Ricardo Fernández Ortega is a prominent Mexican surrealist painter, known for seamlessly fusing 17th-century classical artistic techniques with modern, dream-like subjects.

Ben Goossens was born in Liezele, Belgium and attended the St Lucas Art School in Brussels where he studied Illustration and Photography.

After four years in Art School, illustration and photography became his obsession.

He worked in advertising for 32 years, mostly as an Art Director, where he gained 15 years of Photoshop experience.

His source of inspiration in advertising came from surrealist paintings and still does in his work now.

His hobby and passion now is creating ‘experimental / surreal photomontages’, these images are very seamless yet painterly dreamscapes.

With each shooting he tries to create his own personal image, either simple or complex the idea behind his images is more important than the technique.

He believes that the work he makes now is a logical follow-up to what he did professionally.

Frequently dubbed the "René Magritte" or "Salvador Dalí" of photography, his distinct style blends dreamscape aesthetics with painterly compositions.

Goossens’s images have received awards in several prestigious international photography competitions.

His work has also been widely published, including an in-depth 10 page exposition in the March 2007 edition of Photo Art International.

👉 - I live in Willebroek, Belgium. After Art School, where photography was one of the sections, I worked 35 years as an Art Director in advertising and allready 15 years with Photoshop, to realize the ideas.

Now my hobby and passion is creating experimental/surealistic photomontages.

I sent those images to International Experimental Photo contests with success.

With differents shootings I try to ceated my own personal image.

What I make now, is a logic follow-up from what I did professionaly.

Son of a popular Siberian artist Valery Oktyabr / Валерий Октябрь, Денис Октябрь was born in a Russian city Novoaltaisk to continue the family artistic tradition.

In 1992 Denis finished Artists School and in 1997 graduated Artistic College of Novoaltaisk.

Oktyabr paints portraits, landscapes, genre pictures.

In his paintings Oktyabr tries to abstract his mind and brush from shapes and stereotypes to reflect feelings, emotions and to illustrate the sacred process of perception and meditation.

Shapes and colors of his paintings are perfect instruments to explore and embody ideas and sensations.

Looking at his pictures one feels that there is a vision of the way things are intended to be, but never are.

Roman Romanov is a contemporary Russian realist painter known primarily for his romantic landscape oil paintings.

Born in 1966 in Kemerovo, Siberia.

Graduated from the Kazan Art College in the Republic of Tatarstán, and later completed a higher technical education.

Organized his first exhibition while serving in the military.

He initially worked as an industrial and automotive designer before dedicating himself entirely to professional painting in the year 2000.

Has exhibited his work internationally, including the "Romantique Russe" exhibition in Orléans, France.

Romanov's work is characterized by its light, mood-evoking atmosphere, often focusing on changing seasons and emotional weather states:

Ivan Aivazovsky | Romantic painter

Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky / Ива́н Константи́нович Айвазо́вский (1817-1900) became the most prolific Russian painter of his time.

Early in his career, he was elected a member of five Academies of Fine Arts, including those of St. Petersburg (his Alma Mater) Rome, Florence, Stuttgart and Amsterdam.

He was an Academician at 27 and Professor of Marine Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, at the age of 30.

His works were highly appreciated by J. M. W. Turner, a leading British landscape and marine painter, when they met in Rome, in 1842.

The art of the young marine painter Aivazovsky inspired Turner to devote a poem to him. Aivazovsky left over 6,000 works at his death in 1900.

The funds earned during his successful career as an artist enabled him to open an art school and gallery in his hometown of Feodosiya.

As of 2006, Aivazovsky's works have been auctioned for as much as $3,200,000, and his international reputation continues to grow.

On June 14, 2007 his painting American Shipping off the Rock of Gibraltar sold for 2,710,000 pounds, "the highest price paid at auction for Aivazovsky".

He is also said to be the most forged of all Russian painters.

On April, 2012, Ivan Aivazovsky’s canvas View of Constantinople and the Bosphorus was sold at Sotheby’s auction in London for a record $5.2 million (3.2 million pounds).

