The Cherokee Nation’s economic impact in northeast Oklahoma tops $1 billion, according to a newly-released report. The Tulsa Metro Chamber joined the Cherokee Nation at a Tulsa press conference to announce the report’s findings.

The Cherokee Nation has an impact of more than $1.06 billion, provides $401 million in salary and supports nearly 14,000 Cherokee and non-Cherokee jobs, according to the report. The Cherokee Nation employs 9,000 people directly. The report showed the impact the Cherokee Nation has on its 14-county jurisdiction, which covers the northeast corner of Oklahoma, including Tulsa County.

Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Bill John Baker said: “While we knew all along the impact was substantial, we were proud to see the significant impact our tribal and business operations have on the state of Oklahoma.”

Tulsa Metro Chamber President and CEO Mike Neal stated: “The Cherokee Nation is making a tremendous impact on our regional economy in all aspects and has plans to continue being a catalyst for economic development. This report released by the Cherokee Nation is further evidence of their dedication to economic development, and we are pleased to take part in announcing this important information.”
