Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th of January, 2012 - That is the day (evening) we sit down to record the "new" DungeonPlace podcast.

I will turn around and have the episode released by the end of this weekend. So those of you who have asked and those of you who waited? You will have new DungeonPlace goodness in mere days!

The format will be more familiar than different. I've thought up new features I hope you'll enjoy.

One new thing will depend on you! We'll be using Google Hangouts. Soon you will not only be able to *watch* DungeonPlace, you will be able to participate. Want to be part of the panel? Easy! I'll release the information soon.

I will also see start shooting video (which we'll host on Vimeo and YouTube (depending on content)) for special content/event footage. We've got many a twisted mind at our disposal, soon you'll watch what those minds create.

The #1 Rule in Scene Etiquette

It's quite simple.

Don't interrupt any Scene, for any reason, any time unless:

You're invited to take part in said Scene
You're someone with the authority to do so (DM, Host, etc.) and you have a damn good reason (e.g. safety!)
There is an emergency and none of the above are available

Being drunk, stupid or overwhelmed by the "mating urge" doesn't count.

2nd, 3rd start breaking it in... Careful not to crack an eye out.

What is happening here?

Let's look around, shall we?

We've got early Presidential candidates talking to "god".
In Chicago, the Park Hyatt Chicago hotel is aiming heat lamps at striking workers (amid an already swealtering heat wave!)
Politicians in Congress and the House are lying through both sides of their mouths about the debt ceiling in order to save their own asses in 2012.
And once again, it looks like the best hope for the near future fucks the Middle Class.
Oh, and a doomsday comet is on its way to kill us all.

Is there a point to getting out of bed anymore?

Sure.

This crap has been happening since the begining of recorded history. Doomsayers, prophets, politicians, warmongers and bullies shout loud and rattle swords in hopes of gaining attention. The reality is that they are largely ignored by the daily movements of life and forgotten by historians.

So, carry on. There is nothing to see here.

Call your Senators and Congressmen if what they're doing bothers you. Call them a LOT (they really hate that)! Send them email daily, twice daily. Tell Michele Bachman that god talks to you too, and he says his robe is chaffing or he doesn't like his toothpaste or he's got a bone in his leg.

Or better yet, tell her He says He thinks LGBT folks are just fine the way He made them and to lay the fuck off (and she really should get her "husband" laid -- or at least married to a decent partner).

Just some thoughts.

Hooks

Hello,

It's Tuesday - July somethingth and I'm back from Denver...Thunder In The Mountains.

I'll save talking about the experience as a whole for another time and concentrate on one specific event.

If you ever get a chance to do a Hook Pull, take it! Yeah, it sounds scary, but it's those things that scare us most that offer the greatest reward. This was my second pull. I'd done one with a friend...we each put 8 ga. hooks in our backs and went to town. This was an experience with Jouvarti, Juju_Bees and about 100 other people...all with drums, shaman, 8 ga. hooks in our chests, hanging off of scaffolding and dancing in circles, being attacked by flogger handles, madmen with elephant hooks in their chests and Hitachi's gone wild!

Emotions also pitch about the scale. I wept like a child and laughed maniacally. I screamed in pain and joy and just screamed for the pure hell of it. I was furious at times and rampantly turned on at others. Blood flowed down my chest and I wiped it on my forehead, even drew a smiley face. I reached out to Jouvarti and drew a line of blood down her forehead. We danced with strangers, danced alone, the three of us sat together and just pulled...lost to an energy not even able to be captured by words. Pain, for me, was a conduit to other places and a release for things long buried.

This will take some time to fully process, so I'm sure it will be revisited. There is also a suspension in my future; that's just the next logical step. But I had to share what I had and encourage you.

Do it. Take the chance. It is worth it in every way.

Goodbye Facebook, you suck!

I have deleted my Facebook account and will not be getting another one. Why? Well, Google+ is the main reason, but the last straw?

Getting ready to delete the account I went in to my "account settings" and saw that someone had accessed my account on June 9th from New Jersey at 8:30am EST? What's more, the report showed every OS and browser under the sun on that access (WTF?). Thinking it may just be some fluke from a mobile access, I logged in using my Android. Nope! (It evidently doesn't report those at all...odd.) When I refreshed the entry from the 9th was gone.

