Introducing The Gallery of Half Eaten Food: Winter Feast Edition

2016-06-16T22:30:00.000+10:00

I could never be a food blogger.

There is one very simple reason for this. I love food.

Now most people would think this was a necessary trait in someone that blogs about food, They're wrong. It's actually not necessary. In fact, with some of the food blogs that I've read, the writers have a real contempt for food. They spend so much of their time photographing it and writing about it I think they run out of the energy required to really love it.

I do not share this fatal flaw. My improvement opportunity is that I love food so much, the absolutely last thing I am thinking about when faced with a fresh plate, juices juicing, aromas a roaming, is sharing. I just have to have at it as fast as humanly possible.

As such, my foodie pics are a little unique, and so, without further ado, I introduce the introductory issue:

First Glimpse

2016-06-15T23:30:00.000+10:00

After briefly settling into our hostel, we were invited to whiskey by a couple of the Smoosh's mates in which we are gladly partaking. Our route leads us down past the locale of the Winter Feast, the live band is just introducing it's last tune for the evening. Standing on a nearby park bench I peek over the barriers, it's enormous and inviting with food stalls and fire.

I can't wait.

Travelling with Smoosh

2016-06-15T17:00:00.000+10:00

This is the first time I'm traveling with my boyfriend. I'm utterly bat-shit crazy about him. We're totally in that honeymoon-like relationship stage where we can't be trusted not to be nauseating in public. We are PDA Central. If it were me, I would not want to be around us. Sorry, not sorry.

The "first holiday together" is supposed to be that make or break relationship test. To see if you can handle each other at your most tired, cranky, been travelling all day selves. It's almost guaranteed that you will crack it at each other at some point setting you a template for every single fight for the rest of your lives, IF you survive it.

Here's to hoping we do. (Because I really like this one.)

I will try to keep the smooshiness to a minimum. Hopefully we won't murder each other.

Today I was in the same room as Stephen Fry. Yes, that was as fucking brilliant as it sounds. I have no words.

I was planning on going to Melbourne. I still am. Just not this week. Due to unforeseen circumstances I've had to cancel the first half of my trip. Instead I've made a very overdue pilgrimage to visit my family in Forster.

For those of you not familiar, Forster is between 2 1/2 and 6 hours drive north of Sydney. This is dependent on if you are travelling (probably not legally) with my li'l' bro' or with Captain Obvious who is the only person I know that doesn't beat his postcards home. Apparently (according to Google maps) it should take a normal human 3 1/2 hours to do the drive. Almost the entirety of my Mum's side of the family lives up here. Here, where there's always a spare bed for me. Here, where I'm always welcome. Here, is my second home.

I've been up for a couple of days now, read two books and started a third already, walked the dogs, spotted wildlife, and that perpetual knot in my shoulders has loosened itself into a bow. I've just finished lunch with my Grandfather, my tea is cooling and will be ready to drink shortly. We had prawns. It's funny how a simple sensation can really epitomise a place or a memory. Today it was my prawn sanga. They'd been cooked in the water from the river and with a single mouthful I really truly felt like I was finally here in Forster.
