Change is good. It can be awesome and motivating and creative. It can be like giving in to the idea that maybe what's good for others isn't right for you. And that can be so freeing.

Trixiegirl has become something that has becoming a little forced. I've been following someone else's idea of how to build a following. How to sell a product. But without a heart attached to it. It has just become a to-do. A plan that some people follow, but I am not feeling what is authentic to me. I'm not talking about re-inventing the wheel, but I need to take some time to figure out the direction that I want to go. I've been doing somewhat the same thing for a while now. And I'm needing a new direction.

My blog, products, customers, are something that make me smile. And I hope a little more of an authentic me will make them smile a little more. So there won't be a pattern. There won't be a rhyme or reason. And that's me.

Hope you can handle an authentic change and a little more of me.

A week in pictures

Tgif my friends. I think it's time to up the voltage in the lights around the house. These past couple weeks have been a little long. And this winter hasn't even been very bad! On to the show.

Most Saturdays start like this. Ella yells pankcakes! Um, excuse me? You are not Will Farrell in Wedding Crashers. I make about 100 pancakes because that's her daily favorite for breakfast. It's easier to whip up the p-cakes while I drink coffee and she watches tunes. What a life.

I took this while she was watching tv. I love those freckles, lips, cheeks, and little body filled with so much love and compassion.

It's jump-ropin season. She came in and out of the house with a different number of jumps each time. Remember when your mom used to say "In or Out!" I might have pulled that one.

It's also just put your food outside to set, season. Takes up a lot less room that I don't have.

To make sure people don't see your puffy, cold-coming-on eyes, grab the sunglasses and red lipstick. Then people will just wonder why you have red lipstick on at Costco.

I ended up doing crafts alone. Apparently Scooby was more important.

I'll do a post coming up with some simple Valentine crafts for ya!

I've been fighting a cold this week. Boom. It can't touch me with Lemon and Thieves.

Ideas for stress relief

I know that everyone deals with stress and has stress in their life. Sometimes small and sometimes very overwhelming. And for me, in the grand scheme of things, my problems are small compared to others. And with that said, who should compare problems? No one.

But to help with the little stresses of life, I thought I would share some of my helpful calming tips. Which is also funny if you know me. I am a lot calmer than I used to be. But still. Lol

1. Diffuse oils.
I use Young Living Peace and Calming. I also apply it to my wrists. It's my go-to oil for calming the heck down.

2. Work out.
I'm not perfect with this, but it completely helps. I've started watching videos of Bruno, JT, Beyoncé and JLo on Youtube. They get me thru. And I feel like if I try to get off the eliptical early, Jlo's abs are giving me a dirty look.

3. Sleep.

Sometimes like a little baby, you just need some sleep. With a cute, soft night mask. And lavender diffusing. And a blankey from your mom. And if you do that and feel like it didn't help, just think that you now have 2 less hours in your crappy day!

4. Wine.

5. Shopping.

Usually I just get out and go thrift shopping. That's my favorite thing in the world to do. Shocking right? I have been known to go buy make-up from time-to-time. Or clothes. I like to stay well-rounded.

6. Baths.
Some like, some don't. I 100% love.

7. A good friend "complain" fest. My close girls are so kind when I go off and just get it out. It's always over the phone/text. I love my close friends. They are THE best. I should write a post about my close friends but they would kill me. And that makes me want to gush more.

8. Chocolate. Obviously.

You too can wear a hat!

I hear this from time to time. I can't wear a hat because, I don't look good in hats because. I have heard THE best comment to date. Something about her ears. She's adorable and one of my best customers. And her ears are cute and totally normal.

My reason that I don't wear a ton of hats is because I like pretty neutral things. Black, grey, navy. I find myself just my wearing my hats without anything on them! GASP. That's a great billboard for your business.

I grabbed a navy hat the other day. (listed by the time you read this!)

So friends I'm here to share with the class that you too, can wear a hat AND it can be neutral!!!

Favorite winter skin lotions

I'm sure that these can be used outside of the North Pole, but these are some tight skin wonders. When I wake up in the morning, my face and hands are tight. Like they are saying, water me! The air is so dry up here. So, I have found a couple things that I am in love with and would probably freak out if I ran out. This is on top of my normal skin care.

So, these body butters are the cream of the coffee. Or crop. Whatever.

This tub of wonder sinks into the skin and keep my skin so hydrated. They come in a billion scents. My favorites are honey, almond, shea and argan oil.

They are pricy unless you stock up at TJ Maxx because they are 5.99 instead of $20.00

This Aveda face cream was given as a gift to me.

It is used on days I need a lot of extra moisture on my face.

