Guisborough rugby match report

Sent in by Peter Griffiths
Guisborough Under-16s travelled to Tynedale at the very last minute and were only able to take a squad of 16 including three rugby league players who had never played under the Union code before.

They lost 43-12 but came away smiling knowing they had given it their all against a club of the highest repute in the North East.

Matty Storey found himself at hooker for the first time in his career and his constant short line-out calls had onlookers in fits. Ben Stephenson was Guisborough's star with two tries; the second a gem from inside his own half combining football and rugby skills. Zac McCluskey, far too busy in defence, handed kicking duties to Jamie Drysdale who landed one conversion.

Nostalgia rocks for former Guisborough teacher turned DJ

FORMER Teesside teacher Rob Plackett is hanging up his microphone after spinning discs at school discos for the past 27 years.

It all started at Guisborough's Laurence Jackson School in the early 1980s when Rob was a head of year. His year group raised the money to buy a twin turntable deck and two speakers, so that dances could be held in the drama studio and school hall.

Guisborough mum tells of birth wound scar

A GUISBOROUGH mum-of-two is calling for answers after giving birth left her scarred for life.

Jessica Pollard claims she was left in agony after a huge blister appeared on her back as she was giving birth by caesarean section to her second child, Riley, last February.

Despite complaining to the James Cook University Hospital, Jessica claims she has never had an explanation about how she got the 10cm wound or any sort of apology.

Several diverse jobs down the line, and thanks to a healthy approach to learning, Moira's working life has come almost full circle. At the service in St Nicholas Church Graham received an extremely warm welcome from a congregation of some 400 parishioners, clergy, representatives of the local community and members of his former parishes.

Guisborough Swimming Club Begin League In Style

The seasons first Moors League swimming gala saw Guisborough take a comprehensive lead over rivals Stokesley, Eston and Bedale. Overall Guisborough won by 24 points and many swimmers swam new personal best times. Chief coach Andrew Young is now hopeful that the squad can continue with it's great performance in the next gala at Bedale. Where we will come up against Northallerton and Saltburn & Marske.
The swimming club is entering its 40th year, and has not won the league since the late 1980's. Winning the moors league would be a great way of celebrating our 40th anniversary in our newly refurbished pool.

A WOMAN who watched the retired Cleveland policeman who sexually abused her as a child jailed for 10 years said today: "He can go and rot."

She spoke as Joseph Sample, 62, started his sentence for a catalogue of terrible sex crimes dating back more than two decades.

Teesside Crown Court heard yesterday how the former policeman and soldier was allowed to continue to rape and molest after the authorities dismissed a second victim's complaints.

JUSTICE chiefs said a court had no choice in the sentence it gave four children in connection with an allotment animal slaughter.

Last week the Gazette reported how four youngsters aged 12 and 13 appeared at Teesside Youth Court where they admitted destroying or damaging property after geese, ducks, chickens, ferrets and goats were bludgeoned to death on Springfield allotments in Rectory Lane, Guisborough.
