Most of the Ramona and Beezus cast sandwich in Taylor Lautner as they enjoy a night out bowling during filming in Vancouver earlier this year.

Ramona and Beezus stars Joey King, Selena Gomez, Jason Spevack and Hutch Dano plus Joey’s sister Haley challenged the Eclipse star to a bowling match and staring contests.

Auditorium 17 at the AMC-Loews at The Waterfront had no fancy VIP seats or IMAX screen but it had one thing the other theaters did not on Saturday night: dreamboat actor Taylor Lautner.

His famous abs were hidden under a white T-shirt, paired with jeans, but he produced shrieks of delight nevertheless among roughly 170 moviegoers waiting for the 8 p.m. showing of "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse."

The film's cast has been making surprise appearances around the country as a way to thank moviegoers and Mr. Lautner showed up in Pittsburgh, where he is making a film called "Abduction."

If the fans didn't know Mr. Lautner was coming -- one cited "hearsay," as if she were a courtroom attorney -- they suspected something was up last night once youthful security guards in suits marched in and took positions near the screen on the floor and along the hallway leading into the theater.

Patrons whispered and tapped out text messages, saying they'd heard a surprise might be in store. Then AMC-Loews employee Patrick Fisher introduced Mr. Lautner, called out "Who's ready?" and asked patrons to remain in their seats.

Mr. Lautner bounded to the front of the auditorium as cell phone cameras captured the moment for all eternity ... or Facebook. Fans screamed, whooped and declared their love for the 18-year-old actor who plays werewolf Jacob Black in the wildly popular vampire franchise.

"How are you guys?" he asked, his remarks amplified by a microphone. Smiling and joking with the "awesome" audience, he laughed when someone urged him to "take your shirt off."

Spotting three women in "Twilight"-themed shirts at the end of the third row of seats, he told them "I love the shirts," then corrected himself by saying, "I like the one at the end" -- a reference to its "Jacob's Army" proclamation.

The wearer of that garment, Kara Bussard, of Moon, was celebrating her upcoming 16th birthday with her sister, Erin Dargo, 29, of Brentwood. They'd initially purchased tickets for the 10 p.m. screening, Kara said, but went back to buy seats for the earlier show after hearing a rumor about Mr. Lautner's appearance from a worker at the Aeropostale store in the Waterfront.

When Ms. Dargo yelled, "It's her birthday" and pointed to her sister, Mr. Lautner wished Kara a happy birthday.

"I'm so excited I can't think straight," Kara gushed later. "I could cry."

Mr. Lautner, who has inspired a near cult-like following, begins filming this week on his new film. He is playing a teen who finds his own baby pictures on a missing persons website.

Teen idol Taylor Lautner stars as werewolf Jacob Black in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” a vampire romance film that sees him compete with bloodsucker Edward Cullen for the heart of a high school girl.

In the movie opening on June 30, the rivalry between Jacob and Edward for the love of Bella Swan, the central character in the “Twilight” franchise, culminates in a scene where all three hunker down in a tent.

Ostensibly, they are there to seek refuge from a roving band of vampires that is hunting Bella, but the mountain-top scene also amplifies the love triangle between Edward (Robert Pattinson), Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Jacob.

As it turns out, the cold skin of a vampire is not as good at preventing hypothermia for Bella as Jacob’s warm werewolf blood, a point that the film brings home with one-liners that have left audiences laughing in early screenings.

Lautner’s character is part of a supernatural Wolf Pack in the movie, the third in the franchise. The 18 year-old actor spoke to Reuters about the tent scene, his many shirtless scenes in the film,and his strangest encounter with a “Twilight” fan.

Q: There a lot of ironic moments in “Eclipse.” Was that something that you welcomed?

A: “Yeah, I loved it. Because when you put Edward and Jacob together, it’s bound to have that sarcasm, that tension. But in the tent scene, I think the tent scene sums up the whole entire movie. It’s extremely tense, these guys hate each other. But at the same time, the situation is just pretty funny.”