He is in the highest category #1 - an artist of the world fame, tested with time (for no less than a century)" in "United Artists Rating".

The Ninth Wave is his "most celebrated work". Aivazovsky is considered one of the most prominent Russian artists (especially in marine art) and one of the greatest marine artists of the 19th century.

Aivazovsky was born in the town of Feodosiya (Theodosia), Crimea (Russian Empire) to a poor Armenian family. His brother was the Armenian Archbishop Gabriel Aivazovsky. His family moved to the Crimea from Galicia (then in southern Poland, now in Ukraine) in 1812. His parents' family name was Aivazian but in Poland it was written Haivazian.

Some of the artist's paintings bear a signature, in Armenian letters, "Hovhannes Aivazian". His father taught him to play the violin and speak Polish and Ukrainian fluently. His talent as an artist earned him sponsorship and entry to the Simferopol gymnasium №1 and later the St.Petersburg Academy of Arts, which he graduated with a gold medal.

Earning awards for his early landscapes and seascapes, he went on to paint a series of portraits of Crimean coastal towns before travelling throughout Europe. In later life, his paintings of naval scenes earned him a long-standing commission from the Russian Navy stationed in the Black Sea.

In 1845, Aivazovsky went to İstanbul upon the invitation of Sultan Abdülmecid I, a city he was to travel to eight times between 1845-1890.

During his long sojourn in İstanbul, Aivazovsky was commissioned for a number of paintings as a court painter by the Ottoman Sultans Abdülmecid, Abdulaziz and Abdulhamid, 30 of which are currently on display in the Ottoman Imperial Palace, the Dolmabahce Museum and many other museums in Turkey.

His works are also found in dozens of museums throughout Russia and the former Soviet republics, including the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg.

The largest collections of his works are at the Aivazovsky Art Gallery in Feodosiya, Ukraine, and the National Gallery of Armenia.

At 31, Aivazovsky married Julia Graves, an English governess in St. Petersburg. They had four daughters. The marriage was dissolved, and at the age of 65, Aivazovsky, married Anna Boornazian, a young Armenian widow from Theodosia.

Aivazovsky was deeply affected by the Hamidian massacres of Armenians in Asia Minor in 1895, painting a number of works on the subject such as "The Expulsion of the Turkish Ship" and "The Armenian Massacres at Trevizond" and renouncing a medal which had been awarded to him in İstanbul.

He spent his last years in Feodosia where he supplied the town with water from his own estate, opened an art school, began the first archaeological excavations in the region and built a historical museum.

Due to his efforts a commercial port was established at Feodosiya and linked to the railway network. Aivasovsky died in Feodosiya in 1900.

Aivazovsky is best known for his seascapes and coastal scenes.

His technique and imagination in depicting the shimmering play of light on the waves and seafoam is especially admired, and gives his seascapes a romantic yet realistic quality that echoes the work of British watercolorist J. M. W. Turner and Russian painter Sylvester Shchedrin.

Especially effective is his ability to depict diffuse sunlight and moonlight, sometimes coming from behind clouds, sometimes coming through a fog, with almost transparent layers of paint.

A series of paintings of naval battles painted in the 1840s brought his dramatic skills to the fore, with the flames of burning ships reflected in water and clouds.

He also painted landscapes, including scenes of peasant life in Ukraine and city life in İstanbul.

Some critics have called his paintings from İstanbul Orientalist, and others feel the hundreds of seascapes can be repetitive and melodramatic.

Ivan Konstantinovič Ajvazovskij / Иван Константинович Айвазовский (1817-1900) è stato un pittore Russo.

Spirito sfuggente e vulcanico, presto Ajvazovskij lasciò la sua città natale e compì lunghi viaggi in Europa, Turchia, Asia Minore, lasciandoci una cospicua mole di dipinti (circa seimila), principalmente paesaggi marini; la sua opera più celebre è La nona onda, realizzata nel 1850.

