Thank you for taking interest in Custom Carpentry.

It is important for us to ensure you get exactly what you want.

When we work with you, it is a partnership, we have your total interest at heart. Once we have met we produce 3D drawings, to scale, precise to the last millimeter for you to check.

Once you have your drawings you can change them as many times as you like until you are 100% happy with them. We are in no rush to get the planning done because we don’t put your job in the diary until these drawings are agreed by you, that way, we are not rushing and possibly making mistakes.

This is a big investment and we want to ensure we all get it right.

Custom Carpentry does not work like a factory, we taylor every last thing to you, we take our time with the planning because the secret is in the planning! We are not about getting in and out of the door as quickly as possible.

To give you an idea of what your drawings might look like, here are some examples we have made in the past:

Here is a 3D drawing of a bespoke media TV unit and bookcase, drawn to scale.

Here the doors are peeled away and the dimensions added so you can see the actual spacings.

This penthouse media TV unit is built to fit a 60″ TV and on the left it covers the space for the Dining area.

Here you can see the dimensions of the unit.

This is an L shaped Media TV unit.

Here you can see it from a slightly different angle with dimentions.

With the drawing being in 3D means that we can show you any angle.

Here you can see holes for wires, light switch and space for speakers.

Once you have had your dream unit drawn in 3D, one of the final steps you can do to check that is looks as you imagine is to have it turned into a photo realistic drawing.

Here are some examples of what your fitted furniture render might look like:

If you would like to see the 3D scale drawings that we make for you before the renders you can see some examples here.

Thank you for your interest in Custom Carpentry.

It is really easy and straightforward to get your free fitted furniture quote from us.

All you need to do is send us a picture of the area where you would like your furniture fitted and secondly a rough sketch with dimensions on it.

To give you some ideas of what to send us I have compiled some examples below.

The following one is a basic drawing of two different units on opposite walls. It is ideal because it gives us the key external dimensions. If we are talking about standard shelves we don’t need to know the internal layout to give you a quote.

You really don’t need anything more complex than this.

This is much simpler for you because you don’t need to worry about what will go inside. We will discuss that when we meet.

This is another example of two great drawings because they have the external dimensions. The top drawing a storage cupboard in a play room and the second an open bookcase around a door.

If you fancy getting more creative you can make something like the drawing below. The thing is that this drawing is missing key dimensions such as the length of the unit and height of the ceiling.

And the next thing we need is a photo of the same area so that we can see exactly what the space looks like, the example below is a very good one.

This picture is good because it shows the floor, ceiling and both walls that your unit will be touching, this is important so we can get the best idea of what the space looks like. If you can’t get the whole wall in one frame then take two pictures.

If you prefer something drawn on computer using whatever software you are used to, this example is good, acompanied by a photograph of the area.

Lastly here is a rough sketch, but all that was needed as it has the external dimensions with some extra detailing in the centre. Then the accompanying photograph of the area, with wall, ceiling and walls and next to it is the final drawing that we did after meeting and finding out exactly what our client wanted.

The final step is to photograph or scan your sketch and send it to info@CustomCarpentry.co.uk for your free quote.

If you just want to get an idea of prices you can visit our price example page, but note that these are basic minimal prices.

If you have seen something in a magazine or book that you like such as the picture below, feel free to send that too.

When you buy a TV unit or other furniture from the shop you choose something you like, then just put it in place.

When it comes to fitted furniture, you can’t just do that, you have to think of something that doesn’t exist, plan it then build it, and once your furniture is fitted, that’s it you can’t change it, so you need to make sure you get it right.

Here is an example of a bespoke TV unit and the planning that was required.

Together with my customer Michelle, we spend many hours, face to face, on the phone, over Skype and exchanged many emails and many drawings to get the final fitted furniture she wanted.

Below you can see pictures from magazines that Michelle showed me as inpiration. The top left picture was an example of a desk she wanted to build into the unit, with a monitor. The black picture was to show a different colour wall in the back that she wanted. And the may one she liked the minimal design, square doors and the central bookcase she wanted to replicate.

Pictures as inspiration.

Then she also drew me some rough drawings too, the left one first, then the right one from which I drew the bottom left drawing in 3D with the desk.

In the right drawing we removed the desk area as we thought it would compromise the look of the fitted furniture.

Detailed Drawings

Below is the final design, Michelle wanted a minimal look, so we have got doors, wall to wall, with no metal handles, just top routed handles. All the doors are exactly the same size to give simetry, but the top doors are tall doors routed with a detail to make them look like the small doors on the bottom. The central bookcase unit adds some organised chaos into the beautifully semetrical TV unit.

This is a higly edited selection of the many steps taken to get here, we had many different design variations and edits as well as drawings that showed where Michelle’s electricians where to put all the sockets in the walls, nothing is left to chance and everything planned in advance.

