Welcome to another wonderful Tuesday, Trixie Fans. It's time for another Take $2 Tuesday. Here's a quick look at what's going for $2 today.

Would you like to take a closer look? First up is the kit. This week's kit is called Oceanside and it is the perfect kit for all those summer at the beach type photos. I really love the papers in this kit and the cute little seashell elements. I love the earthly color palatte in this kit and this kit really invokes a feeling of being at the beach.

To go along with the kit, we are putting an alpha up for only $2 as well. It is called Sand In The Bottle and it is the perfect alpha to compliment Oceanside. I really love the look of this alpha. I like that the sand isn't quite even in each letter and that the letters actually do look like bottles.

All these layouts and the kit make me want to head to the nearest beach (which for me would require a days drive or so to another state), just so I can have pictures to put this kit and alpha to use. Master's Monday: Challenge Yourself

When you first started scrapping, I'm sure you felt a little overwhelmed and possibly unsure of where to start. I know that when I started I was comparing my work with all the 'masters' in the industry and always felt my work just wasn't very good. I've since learned that everyone has their own styles and your style will come with time.

For me, that style is multiple photos and journaling on almost every single layout I do. I also like to scrap chronologically, which is something not a whole lot of scrappers do these days.

Our goal for this Masters Monday is for each of you to challenge yourselves. What aspect of scrapbooking is something that you absolutely love, but you are unsure or scared to do? For me, there's a few.

Number one has always been going out of my comfort zone and scrapping non-chronologically. Since joining Trixie CT, this has been something I've been able to overcome somewhat. (I'm still adamantly scrapping old photos chronologically.) Here's just a couple examples:

The real challenge for me that I took on this week, however, is scrapping without photos! I've seen a lot of people who are able to accomplish this and I'm always amazed. I'm such a visual person that scrapping without photos seems like it's breaking a major rule of scrapbooking. (It's not and there's no real rules in scrapbooking.)

So I've been thinking about this layout for a few days. I wanted to know exactly where I was going to go with this layout before I even began. Then I got to work and made sure I included all I wanted to include. It was super hard to resist the urge to put a photo in there somewhere, but I think it works great without it and I'm glad I challenged myself.

Now go get out of your comfort zone and try something you've always been scared to try. Then come share your work with us in the gallery. I'm anxious to see what you guys are afraid to try.

Sentiment Sunday {PRIDE}

Welcome back for the second installment of Sentiment Sunday! If you were here last month you'll recall that we talked about the definition of "sentiment" and how our scrapping is about sentiment, one way or another. For this month I thought we'd focus on PRIDE. Now, there are many definitions of pride, and some of them aren't necessarily scrap-worthy (although there's nothing wrong with scrapping the imperfect), but for our purposes let's use this one: pride - verb: to take pleasure in accomplishment. We're heading into the time of year most filled with events that evoke pride and our Trixie Scraps Stars have managed to capture some of these most excellently!

Saturday with the Stars {It's His Birthday}

Wow, it seems like birthdays have been the topic of the week! And today is no exception. This week's featured kit is It's His Birthday, Trixie's fabulous May Grab-a-Byte at Scrapbook Bytes.

The colour palette, with its blues, greens, browns and bronzes, is great for those masculine members of the family but can easily adapt to use for anybody and I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to use the kit for other special occasions either. Hidey-ho, fellow Trixie Scrappers! It's time once again for a photo challenge... are you up for it? When I was tapped for this month's photo challenge blog post it took me only seconds to choose a theme: celebration. Today is my "baby"'s 30th birthday, a milestone no one ever expected him to meet, so of course it's a time for major festivities at our house. (Without going into too many details, this young man has defied the odds his whole life and it's truly a miracle that he's still going strong.) Because today is Thursday and I'll be away this weekend, we had a party for him last Saturday.

This time of year is a time for celebrations: Mother's Day, graduations, weddings and the like. So I know you'll have an opportunity to snap some amazing memories. Here are some layouts from our Trixie Scraps Stars to inspire you and egg you on!

Masters Monday {How to Create a Photo Collage in Picasa}

Happy Monday everyone! Jackie here bringing you a fun Masters Monday tutorial on how to create a collage using Picasa, and how to use it in a fantastic layout.

I don't know about you, but sometimes I get scrappers block when I have a TON of photos from one event. I especially find this to be an obstacle when I have a lot of photos that don't have people in them. I want to include them all in my scrapping, but they really don't need to take up several pages. In this situation, collages can be the perfect solution. They allow you to highlight the more important photos by making them larger, but also make it possible to include a lot of other images on the page. Picasa 3 has a fantastic feature that makes creating collage as simple as a few clicks, and I'm going to show you jut how easy it is.

