Manukan Tropical Island Part 1

Manukan island is located near the coast of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. It has a few good stretches of white sandy beaches and the water is crystal clear. You can see exotic fishes swimming and beautiful coral beds in the water. Thus its a great place for snorkeling and diving activities.

Manukan island is the second largest island of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine National Park. The marine park basically comprises of five islands: Pulau Gaya (Gaya Island), Pulau Sapi (Sapi Island), Pulau Manukan (Manukan Island), Pulau Mamutik (Mamutik Island) and Pulau Sulug (Sulug Island).

To go there you need to take the boat ride from the Kota Kinabalu Town Jetty.The boat ride to Manukan Island usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

This is the entrance to the jetty. It is clean and filled with a lot of vintage Kota Kinabalu Town pictures on the wall (see the pictures hanged on the orange wall on the right).

This picture shows what Jesselton like, during the 1950s. By the way, Jesselton is what Kota Kinabalu Town is formerly known during that time.

At the jetty, there are many shops selling t-shirts, keychains and crafts originated from Sabah. In the picture, on the right hand side, there is an entry door to the ticket counter to buy boat tickets to Manukan Island.

This picture was taken while I'm on the boat. Its a medium size boat that can accomodates 10-15 passenggers. During my ride, it was smooth because the water is calm. Make sure you wear the life-jacket given during the ride.

This is what you can see when you look down the Manukan Island Jetty. Exotic fishes!!. Make sure to bring along some bread to feed these fishes so that they will come nearer to you.

The white sandy beaches of the island. What more can I say.

The passage in the island where you can find restaurants and chalets.

Tourists snorkeling in the water. There are also many trees by the beach to shade you if the weather is getting too hot, especially during the noon.

The red buoys as you can see in the picture is the mark of the snorkeling zone. You are advised not to snorkel beyond that buoys for security reason.

This picture was taken during late in the evening.

The island authority also provides benches and resting places for your comfort. Please put your things properly and make sure your important documents like passports, tickets and money are kept in a safe place hidden.
