Making Sense and Cents. Living Small

2018-06-26T04:14:00.000-07:00

There are so many advantages to living small that I almost don't know where to begin!

When small houses are mentioned people tend to get defensive and conjure up images of tiny
houses that are cramped and unimaginably little, with no obvious advantages for a realistic lifestyle.

Living small makes sense and saves so much cents especially in a world where wages have stagnated and the cost of living has soared. This is making it nearly impossible for many families to get out of debt. Many will be stuck renting for a lifetime. The hopes of home ownership for numerous people is now becoming a pipe dream.

A realistic solution is going back to basics with affordable, well designed, and yes ~ smaller homes. The cost effectiveness outweighs any misconceptions one might have when considering downsizing their dreams of owning a home. Living small has benefits for the empty nest and retiree crowds too!

The saving begins because less square footage equals less purchase price, cha ching! Savings right there. Then the cost of heating/cooling is drastically reduced because there is less energy usage in smaller spaces. (ching-ching) There is less furniture and accessories to purchase when there is less space to decorate. I hear more money going into the savings already!

Additionally, property taxes are less on smaller homes than they are on larger ones! More savings again. Another exceptional saving factor is less to clean. Ah, I knew that would get your attention.

This is a time saver which automatically allows you to do more of the things you love and enjoy, with the people in your life. How about the satisfaction gained since you are saving so much money while living in a lovely, affordable home that you own?

The pros far outweigh the cons towards any thoughts of giving up space. Most people can't afford the luxury of the larger home in the first place, so what are you really giving up?

The cost of debt combined with high rents that are easily $15K per year (just to have a roof over your head) is crippling so many families. The pressure and stress this causes on otherwise healthy and happy relationships has taken it's toll on the family and therefore society as a whole.

It just makes sense and saves so much cents to live small!

When the burden is lifted with an affordable mortgage payment and time is freed up to spend doing what you love (and always wanted to do but couldn't afford) then life itself becomes larger!

Many people who could never have been debt free will be able to make that dream come true as well. Families will flourish and stress levels will be reduced tremendously.

Look for more postings and ideas in the future. I will be building a new small home within the year, God willing. Stay tuned and God Bless you dear reader.

Live Well Age Better

2018-03-06T03:03:00.001-08:00

Choices!

We make them every day without much thought of consequences. The truth is every action has

a reaction and ultimately an end result. We truly are what we eat.

Each individual has within their grasp the power to change, direct and guide their health and wellness with quality choices. With a career in healthcare I have had the opportunity to witness firsthand the effects that a poor lifestyle has on overall health. Most illnesses and diseases can be reversed or avoided simply by controlling what we eat and drink combined with exercise.

What is it about the word exercise that conjures up so many uncomfortable thoughts? Why is it that the very mention of the word makes people get anxious? There are so many healthy benefits to be gained by stretching and moving our bodies that the sky is the limit! Yoga, Pilates, hiking, biking, swimming, weight training and walking are just a few of the options available. Fitness can and should be both fun and entertaining. Movement is the key to staying limber and vibrant. Get creative and get moving.

Perhaps you prefer painful hip replacement, knee replacement or cortisone shots. Millions of people accept illnesses such as diabetes, Parkinson's Disease, arthritis, weakness, heart disease and more that are caused by inflammation. Its your life and your choices do matter, so what's it going to be?

Okay, so maybe all 10 of these seem a bit drastic to try and obtain immediately, but what if you just tried to incorporate 4 or 5 of these improvements into your day. Eat small meals to keep your body adequately supplied with the fuel it needs to operate at it's optimum. Skip that offensive coke and drink chilled water.

Unhealthy vegetable fats and margarine are clogging your arteries! Replace those with extra virgin coconut oil, and extra virgin olive oil to boost your metabolism and reap healthful benefits.

Research has shown that sugar is a destroyer of the brain. Yes, you read that correctly. Alzheimer's Disease has now been linked directly to sugar and is considered Type 3 diabetes! The affect sugar has on our body and brain is beyond superficial. Memory is destroyed by over consumption of this man made product.

Most people don't realize that simple carbohydrates comprise so much of the modern diet and that this is the real culprit of the obesity epidemic throughout the world. Processed foods are overloaded with simple carbohydrates which turn to sugar in the body during digestion. All this glucose (sugar) has to go somewhere and it is clogging up our bodies. Not only are we getting fatter, we are getting sicker!

Real foods provided by God through nature are the key to health, vitality and longevity. It comes back to choices. What you put into your body is what your body actually is. Give your car a sugary drink and see how well it performs. If you let it rest too long it rusts. Same result for the human body. Food is the source of life and you are in control for providing the fuel choices that direct your health.

