Y’all know that LizardToes makes some of my favorite stitch markers. (Ok, well, ALL of my favorite stitchmarkers) But did you know she also dyes some kick ass yarn? Behold.

Named after one of her little pooches, this yarn is 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon and 80% Merino Wool. Just enough Cashmere to make it some of the softest damn yarn I’ve ever felt.

I mean seriously. I’m wearing it around my neck. Y’all know that when I wear yarn around my neck it means serious bidness.

It also means that it’s very likely to be put on the swift next to be knit up. I’m thinking that these will make a nice pair of Cotty socks.

After fondling Discoknits’ cashmere blend Cottys, I haven’t been able to stop contemplating a pair of my own. I was going to join the KaL on Ravelry to make them out of Socks that Rock, but I think I’ll do the other pattern option instead and make my Cottys from this.

A wise choice don’t you think? This colorway is called “Swimming Lessons” and she’s got it in stock on her website now.

Are y’all sure that cashmere yarn around the neck isn’t considered business casual?

My knitting mojo has decreased dramatically in the past 2 weeks. I’ve been obsessed with the Sookie Stackhouse novels. Just this weekend I read 3 of them in short order. I am trying hard to get the Ripple sock done.

Put the damn book down and finish my sock.

I tink he’s gelus dat mawm did mine first.

The pattern is written, it just needs to be knit. If there are any cuff down sock knitters out there that are up for a challenge (the heel is a bit different than you’re used to) please speak up and let me know if you’d like to test knit it.

In other sock news, the Zauberball socks are in from the car and the second sock is ready to be bound off and their heels added.

This is my first pair of socks with an afterthought heel and I’m pondering how I want to tackle it. I’m actually considering making 2 more toes and kitchenering them into place. Crazy, yes, but they’d match the toes as far as decreases go. We’ll see.

You know, Facebook is like a muse. All shiny and pretty on the outside. Luring you in with the possibility of reconnecting with old friends, and reaching out to new ones. But then it sucks you in and shows you it’s evil side. I’ve been lured into Mafia Wars and I’m loving every second of it. If you play, please be sure to join my mafia.

Momma. Da yarnz.

Oh right. It’s Friday. Thanks, Calvin. Today’s yarn is some beautiful Cherry Tree Hill Super Sport I won from a Knitmore Girls Podcast contest. I had posted some suggestions in a thread on their Ravelry group and got drawn for a prize.

I love when that happens. I had originally won a signed copy of The Friday Night Knitting Club. Lucky me already has one, so I offered to turn it back into the prize pool for someone else to win. Jasmine was so generous and insisted I still get something, so she offered up this yarn from her very own stash.

This color is “Indian Summer”. I used to own this very colorway in the Super Sock weight, but I destashed it last summer. Welcoming it back into the stash was easy. I love Cherry Tree Hill.

The weight on this yarn feels like Socks that Rock Mediumweight to me. This might be a good yarn to use for another pair of Rogue Roses. I did love that pattern. Hmm…

Now, if you’ll pardon me, I have some Independence Day loot to find by looting some gangsters.

If you’ve been keeping an eye on my sidebar there or my Ravelry projects, then you know I’ve been working on a sock pattern inspired by & named for Calvin & Ripple. The Calvin Sock is finished.

I love this sock! The slip stitch pattern I came up with blends the colors in the handpainted yarn perfectly. No pooling here! But since this pair is intended to be two different socks, knit in the same yarn, I’m going to need a test knitter. Or two.

If you’re willing, quick, and have a narrow foot (between 7.5 and 8 inches in circumference – right behind the ball of your foot – not the widest part!) or if you have a wider foot (between 9 and 10 inches in circumference) please let me know. The test knitter would only have to knit the one sock, toe-up, past the heel turn (start the cuff pattern) before reporting back to me.

It will help if you know you can get a gauge of 8spi with fingering weight yarn. Apply in the comments!

Saturday was the 2009 Charlotte Can’t Stop the Serenity event. It was Browncoat heaven. (Yes, Jane. I know. I need to date a geek. I can’t hide that side of me much longer at this rate.) This year’s event was not only a fundraiser for Joss Whedon’s favorite cause, Equality Now, but Charlotte had it’s own Big Damn Hero, and that was my friend, Heather (aka Tvini). Her charity of choice is Donor’s Choose. I have no idea how much money was raised, but there was a decent turn out at the event. God knows there were plenty of prizes to be had! The first one was for the Costume Contest. This brilliant Browncoat got second place. And she was robbed.

The girl dresses up as a Jayne Hat and doesn’t win? Some guy that dressed up as Mal won. Apparently his coat and patches were really impressive. Feh. It wasn’t as creative as this girl’s but hey, I wasn’t a judge. I did win some stuff in the drawings though!

I think I have a brother-in-law that might appreciate that bottle for his geek collection. You’ll see I’ve already put the Chinese silk bag to work as a yarn holder. What? Wouldn’t you?