Q: Some might say you are objectified in these movies because you are so often shirtless. Does that help you understand what it’s like for women actors in films aimed at guy audiences?

A: “I just feel that all of the love going toward the (“Twilight”) cast members is love going toward the characters. I mean with Megan Fox and Jessica Alba, sorry — they’re gorgeous. They just are, and they play many different characters where they’re gorgeous. I’m just lucky enough to be playing Jacob, the guy that doesn’t wear a shirt, and I think all of that love is going toward Jacob, not me personally.”

Q: I hear you had a crazy encounter with a “Twilight” fan at an event in Australia where you were signing autographs. Can you talk about that?

A: “I get down to one (fan) who has the Wolf Pack tattoo right on her forearm. And I was like, ‘Whoa that is so cool. That’s the real tattoo. Is it real?” And she’s like ‘Yeah.’ And she’s like ‘Can you sign it, right here?’ And I was like ‘Yeah, sure of course.’ And I had a feeling about it, I did. And Kristen actually predicted it. Then the next day I got a call from one of my buddies asking if I signed a girl’s arm, and I’m like ‘Yeah, I signed a lot of girls’ arms.’ And he’s like ‘One of them got it tattooed to her arm.’ And I’m like ‘It was the girl with the tattoo.’”

Q: Your family moved from Michigan to the Los Angeles area to help you pursue your acting career. Did you feel any added pressure because of that?

A: “I was like 10 years-old when I moved out. I was just like, ‘Yeah this is going to be fun, my family is moving to California, this is going to be great.’ I didn’t realize all the sacrifices they took, and everything involved in that move. Now, looking back, I’m like ‘Wow, good thing something worked out,’ because if it had bombed that would not have been good.”

As the highly-anticipated Twilight Saga: Eclipse prepares to descend on theaters June 30, stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner get together in L.A. for a frank discussion about the roles they play within the Twilight universe — both on screen and off. They also open up about their Oprah appearance, staying fit, and what it took to film a climactic scene in Eclipse, in which the three characters are forced to wait out a blizzard in incredibly close proximity

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: One scene fans have been dying to see takes place in the tent during the snowstorm. Jacob warms up Bella with his body because Edward is cold-blooded and can’t do it himself.

LAUTNER: The tent scene is probably my favorite, because it’s the first time Edward and Jacob are actually able to connect and understand each other.

How many takes did you go through to get that scene?

LAUTNER: Two days originally to film it, and then a full day of reshoots.

Why?

PATTINSON: [The director] wanted it to be more erotic. Seriously.

STEWART: It’s true. In the book there’s a serious sexual tension. As I’m sleeping, Jacob is staring over my vulnerable body, and he’s naked in this f- - -ing sleeping bag because you heat up faster that way, and Jacob and Edward are leveling with each other.

Taylor, you and Rob have some pretty serious confrontations in this movie.

LAUTNER: Some of those scenes were pretty hard for me. I think we ruined a couple of takes in front of the house and in the tent. It’s just, I don’t know, I have a hard time looking at him…

STEWART: Ha! “I have such a hard time looking at him”!

LAUTNER: [Laughs] I wasn’t finished. He and I were thisclose to each other — we are literally, like, an inch away — and we’re screaming at each other.

STEWART: And about to kiss…

LAUTNER: A couple of moments it felt like that.

PATTINSON: Every single time we had to do a threatening thing to each other — for one thing, you always have your shirt off, and so in the tent scene I literally grabbed your breast. And it’s very difficult to remain in the moment. Also, in that tent scene, I can’t really get over the fact that the word thought sounds like fart.

STEWART: The word thought does not sound like fart.

PATTINSON: It does.

STEWART: Maybe because you are an English person.

PATTINSON: The opening line of that scene is “Can you at least keep your farts to yourself?” I couldn’t quite get over that.