More and more people are on medications, suffering with ailments that could be avoided with lifestyle changes involving diet and exercise. The alarming statistic is that so may people choose to take poisonous pills to alleviate symptoms rather than incorporating lifestyle changes. The epidemic we are facing is a population of sick, obese and over medicated individuals whose brains are being consumed literally by the sugary substances they are putting into their bodies.

Choosing to live healthy is a happy choice filled with so many possibilities. Eating foods that are real means that they really grow and are really alive is a quick and easy way to decide if it is a good choice or not. Take the potato, it grows so okay. Potato chips, not so good, it is processed potatoes mixed with stuff. The thing is we really don't know what all that "stuff" is that "they" put into the foods we consume.

Choices mixed with thought processes determine the truth about what we eat. If it goes into your body, it really goes into your body. All throughout the body. The results have cause and effect. Your decision. Your life. Your health. Your future.

How do you want to age? Sickly, obese, on all kinds of medications suffering with all kinds of diseases and ailments?

Take a good brisk walk. Take the stairs. Lift a few weights. Clean your home or car with exuberance. Dance to some great music. Eat real foods. Drink clean water. Cut down the sugar and processed foods.

You will feel the difference, and your body will reward you. Smile and pass it on.

God Bless.

Energy Saving Myths and Tips

2017-10-22T02:50:00.001-07:00

When it comes to energy saving, there is a lot of misinformation circulating. Lets look at Ceiling fans.

They look attractive and help cool a room, right?

No, truth is they help circulate the air but don't actually cool the room, so turn them off when leaving the area.

A fan that runs constantly can cost up to $7 a month, depending on size and age.

Save money by washing clothes in cold water instead of hot. The temperature of the water has no effect on the ability to wash the clothes.

Lighting is an often overlooked area that can add up to big savings!Enlighten yourself with these tidbits of information regarding light bulbs. Did you know that lighting accounts for 20-30% of your energy bill?

Each CFL bulb will save you about $50 in energy costs over the life of the bulb.

A bulb that burns continuously will need replacement sooner than one used only when needed.

I have put together a beautiful site packed with images to create your dream day. I've considered everything from fairy tale glamorous to backyard simple and all things in between. Put love in the air and turn your affair into one they will always remember.

Purchase wedding and engagement rings here: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_id=114&ipn=icep&toolid=20004&campid=5338268218&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_odkw%3Ddiamond%2Bwedding%2Brings%26_osacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp2045573.m570.l1313.TR11.TRC2.A0.H0.Xwedding%2Brings.TRS1%26_nkw%3Dwedding%2Brings%26_sacat%3D0

Let me inspire you with ideas and tips that begin with the ring and end with the final dance. I have taken all the brides dreams and put them on display with creativity and ideas for every taste and style.

Begin with a theme. This can be as simple as choosing color. Perhaps an era, event or even a mood can all equal a theme or style. No idea or thought should be overlooked.

Love bling? Then crystal can be your theme. Go glitzy with everything sparkling. Use white and silver throughout your decor. Choose silver and white for nails, attire, make up, hair color, decor and more. Adorn your head with jewels instead of a veil.

Make your reception an event with style. There are so many options available to customize and start new traditions and break the mold. Try a dessert table instead of a wedding cake and offer variety to your guests.

Weddings should be fun and reflect who you are as a couple as well as incorporating your childhood

dreams of "the" day.

White can be tired so get color inspired.

Why not choose a 1920's look for all the men including vintage hats in a black and white theme with spats! Wear an ankle length gown and rent a Model A to travel in. Mix fun and romance to put it together.

I've put together a collection of accessories and themes to excite your passions. Choose indoors or outdoors the ideas are here.

Browse my pages on Pinterest and you will be filled with ideas from bling to rings and all things in between.

Holding Back the Years of Simply Red by US Recording Giants

2017-10-15T09:33:00.000-07:00

https://www.youtube.com/user/simplyredvideo

http://www.simplyred.com/

Most of you know how I feel about the influence of Big Corporate America, and its overwhelming intrusion in just about everything that makes life a personal experience!

Take Music for example. We American music fans have Nearly been Cheated out of knowing of and hearing of Mick Hucknall aka Simply Red!

Although there really is nothing simple about him. Who? You know, Mick! That Flaming Redhead, the outrageously talented Brit...who's album "STARS", featured a mega hit of the same title! Perhaps you recall this very popular hit called "Thrill Me" or "A New Flame" Which are wildly famous with his loyal fans! I'll bet you didn't know that "Stars" was second only to Michael Jackson's famous album titled "Thriller"!

Not only is Mick Hucknall WAY more Thrilling and talented than Michael Jackson ever was, he sings better, dances better, writes better songs, both music and lyrics, he leads his own band, plus records and produces his own CD's and DVD's!!

