The attack happened as the girl walked along the dimly lit "black path" public footpath in the Eston area at around 8.30pm on Friday, January 23. The attack left a Jack Russell called Bob with such serious injuries that he required a leg amputation. After receiving information from the public, Cleveland Police officers now believe the attacking dog was a pit bull terrier and not a Bull Mastiff or Boxer as first thought, pictured Bob with owner William. The attack happened as Bob's owner William Cole, 63, of Normanby, was walking his dog between 10am and 10.30am on Wednesday, January 14, at the base of the Eston Hills near the NHS Centre.
