It's hard to imagine someone other than John Galliano at the helm of the Christian Dior empire -- and especially during Couture season, when his perceptive artistry really gave way. However, fashion lives on. And quite beautifully! I love this transitional what-next period, this kind of exploration into what Dior will now be. I loved the ruffles, the color, the candy-coating and gold sequins. My favorite is the second photo below, the look on the left with the pastel yellow box-like jacket. (All photos via Style).

Love the shoes! I love this candy thematic, with the ruffles of the skirts and colorful makeup.

I love the structure of the skirt on the left, the way it twists into the tight bud of peach color in the center there. And the green strapless gown reminds me of Medusa and her sirens.

Glamorous and finally whimsical, the contrast between this dark and seductive green with the bright hues of the intricate gown on the right.

New Chic

I hope the summer weather is treating everyone well! I actually picked this set of resort collections randomly; scrolling through the pages and pages.I kept it a bit condensed, but I really love these picks: Chloé, Gucci, and Nanette Lepore. They all catered to a similar clientele: modern (of course), but definitively classic. The pieces are classic with contemporary flare. For example, a knee-length pleated skirt done in fabulous gold (Gucci) and short, flowing skirts done in young prints (Lepore). (Via Style's Resort Coverage).

I loved the Sartorialist-like photographs for Chloé's resort collection. It wasn't as cohesive as I would have liked, but the classics are all there: the classic ruffle blouse and skirt, 70's style wide-legged pant, printed outerwear.

I loved these looks; the salmon blouse topped with the coral orange jacket was so well done, in terms of color palette. Then the seemingly innocent printed cardigan juxtaposed with the black dress. Love!

Gucci was refined this season, the only extravagance exhibited by the golden highlights and lamé-like textiles.

So sexy! I love this wine-purple, abstract print against the white (left). The strapless, white gown accented with the gold is flawless as well. Gucci Resort 2012.

I loved the latest from Nanette Lepore; the "twist on Americana" was lovely -- fun, printed skirts and silk blouses done in classic silhouettes, along with that fabulous green coat.

Color Movement

I think Ellie Tahari really had a well-thought out collection for Resort 2012. All of the colors were perfectly matched and presented in a logical progression. I loved that the show started with white and gold, slowly adding the bright coral hue and then advancing to the denim and khaki. Finally, ending with black and beige with white accents. I love the gold detail against the white; it reminds me a little of Ancient Egypt and pharaohs and queens -- love it!

These looks are definitely more wearable, I especially love the slim, cropped pants and the blue blazer.

"Too much may not be enough"

What didn't Chanel do during their Resort 2012 collection? Everything from fitted suit-like coats and bathing suits, to black and white motifs, patterned and flowy dresses, and evening-wear! It was definitely a treasury of styles, but all had one common theme: slim silhouette. Jackets were tailored close to the body and volume was limited. The rich collection, set at the Hotel du Cap in the French Riviera was a perfect combination of looks. I read that the Resort collection stays in Chanel boutiques the longest of all the collections -- so the mélange was definitely a strategic move. I thought it was lovely, but what did you think? Fit for a wedding! I love the that the photo on the left is like an entourage. And Karl is impeccable, as usual.

I wasn't a fan of the knee-length sandals, but I love how fitted the yellow suit-like dress is on the left. Conversely, the casual quality of the white sweater is so cute!

I love, love the stripes in these two completely different looks. But that's not the only thing they have in common... look at the hats too!

The only volume in the show was found in the sleeves of the black blouse! I love the flowing blouse with the loose trousers, I think it's so casual, yet the construction still makes it elegant and high-class.

I absolutely adore the dress on the right: the triangular pattern and colors really look amazing against the jet black.

These two were so different from the rest of the show, but I liked the dimension they add to the collection. We don't normally find patterns at Chanel, but I liked the subtle color palette of this one. The white and red creation on the right is interesting too: the silhouette is slim, but the proportion is deconstructed to below the waist.

Showroom Seduction

So I was in New York City on Friday... and guess where I went?! The Missoni and Nanette Lepore showrooms! It was completely amazing, Missoni's team is so fun! They're hilarious and complete geniuses, they really made me fall in love with the brand and are so knowledgeable about every aspect of their business. We got an amazing look at the looks from the Fall 2011 ready to wear, which I've featured in more detail today. (View the complete collection at Style.com).