Fluke or not, that's just some nasty, lazy security.

Facebook? You suck!

Realizations and Recovery

Most of my adult life has revolved around CBT.

Not the one you're thinking of (if you're kinky) - I'm talking about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It has allowed me (with the help of a good Doc. and meds) to go from a wildly out of control Bipolar Type 1 to a man in remission for the last several years (although that remission has been seriously tested this last year).

I accept being Bipolar. I got my first name on the Internet from writing about my illness and connecting with others who were trying to understand it. It's been a factor in three divorces. When I stopped fighting it and began to harness it, work with it, everything fell into place -- I wasn't broken anymore. I was simply - me.

Unfortunately, it's just never quite that easy, is it?

We're multi-faceted beings in long, elliptical orbits and sometimes it isn't until we get close to the sun that something else becomes visible.

For the last couple of years I have wondered at something gnawing at me. It's been there longer, probably my whole life, but it wasn't until my mind began to quiet that I could actually feel it. There wasn't even a full awareness of it at first...just an oily sense of something else. This last year I've homed in on it, keeping quiet until recently; I don't want something else. I don't need another thing...

...but I've got one. Goddamit.

This is one I'm not going to be so vocal about simply because I don't need to be. It won't kill me, it's not contagious, it's not a danger to others and it doesn't alter who I am. Treating it may make a difference in a lot of ways, but only to me, really. Knowing what's there and how it works on me answers many, many questions and makes me sad in some ways and I am sorry to those that I inadvertently inflicted with my own faults.

Ah well...this is how I was made. I know more and with that knowledge I must grow stronger, right?

Stand up, take a step and continue.

Some questions from a new submissive - Negotiation

An ongoing conversation - "New submissive seeks advice from SweetGeekGoddess".

This is a continuation from the Negotiation series, asking:

What are some basic questions a new submissive should ask a Dom during negotiation?

Let's say this is for a Scene and he's provided references...

Advise her to start with "What he *can't* do" then negotiate for what he can. This way the limits of the scene should be well defined...or not, depending upon her wishes.
Is the scene SSC or RACK? (She should know and understand the differences).
Safe words and rest words - well established and clearly understood, if desired.
Can she bring someone to observe? (If desired)
Sex, sexual contact, safe sex - yes/no, none? Define.
Get his phone number, name and address, give it to someone she trusts.

There are some recommendations.

The Stars

When I was a kid, about 10 or so, my dad bought me a telescope. I was a hopeless adict of the Cosmos (I even had the Carl Sagan fan club card) and could not get enough of what lay beyond the fragile planet we lived on. With the telescope I was given a cardboard, dial star-chart that glowed in the dark. It was my cypher to all things wonderful.

One very cold winter's evening (I think) I stood in the back yard keying into The Great Square, particularly it's sweeping arm. Somewhere in there was what looked like a double star. One of those "stars" was really the Andromeda galaxy. After about an hour of "hunt and chase" (you'd be amazed how fast things move across the sky in relation to a tiny piece of glass and mirror), I got the object in my scope.

It looked like two tiny balls of light surrounded by glowing fuzz, nothing like the pictures of a swirling mass! I was a little disappointed. Then the voice of St. Carl came to me through the night.

"Billions and billions of stars, 2.5 million light years away! You are looking at something now, as it existed before man was even an idea."

I kept looking at the fuzzy balls of light; then the logic of St. Carl exploded in my young brain and I began to cry.

This light I was looking at was over 2 million years old! I could hardly comprehend that!

I had a flashlight, I turned it on and watched the beam spot onto the fence some thirty feet away. It was instant. I wondered how far away it would have to be before I would notice a time-lag. I looked up in the sky and realized that almost everything I was looking at could have stopped existing years ago and we would never know until that speed of light allowed some horrible knowledge to dawn on us! I remembered that if the Sun were to explode, right now, it would take just over 8 minutes before we would even have a clue.