You need very little. Its so thick, but is magical and keeps my skin in check.

So during the day, if you have your make-up on or not, and you feel like you need a little hydration, spray this on. It's a hydrating mist you can use any time.

Pinteresting things-{Sunday}

Well good morning friends. How has your weekend been? It's been pretty warm here in MN. Well compared to negative temps anything is warm. There are days you just can't get warm here. Cold to the bone!

How about some Pinterest to-do list items for the week? Or not when you see the things I've been pinning.

I think I pinned this 3 times before I realized I was pinning the same perfect little place. I'm obsessed with little cabins. And tiny homes. And small living. So, I finally made a board for it. Weird?

Quite the opposite, probably more of a summer salad that I will eat in the winter because that's what we do in MN, is this salad. I like blogging because I can do run-on sentences and it's ok.

Doesn't it look so good? And summery? Ah, summer. You never miss it as much as when winter is 14 months long.

You probably won't find this type of tray at Goodwill, but it's out there and I'll find it. So cute for hanging things.

I already know what kind of pics I would hang on it. Black and white, old pics from when it was perfectly fine to use a camera! Now I really want this tray.

You could hang it on the wall or lean it against the wall. I'll let you know what I do when I find it. ;)

It's possible that these got pinned. And by that I mean purchased. Dang Pinterest. But that's kinda like setting a goal and meeting it! Yeah me!

Week in pictures

We had a busy week this week, just like most people. I hope you all have a good Friday and weekend. On to the show!

Yesterday was a huge sale on headbands. I did post a bunch of ideas on my fb page. Sometimes with so many choices, it helps to have ideas.

I know. It looks gross. But it is sooo good. I am missing the spinach and garlic. But when I make it this weekend I will have them. Here is the recipe.

I love wrapping orders. It's almost as fun for me as making them. So, get ready for a pretty package when you order!

Inspiration-{Peacock Blue Cowl]

Time for an inspiration post. The inspiration today are items that inspire the color for the peacock blue cowl that is new to Trixiegirl. When I was looking for yarn colors, I knew this was one I was looking for. It is one of those colors that looks good on everyone.

All of the cowls in my shop are made by me. A lot of places just sell machine-made items that a pumped out without the time and love of a human hand. Support people, not machines when you have a choice. :)

DIY-{Chalkboard Paint Pots}

Time for a cheap, easy DIY. Who has time for more? Or patience? Nah.

I mentioned here last week that I wanted to get more plants in the house. They are supposed to be good for allergies and making the air fresher (I'm so technical).

So here are the victims.

You will also need Chalkboard paint (this can will last you forever), spongy paint brushes and chalk.

Take you plant, put it in a bowl and whip the plastic pot off.

Yes, we are painting this little flimsy pot.

Put one coat of the chalkboard paint on the pot. Then don't wait 6 hours like you should.

It's like nail polish. Just put the second coat on.

Let them dry.

Look at these gems!

Attention professional chalk drawers: look away.

Time to decorate. Name them, write the watering directions on them, etc.

Now find a home for your fancy plants! You don't need to buy pots when you can just paint them. :)

Sunday favories-{a follow-up}

Can we first do a little follow-up story? Remember this post from November?
Let's add me calling stores all over the US for this dang dress, checking ebay, the internet. This is basically stalker type of stuff.
So, fast-forward to December say 23rd.
Place: Grand Rapids, MI Anthropologie.

Now, the last time I dragged my mom to Anthro, it was for a fun (I can't even type this I'm laughing so hard) "holiday workshop". Workshop is what we thought was making some super cute decoration or a take-home item. Nope. It was working to make their holiday window displays. At one point, they gave us a break, lucky us, and I looked over and my mom was the only one working. lol

We crimped this silver paper stuff. So weird. This is what it looked like. Imagine going for a fun craft and being put to work. But such a good story.

Back to the good stuff.
It was an extra 20% off day. I dragged my mom there and apparently everyone else got my special email about the sale. I always go to the clearance room first. Sometimes I try not to, but I just feel like an itchy sweater. Something is wrong when I do that.

I was looking at the rack of dresses. Then I looked a second time from the other side of the same rack.

I saw her.

In my size.

I attacked my mom. I attacked the sales lady (who probably thinks I was either a nut-ball or high). And of course I told her too much. The whole long story.

She made Christmas so much prettier! And my cute cousins and photo-bombing Uncle. ;)

Remember kids, persistence pays off. And makes you look cray-cray.

Thought I'd share some pictures of this past week. I use social media a lot, so to not have shared pictures is hard. I love looking at people's pictures and sharing mine too.

My eyes went right to her hands at the dentist. So sweet and gentle. Unlike mine that are usually gripping the chair for dear life.