This is a floor-length snake skin coat. When I saw this on the rack in the showroom, it was definitely overwhelming and I would not have picked it up myself, but when Diane (Missoni USA's VP) had one of the associates try it on, I fell in love. When the coat is belted, it is slimming and completely elegant. It sweeps like a gown -- absolutely beautiful.

This coat is made from two types of fur: fox and raccoon. The fox hair is the purple while the raccoon is the slimmer, grey hairs coming out of it. When Diane put it on, it was so cute! It looked so comfy and luxe.

Diane actually made fun of this coat, saying that if you walked in the New York streets, you'd look like big bird! She (and we) really loved it, just not the color! She wore it and it was so lovely! She suggested it in a purple, which would match beautifully with grey. Love it!

Pink fox fur vest! This was so cute, the lining on this (and all of the other jackets and coats) is very similar to the dress shown here also. I loved that the lining was light and floral -- not at all like many fall and winter coats, which have darker linings (which are not as fun!).

These are some of the Nanette Lepore pieces I saw in the showroom. Did you know that 85% of the clothes are produced in New York? One of Nanette's main goals is to make as much as possible in the States. I loved all of the pieces we saw -- it's all very elegant and whimsical. The runway collections serve as inspirations for the designs you see in Saks, Neiman Marcus, and the Nanette Lepore boutiques.

Fall 2011 Jewelry and ADR

Anna dello Russo, please do not ever go away! I think she is one of fashion's most influential people (to say the least!). Her style is indescribable and wardrobe a fashionista's dream. Going through some of the photographs of her by Tommy Ton, whose ADR exhibition will be at Toronto's The Bay, has really inspired some of the things I will be looking for this season. The epitome of glamour and embellishment -- who isn't in love? Her outfit here is absolutely divine.

I've been going through a jewelry trend lately, I love these Fall 2011 necklaces from Dannijo (left) and Fendi (right).

I love gold, chains, and any combination of the two! Giambattista Valli is on the left and this door-knocker-like necklace is from Givenchy. I love that these statement pieces; you could wear them with a plain white tee and some jeans and you will get plenty of compliments!

One of ADR's more toned down looks, but I love her just the same. She is elegant and classy at all times!

Of course, more gold! I love the stones in the Kara Ross necklace (left) -- it almost looks like the night sky (or outer space, really!) -- I love it. It's simple and I can imagine it with so many outfits! The gold chain-link on the right is a Yves Saint Laurent bracelet (love love love).

These are both Christian Dior necklaces -- I love the shapes and ornamentation. I especially love the pearl accents on the right and that wine-red stone!

Burberry! Oh, Burberry!

Burberry celebrated the opening of their flagship Beijing store the other day with an amazing runway show. We're talking about holograms. Amazing holograms. Watch the video, be amazed, fall in love with Burberry all over again. It was absolutely stunning and breathtaking. Definitely take the time to watch this!

I believe the entire show is digital -- that is, not one physical model is walking on the runway. Correct me if I am wrong? But I believe that is it. Amazing, no?

Bag Lady

Bags, bags, bags! And I'm not talking about those horrendous things we use concealer to cover up after late nights and cocktail parties! I've recently been looking at a ton of bags. At the moment, I'm a big fan of Louis Vuitton -- especially some of the bags I've featured today. I am also in love with the YSL Muse II (the messenger bag version) because it's just so cute! I'm seeing a lot of smaller clutches and flap bags too! What are some of your favorite bags and designer bag styles?

Some of the clutches from Louis Vuitton Fall 2011 ready-to-wear; I love the jade green color of the bag on the right. The shape is gorgeous -- fold over with a handle, I'm sure you could probably carry it as a top-handle as well. Love! (via Style)

On the left is a beautiful leather Hermes -- I love the bright red! It's so sexy and would brighten up any look. The quality is impeccable. Right: YSL gold clutch -- look at those gold chains. I completely adore them -- they're kind of edgy but classy and luxurious. Paired with the gold-chain-link bracelet. (via Style)

Left: Lanvin beetle necklace, it's so chunky and elegant. Its heaviness looks great in contrast with the lightness of the model's blouse. Right: Chanel, of course! Fancy-work

Time to get fancy! I am hating all of this March weather, but so glad that spring will be coming soon (hopefully, anyways). And I know behind I am on Paris show updates, but I also think any time is a good time for a little fashion pick-me-up! (All photos via Style).

