Alliance Francaise de Trivandrum will be organizing a drawing and sculpture workshop on February 11^th at Trivandrum. The workshop will be conducted by renowned artist and sculptor Sajitha Shankar. This workshop includes separate sessions for drawing and painting. The materials will be provided on the spot and also food is included for those who register. Hurry up as the registration open only till 6^th February.

Technopark Premier League kicked off from today

The eighth edition of the Technopark Premier League (TPL) has been kicked off on Technopark campus today. TPL is an inter-company cricket tournament organized every year by the Technopark and in this edition as many as 108 companies are taking part. The matches will be usually played on Saturdays, Sundays and other public holidays without compromising the working hours. This tournament will at least last for a time period of three long months. The first round of the TPL will be played in the league format followed by the knockout round. The qualifying matches will be of 10 overs and the quarterfinals will be 15 overs match. This is indeed a really good initiative taken by the Technopark to help the techies to unwind from their normal monotonous routine of hectic work and add spice to their work life.

Wiz Quiz 2012 on 4th February

The second season of Wiz Quiz 2012 will be conducted by the Asian School of Business on 4^th February here at Trivandrum. This time, Wiz Quiz is worth participating as the prize money is huge and will be hosted by the celebrity quiz master Rohit Nair. Rohit Nair will be testing the sharpest brains at the finest quiz competition of the year. Winners can take home Rs 50000/- with them. Along with the winners, the second place and third place holders can take Rs 25000/- and 10000/- with them. Kerala School IT Festival on 1st and 2nd February

The State School IT Festival 2012 would be held at the Technopark on February 1^st and 2^nd . as many as 500 students including the first and second position winners in district level technical festival are participating in this event. The competitions would be held separately for high school, higher secondary or vocational higher secondary sections. Competitions would be held in digital painting, IT Projects, multimedia presentation, IT quiz, Malayalam computing and web page design in four venues and that too in open source platform. It is for the fifth consecutive time that Technopark is playing host to the school IT Fest.

Apart from these competitions, IT Mela would see sessions on various IT topics of interest to the students so that students can interact with the IT professional in Technopark and learn from the functioning of various companies in Technopark. For the first time the International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS) Lab will also host some competitions to attract many students.

Conscientia 2012 – IIST Annual technology and astronomy festival is back

Indian Institute of Space Science Technology (IIST) is organizing its annual technology and astronomy festival – Conscientia 2012. This is one of the mightiest technological events held in God’s Own Country and is also the only festival in the country with an entire section devoted to astronomy and space sciences. Conscientia 2012 will be starting from March 1 and culminating on March 4at IIST, Trivandrum. Conscientia is all about sharing knowledge and what could be better than this platform for all those special breeds to reawaken their greatest weapon of knowledge – curiosity.

Kerala – The first and only to have two data-centres

Kerala becomes the first and only state in India to own two data centres after the setting up of the second data centre of the state at Technopark, Trivandrum. The second data centre set up at Technopark costs Rs 22.5 crore INR. The new data centre will enable various state departments and offices to host their services and applications thereby providing an enhanced way of storage capacity and communication to deal with the future e-governance activities of the state. The setting up of the second data centre will definitely boost up the Government to Government (G-to-G) as well as the Government to Citizen (G-to-C) initiative in the state. This is a much required step for a state like Kerala, as it is currently focusing in the development of its IT sector. In today’s market Kerala is opted as a preferable state for the investments in the IT field.

Edakkallu to get new sunset viewing points soon

Edakkallu in Kovalam is best known for its enchanting view of the sunset, but from the tourism view the condition of this place is pathetic nowadays. The tourism department is all set for the beautification of Edakallu in order to restore the name of Kovalam, the beach known across the globe for its scenic sunsets. As a part of beautification work of Edakkallu, the tourism department is currently concentrating in the areas between the Light house and Eve’s Beach. The beautification of Edakallu is being carried out as part of the ‘Destination Development Initiative’ and the budget approved for this task is Rs 49 Lakhs.

Edakkallu was once considered as one of the ideal locations for sunset viewing; but now the place is terribly hazardous for the tourists. Rocks around Edakkallu are slippery and unsafe for the tourists. The plan is to beautify Edakkallu into a Rock Garden, with the introduction of eco-friendly technology like bio-fencing. The Rock-Garden will be marked using bio-fencing by planting Pandanus trees. Apart from using Pandanus, Euphorbia plants will also be planted for beautification. Furniture made out of stone will be made for seating arrangements. This work is estimated to finish within a time period of a year.

Nishagandhi Festival from January 20th – 26th

Today God’s Own Country will come alive with the exotic fragrance of the Nishagandhi Festival. This event will unveil seven nights that celebrates classical Indian dance and music. Sangeetha Nataka Academy chairman Mr. Soorya Krishnamoorthy will mark the opening of a weeklong festival that lends a touch of magic to the cool nights with a beautiful blend of melody and rhythm and creates a world of sublime beauty. This program will try to promote national harmony by showcasing the unity of India even while it comprises a lot of diversity. As many as 250 artistes from different parts of the country would participate in the 90 minutes show at Nishaghandi Open Air Auditorium, Kanakakkunnu Palace in the evening; all under a star lit sky in the lush grounds. This program will open with a song that carries the spirit and the performance explaining the central theme through various art forms. The event will begin at 6:30 pm onwards. Global Ayurveda Festival from February 9th

Kerala is best known for its exotic and effective treatment in Ayurveda. The state capital is all set to host the biggest ever Global Ayurveda Festival from 9^th February with an aim to showcase the benefits and use of Ayurveda. This event will be mainly focusing on the various methods to tackle lifestyle disorders which we often face in our day to day life. About 2500 practitioners from across the world will be participating in this event.

Chief Minister Mr. Oommen Chandy will be inaugurating this event at Kanakakkunnu Palace. This six days long event (9^th – 14^th Feb) will have a host of activities displaying the grandeur of Ayurveda. Leading practitioners of Ayurveda will speak on various facets of the traditional form of medicine. This event will be purely a public education campaign and the students will also organize specialty clinics in which they will offer free consultations. Carnival at Sangumukham Beach on January 21st

The kite fliers of the capital are organizing ‘Beach Carnival’ at Sangumukham beach on 21^st January. This event is organized as a part of the ongoing Grand Kerala Shopping Festival as an initiative to encourage children and adults to spread the message of environmental awareness. This event will commence from 9 am and will include sand sculpture modeling, drawing and writing messages on sand to spread the message. This event is a unique competition to promote the art of sand modeling. In order to attract crown and amuse the children who are participating in this event, street magic will be performed by magician Raja Moorthy. Also musicians will be lined up singing western and country musics to entertain the participants and crowd in this amazing event. Renowned sand sculptures artist Deepak Mouthatil will be also present in this event to assist the participants and to spread Intel on the art of sand sculpturing.