B.B. King revealed to his audience at London's Royal Albert Hall (June 2011) that he's "Never heard a White Man Sing as well as Mick Hucknall!"
His sound is brilliant, and unique, filled with passion and depth.
The vocal skills are real, his rage is legendary.

Yet, we in America MISSED him! Even if you heard some of his music, WE still missed out on enjoying Simply Red in the U.S. Live...while it was happening!

The song titled "Picture Book" by Simply Red was featured by Jan Hammer on an episode from the beloved 80's TV hit-series "Miami Vice" (Hey, I live in Florida!) This is a haunting melody, written and performed by a very youthful - 25 year old musical genius named Mick Hucknall ~ Simply Red! His musical score is so profound and overwhelming, his voice unsurpassed. Heralded A Musical Masterpiece, and yet we should consider ourselves fortunate to have ever heard "Holding Back the Years".

Red is Adored by loyal fans World Wide, and is Very Widely Acclaimed, and we hardly ever heard of him. Maybe you read of his Courtship with the lovely Catherine Zeta-Jones? Long before Michael Douglas, there was the handsome, flaming red, long haired, Michael Hucknall otherwise known as Mick!

Amazing - what we don't hear about in this free land of ours!

This legendary performer covers it all: soul, funk, blues, jazz, rock, pop, and oldies. He sings Elvis better than Elvis! As for his band... this is an awesome mix of extremely talented musicians that had loyally played together comprising Simply Red, and defining it's unique big/band sound. This team has thrilled audiences literally around the globe over and over again.

Mick Hucknall's Simply Red didn't put out an album...He released a Production worthy of being labeled an Opera or Symphony!

Mick has completely retired "Simply Red" now, after 25 years of glorious REIGN in music. This famously talented man, has put that awesome band to bed.

I was honored to be among a select group of Adoring music fans to be present for "Simply Red 25 The Greatest Hits Tour" This Smash Hit's Sold Out, and FINAL U.S.A. PERFORMANCE EVER was held at New Yorks beautiful and famous Radio City Music Hall on March 15, 2009. What an outrageously energetic, group of starstruck fans we were!

This was a divine moment from the pages of musical history, and we adoring fans were labeled "enthusiastic and fanatical"... and were we ever! We were graced with 3 Encore's by Simply Red. Mick and the boys seemed surprised and humbled by our affection graciously shaking too many hands to count! WHAT A STAR!

Closing the era with the likable song "Go Now" quite appropriate for the ending of a quarter century of Unprecedented Musical Output. History will likely prove that Mick Hucknall will be hailed as a musical genius, like Mozart and the like~!

Lalely Mick has been touring around his homes in England and Italy with the British Rock Band The "Faces", from Rod Stewart's claim to fame. Receiving outstanding acclaim for his replacement of Rod Stewart for these events, and the recent solo debut: "American Soul" is giving us another sample of his musical genius.

The best part of his success though, is his independence. Mick Hucknall went up against the Big Recording Giants and WON. He carved a way for future artists to follow. Finally...We have some Brilliant and Brave Musical artists in the U.S. such as Joe Bonamassa and his recording company J & R Adventures, where they have set out on this same pathway to literally Leap OUT of the Box while driving their own musical career!

In the U.S.... We've missed so much musical talent caused by U.S. Recording Giants and their control over the airwaves!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QL0uxvuiLPs

Presently, considering his magnificent career along with his love of the 60's music, Mick has boasted of plans to introduce a new genre to music, ...entirely! Possibly blending all those styles! Get ready for a treat! Remember...you read it here first!

Joe Bonamassa the Great Guitar Monster

2017-10-15T09:32:00.000-07:00

                                                              http://jbonamassa.com/

Joe Bonamassa is critically acclaimed as one of the greatest guitarists in the world, a title he not only deserves, but one that he is worthy to hold. This fourth generation musician began his musical career as a child prodigy who grew up with a guitar in his hands, and by the age of 12 was already opening shows for such legendary greats as B.B. King!

Bonamassa is a "Big Name" for so many reasons... giving each audience the thrill of his mastery over both electric and acoustical guitars, then ripping them to shreds with his unmatched horsepower. He teases the listener by adding some of the greatest riff's of all time, and then re-creates the sound with a force as big as only Bonamassa can obtain.

The guitar Titan puts on an incredible 2 hour non stop performance. Combine this with Joe on vocals like you've never heard him before. This is raw talent moving at the speed of sound!

Recent collaborations with Beth Hart, and Rock Candy Funk Party have given Joe a chance to conquer not only blues and rock, but soul and funk too.

Always a master on the top of his game with an amazing number of recorded songs, loyal listeners are always eager to get their hands on the latest release.

http://www.rockcandyfunkparty.com/dont-even-try-it-video/

I've been honored to have personally met this mega star many times, and I have an impressive collection of 4 of his hand signed, limited edition lithographs proudly displayed in my home.