Produzione pittorica

Durante i suoi sessanta anni di carriera, Ajvazovskij ci ha lasciato circa seimila dipinti, la maggior parte dei quali è a tema marino; raramente dipinse paesaggi terrestri, ed ha eseguito solo una manciata di ritratti.

Per quanto riguarda lo stile pittorico di Ajvazovskij, è assai fedele ai principi del Romanticismo.

Le sue primissime opere risentono dell'influenza dei suoi insegnanti all'Accademia, Sylvester Shchedrin e Maxim Vorobiev; nel corso della sua carriera, invece, si mostrò molto sensibile all'influsso esercitato dai pittori classici, quali Salvator Rosa, Jacob van Ruisdael e Claude Lorrain.

Tra le fonti d'ispirazione contemporanee si può invece annoverare Karl Pavlovič Brjullov, l'autore della celebre opera Gli ultimi giorni di Pompei, che lo stimolò lo sviluppo creativo.

Per il resto, la sua adesione al gusto romantico incide su diversi aspetti della sua opera pittorica, come il drammatico uso dei colori, l'esaltazione del sentire sublime, i delicati effetti luminosi, la tendenza a raffigurare grandi scene drammatiche.

Per questo motivo, quando alla metà del secolo l'arte mondiale approdò al Realismo, lo stile di Ajvazovskij venne aspramente criticato.

Teodor Axentowicz | Academic painter

Teodor Axentowicz (1859-1938) was a Polish-Armenian painter and university professor.

A renowned artist of his times, he was also the rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków.

As an artist, Axentowicz was famous for his portraits and subtle scenes of Hutsul life, set in the Carpathians.

In Paris, he received the prestigious title of Officier d'Académie Ordre des Palmes Académiques and Member of Académie des Beaux-Arts.

In 1904 at the St. Louis World's Fair, Axentowicz received a Special Commemorative Award in recognition of distinguished service in connection with various national sections of the Department of Art.

In addition to Society of Polish Artists "Sztuka", he was also a member of the Vienna Secession and Hagenbund.

Between 1879-1882 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.

From there he moved to Paris, where he was a student of Carolus-Duran and continued his education until 1895.

During that time he started a long-time cooperation with various journals and started his career as a copyist, duplicating the works of Tizian and Botticelli for Le Monde illustré.

He also made numerous travels to London and Rome, where he prepared a set of portraits, one of the first in his career.

In 1894 he started collaboration with Wojciech Kossak and Jan Styka during the preparation of the Racławice Panorama, one of the largest panoramic paintings in the history of Polish art.

The following year he moved to Kraków, where he became a professor at the local Academy of Fine Arts.

He was also active in the local society and cooperated with various societies devoted to propagation of arts and crafts.

In 1897 he founded an artistic conservatory for women and soon afterwards became one of the founders of the Sztuka society, whose members were such artists as Józef Chełmoński, Julian Fałat, Jacek Malczewski, Józef Mehoffer, Jan Stanisławski, Włodzimierz Tetmajer, Leon Wyczółkowski and Stanisław Wyspiański.

In 1910 he became the rector of the Academy and since 1928 was also an honorary member of the Zachęta Society.

He died August 26, 1938 in Kraków.

Throughout his life he had numerous exhibitions, both in Poland and abroad.

He was awarded many gold metals at both national and international exhibitions.

The most notable were organized in: Berlin (1896, 1913), St. Louis (1904), Munich (1905, 1935), London (1906), Vienna (1908), Rome (1911), Venice (1914, 1926), Paris (1921), Chicago (1927) and Prague (1927).

His paintings can be found in almost all public collections in Poland and in numerous private ones there and abroad.

Axentowicz, Teodor - Pittore polacco, nato il 13 giugno 1859 a BraŞov in Transilvania.

Studiò pittura a Monaco di Baviera tra il 1879-1883, poi a Parigi sotto Carolus Duran.

Nel 1893 soggiornò a Londra e la scuola inglese del '700 molto influì sull'arte sua.

