Those same kids who walk through the door end up working together to tackle the issues that led them to Oasis in the first place. Jennifer’s work in philanthropy began in 1997 when her in-laws, Susan and Warren Buffett, placed Jennifer and Peter in charge of a charitable fund. Her early work was focused primarily on social services in Wisconsin. During this time, Jennifer helped launch the Wisconsin Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Association to advance practice and policy around healthy social and emotional development for young children. We talked about the week long Naked without us Fashion & Rock Festival here in Nashville, TN April 19th-24. The kick off event is in the new reverb room at the Hard Rock Cafe and none other than Rob Bironas himself, kicker for the Tennessee Titans, will be there to help kick things off!

A portion of the proceeds from Naked without us benefit Rob's new charity, The Rob Bironas fund. He came along for the interview to explain his vision of introducing music to children, tell us about the new Music Mobile, how he has partnered with the Nashville Symphony, and Rob put the word out that he is on the hunt for a van! Elizabeth Broyhill from Monkees of Nashville, who is also the chairperson of the Rob Bironas fund, and Marcia Masulla Marketing and Fashion director for Naked without us also came along for the interview.

Elizabeth explained what a tremendous help the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee was for getting the fund together. She also shared her excitement of an upcoming shopping trip that would make her and everyone else who participates eligible for an $800 shopping package prize!

Marcia went into great detail about all the bands playing the festival like Jeff the Brotherhood, Heypenny, De Novo Dahl, and many more. Plus the different daytime events like The Boutique Crawl, The free interactive panels at Belmont, The Marketplace event in the Gulch, and she even teased us about the new super-group The Honeymoon Thrillers featuring members of Luna Halo, Mean Tamborines, and (at least on their record playing bass) Jared from Kings of Leon!

The Ride:Well Tour (R:WT) is a cross-country cycling campaign to provide Blood:Water Mission (B:WM) supporters an epic opportunity to help bring clean blood and water initiatives to Africa while growing in understanding of themselves, their faith, and their role in a global society. Our Kids Soup Sunday Feb 28th 2010

This week on Tuned In my guests are from the non profit organization Our Kids.

Since 1987 Our Kids has offered help, hope, and healing for children and their families struggling with sexual abuse.

The Our Kids mission is to provide expert medical and crisis counseling services for children, when there are allegations or concerns of child sexual abuse, to increase community awareness, participate in research, and offer education and training about child maltreatment.

We talked with a heavy heart about Our Kids and their important part in our community. We also discussed their big fundraiser for 2010, the Allstate Our Kids Soup Sunday presented by Ford Motor Company. This year Soup Sunday is returning to LP Field club level west on Sunday February 28th. From 11am-2pm 50 local restaurants will compete for the title of favorite soup. There is always lots of great food, family entertainment, and all for a good cause. Last year’s event raised over $50,000 for Our Kids. Tennessee State Museum

This week on Tuned In we talk about Civil Rights. The Tennessee State Museum has opened an exhibit entitled, We Shall Not Be Moved. The 50th Anniversary of Tennessee’s Civil Rights Sit-Ins. I had the chance to speak with the curator of the exhibit, Graham Perry, and Dr. Allen Cason, who took part in the Sit-ins over 50 years ago!

We also recorded an additional interview which I will post here soon. In part two, Dr. Cason shared his experiences in greater detail. Including some of the tough times he encountered after being sent to prison. Graham Perry also asked Dr. Cason many interesting and historical questions in the second part of our interview.

Thanks to the Tennessee State Musuem and to Mary Skinner for helping set up this interview. The exhibit is on display until May 16th, 2010. In the museums changing galleries Located at Fifth and Deaderick Streets in downtown Nashville. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday admission is always free to the Tennessee State Museum.

So my first post here was after having the Arthritis foundation talk about their Bone Bash event at the Cannery Ballroom. We have been airing new episodes each week since then. Yesterday morning I aired a program with Christopher Armour. He is President of Trees Nashville. We talked about why Trees are important and the upcoming Tree planting this Saturday with the Nashville Tree Foundation.

Previously I spoke with the President of Artrageous 22. A benefit for Nashville Cares, recently held here in Middle Tennessee. They have done it for the past 22 years and will continue to host this event for many years to come. The Show!

So I have this radio show. And you're probably saying who are you. First let me say, it's really weird to blog. I talk and write for a living, so this writing in the void of cyberspace it's weird, kinda of like reading a bed time story to just the pillow.

Anyway, my name is Jayne Rogovin and I've lived in Nashville for almost twenty years. I ended up here like a lot of people did. Kind of thought this was going to pit a pit stop on life's road, but somehow ended up in the black hole, that time warp continuum thing and I'm still here. Well I did leave briefly in the 90's to work for NBC News in Dallas Ft Worth, but I saw the light and moved back. That's a whole "nother story.

Any how, I'm an ex-journalist (well not quite ex) who loves Middle Tennessee. And I am honored to be hosting a program for one of the best radio stations in the country.
The purpose of Tuned-In is to spotlight the policy makers and taste makers, news makers and issues of our community. Some topics don't have sexy titles, but it doesn't mean they aren't important. There are a lot of everyday people in this town that do amazing things. And there are a lot of everyday issues that are very very important.

Executive Director of the Harpeth River Watershed Association

I knew right away who I wanted for my first guest, and what I wanted to talk about.
Dorie Bolze is this force of nature. She's the Executive Director of the Harpeth River Watershed Association. The organization helps protects and restore the Harpeth River and its surrounding Watershed (land area). She just didn't jump on the green band wagon. Dorie has literally, lobbied, begged, borrowed and done just about everything that is legally possible to raise awareness about this treasure and the importance to our area.

People don't think about the Harpeth, and it's tiny streams and tributaries, (it feeds into the The Cumberland and eventually the mighty Mississippi) until it's almost too late and we have problems like we did last year...i.e. water restrictions, low levels, dying fish etc. Dorie isn't some high profile celeb on a mission to save the world, but it's the Dorie's of the world that work tirelessly for not a lot of money to make our piece of the world a better place to live.
