Hey blogging friends! It's been a while. I've been super busy with
1) A promotion at work,
2) Our Homeless Ministry - you can read about that here,
3) My "Home Decor and other stuff" booth at a local Flea, and
4) Trying to stay caught up with it all. Whew.

I'm gradually getting some "me" time back so I will be blogging more frequently.

I continue to be amazed at the top news stories on my Yahoo feed. With everything going on in the world, you would think stories about Jessica Simpson's "ladies" and Kate Plus 8's new car would be somewhere toward the bottom or nonexistent all together.....that is not the case. Don't get me wrong, celebrity news is a guilty pleasure of mine. But, these two stories are less than news worthy. However, I thought Jessica's "Udder" story kept with the old theme of this blog, so I thought I should share. See, Jess is getting married and apparently rumors are spreading that she dislikes her "ladies" and wants them reduced.

As Jessica states in her tweet - "Been getting lots of questions about this alleged breast reduction...not to worry...I LOVE MY BOOBIES!! They aren't going anywhere!"

I don't know about you but I feel as though my day is complete now that I know she is not undergoing reduction mammoplasty. Thanks, Yahoo and Jessica, for making my day complete. LOL!

Aesthetic Thursdays: The Lie that is Lifestyle Lift....

It's been a while since I've talked plastics. I still get a lot of questions from friends, family, acquaintances, etc. that seek my opinion and ask for advice before having procedures. In some cases, they even ask if I will go to appointments with them. I'm truly honored to do so. I mean, I definitely don't want someone I care about to get poor service....which brings me to today's topic: Lifestyle Lift.

I know you have all seen the infomercial for the Lifestyle Lift procedure. Wow! If you fall for this then you are...~~I'm super sorry to say this, but~~ stupid. I mean seriously, look at this before and after!! Please tell me that you really do not believe that this much of a transformation could take place under local anesthetic in less than an hour. Seriously?! No.It.Cannot! It's just not possible. This lady either had her face lipo'd or she lost weight. Plus, she had an extensive full face and neck lift, and I'm willing to bet that she also had her lips plumped, laser rejuvenation, a lower/upper blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), filler injected into her nasolabial folds (mouth parentheses) and it appears that she also had a rhinoplasty (nose job). I'm pretty sure that one would have to inject a lethal dose of topical/local anesthetic to kill the amount of pain that all of these procedures would cause! It's not possible to have this much work done in one hour under local anesthetic. Not possible!

All in all, this does not look like the same woman! Come on Lifestyle Lift people, how do you live with yourselves?!

Moral of this post: people who know my background often ask me for advice on procedures, and sadly I get asked about his particular sales pitch often. This particular company, Lifestyle Lift, is selling a lie. Now, I'm not saying that all plastics will lie about this procedure. Hopefully none of them will, but if they are selling photos illustrating these kinds of results and assuring that it is minimally invasive and performed under local anesthetic in an hours time.......run for the hills peeps. It's a big fat lie.

The Last Supper Debate. Why are we debating?

Per my normal morning routine, I scanned through Yahoo news looking for something interesting to read. Well, I found something...but I'm not sure I would call it interesting. The article is entitled: "Last Supper was a day earlier, scientist claims." You can read it here. But, the basis of this article is that the Last Supper took place well in advance of the Passover festival. The authors state that Easter should be celebrated on April 5th this year. Well, my question is: Why are we spending so much time on analyzing the exact date? Does that make the reality and the significance of this event any different? No! The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is still the single most important event in all of history. Yes, creation was an important event...but if we were created to die and spend eternity in hell, I had just as soon not have been created. With the crucifixion of Jesus, we were given a chance to live in Christ and when we die to not have to experience the agony that will be hell. So, my point is that it really doesn't matter on what exact day we celebrate the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We should celebrate it everyday!! What does matter, is that it happened. And, thank God that He sent His son to die so that we may live.

Instead of spending so much time arguing the facts of the Bible, why don't we spend as much time doing the works of the bible. If only these authors were as passionate about saving the lost and feeding the hungry and giving shelter to the homeless........If only!

Sometimes we get caught up in the minutiae. We just skim over "make disciples of all nations" and get right to pointing fingers and arguing over whose interpretation of the bible is the right interpretation. It's exhausting. And, with that note I'm going to end this post with a new and old book recommendation.

