Getting back precious metals from old mobile phones. That’s just one of the benefits of putting an end to “mobile phone hoarding”. One tonne of mobile phone circuit boards can yield the same amount of precious metals as 110 tonnes of gold ore, 123 tonnes of silver bearing ore and 11 tonnes of copper sulphide ore.

After spending 6 months last year in Telstra’s Industry Analyst Relations Team (in Corporate Strategy) I got taste for how experts view trends in the telecommunications. I am impressed with the new Nokia E72, the latest environmentally-responsible phone we have lauched with Nokia into the Enterprise market.

Myths and misconceptions are one of the biggest challenges I personally think is a barrier to enhancing environmental performance across the globe. Global air travel restrictions in the past week highlights how dependent we have become on air travel to attend meetings and events. Virtual summits and meetings come into their own during times of disaster, but how long before they really take off?

Women make 70% of purchasing decisions that determine household carbon footprint. Women answering opinion polls consistently out-score men in supporting serious action on the environment by governments, business and individuals. Women bring incredible energy and social networking skills to addressing society’s great challenges. And women are significantly more likely than men - 56% to 46% more - to expect the highest environmental and climate performance from businesses, according to a recent national poll by AMR Interactive.