Nel 1895 fu nominato professore della Scuola di belle arti a Cracovia e, quando questa divenne accademia, ne fu ripetutamente rettore.

L'Axentowicz dipinse dapprima vaste composizioni storiche, ma più tardi si dedicò a scene di vita tra i montanari dei Carpazî (Huzuli), trattate ad olio ed a pastello.

Tutti questi quadri, come la Danza degli Huzuli, il Funerale, la Benedizione dell'acqua, sono d'un vivo colore locale.

Intanto raggiunse a Londra, a Parigi, a Cracovia, grande fama nei ritratti: notissimo quello di Sarah Bernhardt e del figlio di lei con la moglie.

Ma i suoi ritratti più lodati sono quelli a disegno ed a pastello, di una sua tecnica personale, che nei soggetti femminili raggiunge una grazia raffinata indimenticabile.

Julio César Rodríguez Aguilar is a Cuban-born surrealist painter, illustrator and drawing teacher known for creating dreamlike, symbolic works.

Since he was young he was inclined to the arts.

He began his studies at the age of 12, in the vocational school of art in Holguin.

He later continued in a professional school in the city.

After graduating in 1995, he dedicated himself entirely to finding his own true line of art.

He became and art professor of drawing for six years while participating in multiple personal and collective expositions throughout Cuba, Canada, Spain, China, USA, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Italy and the Dominican Republic.

He now resides in Florida where he continues to create his scenarios and fantasies through painting and drawing.

His work is a mix of figuration and expressionism with and air of surrealism where he projects his vision of the world, nature and man poetically and philosophically.

Julio César Rodríguez Aguilar è un pittore, illustratore ed insegnante di disegno Cubano nato a Holguín, Cuba.

Adebanji Alade ROI, otherwise known as The Addictive Sketcher’, features regularly on the BBC’s The One Show, and can often be found sketching travellers on the London Underground.

He trained at Yaba College of Technology in Nigeria, later obtaining a diploma in portraiture from Heatherley’s School of Fine Art in Chelsea, where he now teaches.

He is also the founder of The Addictive Sketchers Movement (his online art school) where he inspires and teaches students all over the world how to sketch anything they see accurately and confidently.

Adebanji is the president of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters; a full member of The Guild of Fine Art in Nigeria; and in 2014 was elected to the council of the Chelsea Art Society.

He also belongs to Urban Sketchers Worldwide and Plein Air Brotherhood.

His awards include Buxton Spa Sketchbook Award (2014); winner of Pinta Rapido Plein Air Event at Chelsea Town Hall in 2013; winner of Best Painting of a London Scene, Chelsea Art Society in 2010; the Alan Gourley Memorial Award at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters Exhibition 2017, and numerous others.

Adebanji has a strong following in the US as well as the UK.

He writes regularly for The Artist magazine and exhibits with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.

He teaches at the Art Academy, London, and also runs workshops and demos for schools, colleges, universities and art societies.

My work is all about people and places.

I strive to bring the force and power of the sketch into every piece I embark on. I am a strong believer in sketching and I believe everything in art starts with a sketch, so, in my works you’ll always feel the power and sense of a captured moment. I work from life and from photo references but the mission is the same-to bring a lively sketchy feel to the completed piece.

I like to focus on people because I love the play of light, moods, emotions, beauty and the variety that each face brings. I also love places because I get inspired by the atmosphere, historical importance, mood and the play of light that a particular place can offer at any point in time.

Iman Maleki, Iranian painter, was bornin Tehran.

He has been fascinated by the art of painting since he was a child.

At the age of 15, he started to learn painting under the mastery of his first and only teacher - Morteza Katouzian, who is the greatest realist painter of Iran.

José Malhoa | Naturalist painter

José Vital Branco Malhoa, known simply as José Malhoa (28 April 1855 - 26 October 1933) was a Portuguese painter.

Malhoa was, with Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro, the leading name in Portuguese naturalist painting in the second half of the 19th century.