Tomorrow, David Platt's new book Radical T ogether goes on sale. I will be picking up my copy, and I cannot wait! I highly recommend his first book, Radical. And, I'm pretty sure that I will be recommending his second as well.

Updates and Quakes, Oh My!

Well, since the theme of my blog has changed over the past year, I thought it would be a good idea to update my "About Me" page. So, guess what..I did. You can check it out here. The layout is very poor and all over the place, but I am always all over the place and semi-poor at times too. Dang you, shoe sales! LOL! So, it's fitting.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! We had a very exiting one! I had a wedding shower to orchestrate on Saturday afternoon, and Sunday was the Hub's 31st b-day!! So, we celebrated Saturday night just the way I like...quietly and low key...with our bestie couple. Yes, I'm a 70 year old trapped in a 28 year old's body....at least I'm catching up. I used to be 70 in a 16, 18, 21, etc. etc. year old body. I've always been an old soul, and I like it that way.

On Sunday, we had a wonderful morning and evening church service, and in between we ate some kickin' BBQ at one of our favorite spots for the hub's b-day meal. The whole fam came, and it was "get in my belly" good. I wish you all could hear my 2 yr old niece say this! Ah, so cute! So, Sunday was basically low key...well, until around 11 p.m. when I experience the first earthquake of my life! A town about 80 miles away has been experiencing a lot of quakes lately and Sunday night's registered at 4.7. It shook most all of Arkansas and into Missouri. Crazy town! Weirdest feeling in the world...I was like "Is someone under our bed, our house? Is it wind?" Of course the hubs slept right through it....this isn't surprising though if you recall my posts about our lovely sleeping habits here. I had to wake him up, and then he thought I was the one being crazy in my sleep!

So after we finally calmed down from the quake, and I took yet more migraine meds to try and shake my headache we finally fell asleep at 1'ish. Then, our precious little Magnis May starting acting a fool and we were yelling at her to "SHUT UP and DON'T YOU KNOW IT'S 2 A.M.!" In case you were wondering, yes, she knows exactly what we say to her and she sasses us right back :) Finally after about five minutes of exasperated yelping, the hubs decides to see what in the world she's all worked up over. Well, thankful he did! He looked out the window and found 4 men standing in our yard. Then cops showed up and they lingered in our yard for a LONG TIME! And, the dog continued to growl and act like she's some fierce ninja...and, she did this for a LONG TIME! Meanwhile, Remy who was in the other room, never made a sound. Ugh, finally the hubs came back to bed and said the cops cuffed the men and hauled them in. We have no idea what they were doing or why they were in our yard. Strange, Strange night bloggy friends...what started out as the norm night of me in bed early with a migraine ended up with tornado warnings, earthquakes, criminals and me up all night with a migraine! Fun stuff!

Well the dogs are worn out tonight and soaking up the warmth of the heater.

So, fingers crossed that tonight will be normal....or as normal as a night in our house can be!

Yesterday, I picked up a devotional from the "Bargain Book" section at LifeWay, and I must say, so far so good! It's by Max Lucado. Love his work! His new book Out Live Your Life is on my must read list, and I just finished Cure for the Common Life. It was great!

So I just wanted to share what Max shares in the Preface of this book. It's an excerpt from Each Day:

I CHOOSE LOVE…
No occasion justifies hatred; no injustice warrants bitterness. I choose love. Today I will love God and what God loves.

I CHOOSE JOY…

Super Bowl, Puppy Bowl, Fish Fry..Oh My!

Wow...what a busy weekend ladies! Saturday, after some errand running, I helped out with a fish fry benefit for a local, precious little girl who has cancer. Sad situation, but Happy Day because we raised a lot of money for that family!!!

On Sunday, which is my favorite day of the week, we had a great church service and then it was over to mom and dad's for lunch...as it is every Sunday. Love it!

After lunch and my Sunday afternoon nap, I made an appearance at a Superbowl gathering. Not because I wanted to though. Everyone knows that I know zero about football, nor do I care to, but the hubs requested my presence....being that he is so awesome and all, I had to go. And, it was fun. I really enjoyed the commercials. This Doritos one was my absolute fave!! It's wrong on so many levels, but I laughed until I cried!!