Someone told me a story about when they were watching Bruno Mars on the eliptical and fell off because he told her to start dancing. She is trying to be more careful in case he reads this and is worried about her. Don't worry, she's ok. ;)

I stopped at one of my favorite thrift stores near town to get some supplies. I needed a new display for a store that carries my products. Got some wood, drawers and chicken wire. I'll take a pic when I fill it up. Which you should hopefully see by the time you read this.

A bag of 20 books in my girl's hand. I love her face when I said she couldn't check out more than 20 books. Like I said "no more fun ever". My little reader.

I have a love/hate relationship with 25 piles of books everywhere.

E and I have been working on this puzzle for a week. It's been a little bonding time here and there. Fun to see her accomplish something as simple as a puzzle. Beats tv.

A beautiful note came from my grandpa in the mail. "This might have been the best Christmas ever." he said. Tears ensued.

I love looking at pictures especially for inspiration. Colors, shapes, clothes, fabric. I love looking at combinations that wouldn't necessarily be placed next to each other. Pairs that are forced to be together, but end up loving it. ;)

Sometimes they are obvious though. Black and mustard. Always. Throw a little grey in there and I'm a puddle.

DIY Glitter Deer

Thought I would start doing some more simple DIY projects on the blog. I 'm always wanting to do DIY projects at home. I look for simple things to do too. So, I'll try to do one a week! I have a DIY board on Pinterest, so you can find some of the things I do here.

After I take my Christmas decorations down, I have some empty frames that need filling. So I looked on Pinterest and found tons of free printables. Anything you can imagine. I saw this little guy and thought it would be perfect. But he needed something else

I used a small stolen paint brush from Ella, Tiger Eye glitter (any color you want) from Martha Stewart and Mod Podge (or any glue you have on hand)(not pictured).

Doesn't this look so professional with the child's paintbrush?

I took the glue and just spread a thin layer around the picture. I did want crisp lines so I took a little bit of time on the edges. A little too much because I had to go back in and add more glue because it started to dry. Brilliant.

Next take your glitter and shake it all over the picture. You will have excess, so try to bend the picture and shimmy the glitter around. You might have to add more glue, but it doesn't matter if it gets mixed up with the glue because it will dry clear. You might need to shake it off....

Now set it to dry.

Then hope you have a friend as nice as my sweetie girl Leah and grab the frame her handy hubs made for me. For her to give me. You get the driftwood. I'm done.

Isn't it gorgeous?

Once it's dry, it will look wrinkled at first, but after pressed into the glass, it flattens out.

Happy Sunday Y'all! I'm Southern in my dreams. Hope you are all coming down from a busy month and saying a silent YES! if you have kiddos going back to school. Or just a deep breath for having some sort of schedule again.

Once my Christmas decorations are taken down, I feel like my house looks so empty. I'm looking for some cute things for my half bath. This is perfection. Looks like I'll be heading to the dollar store for some soap to unwrap.

We have a ton of allergies in the house. I think it's time for some house plant help. They say they are really good for cleaning the air. Maybe I can get better at not killing them. :)

I re-opened the shop and these are my favorite new earrings this week. And you don't have to decide which pair you like the best because they come together! You can keep a pair, give a pair or keep both!

Fresh start

What is it about the feeling of a fresh start? I just think that a new year is like endless possibilities. It's like a Monday, but way better for starting new.   It's like a free pass to be brave.
Nope, can't do it today, have to wait til the new year.
It's so funny, but true. It gives us a pass to wait and keep slacking or just doing the same old thing...until the new year!   Bring it on. It's the new year. I've all of the sudden figured things out!

What are you going to do differently this year? Maybe I'll learn how to keep my house clean. Or maybe I'll stick to planning a menu for the week. I think mine are all called being an adult. Not sure I'm ready yet. Maybe I'll figure out how to drink 760 oz of water. Or maybe I'll stop smiling when I vacuum up a lego or barbie shoe.

I don't like to commit to resolutions. I like to test the waters of different things. Thinks I keep trying to do, but just do kinda halfish. Maybe I'll make a cleaning schedule. Or I could just dig up the one from last year.   I'm not going to be hard on myself. There are bigger fish to fry in this world. (Fish, I'll add that to the "menu"). Cereal is a meal you know.

I think to-do lists are good for me. They are kind of like a daily resolution. Sometimes a resolution that is still there the next day. Just with a different day of the week at the top of the list.
My favorite thing to do is think of something that I've done, like drink my coffee, then add it to my to-do list, and be able to cross it off. Bam. Take that to-do list. You know you do it. Right?