They were both members of the Grupo do Leão (Lion Group), a group of artists and writers in the 1880s.

He often painted popular scenes and subjects, like his two most famous paintings: The Drunks (1907) and Fado (1910).

He always remained faithful to the naturalist style, but in some of his works there are impressionist influences, as in his Autumn (1918), that can be considered an "impressionist exercise".

Malhoa was born in Caldas da Rainha, and studied art at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Lisbon from the age of 12.

He died in Figueiró dos Vinhos, aged 78.

At the end of his life, he saw the inauguration of the José Malhoa Museum, in Caldas da Rainha.

Malhoa's House, also known as the Dr. Anastácio-Gonçalves House-Museum, in Lisbon, was originally built in 1905 as a residence and studio for the artist.

It was bought by Dr. Anastácio-Gonçalves, an art collector, a year before the painter's death, and it became a museum in 1980, showcasing several items from his collection, namely works from Portuguese painters of the 19th and 20th century.

From 1921 until his death he was the master of the renowned painter Maria de Lourdes de Mello e Castro, who was his last disciple.

In 1933, the year of his death, the José Malhoa Museum was created in Caldas da Rainha.

He had artistic collaboration in the magazine Atlântida (1915-1920).

His well known studio, named "Casulo", in Figueiró dos Vinhos, is restored and available for visits.

Italian artist Sergio Cerchi (1957-2026) was born in Florence, where he lived and worked all his lifem.

Sergio Cerchi worked in what could be defined as the quadrantism painting style.

The artist passed away on July 17, 2026.

He was educated at the Art Institute d'Arte di Porta Romana and studied at the Cherubim Conservatory courses.

From childhood, Sergio Cerci was "torn" between music and the visual arts: two indivisible passions cultivated with tenacity and determination, forcing him to simultaneously attend the workshops of local artists and play in various musical groups.

He began painting at the age of 15, trying different techniques and approaches before his personal style matured.

"Figures and Geometry" form the basis of his special vision of reality, which received an ethical impetus, as a result of which his paintings began to express not only artistic, but also philosophical, historical and psychological values.

Sergio Cerci's early works (landscapes and other surrounding views) developed under the influence of the concept of "cubism", the artist interpreted in his own way moments from his own past, which, over time, radically changed the material and coloristic attitudes.

The objects and background in his painting grow like musical signs on the stave, blurring the horizon line and volumes, where figures of people and details of faces mix to form the original.

Shades of oil paints, warm undertones of red carmine mixed with shades of ocher, green and blue backgrounds, with elaborate shading, enliven the stone materials and sculptural forms of the Renaissance masters on which he "feeds".

Duma Arantes is a prominent Portuguese contemporary painter born in Lisbon, best known for her signature pop-art and fashion-influenced portraits of the female form.

Vladimir Fechyk (Fecik) was born in Mukachevo, Ukraine.

He began painting early, and he began attending the Children's School of Art at 10, and continued there for 4 years.

At the age of 15 he attended the State School of Art in Charkov, Ukraine, also for 4 years.

The State School was established for the most talented pupils and only every 15th candidate is accepted.

At the age of 15, Fechyk had the best grades at examinations and during his 4 years of study, won many competitions in painting and drawing.

After finishing school, Fechyk taught at the same Children's School of Art that he had attended in his youth.

Since 1993, Vladimir has lived and exhibited in Prague, Czechoslovakia. He is married and has one daughter.

As a hobby, he is interested in Eastern philosophy, mainly the cultures of India.

Randolph Rogers | Nydia, the Blind Flower Girl of Pompeii, 1859

"Nydia, the Blind Flower Girl of Pompeii" by Randolph Rogers (Waterloo, New York 1825-1892 Rome) was the most popular American sculpture of the nineteenth century.

According to Rogers, it was replicated 167 times in two sizes.

The subject was drawn from "The Last Days of Pompeii" (1834), a widely read novel by Lord Edward Bulwer-Lytton, which ends with the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in a.d. 79.