This collection was absolutely chic. I avoid using that word oftentimes, but I really thought this Azzaro collection was innately French and glam. I loved the lace (look at that sexy slit in the center!) and the feminine ruffles, the bows, all very boudoir-esque and cocktail.

I loved the use of fabric here, very textured and voluminous with knits and creases here and there. I also loved the dark lipstick! Anne Valerie Hash Fall RTW '11.

Balmain beauties! The horizontal sequin work was so fabulous -- there was a large supply of micro-dresses and blazers, so no need to fret! I adore the dress on the left. Fall RTW '11.

I was intrigued by this collection: look closely at the skirt (left), study the pleats and folds -- isn't it brilliant? Antonio Berardi Fall RTW '11.

Oh, Dior! Rich colors and lush textures make for one very luxurious collection; it was a kind of English bohemian feel, yet very strong and confident. I love the patterned shorts on the left!

The second dimension to the collection was quite feminine: ruffles, but not in the same sense as Azzaro -- these were much more free-flowing and light, not as structured. Kind of like loose fabric blowing in the wind. Christian Dior Fall RTW '11.

Refined, with a slight attempt at youth. I feel like the Valentino collections have been a sort of slump (not necessarily in a bad way), but that the visions are all very similar: bits of sheer here and there, but all very much polished and well-mannered.

The sophistication of the black combination on the left is remarkable: I can't tell whether it is a dress or a coat! There appears to be a black lace slip underneath that is covered with a lace, embroidered "coat" or cover-up of sorts. I love the concept behind it, it's very exquisite. Valentino Fall RTW '11.

Live

In light of everything that has happened globally recently, I wanted to keep this update brief. My main message is this: enjoy everything. I love everything. I'm happy to live life and to move forward. My best wishes for everyone -- seize every moment, love the ones who treat you right, and most importantly, live.

Be fierce! Do not let the world make you hard, just be fabulous and Miu Miu.

Dark and grunge. I love the tweed layers on top of the shirts and the rolled-up pants. So powerful and relentless. Chanel Fall RTW '11.

Absolutely provoking: I love the elaborate cardigan. I love the depth to the collection: every lightness was explored. From heavy coats to light and flowing sheaths. Chanel.

Sophisticated. The skinny belt on the white suit is the perfect touch; the collection was an homage to the lean, boyish silhouette. Kind of like le smoking, stunning. Yves Saint Laurent.

Evolution

It's always difficult to view collections without being too personal. What I mean is welcoming the avant-garde and the innovative. It's difficult to look at something new, something experimental and brilliant and to actually recognize its worth and genius. I can't say my style is inventive, but I love the evolution of the small details: how lace has translated into sexy dresses, blazers studded with sequins, layers and layers of lush textures and fabrics. Not your typical Bottega Veneta; I loved the sexyness of it. The evening-wear of the collection was very boudoir-esque and smoky, the effect was classy. Fall RTW '11.

The Dolce & Gabbana woman is two types: the cool masculine with fitted blazers and slick shoes. But she's also sultry and starry-eyed: a mix of loose-flowing blousons and your classic Dolce tight-fitting corset dresses.

I love the jeweled textures here: reminds me of a Byzantine crown studded with lavish jewels. Love it! Dolce and Gabbana Fall RTW '11.

Not your usual draping, I am in love with the black lace dress (left). Lanvin Fall RTW '11.

I want a Missoni sweater! So cool and casual, so chic!

Long draped gowns stole the show; with either hip-high slits or sheer with the "model's matching briefs in view." The colorful silk flowers are so gorgeous in contrast with the black. Gucci Fall RTW '11.

Smart and artistic is the Fendi woman this season. I love the colored tights and the blue t-strap heels!

Navajo, Native American: fringe boots on all the models paired with tribal knits, bandage-like dresses, and denim! Isabel Marant Fall RTW '11.

Dior firing Galliano

Breaking news: Christian Dior is firing John Galliano after a video of him making inappropriate remarks was released. I can't believe this! Full article here. I'm torn between "but Galliano is such a genius" and frustration at his actions. I'm still in shock; do you guys think firing him is too harsh? He is so brilliant at what he does, but Dior does need to protect their image. I still can't believe it!

