Warning over moving ambulance control operations

MOVING all ambulance control operations to Tyneside would pose huge risks, says a leading Teesside councillor.

The warning came from Middlesbrough councillor Barry Coppinger after the Cleveland Emergency Planning Committee considered a report setting out concerns over the effectiveness of ambulance services if the Teesside control room was closed.

The North East Ambulance NHS Trust is considering a proposal which will see the Teesside control room closing and a second control room opening on Tyneside.

A FORMER soldier who faked a robbery to help a young mum struggling with drug debts walked free from court.

Family friend Anthony Bingham, 45, said he dressed in a camouflage jacket and a black woolly hat to snatch a bag of cash from the door-to-door collector on a street in Hemlington, Middlesbrough.

The weeping woman later reported the July 23 “mugging” to police, but they had divided up the £440 money, said prosecutor Jolyon Perks.

Eight workers, some pictured, from North Eastern Tyre and Exhausts took a day out from their routine to help maintain and repaint the Unicorn Centre for disabled riders in Hemlington.

Ian Darcy, of North Eastern Tyres, said: “We have been long-time supporters of the Unicorn Centre. I have seen the work they do at close hand for a number of years. So when we heard the centre was in need of a spring clean, we were only too glad to help.

“Staff from the sites were happy to put down their tools for the day and spend some time with a paint brush or brooms in their hand instead.