I cut out early, right after half time to be exact....I'm not sure why I hung around for that display of awfulness, but I did. I love some BEPs, and I'm telling myself that Fergie had some sort of respiratory issue and that is why she was just terrible!! I normally really like her, but notsomuch last night. Yikes!

And, I'm not even going to fully address my embarrassment over the whole National Anthem debacle.....lets just say that I can't imagine being her and forgetting the lyrics. I'm not her biggest fan, but I still feel bad for her.

I missed the Puppy Bowl, but I fully intend on watching the videos online. I heard it was the cutest thing EVER.

Over the past year, it has really occurred to me that this is where my passion lies. The homeless and disadvantaged have always held a special place in my heart....a heart wrenching space. Recently, and mainly after reading these books..in this order: Crazy Love, Radical and Forgotten God (you can find links to them here), I've really made it my mission to reach out and help in any way I can. Everyday, I try to do something for someone on the streets. And, a couple nights a week some church peeps and I have been going out and ministering to the homeless in their camps. Talk about eye opening....it starts to make you sick when you hear people complain about their homes being too small, not having anything to wear, their food being overcooked...I could go on and on. And, I am as guilty of this sort of mindless complaining than anyone else. It's our way of life, almost. We complain in normal conversation, but to think about actually not having a home, food, clean clothes, a razor to shave your legs, a place to shower....tampons for "girl-time" or deodorant for goodness sakes! Oh, how high-maintenance and unappreciative we have become. This coming from a once self proclaimed shop-o-holic, shoe obsessed, plastic surgery promoting female. Needless to say, I've cleaned out my closets (figuratively and literally), and honestly I have enough clothes and shoes to supply a community of women and girls. Rather disgusting when you think of all of the time and effort that went into shopping and purchasing them all. Now, I can think of so many other more important things to invest my time and money in. I'm not saying that I have lost my love for shopping, but more so that I've gained a love for serving. So much so that I'm working on a new non-profit to do just that.

So, I leave you with a thought......what if you lost your job today or your husband lost his job today, or you both lost your jobs. What would you do? How would you survive? Unless you've invested wisely or have unlimited funds from family or whoever, you are only an arms length away from homelessness. Scary, huh? Some think it will never or could never happen to them, but so did so many of these people we encounter on the streets.

Don't over look them or choose not to see them......you or I could be in that very same situation someday.

Well Lovelies! I hope all is well in your bloggy worlds. All is definitely well in mine! There have been so many new and exciting things happen to me since November, and well...I'll just name a few:

Graduate degree completed....Finally! You may now call me Master. Just kidding, okay not really. :)

Started a new job....and it is fantastic so far! I'm still a non-profit girl; I'm just working in a different environment.

Starting a volunteer based, non-profit charity with some peeps. It's focused on helping the homeless. (More to come as it unfolds.)

Started sewing again...yipee!!

Witnessed 10 inches of snow and made a snowman! I can honestly say that I cannot remember a time that we have gotten that much snow.

Working on a wedding...the big day is drawing near, too!

Working on paintings for a very special 1 year old little girl's birthday.
Reading, Reading, Reading, Reading - I highly recommend: Crazy Love, Forgotten God, Radical, Cure for a Common Life....next in line is The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and Same Kind of Different as Me and Choosing to See.

And, that's all I can think of at the moment...I'm sure there's more. But, those are things that stood out in my mind the most.

I'm really in a good place right now, and I'm thinking of restructuring my blog. Sure the fashion world and cosmetic surgery still interest me, but I feel that I'm really starting to find my place in this world and it definitely doesn't revolve around the latter. It becomes more apparent each and everyday that I am exactly where the Lord wants me to be. I'm still figuring it all out, but praise God for some direction...I have always been a little worried that I would never decide on what I wanted to do when I grew up. LOL!

Refried Beans, High Heelers, Cobblers...just a normal weekend.

Well ladies, I missed Aesthetic Thursday this week..apologies. After December 18th, I will have a life and better blogging etiquette. Promise.

This weekend was great! Some very lovely ladies made the 6 hour trip to visit and shop with me and some fam. It was some much needed F.U.N. We spent Friday night just vegging and catching up, and then Saturday we got our shop on. However, if you remember this post here you remember that I'm on a mission to save. So, I was very good and only bought a couple of tees at XXI and a very necessary pair of Madden Girl pumps at DSW.

