A Maryland mother has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder after admitting to cops she suffocated her two young children.
Sonya Spoon, 24, was taken into custody early Sunday morning after Kayla Thompson, 3, and 1-year-old Ayden Spoon were found unconscious by cops in a home in Cheverly, the Prince George’s County Police Department said.
Little Kayla and Ayden later died at the hospital, and their deaths were ruled homicides, cops said. The cause of the deaths is still to be determined, but the kids’ mother confessed to cops that she suffocated the children.

The remains were found in a brown laundry bag about noon by New York City Parks Department workers conducting a survey of Elders West Island, the source said.

The bodies of Clarence and Shauna Washington, both 35, along with their three children — Olivia, 4; Onya, 6; and Omesha, 13 — were found inside the family’s Culpeper house after relatives went to check on them about 10 p.m. Sunday, WRC-TV reported. Read more below…

Friends and family told investigators that the parents had been arguing for some time and got into a heated spat Saturday night, the local NBC affiliate reported. Authorities said they never received any emergency calls from the home. Investigators believe the husband fatally shot his family after an argument with his wife and then killed himself. The deaths have been preliminarily ruled a murder-suicide, the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office said, according to WTTG-TV.

Defense Attorney Troy Smith claims the line of questioning related to the alleged van incident brought out some major inconsistencies in the girl’s story.
“In her statement to police, she says that the van doors were facing the back of the school and now she’s saying the van was facing the other way.”

She was accused of scalding her child’s right knee and left ankle with a lighter, police sources said.

It was not immediately revealed why she scalded her child, who is now being cared for the city’s Administration of Children’s Services.

Barnes allegedly crept up behind murder victim Terry Nathaniel, 23, as he bought marijuana from one of the other victims at about 2:30 a.m., put his arm around Nathaniel’s shoulder and blasted him once in torso. He then opened fire on the rest.

In an interview with police, the victim said that he and the teacher often had sex in her car during school hours, but not on school grounds. He also said the teacher supplied marijuana for him and his friends, and that she assaulted him and threatened to fail him when he discussed ending the relationship.

Deputy District Attorney Robert Himelblau said his office won’t decide whether to seek the death penalty until much later in the legal process.

In the first incident, on January 13, police said the boy got a ride with his older brother to the mall, then said he had to use the restroom and met the woman at her car, where they had sex. In the subsequent incidents, McCall picked the boy up after he told his parents he was going on a bike ride.