Final Drawings of the bespoke fitted TV unit

So that you can get the best idea fo what your fitted furniture will look like, the final 3D drawing can be rendered including the lights. This render below I am sure you will agree looks fabulously real and gives a great idea of the final unit if you compare it with the following photo.

3D Realistic Rendered drawing

Here is the final fitted Media unit, all working with lights to make it come to life.

Finished Bespoke Media unit

Minimal design

Attention to detail, a removable cover for transformer.

This picture shows a removable box in the top left hand corner that is fitted on magnets, behind it we fitted the transformers for the lights. This is important because if something goes wrong with them, this way they can simply be changed. I have seen many units with lights that don’t work, all because the transformers are burried behind the units. I don’t wish that to anyone, it is not good design and shows no care for the final user.

To Tristan Titeux from Custom Carpentry, there are two important things that matter in business:

1. Doing the best possible for their customers.
2. Doing the best they can for the environment.

We are proud to be part of the Organisation for Responsible Business because it demonstrates that we take our fitted furniture business to another level of care. We don’t just do good business and give good service, we go far beyond that and make sure that we are totally ethical in the way our business is run.

If you are anything like me, you will not like being let down. I take it really badly when people let me down, I just don’t like someone saying to me that they will do something or turn up somewhere and they don’t, it just doesn’t make sense to me.
It just isn’t in my nature to do that to others, so I don’t understand it when people do that to me! If someone is going to let you down, they should at least warn you, I don’t mind if someone isn’t going to deliver, but at least if I know then I won’t sit there expecting!
Ok I do have high expectations of others, but I have high expectations of myself too, and I think others are like me! Well unfortunately that is not always the case, and when I do find someone who is, I treasure them. If I am dealing with a supplier for example, you just can tell if they are reliable, if they care etc, because they reply to your emails, they do what they say they will and that really impresses me.
I believe in treating others how I want to be treated, and if we put a customer’s job in the diary, we stick to it, and if we can’t we give as much notice as possible about any problem.
I am the kind of person that you can rely on, if you tell me that in 3 months I have to be somewhere I will be there, unless technology fails me or I forget to look in the diary! I am human too and if that happens, well at least I have the decency to let you know!
I don’t like letting people down and I feel incredibly bad if I ever do!

I have heard so many times people complaining about tradesmen that where supposed to be here and there, and not only don’t tell you, but just go missing for days, then they reappear, and because you are nice, you let them back in again. To me that just says a lot about someone, someone who doesn’t care about other people!

I take my work very personally, anything that doesn’t go right is a failure by me, and I won’t tolerate that, I will do everything I can to avoid that and to resolve it and not do it again. We all learn from our mistakes, that is the way to learn, (I wish someone told me that early on, then I might not have felt like such a failure!) Luckily I have been learning from mistakes for over 36 years now, and being on time actually is one that I learned very early on!

I used to stress myself to make sure was never late, but I didn’t like being early either, I just always had to be there at the exact time, I mean that is crazy, a recipe for an early death, so now I say I will arrive between 10 and 11am or 7 and 8pm, and since then I have managed to get rid of a lot of stress! I love my customers, but I don’t want to die for them!

There are no surprises with Custom Carpentry, we know your time is precious, we know you have to get to work in the morning and we won’t keep you waiting and stressing that you are going to miss your early morning meeting.

If there is a problem and we are going to be late, we will let you know.

So just relax and know that if you have booked us two months in advance, we will be there on the day we said!

Happy days…

Tristan Titeux
Director of Custom Carpentry

Don’t take my word for it, see what our customers say about us.

As well as Custom Carpentry there where some other people on the SCIN stand that I found interesting.

Carola Wochner is an interiors artist who makes modern art pieces inspired by nature: http://www.carolawochner.co.uk/

Interiors Artist Carola Wochner with her straw mat sculpture.

The art of Miles Watson: http://mileswatson.com/ at the SCIN Gallery stand.

These two examples are of Trios, you can see three different images depending on where you look from. There is an example of this in Portobello Road under the Bridge and if you walk in one direction you see one thing and when you walk in the other direction you see another. It is a great way to colour a dull wall in the street, or even in a long corridor or in an airport.

The art of Miles Watson as can be seen under the bridge in Portobello Road, London

Also on the SCIN stand were some tiles made from coconut shells. http://www.cocomosaic.com/

Coco Mosaic Coconut shell tiles.

Kebony is a totally amazing material. It replaces exotic hardwoods because it is treated using a totally natural product made form the waste liquid you get from producing sugar from beet and sugar cane, making a totally non toxic durable outdoor wood. http://www.kebony.com

While I was there I had a look at some other exhibiting materials on show.

Pavegen Making power using human step. These lights where powered by people walking on them.