I've been super hard on pumps lately...I've lost several heel tips. Ugh, that is so aggravating too. Cobblers (not the delish peach kind) are extinct in my area as well, so my only real solution is to give them away or trash them because I can't stand the "clank-clank" sound they make.

Ok, back to my weekend experience. After purchasing some pumps, we trodded on over to Hobby Lobby...shocker. It was here where I encountered this fashion victim:

Yikes! I love some bows and flowers and feathers in my coif, but this is a bit much. Poor thing, she was dressed pretty cute otherwise.

So, after we shopped 'til we almost dropped....we decided to find a place to land: a great little Mexican dive. Yummy! We chatted away over great food, and then it was off to Target. The night ended great, until I got home and realized I left my phone on the table at our last stop. Bummer. As of last night, it was there and waiting for me to pick it up, but as of today, n0 one knew anything about it. Sketch! Oh, well it's an upgrade for me I guess.

Bringing Sexy back......

So, everyone knows that winter is the best time of year to have plastic surgery. Why? Well, I'm glad you asked. You see, the recovery process for some procedures is a bit inconvenient in warm weather.

A few of those inconveniences are listed below:

Example 1: Post Liposuction Compression

HOT!

This wouldn't be too flattering under a sundress, now would it? But under a nice sweater dress, it smooths and keeps you warm!

Example 2: Laser Resurfacing
Yikes!! Burned skin and 90 degree weather....OUCH! At least during the winter you can just wrap your face in your scarf and your hair like Cher did below.
The recovery is brutal with laser resurfacing, but the results are pretty amazing!

{It almost looks fake...but it's not! Promise!}

Example 3: Post Breast Augmentation Compression

Again, not so hot under a sundress or a tank for that matter. Plus, the uni-boob look is just weird!

Another issue with breast implants in summer.....infection. No swimming or you could look like this:

Well, seeing how I've been too busy to even blog...one of my favorite things...I haven't been able to put a lot of effort into our Halloween costumes this year. So, I'm piling on the leopard print and I've purchased a red wig:That will require some major teasing action to sculpt it into Peg Bundy perfection.....

But, I definitely think it's doable! And the hubs as Al should be pretty easy.

Look out PETA, I think Peg could convince even you to get your fur on!

The great closet clean out begins......

Well Hello lovelies!! What an interesting week it has been. I have been all over the place!
I've been busy cleaning out my closets....figuratively and literally. The figurative is a bit more difficult than the literal, but I'm working on it. As for my actual closet.....

Geez, I need to clean more obviously, because this is just summer-wear....I still have to unpack winterwear from storage! And, I haven't even touched my shoes. Ok, so the literal closet cleaning will continue through the weekend and maybe next week. I'll keep you all updated on my progress. The hope is that I find some girls that could really use the clothes......ok, ok, maybe an entire county of girls that could use the clothes. But nevertheless....I'm hoping to give them away because me and yard sales just don't mix as you may recall from this post here.

One more thing before I go.....Want to know the quickest way to gain 10 lbs???? Mention that you are currently thinner than you have been in a while like I did in this post, and BAM 10 lbs will jump on you like a spider monkey! Promise! Yuck, so I know that some of it is water weight from girl-time e.g. the monthly visitor, but the rest of it is from eating Sour Skittles and Fruit Roll-Ups All.Day.Long for the past two weeks. I now vow that my New Month's Resolution (Sept. 1) will be to get out of my car, out of my office, out off my house and MOVE! Yikes! I can do this. Once upon a time I ran every day....I ran 3 to 5 miles every day. Geez, why didn't I just keep that up!

So, I was super excited when I received a little package in the mail a couple of weeks ago!

I am forever searching for that perfect sunblock that will not break me out or make my powder clump. You know what I mean ladies? Any of you have this problem? Also, my skin is super sensitive to sunscreens, meaning that they tend to burn or irritate my skin. They also break me out which is no fun at all. However, I have been using this sunblock for over a month now, and it is safe to say that I have had zero signs of irritation, burning or breakouts. Plus, it creates the perfect canvas for my mineral makeup each morning!

I highly recommend this product to all of you. As a former skin care consultant for a plastic surgeon, each and every person on this earth needs to wear sunscreen each and every day.
