enough pledges to meet my goal, I don't get a penny... and then the world will never hear my CD.... sniff...

Gone Teaching...

So I thought I was done teaching. No, honestly. I got my last batch of ducklings out of the nest and was going to focus on myself for once, especially with my frequent jaunts to New York to cover Broadway events like openings and the 2011 Tonys. But it turns out that people still want to take lessons.

It doesn't matter if you want Broadway, or Opera, or "American Idol," or the Miss America Pageant. (I coached singers for all of it!) The voice functions the same 98% of the time. It's how you use your articulators that determine the style. And that other 2%... we'll leave for learning about in lesson.

So if you're interested in lessons, contact me. We can meet in person in New York or on the Gulf Coast, or over Skype if you live elsewhere. I'm not cheap, but the knowledge and skills you will gain from me will help you immensely in your pursuit of a career. We will cover audition prep, song prep/interpretation, sight-singing, scene study, college/career consultation, and more, as it pertains to your particular goals. And yes, I can teach talking on stage, too. :)

Prerequisites:

Have clear goals of a career or future in acting/singing. I don't teach people who want to sing better in the shower.
Know that I'm tough. I demand a lot of your time and your brain power, and I will expect a lot out of you. Remember, I'm preparing you for a lifelong career.
Know that this is a process. The body is complex, and it takes time to undo the bad habits you've gotten into and more time to ingrain the good habits into your muscle memory.

If you can agree to this, than you might be strong enough to put up with me. After all, the casting director won't take the time to tell you what you did wrong. They just never call you back.

I am on the mend from bronchitis, and hopefully, I can get back to singing next week. The vocal folds need time to heal from all the hacking up lung gunk I've been doing the past 2 weeks. Ah, to feel normal again... I'm just glad to be sleeping through the night. :)

If you already know me, then you know I always have lots of irons in the fire. If you don't know me, then buckle your seatbelt -- it's gonna be a bumpy ride! :)

Actually, I'm just another activist artist trying to make it in a world that increasingly devalues the arts and its artists. Nevermind though, I shall persevere -- I'll keep doing what I'm doing and be glad in the knowledge that I'm doing my part to protect the First Amendment, work for Human Rights, Women's Rights, Indigenous Rights, and generally not allow big money, big pharma, and "the man" to run rough-shod over my civil liberties and the quality of my life and my daughter's future for their profits and control.

So here I will write about all the things that matter to me: Musical Theatre, Anthropology, ancient culture, spiritual discussions, keeping arts in schools, civil rights, human rights, women's rights, women's sexuality, the quantum mind field, astral travel, past lives, and anything else as my mind, heart, and body deem pertinent at any given moment.