So, what we've learned is that I need to grow up, figure myself out, focus, stick to one task, take care of my family, run a small business, get rid of negativity around me, treasure the good stuff, etc. The list goes on and on. I hope that you will enjoy my little attempt to blogging this year. More consistantly. I try it often. I wonder if people are out there reading it? I know a couple are. So, if you are one of those couple, thanks! Because this might be a complete and utter hot mess.

But we can add that to our to-do lists! Utter hot mess blog, check! ;)

Happy New Years friends! You are probably either still sleeping, wishing you were still sleeping or thinking about going to sleep. Drink, eat and sleep some more and you'll be good as new!

I closed Trixigirl a couple weeks ago for some time with my family and to travel. The 2014 holiday season was like nothing I've ever had before. I am still in awe of the people that support this small business. They keep coming back! It's like baby Target. So thank you for making this past year the most successful one Trixiegirl has had. But 2015 will be blowing that out of the water right? ;)

So my thoughts for a while were to clean things up in my shop. Change and make better. I started from scratch. Like I was opening a new store. I got rid of old things that were just hanging around cluttering up my shop. It was kind of like deep cleaning a house. (Which I also have to do. blech.) Everything from new products, new pictures, new policies (is there a more fun word?), new attitude.

Making traditions

There is such a pressure with family traditions. What do you do? What new traditions do you have with Ella? AHHHH. I don't know and I don't know! We just do what we do and do what we like.

But I did start one tradition. And if you think about it, it came from being selfish. See I decided I want to decorate the big tree in the living room. The way I want. With burlap and mercury glass and German glitter.

Yes, you've already seen this picture.

For all of the other ornaments, I gave everyone a little tree.
I'm all about giving.

One, two, three like Goldilocks.

Everyone can put their ornaments on their own tree and they all sit together at the top of the stairs together. Three. Like our family that is perfect to us.

Every year I buy E and Mark a new ornament. They have a little tree to go on at the top of the stairs.

Time to get real. The best is the before to this after.

Get this girl to stop moving so we can get a little picture. Yeah right.

I just carry the trees downstairs after Christmas. Ornaments and all. But every year, we re-ornament the trees. Fluff and ornament. Exhibit A.

We examine everything and talk about when she got things. Who got this for me? When did you get that? Can I have that one?

I won't gush for long, but yesterday's turnout for my Holiday Open House was awesome. I was nervous until I didn't have a second to think about being nervous. My customers know what they want, so off we went. Orders orders orders. I'm gonna be busy for a while. :)

Sunday favorites

Try this. A sleepover + daylight savings = many extra hours for this mom! It takes a lot for me to lay down for a nap. I'm raising a little girl just like that.

She might miss the wind blowing! Who needs sleep!

So how about a few favorite things I've seen this week.

I acquired a great collection of pink vintage ornaments last year after Christmas.

I can't wait to put them on display and this is perfect. I don't have pink in my home decor, so a splash of it will be a little festive.

I would like to thank Anthro for letting me watch this beautiful frock for months and months waiting for a sale. Low and behold it's gone! Not even clearance A-thro?Whahhhh. I just keep looking at it here, on my phone and the over-priced sellers making a buck on Ebay.

I love this idea!!! I have tried tons of ideas to keep my necklaces from getting tangled. You put your jewels in between two pieces of the heaven-sent Press'n Seal. I don't care how horribly uncute it looks. At least you won't have 5 necklaces stuck together with an earring sticking out of the middle.

I love this idea for an advent calender or countdown calender! I'm gonna hit up Goodwill later today to get started looking for Christmas books. My little reader will LOVE this.

We don't have any big trees that I can get a branch from...but I have friends that do! Or neighbors....

Cold weather lip favorites

It seems that I am becoming smarter as the years in MN pass by. Like gearing up and being prepared for colder weather and winter with my favorite go-to lip favs. I might do some more of these, but for now let's start with the smacker.

First. I have bought scrubs, but you can make them for cheaper and IMO, they can taste better. You need to exfoliate your lips. For this I use:

An empty chapstick tube (I emptied it)

Next grab your:

I have no recipe. Get a bowl and spoon. Maybe start with a teaspoon of each.

I use more sugar than oil. The coconut oil goes a long way.

Mix it in a bowl and then fill the tube with the mixture.

Voala! It's a great scrub and you can just lick it off.

Another staple around here is good 'old Aquaphor. We mostly use this on our lips.

But it's good for any cracked or chapped skin. I heart Aquaphor.

I also have 6 (because E told me) of these. But I buy them on sale here.

And you don't pronounce the L in Salve. But I d...;)

And good ole Bag Balm. Yes, that's a cow utter on it. But I use it for my lips. Moooooo.