It is all about dressing up and feeling fabulous. I loved the Naeem Khan collection: lots of glittery sequins and feathers, smokey eyes, and sleek hair. And all these beautiful warm coats! The camel-colored coat is a variation of the split trench, but I really love the olive-toned military jacket on the left: the black fastenings are so bold. Burberry Prorsum Fall RTW '11.

Chinese-inspired collection -- I love the subtle use of color. The red lips and jade jewelry contrast so elegantly to the heavy black and coffee palette. Ralph Lauren Fall RTW '11.

Don't Forget Your Coat!

It's all about the jackets! Coats, overcoats, cargo jackets, jackets with fur, fur-lined hoods, blazers, wool knit cardigans, wool pea coats -- I want them all! This fall, it looks like we'll be pairing huge, masculine coats with little cute things with sequins and sheer fabrics. I love the light-heavy contrast. (All photos via Style).

The look on the left is one of my favorites, that heavy jacket with the sheer dress underneath. This collection was similar to the Alice + Olivia, just a little edgier, a little more masculine in color and texture. I like it that it's a bit darker. Altuzurra Fall RTW '11.

Look closely at the skirt on the left: it has a crochet cut-out pattern and scalloped edges -- how perfect! I love the dark blue-navy palette in this collection. I love blue in the fall. And olive! Vivienne Tam Fall RTW '11.

Sophisticated, this means business. I love the masculine touches on the looks: collars, ties, oxford booties, straighter silhouettes. But the punch of green is fabulous. Yigal Azrouel Fall RTW '11.

Finesse!

I'm already loving this season -- the looks seem bolder, more innovative and unfamiliar. I really appreciated the draping at Doo.Ri and the genius at Alexander Wang, who I normally don't quite understand (I am sorry to admit). But now I've seen the light and there's no turning back! That gigantic scarf, the gorgeously draped sapphire dress, and the most elegant sleeves I've ever witnessed on a blouse. And the hair! Oh, the construct is remarkable, I'm in love. Doo.Ri Fall RTW '11.

I love the coat in the middle: at the top, it starts as a chunky knit, but as it progresses down the body, it turns into the most luxurious satin. Pure brilliance. Alexander Wang Fall RTW '11.

My favorite aspects here? Pattern and texture! Rich fabrics (looks like tweed) and the lovely mustard yellow pattern is so perfectly paired with black and granite. The skirt on the far left is so fabulous! Thakoon Fall RTW '11.

I love the fur accents and black, skinny silhouettes with the legs. I think while simple (if compared to Alexander Wang), the looks are so classic and versatile. Very chic. Behnaz Sarafpour Fall RTW '11.

The look in the center is my favorite: sheer lace blouse, a grandpa cardigan with feminine touches, and the masculine pants (the belt makes all the difference!). It's that toned-down sexy we all know and love. ADAM Fall RTW '11.

Light Dark

I'm so glad the groundhog predicted more spring, I don't think I can stand any more winter! Even though it's fall fashion week, I'm looking forward to more sun! And what better way to start the weekend than with a little fashion inspiration? (All photos via Style).

I loved how the collection went from dark, heavy layers to a lighter palette and fabrics. Ah, and sequins! Richard Chai Love Fall '11 RTW.

I really like this golden-olive color and these long silhouettes! The hair + makeup make the looks so serious and austere, then contrasted with the occasional bow or sash. Luca Luca Fall '11 RTW.

I want that shade of lavender on my nails! This is from Spring Couture, but I love Saab's gowns; they're so beautiful and intricate. Elie Saab Spring Couture '11.

I don't even think I have to write anything for this one; just look at how stunning! All the detail work: beading, draping, the sash, everything. Elie Saab Spring Couture '11.

An absolute study of lightness. Sheer fabrics and a nude palette, but very refined: the body very covered, not very accentuated. It was an interesting balance of seduction and an odd (but very complex) interpretation of "pretty youth." Very well thought-out. Valentino Spring Couture '11.

I don't even know where to begin when it comes to Dior and Givenchy. How do you describe magnificence? You can't! Just skip to the photos already! (All photos via Style).