I was crying because I realized I was nothing.

I meant nothing.

I was irrelevant under the march of giants. In a million years everything I was and everything I did would be forgotten no matter how great or diabolical I became during my spec of a life.

I lost any beleif I had in God.

At 10, I was re-shaped in an instant.

I lay on the grass, staring at the stars, seeing the infinite distances between those points of light until the cold drove me inside.

Outlining the Negotiation Process

**Before you begin! - Touch and proximity.

**There is a difference between "May I Hug you" and "May I Touch you".
**If someone crosses a boundary you are not comfortable with during negotiation, TELL THEM. Once may be a mistake. If they do it again? End it.
**Negotiation is fluid - there is no 1 way to do it. There are, however, Wrong ways to negotiate.
**Roll with it, relax, get to know who you're talking to.
**Active Listening is KEY!

Lists and Compromise
- Negotiation is about making lists and finding compromise
- What is the nature of the negotiation?
  - Long-term
  - Short-term
  - Scene, etc **(Formal, Informal, 10-second, 3-month, Seduction, Dirty)
- Find the Wants (Theirs), present the Wants (Yours), compare the Wants
- **Why aren't you saying "Desires?" (Talk about Lee's "You know what would be hot?" vs. "I want to do..." Dirty Talk/Action)
- Make the List
- Compromise - you won't get everything you want...deal with it. **(This is not just YOUR scene)
Voice and Discovery
- Remind all parties that this is the time Everyone Has A Voice! USE IT.
- **It is often forgotten (by slaves, submissives, Doms, Masters, etc. That all RELEVANT parties involved in the negotiation have equal voice. Encourage a dialog!!)
  - **Who is Irrelevant? If two "Dominants" are negotiation a Scene for one (or more) of their "submissives", that sub is irrelevant to the negotiation if the Dom has rights to negotiate for is/her "property".
  - Discuss "Property", Relationships and appropriate approach when beginning Negotiations.
- Reassure
- Use the verbal clues to discover what you're not being told.
  - Use the non-verbal clues to REALLY discover what you want to know.
- Use a notebook, write things down
- Ask specific questions, do not be shy! **(Asking for References? Both sides)
- Define Hard and Soft Limits **(Concentrate on "Can", not "Can't").
- Reassure
Time
- Not everything will happen all at once - be patient **(Again, determine what's Fantasy and what's a Want)
  - **How to walk away from someone's fantasy (Wasting your time)
- The Dom/Master should set the pace, this is where Control begins
- Often, using time and pace can weed out troublesome play partners
The Close
- Agreements - Be courteous, ask. **(It's like closing a sale, a deal, a kiss)
  - The Word - Simple and informal
  - The Contract - Complex and binding **(But is it legal?)

A killer contract will clarify what is expected of both sides and it can also help you to communicate your approach to doing business. The Podcast Equipment List...

What do I use to record podcasts?

Here's the basic kit.

Sony PCM-M10 (This is the workhorse, it's an awesome little unit with incredible battery life)

The old standby - Zoom H2 (This is my backup).

A basic microphone (go for the best quality you can manage, but mine is very basic)

Behringer Xeni Mixer - This is a great little mixer, probably one of the best for podcasters (drawback? No usb - that'll cost ya!).

Or just get a mixer with USB.

Headphones! AKG K-240s, Awesome! Best headphones for the money, used in many recording studios worldwide!)

Cables - I like these because they're soft and flexable.

Patch Cables - Can't have enough of these. You'll need them to hook the recorders up to your mixer...but you're kinda on your own for the type you'll need.

Universal Shock-mount Mic Clip - It's rubber, universal, has a shock mount to isolate the microphone. Excellent for the money.

Pop filter - You need at least one of these, preferrably one for each mic.

You'll need at least one Mic Stand. Here's a good one.

If you're going portable (with one of the small recorders) use this! The Gorillapod.

For editing software I use Adobe Audition 3.0 - I use the effects, the multi-track options, etc. There are other options, but the best free option is Audacity.

There is also some magic involved...a free program provided by The Conversation Network called The Levelator.