Rogers’s evocative portrayal of Nydia highlights her heroic attempt to lead two companions out of the burning, ash-covered city.

Her closed eyes and staff allude to her blindness, while the hand raised to her ear refers to her acute sense of hearing.

Among the most memorable characters in Edward Bulwer-Lytton's hugely popular novel The Last Days of Pompeii (1834) is Nydia, a blind flower seller.

In love with the noble-born Glaucus, who is engaged to Ione, Nydia knows the hopelessness of her position and endures her suffering with quiet courage.

On the fateful day in A.D. 79 when Vesuvius erupts and buries Pompeii, Nydia attempts to lead Glaucus and Ione to safety through the darkness caused by the falling ash.

In the crush of the fleeing crowds, the three become separated, and Nydia desperately seeks to find the others.

As Bulwer-Lytton wrote:

"... it occurred to Nydia, that as it had been resolved to seek the seashore for escape, her most probable chance of rejoining her companions would be to persevere in that direction.

Guiding her steps, then, by the staff which she always carried, she continued, with incredible dexterity, to avoid the masses that encumbered her path-to thread the streets - and unerringly (so blessed was that accustomed darkness, so afflicting in ordinary life) to take the nearest direction to the sea-side.

Poor girl! her courage was beautiful to behold! and Fate seemed to favor one so helpless.

The boiling torrents touched her not... but spared that frail form...

Weak, exposed, yet fearless, supported by but one wish, she was the very emblem of Psyche in her wanderings... of Hope, walking through the Valley of the Shadow; a very emblem of the Soul itself - alone but comforted, amid the dangers and snares of life".

Nydia ultimately does rejoin and save Glaucus and Ione, but realizing that her love will never be fulfilled, drowns herself in despair.

Randolph Rogers was one of the most gifted of the many American sculptors who lived and worked in Italy during the nineteenth century.

Like other neoclassical sculptors of the day, he sought subjects that would allow him to demonstrate an accomplished handling of the human form and technical understanding of the medium of marble, but which would also convey a strong moral message.

Just a decade earlier Hiram Powers had gained fame and fortune with his Greek Slave (1843), skillfully blending the allure of a full-length female nude with a narrative text that stressed her chasteness and piety.

With Nydia, Rogers followed a similar path, for although she is clothed, those familiar with the story would have delighted in the mix of sensual longing and doomed love.

Furthermore, unlike Powers' Greek Slave, who stands motionless, Rogers' Nydia is dramatically animated.

She is shown hurrying, hand to ear, listening for directional clues, as her drapery streams around her body and flutters behind her.

In a particularly beautiful passage, Rogers arranged the clothing folded around her staff and cascading down below it.

At her side a fallen Corinthian capital reminds the viewer of the death and destruction that surrounds her as she flees.

Nydia was a great success for Rogers, achieving a popularity rivaled by few contemporary sculptures and ultimately earning him more than $70,000.

In accord with accepted practice, Rogers first completed a full-size plaster model, which then served as the basis for marble versions that were cut and finely polished by skilled Italian masons.

Smaller examples, measuring only 36 inches, and much less costly, were also made in substantial numbers, spreading the sculpture's fame far and wide.

Nydia (o Nidia) è uno dei personaggi più famosi e commoventi del romanzo storico Gli ultimi giorni di Pompei (The Last Days of Pompeii), scritto da Edward Bulwer-Lytton nel 1834.

Chi è Nydia

Il ruolo: È una giovane schiava greca, cieca, che vive a Pompei sbarcando il lunario come fioraia e suonatrice di cetra.

Il carattere: Nonostante la sua condizione di schiavitù e la cecità, è un personaggio fiero, sensibile e profondamente appassionato.

La trama ed il triangolo amoroso

L'amore non corrisposto: Nydia è segretamente e disperatamente innamorata di Glauco, un nobile e generoso ateniese.

Il salvataggio: Glauco, impietosito dalle sofferenze della ragazza (che veniva maltrattata dai suoi padroni), la riscatta e la tiene con sé, trattandola con estrema gentilezza.

