Sheba arrived at Turpentine Creek in the back of a pick-up truck. The couple that currently owned her was moving and wanted to ensure the best care for Sheba so they decided to bring her to the refuge. When she came to the refuge, Sheba was in very good health, but this was not always the case. The current owners had rescued Sheba 2 years previously from the woman's niece. While living with the niece, Sheba was terribly mistreated. She was harassed, had pellet guns shot at her and was starving to death. Every bone in her body was visible; and she was incredibly malnourished and quite aggressive. The husband said he didn't want a cougar as a pet, but he couldn't just let her suffer and die. He took good care of her until her arrival at the Refuge.