Choose which photos you want to use in your collage and move them all into one folder. The program does allow you to use photos from separate folders if you choose, but grouping them all together will make it much easier to keep track of things.
Prepare your photos. Make sure that your photos are cropped appropriately so that there isn't too much background showing around the focal point of the picture. Depending on how many photos are in the collage, your pictures may end up fairly small, so you want to make sure that the main subject of each photo is easily visible.
Open the folder containing your images in Picasa 3, and select "Create photo collage", the second icon under the folder name.

Choose the style of collage that works best for you. Picasa provides you with 4 style options:

Choose your background color and grid spacing on the left hand side of the screen. You can choose to have an image as the background color, so you could select your background paper here, but I prefer to choose a bright color which I can then select and replace in my scrapbooking software, Photoshop CS4. It allows me more flexibility in playing the the collage on my final layout.
Choose your dimensions. Picasa has a variety of preset sizes under the Page Format option on the left side of the screen, but also allows you to enter your own project dimensions if you choose. For my layout, I selected a size of 9in by 10in. This way, I will have some space to play with around my collage on my final page. Remember, it is always easier to scale your collage down on your final layout, without losing quality, than it is to scale it up.
Move your photos around. Picasa allows you to drag and drop photos from one slot to another. This allows you to easily decide which photos to emphasize in the larger spaces.
Click the Create Collage button to have Picasa automatically save a JPEG version of your collage.

So now you have your collage. If you like, this can be your final layout, or you can use your preferred scrapbooking software to further enhance it. Remember how I talked about using Photoshop to change the background color.

I first placed my collage in a brand new layout and added a background paper for the whole page. Then, using my magic wand tool, I selected the brightly colored collage background and right clicked to "Layer via Cut". By clipping my preferred paper to this newly created layer I can easily change the collage background. I then added in some elements, a little bit of journaling, and a title, and voila! Here's my final layout.

I really love how she has spread her title across the page, and the cute little journal card that she included.

Masters Monday - {Making the Most of Templates}

Greetings Trixie Scrappers! Did you survive all the iNSD festivities? I know you're all just itching to play with your new acquisitions and I'm bringing you a little tutorial to help you maximize your goodies. North Meets South Studios, the illustrious duo of our own Trixie Scraps and Connie Prince, released their May Templatetopia on May 3 through Gotta Pixel and Scrapbook Bytes. For the uninitiated, Templatetopia is a collection of four (yes, FOUR) sets of brand-new templates - a total of sixteen lovely time-savers - all for the low, low price of $3.99. The deal is only available for one month, so get 'em while you can! Anyway. I digress. Back to the topic at hand...Oh, and by-the-bye, I work in Photoshop Elements 10, but this technique should work with most software.

Templates are great tools for creating beautiful layouts in record time. But sometimes you just can't find a single template in your stash that really gives you what you want. Close, but no cigar. But all is not lost! You can combine two templates to make it exactly what you're looking for. And I'm going to show you how to do it!

For my layout, I wanted to use two recent photos; I wanted one to be large-and-in-charge and one to echo and accent. Choosing a template wasn't quite as easy. I couldn't find one that gave me exactly what I wanted, but the second template in Trixie's Standing Alone V.4 set from March's Templatetopia was close. All it was missing was the second photo.

Connie Prince had a round bordered photo with a cute little cluster right there in Double the Fun V.2. So I was set!

Let's get started. Choose your two templates and open both of them in your scrapping software. Double click on the one you want to borrow from so that it's open on your workspace. Select the layers that contain the items you want to copy. To select multiple layers, CTRL>click on each layer in the layers palette which will highlight them all for you. Your workspace will look like this:

Next step: right-click on your selected layers then select "duplicate layers". That will pop up a "duplicate set" menu that looks like the image below. Click on the triangle at the right side of the "document" drop-down menu and select the destination, which will be the other template you have open in your bin. Then tell it OK.

Double-click on your foundation template and your addition will now be flung down in the middle of it.

This is the fun part. Now you can move, resize, rotate and reposition your addition. For my layout, I also shifted some of the elements of my foundation template to give me a pleasing composition.

From this point on, it's like using any other template. Build your layout, and you're good to go! If one of your templates is pre-shadowed and the other isn't you can copy the layers style from one to the other pretty simply by right-clicking on a similar layer then selecting "copy layer style", selecting the unshadowed layer, right-clicking and selecting "paste layer style". Voila! That's really all there is to it!!

I used Trixie's May 1 new release Spring Fling, part of the Gingerscraps Buffet. And what does my completed layout look like? This!

Saturday With the Stars {Spring Fling}

Hi there Trixie Scraps fans! I hope iNDS weekend is treating you all well so far. There are lots of fun games, prizes, freebies, and sales to be had all over digi world this weekend, and today I want to share with you a new collection that you're sure to want to scoop up. Spring Fling is a brand new collection, made up of 9 individual packs, released only a couple of days ago at Ginger Scraps as part of this months Buffet.