I never pass up the chance to catch Joe and his band live, frequenting his outstanding performances several times every year. Each new live performance is bigger and bolder than the last! He's consistently improving his style, technique, and that sultry voice of his.

Acclaim is also due this brilliant and brave musical artist for conquering the U.S. Recording Giants, by co-owning his own recording company J & R Adventures. This not only proves his success as a businessman, and an artist, but it allows Joe Bonamassa to drive his own career! This rising mega star, is a dynamic super star, that has not allowed his success to go to his head.

The price of independence has a steep cost by way of the conventional accolades such as the Grammy's. Although he has been nominated the win itself remains elusive. Joe is an independent superstar, and that makes them dislike his success completely. I don't know about you...but I won't be attending their pity party! Imagine now that after over 120 + recorded (an outrageous amount of) songs, yet he still has never had a "Single Hit" by their standards.

Fans of Joe and his outrageously talented band are not casual listeners. We are die hard fans who listen to the music religiously. Many of us travel great distances to catch the shows frequently because he's just that great and the sound is that intoxicating! When Bonamassa comes on stage...you know It's gonna be HUGE!

Check him out now, and find out for yourself why...Joe Bonamassa is The Great Guitar Monster!

Money Saving Recipes and Meal Ideas

2017-10-15T05:35:00.002-07:00

Many of us are looking for new ways and new ideas to stretch our hard earned dollar.
When you really want to get the most bang for your buck the usual suggestions do get a bit
repetitive.

I have some fresh menu ideas and recipes to help take some of the boredom out of frugality and
give it the vitality it deserves.

Let's face it, grocery prices are perpetually on the rise and wages seem to be stagnant. There are
clever ways to fight the high cost of food with good planning and great recipes. Buying on sale and buying in bulk are beneficial for budgeting too.

Freezing is a great edge against spoilage for products such as milk, cheese, carrots, and all varieties of peppers.

These freezer containers are available for sale here:

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_id=114&ipn=icep&toolid=20004&campid=5338268218&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2F16oz-Meal-Prep-Food-Containers-with-Lids-Reusable-Microwavable-Plastic-BPA-free%2F252648683875%3Fhash%3Ditem3ad308f963%3Am%3AmXRf94PWigmiJChlMc9-EYw

I'd like to share a few of my family favorites with you.

One 5 lb sack of potatoes, 18 eggs, and 1 loaf of bread offers multiple meals and meal ideas. For less than $10.00 I can purchase these items and serve delicious food. While sparing the dollar, we have not sacrificed flavor or variety.

Oven fried potatoes with scrambled eggs and toast.

Egg salad sandwiches with baked potatoes.

Scalloped potatoes and deviled eggs.

Quiche with potato wedges.

One 3 lb package of Chicken leg quarters, a can of cream of chicken soup, and rice.

Chicken soup and barbecued chicken.

Chicken and rice in the crock pot.

Chicken pot pie.

Cook chicken with celery, carrots and onion in 2 cups chicken broth. Add 1 can cream of chicken soup, 1/4 cup sour cream, 1/4 cup cream and thicken to taste. Pour in baking dish. Top with 1 can biscuits cut into quarters. Bake at 350 about 30 mins or until biscuits are lightly browned on top. Delicious!

The basic idea here is that no single food item is viewed as only one dish or one meal. Creativity and versatility keep the simple food items from becoming tiresome.

I will be sharing meal planning, shopping tips and recipes to cut costs, live well and stay lean and healthy!

Bring 2 cups dry beans to boil. Soak for 2 hours. Drain water, and cover beans with twice as much water. Bring to boil again, and simmer 3 to 4 hours til tender. Add 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper, 1 large diced onion and 1/2 pound ham (optional) diced. Cook on low boil for 2 additional hours. Serve and enjoy!

Pinto beans are a staple item in our home. We love this dish and eat it often. The cost is always low and they keep fresh for a long time. Purchase in bulk here: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_id=114&ipn=icep&toolid=20004&campid=5338268218&mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fitm%2FAugason-Farms-Pinto-Beans-41-Lb-Pail-Gluten-Free-High-Quality-Natural-Flavor%2F272871269719%3Fepid%3D1801582497%26hash%3Ditem3f88652557%3Ag%3AHYsAAOSwqfNZ0mMJ

Here's another family favorite for delicious and easy potatoes:

Pour 2-4 tablespoons of olive oil into baking pan to coat bottom. Sprinkle with garlic powder seasoning and 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese. Cut 3-4 whole potatoes into medium wedges leaving skin on. Season with salt. Bake in oven at 425 for 25 minutes. Turn over and bake additional 10-15 mins. Serve with sour cream or ketchup.

Bon apetite!
