The “war on terror” is a self-perpetuating problem with no solution. Worse, it ultimately will destroy America, not from any actions by whatever “enemy” America conjures up, but rather from the actions undertaken by America itself.

It is wishful thinking to believe that the Iraqi military will be able to hold the ruins of Iraqi society together without major U.S. intervention. The United States has assumed the role of Saddam’s Special Republican Guard, waiting to be called in to crush any sign of rebellion or insurrection. It’s a lose-lose situation with only one way out.

The protests in Iran have captured the imagination of Western media, but the re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad should come as no surprise.