La rivale: Glauco è però innamorato della bellissima Ione.

Nydia, consumata dalla gelosia, viene ingannata dal malvagio sacerdote Arbace, che la usa per dividere i due amanti.

Il riscatto e l'eroismo durante l'eruzione

Il momento di massimo splendore del personaggio coincide con la catastrofica eruzione del Vesuvio del 79 d.C.:

Il paradosso della cecità: Mentre l'intera città di Pompei viene avvolta dall'oscurità totale a causa della cenere e dei fumi tossici, i cittadini vedenti entrano nel panico più totale, incapaci di orientarsi.

La guida: Nydia, abituata a muoversi nel buio grazie ai suoi sensi super sviluppati (tatto e udito), diventa l'unica persona in grado di trovare la via di fuga.

Il sacrificio: La ragazza rintraccia Glauco e Ione nel caos e, mettendo da parte la propria gelosia, li prende per mano e li guida sani e salvi verso il mare, salvando loro la vita.

La fine tragica

Una volta in salvo su una barca, consapevole che il suo amore per Glauco non potrà mai essere ricambiato e sfinita dal dolore, Nydia decide di porre fine alle sue sofferenze.

Approfittando del sonno dei due amanti, si lascia scivolare silenziosamente nelle acque del mare, annegando.

La figura di Nydia ha riscosso un enorme successo nell'Ottocento, diventando un vero e proprio mito romantico.

Timur Tsaku,1972 | Surreal / Hyperrealist painter

Timur Tsaku was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

After graduating from art school in 1987, he continued his education in the P.P. Ben’kov College majoring in theater decoration and taught painting and sketching in the Tashkent Academy of Art and Theater.

In 1991, Tsaku left for Israel, where he began working on Chayot HaKodesh (The G-d’s Angels) paintings, that were later combined into one of his most significant art series.

This series made Tsaku famous in the art world, and especially among the American artists of the realism genre.

He returned to Israel in 2001 to create biblically-inspired Israeli art.

In 2006 Tsaku started working on portraits of Jewish holy men (“Tsadikim”).

The virtuoso skill of his technique has helped to establish Tsaku as a true master of a portrait genre.

His portraits are characterized by their hyper-realistic style, and reflect a unique combination of artistic talent, black-and-white components and astounding technique of precision in the small details.

The figures in his paintings take up the majority of the area of the pictures, with an abstract view in the background.

Pictures of people and animals that he paints, using the “triple zero” paint brush and a magnifying glass, look almost like photographs.

His successful virtuoso technique reflects the uniqueness, mood and character of the individual in a way that evokes pause.

His works are so unique that the artist is immediately identifiable.

His paintings arouse astonishment, combining hyper-realism and surrealism.

Tsaku was commissioned to paint a portrait of Boris Yeltsin in 2011 and he continues painting the official portraits of many of the Russian statesmen and diplomats.

His creations are displayed in the most prestigious art galleries in the United States, select collections in Israel, and in the private collections of President of Russia Vladmir Putin, Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, and many other famous personalities.

David Alexander "Alex" Colville (Toronto, 24 agosto 1920 - Wolfville, 16 luglio 2013) è stato un pittore Canadese.

Nato a Toronto (Ontario), si trasferisce da piccolo con la famiglia in Nuova Scozia.

Frequenta la Mount Allison University dal 1938 al 1942.

Nel 1942 si è sposato con Rhoda Wright; per alcuni mesi parte all'estero come artista di guerra.

Tiene la prima mostra personale nel 1951 a New Brunswick Museum.

Negli anni cinquanta tiene mostre a New York e Toronto.

Nel 1966 rappresenta il Canada alla Biennale di Venezia.

L'anno seguente viene nominato ufficiale dell'Ordine del Canada.

Espone, negli anni settanta, frequentemente in Europa (Berlino, Londra, Düsseldorf, Arnhem) e negli anni ottanta anche in Asia (Tokyo, Hong Kong, Pechino).