The colors in this kit are so beautiful, and just scream sunshine and warm weather to me. There are lots of different patterned papers in this collection, and the solids are such nice soft tones too. I think my favorite thing about this collection though has got to be the floral elements. Brightly colored daisies are some of my favorite flowers, and the ones in this kit are absolutely perfect. I also really love the subtly glittery elements that are included. The Scrap Stars have been having a great time playing with this kit, so lets take a look at some of their fabulous creations.

This layout by Shauna is so cute. I really love that the series of photos captures a less than perfect moment, but tells a great story about what was going on. The variety of patterned papers used on this page all look great together, as does her clustering.

The first thing that struck me about this page by Helen S is those fun photos. It looks like a great day at the park. I really love how the sunny photos are complimented by the colors in this kit, and those clusters look great too. The way she has arranged her title on this page is also a lot of fun.

Carrin has created an absolutely gorgeous layout with this kit too. I adore her use of white space, and the way she has used the same plaid paper both behind, and on top of her embossed mat. The sepia effect on that photo make it blend beautifully with the palette of this kit, and her cluster work is lovely.

I love me some layers, and Jennifer B has created a great layout with lots of them. I really love how she has arranged such a great variety of shots of a fun outdoor adventure. That journaling card works perfectly for telling the story of the day, and I really love the alpha she used to create her title.

What a fun series of photos Kris captured on this beautiful layout. I really love the variety of shapes and sizes used for the pictures, and those neat staggered frames. She had places her cute little flowers and clusters at just the perfect spots too, and that word art makes a terrific title.

Fun Font Friday {PZ.Sun} - May 3

Welcome to Fun Font Friday. Well, spring has definitely arrived. The weather is getting a little warmer each day, things are getting green, and we have a little more sunlight each day. All of that extra sun inspired me to seek out a font that would work well for a page all about a great day outdoors. As always, my search led me to tons of gorgeous fonts, but I had to choose just one to share with you today. PZ.Sun is just perfect for your sunny day layouts. Each upper case letter has a cute little sun on it, and the type is nice and bold, making it perfect for titles.

Masters Monday {Staying In the Loop}

Hi there Trixie Scraps fans, and welcome to the final Masters Monday of April 2013. As some of you may know, Google Reader will no longer be available as of July 1, 2013, so we wanted to make sure that all of you who use this service to follow our blog have an alternate way of staying in touch. We have a few suggestions for you, so lets dive right in.

The Feed Reader Option: Feedly

For those of you who want to continue us via a feed reader, we suggest using this service at http://www.feedly.com. This site will allow you to seamlessly transition from Google Reader, and even allows you to import directly from your Google Reader account. Since it is a separate service, there are some differences, but Feedly is expecting many users to migrate to its service with the closure of Google Reader, and has posted some great tips for Google Reader users migrating to feedly to aid in the transition.

The Newsletter Option: FeedBlitz

If you prefer to have our daily blog post forwarded directly to your email inbox, then FeedBlitz may be the solution for you. You can quickly and and easily sign up for this option by entering your email address in the box on the right hand side of the Trixie Scraps blog. I've highlighted this area in the screencap below.

The Social Media Option: Facebook

Are you constantly connected to your Facebook account? Then following our blog posts couldn't be easier, as all of our blog posts are broadcast to our Facebook page each day. Simply head to the Trixie Scraps Facebook page and "Like" us. Then make sure to check mark "Show in News Feeds" so we show up on your front page. Take a look at the image below to see what I mean. If you like, you can also choose to "Get Notifications," which will put any posts from our page in your notifications window, too!

One of these options should be perfect for you.

Sunday Show Offs - {April 28, 2013}

Happy Sunday everyone and welcome to a long overdue edition of Sunday Show Offs! We haven't forgotten about all of you lovely folks who share your gorgeous layouts with us in the gallery every week, but we did have some obstacles to overcome with our slideshow. The good news is that we are back up and running. Today we are back to share with you 6 weeks worth of gallery goodness.

So how do you get involved in the Show Offs? Simply upload your layout using Trixie Scraps products to the Trixie Scraps Gallery and I'll put it in the next Show Off slideshow! We'll then send you a code via the Trixie Scraps Gallery message system for your prize! It's that simple! Make sure you check your messages often, as the prizes do expire! It does take us a week or two to get you your code, so please be patient! Today's slideshow features six weeks of fabulous layouts from our gallery. So grab a cup of your favorite warm beverage, pull up a chair, and enjoy the show of all the lovely layouts that have been posted in the Trixie Scraps Gallery over the last six weeks.
