Tour de Champaign

It must be summer because all of the outdoor events are happening all around the state. I just happened to stumble upon this small bicycle race in Central IL one afternoon. I almost just kept driving but I decided to stop and snap a few photos. I ended up getting some really great photos although I was surprised there were not many spectators that day.

Living Sideways

Sun going down on a Saturday night, feeling the itch to take some photographs in Champaign, IL. I was hanging out with some old and new friends. I ended up convincing my friend Kim to hop in his car and get across town quickly racing the sunset to get in position for a few good photos.

The light was not quite as good as I was wanting but after making the trip over there I was in no mood to give up and not fulfill my itch. So I told him to do his usual sideways dance around some corners. I got lucky and managed to salvage a few good photos from the evening! This photo was quite difficult to get to my final result with such poor light. Be sure to “Toggle Original Photo” to see the photo right out of the camera.

Into The Mix

Dubstep is such an interesting music genre. The music itself is very rhythmical, and something you really feel and want to engage. I decided to take my camera into a popular reoccurring Dubstep event in Champaign, IL and it was a great experience. I have been to the events before but I would never bring in my camera.

I found myself taking photographs from the stage with the Djs as well as right in the middle of the crowd trying to capture the feel of the music. Unfortunately, the lighting was very difficult to work with at this venue but I did manage to snap a few good photos. The previous photo of my friend Danica was from this event.

Party and Power

During my vacation I took a road trip down to Tampa to see my brother and explore the area. I ended up hopping in a car and just driving around for a few hours.. well around 3 just exploring the area around Tampa. I ended up all the way up in Clearwater Beach just driving around watching people. I thought this boat and scooter rental place was a bit funny with the mannequins in and next to the boat. Cheap boat rental prices as well!

Overgrowth

I finally got a chance to take a much needed vacation not to long ago. I decided to fly down to Florida and visit some of my friends from Jacksonville, FL and enjoy the warm weather.

I was walking around the riverside area with my great friend Lauren and came upon this really interesting tree. There was so much growing on it and the shape of how it was growing through the power line was just too interesting to pass up.

For those of you checking out the original image I now attach to each new photo, this is an HDR composite taken from 3 photos. The original image is the raw output from photomatix before I processed the photo.

Into The Music

I was out the other evening with some friends at a local bar that had some Dubstep djs performing, and my friend Danica was enjoying the music quite a lot. I decided to shoot some photos of the crowd and the djs as they were doing their thing. I got a few good photographs from the outing and this was one of my favorites so far.

If you are not familiar with Dubstep, it is highly rhythmical with a very drum and bass feel. I would not call it your average electronic genre, and it has been getting very popular here in the Midwest.

Urban Dwellers

I was finally able to take a vacation a few weeks ago, so I decided to get out of the gloomy and cold Chicago for warm and sunny Jacksonville, FL. I spent a few days there then headed to Tampa. I was exploring a different area of Jacksonville called five points and I must say it was a very nice area. I was especially happy with all of the random art work throughout the area in the form of murals, graffiti, or just stickers like the Urban Dwellers.

The sticker reminded me of Chicago and its insanity of urban dwellers packed together bustling around. As much as I enjoy discovering new places and traveling anytime I can, I still love Chicago.

The Boot

This poor guy, his car got the boot. Its a bit funny though that there was a pay box sign right by his booted vehicle. Chicago parking has gotten more ridiculous this year with the hike in fees that started in January. It can now cost you as much as $5 an hour to park in the loop. What is worse is the city has sold the rights to the parking meters to an outside company. They are ruthless with their parking tickets.

Obviously this guy had several unpaid parking tickets, which are not cheap in Chicago. It’s very unfortunate to see even though he did it to himself. Come on Chicago low the rates on parking already.

The Noodle Man

I was spending the afternoon in China Town in South Chicago with some friends, eating great food and looking in different shops. It was quite the experience and you see some pretty amazing things. China Town is a small culture shock but it is one of the great many things about Chicago overall.

As I was walking through a small row of shops I saw this man making noodles through the window of his shop. I stopped and started snapping a few pictures, and then he noticed me. Usually I would have stopped because I would prefer a more candid photo but he loved the fact that I was photographing him and started doing some amazing tricks while making his noodles. It was nice to see that my picture taking was bringing him some joy.

New Website Design

If you are reading this then you have noticed that I have finished a complete overhaul of my website. This was quite time consuming as I wanted to change the experience a bit with how users interact with my photography.

There are a few new additions to the website such as I now have a blog to write about photography. Also I am now providing for new photos from here on, the ability to view the original un-processed photo to get an idea of how I came about getting to the finished product. TrueForm is also much more iPad / iPhone friendly as well as other mobile users. I have spent a lot of time chasing bugs throughout the website but a few may show up as more users view the new design. So please be patient if you notice problems, or something is not working correctly. It would be of great help to me though if you would report them in the comments of this blog post so that I can fix them!