Nel 1982 viene nominato compagno dell'Ordine del Canada.

Diviene, nel 1990, membro del consiglio della National Gallery of Canada di Ottawa.

Nel 2003 viene nominato membro dell'Ordine della Nuova Scozia.

È morto serenamente nel luglio 2013.

Colville had some success while still enrolled at Mount Allison, exhibiting at the Art Association of Montreal (now the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts) in 1941, and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 1942.

After the war, Colville returned to New Brunswick and became a faculty member with the Fine Arts Department at Mount Allison University, where he taught from 1946 to 1963.

Colville is often cited as belonging to the Magic Realism movement, and within this he developed his own style that influenced both a regional and national art community, as teacher and founder of what would become known as Maritime Realism.

By contrast to other members of the Maritime school, the composition of his work involved geometry.

Often too, in his later work, he seized on the fugitive moment, imagining a hypothetical "What if" something happened in the conscious world.

Maritime Realism came to fruition during the apex of abstract painting's ascendancy both nationally and internationally.

Colville influenced a host of students that pursued a realist painting style.

He left teaching to devote himself to painting and print-making full-time from a studio in his home in Sackville on York Street; this building is now named Colville House.

The house was donated to Mount Allison by the Colville family. It now serves as a museum and gallery dedicated to Alex Colville's life and work under the auspice of the Owens Art Gallery.

Colville often used his immediate surroundings as subject matter, using his family as models.

Throughout his career, his wife Rhoda Colville, who was also an artist and poet, served as a model for a number of his celebrated works.

Rhoda Colville's recreational life as a swimmer, skater, dancer, singer, pianist and cyclist was featured in her husband's pieces, often set in the landscapes and waterways of Annapolis Valley.

In 1966, works by Colville along with those of Yves Gaucher and Sorel Etrog represented Canada at the Venice Biennale.

In 1967, Colville was made an Officer of the Order of Canada, elevated to Companion in 1982, the order's highest level.

In 1973, the University of Windsor gave him an honorary doctor of laws.

Colville lived in St. Catharines, Ontario, for three years before moving to Nova Scotia.

In 1973, he moved his family to his wife's hometown of Wolfville, where they lived and worked in the house that her father built and in which she was born.

In contrast to many of his contemporaries, Colville aligned himself with the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada and was a card-carrying party member for many years.

In 1981 he was appointed chancellor of Nova Scotia's Acadia University serving in that role until 1991.

In 1997, he received an honorary degree at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.

Cecil Kennedy (1905-1997) was a painter in oils who specialised in flowers becoming one of the popular British flower painters of his time.

Cecil Kennedy was celebrated as one of the finest horticultural and still-life artists of the 20th century.

He is best known for his extraordinarily detailed and luminous flower arrangements, which critics frequently compared to the works of the 17th-century Dutch and Flemish Old Masters.

After training at art school in London, Paris, Antwerp and Zürich, Kennedy studied under a number of artists, the most influential being Nieco Jungmann.

Served in the British Army during World War II.

His deployment to Antwerp in 1944 allowed him to study Flemish museum collections firsthand, shifting his focus heavily toward precise still-life details.

His work famously features a tiny ladybird or bumblebee tucked into the arrangements.

Queen Mary originally noticed a ladybird in an early painting and suggested he make it his permanent artistic trademark.

He also studied in Antwerp and Paris and was awarded a silver medal at the Paris Salon in 1956 and a gold medal in 1970.

His carefully delineated flower paintings have been likened to those of the Dutch 17th Century Masters in approach and devotion to detail.

Kennedy has held exhibitions in London, Paris, New York and Johannesburg and exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy, The Royal Hibernian and the Royal Scottish Academy.

Espose regolarmente presso istituzioni prestigiose come la Royal Academy di Londra.

Ricevette inoltre una medaglia d'argento (1956) ed una medaglia d'oro (1970) al celebre Salon di Parigi.
