American Products Company APC is the company that started it all over a decade ago with their all clear taillights and in a short time became the largest aftermarket lighting accessory company in the industry. They were featured in Movies, Commercial on the shelves of Aftermarket Stores, Auto Parts, and even Walmart. APC has gone through a few ownership changes and will soon be a dissolved brand.
CG Distribution ( ANZO USA ) has 30 years of experience in the manufacturing field. CG began there performance lighting line back in 2007. CG is one of the few companies that is QS9000 certified as well as ISO9001, certificates also from US DOT, NHTSA, FMCSA, and SAE. They are a company that is very adamant about there Quality standards. They keep a very good stock on hand here in the states for quick order fulfillment. Since the quality of there products is superior to most of the brands that are sold it makes sense that the installation is fairly easy generally all direct replacement. Their warranty is 1 year for most all their products and they stand behind it although keep your originals if you do not want to be out of pocket anything. Meaning like all companies the defective product must be returned before the replacements are shipped. If you want the new ones first you will have to pay for a 2nd set then be refunded upon original return. If there is any knock on CG it is that they keep there designs subtle, nothing to outrageous. Overall they are an outstanding company with a superior product.
Other then APC , In pro Car Wear has been making performance lighting accessories the longest. Much like CG they place the utmost importance on Quality insuring that there products will last. IPCW is certified MVSS-108, DOT, as well as SAE. IPCW keeps a very good stock on in hand for quick and complete order fulfillment. Product fitment is very good as well and can be traced back to their quality standards. Their warranty is 1 year for most all their products and they stand behind it although keep your originals if you do not want to be out of pocket anything. Meaning like all companies the defective product must be returned before the replacements are shipped. If you want the new ones first you will have to pay for a 2nd set then be refunded upon original return. With many similarities to a company like CG with high Quality Standards, Great Customer Service and a solid Warranty, There is one extreme difference while CG is simple with there design very OE appearing, IPCW has the most outrageous , and innovative designs in the industries. If there is a downside to IPCW it is there costs, while CG is an outstanding product that competes in the price range of the lower end product IPCW is generally more expensive. However; it is a product that is unique and has no imitators so there products are very unique. Overall IPCW is an excellent choice for performance light especially if you are looking to stand out from the crowd.
Option Racing Group has one of the more extensive line of products of the six companies being reviewed. However; lets stick to the lighting, For a decade now ORG has established an extensive manufacturing network overseas. This has allowed ORG to go through different manufacturing facilities and offer there products at a low cost which is passed on to the consumer. The draw back to this type of manufacturing is quality, with multiple vendors quality control is difficult and unfortunately the finished product suffers. Availability is somewhat scattered more popular vehicle are generally readily available while some of the less popular (IE Crown Vic, Saturn SL, Etc) will have limited availability. Customer Service is fair they will answer questions on the product, installation, and availability. Do not expect immediate responses though. Warranty is a huge problem with ORG most items only carry a 30 day warranty, also be prepared to provide pictures, and detail on the warranty issue. The fitment is fair many items will be direct replacement, there will be the occasion when you will need to oblong a hole, or make one larger, or insert a screw at an angle which is common with some of your standard aftermarket products. Overall I would say the ORG line is for the budget minded wanting the look of the performance lighting at an economical price.
Spec-D Tuning came on the scene in 2003, much like ORG they have multiple manufacturing sources which also hinders their quality control. There customer service is good, they provide speedy replies either through phone or email and are knowledgeable about the line. A standard trend that is in the performance lighting segment of automotive accessories in regards to warranty is the lower the quality of product the lower the quality of warranty. SDT features a 90 day warranty in which you will need to provide photos, and a detailed description of the defective item. The fitment is fair many items will be direct replacement, there will be the occasion when you will need to oblong a hole, or make one larger, or insert a screw at an angle which is common with some of your standard aftermarket products. SDT provides multiple options for most vehicle to provide you with a customization that's more suitable to your individual styling. Overall I would say the SDT line falls into the budget minded category all though they are good for a budget guy there are still much better options.
Spyder is another company that has been around for about 10 years now. They show to be a QS9000,ISO9002 certified company. However their quality does not compare to CG & IPCW. Of the 3 budget minded companies they feature the most innovative designs and would be probably slightly better quality then the other two they would still fall short of the top two as far a quality is concerned. Warranty is an on going issue with many performance light companies and Spyder's warranty is lacking. Spyder has a 90 day warranty compared to the other QS9000 certified companies at 1 year leaves to be desired. Also be sure to have pictures and a detailed account of the defect ready. The fitment is fair many items will be direct replacement, there will be the occasion when you will need to oblong a hole, or make one larger, or insert a screw at an angle which is common with some of your standard aftermarket products. One of the biggest issues with Spyder's lighting line is a subpar seal. If you were to add a bead of silicone around the lamps upon receiving them this would reduce warranty issues by about 90 percent as most warrantees are in regards to leaky seals. Overall Spyder has much potential as they have some innovative , out of the box designs with an improvement in quality and warranty they could be a contender for the time being they will have to be the king of low end.