Ostrich feathers were used in the dress on the left. The movement of color from the top to the bottom of the dress is flawless. The hats and glove combination adds the last level of polished. I can't even begin to describe how beautiful and brilliant. Christian Dior Couture Spring '11.

Hidden element of surprise! Rarely do we ever get a glance at the backside of garments. I love the wing effect and all the sheer white. I can't even find the words to give it the justice it deserves. Givenchy Couture Spring '11.

One of the dresses required 2,000 hours of cutting and 4,000 hours of sewing. Was it this one? The aesthetic is superb, it's like viewing art in a museum gallery. Givenchy Spring Couture '11.

Let there be light!

The first two couture collections I spotted were the Alexis Mabille and the Chanel (of course!). There's a lightness in both collections that I liked a lot. For starters, the sheaths of transparent fabric at Alexis Mabille coupled with his signature bows were so dreamy. At Chanel, tweed in pale, neutral tones where legs were shorted with a drop-waist. But the lightness was really in the fabric detail: 10 million beads (yes, 10 million were used), delicate embroidery, lace, and an exquisite finesse to every piece. The beads created the light, the reflection off of them was marvelous. And the ballet flats were genius -- turned the models into sophisticates. I loved it! (All photos via Style).

There's such a refinement to these gowns: the bows, the cinched waists, the embroidery, everything in moderation. Just lovely. Alexis Mabille Spring/Summer Couture '11.

Haute Couture is coming up this week, so I wanted to share a few of my favorite detail shots from last season. Fashion is all about the details: artistry, texture, and expertise. When there are so many shows going on at once, I often forget to return to the small details -- even the details that are absent are important. One of my favorite details is the last photo, of a satin-blue Chanel knit, it's beautiful! Hope everyone has a great weekend! (All photos via Style).

Lanvin beauty backstage, D&G backstage. I loved the extremely natural and minimal makeup for Spring; just a little nude shadow and lush lashes!

I stole this from the wonderful Tommy Ton (of jak and jil): it's the final run of Trussardi 1911 Men's. Loved the lifestyle aspect of it with the dog.

Lanvin draping (left) and I adore the zipper and texture detail on the black dress. It's form-fitting and sexy.

A few Chanel details: pastel braids (left), braided metal bracelets (top right). I love the patterned clutch though, the colors are vibrant and perfect for Spring.

The sunglasses! I love the mosaic tile effect. And this sweater! All the loops and the thicker neckline must make it so cozy and lovely.

Be fearless

As with every new year, I've begun to re-evaluate my life (yay, it's just that time again!). While I did accomplish more shopping, mixed up my wardrobe, and did some meaningful work, there are a few things I could have worked on. For starters, schoolwork! And finding a boyfriend! Which reminds me -- if you lovely ladies (or guys!) have any tips on finding the right one, please let me know; I need all the help I can get! And now onto the fashion! (All photos via Style).

I'm in love with this Burberry Prorsum split trench from their Fall 2010 collection (via Jak and Jil).

My favorite here is definitely the patterned blouse underneath the masculine blazer (far left). The tribal patterns in dark tones are perfect for Fall. Proenza Schouler Pre-Fall 2011.

I am officially on the Olivia Palermo style train. I like the way she mixes pieces: she's not overly sexy, but not conservative or too contemporary. It seems so effortless, too! I think the word is "ravishing." But everything about her outfits is just right: the correct accessories in the right amount, the pops of red, the sophistication. She's not avant-garde, like our beloved Anna dello Russo, but she's lovely still. And her taste in nail colour is fabulous.

It's hard to distinguish in the photos, but she's wearing a pair of tweed shorts and they're just amazing. The blouse, the yellow clutch, it's divine! I love it.

It's that pair of tweed shorts again (center). What I like the most about her is her ability to accessorize; the perfect pairs of bangles, the statement necklaces, it's so exquisite!

I love food and all of its glory; I'm no stranger to French macarons or delectable fruit tarts! Think last year's Balmain, Spring 2011 Ralph Lauren, and Chanel's Pre-Fall 2011!

So I've kind of been in this glittery phase. Sequins, glittery eyeshadow, glitter on nails, shiny diamonds, lots of shine and sparkle and shimmering. I love it all! What have you lovely fashionistas been into lately? Lace and undergarments? Nudes? I want to know!
