2022 Commercial Cost Survey

The numbers are nowhere near where they were, pre-covid, but the networks do still raking large amounts of cash selling ad time on their broadcast outlets. NBC's Sunday Night Football is, by far, the top revenue producers, getting over $825K per spot.

The top prime-time money producers for each network is
The CW - WALKER ($24.5k)
ABC - GREY'S ANATOMY ($207.5k)
CBS - YOUNG SHELDON ($161k)
FOX - THE MASKED SINGER ($165.7k)

USFL Ratings Week 7 & 8: May 28-29 and June 3-5, 2022

It has been a couple of weeks since our last USFL ratings post. Only six of the eight fames in week seven and eight were on broadcast or cable TV. Peacock got two exclusive games, taking the late Sunday game in both weeks.

Daily Ratings top 7s: May 23, 2022

CBS rules the Monday night ratings of May 23, every show of the night drawing over 5.4 million viewers, lead by NCIS with just under 7.5 million viewers. ABC was second on the night with the NBA playoffs, as 6.4 million tuned in. NBC and FOX were uncompetitive, with each network in the low to mid two million viewer range. NBC aired the theatrical movie, JURASSIC WORLD, while FOX premiere its summer programs. As usual, The CW was a distant fifth with an average of just over 500,000 viewers.

USFL Ratings Week 6: May 21-22, 2022

Week six of the USFL had three of the four games on broadcast TV, but only the NBC primetime game managed to collect over one million viewers. The Panthers vs Stallions game drew 1.2 million viewers and just shy of a 0.2 rating in Adults 18-49. The game topped FOX's MLS coverage, also in Saturday night primetime, but both of those games were far behind ABC's coverage of the NBA playoffs, which had well over six million viewers.

USFL Ratings Week 5: May 13 - 15, 2022

For the first week of the season, The USFL failed to draw a million viewers to any one game on the weekend, even though three of the four games were on broadcast TV. NBC's Sunday afternoon game was the top draw with just over 900,000 viewers, while the two FOX games, one each on Saturday and Sunday, hovered around 700,000 each. The lone game on cable TV, on USA, grabbed just 250,000 on Friday night.

USFL Ratings Week 4: May 6 - 8, 2022

The ratings seems to have settled in to a decent groove, with both FOX and NBC game drawing over one million viewers each, for week four. This is the range previous games have been getting for the two networks, since week two.

USFL Ratings Week 3: April 29 - May 1, 2022

The TV ratings for the third week of the USFL looked similar to week two. The league had one game over one million viewers and another reach over 800k. Both of these games were on FOX, on Saturday.

USA had a game this week, drawing under 300k in total viewers, less than last weeks Friday night game, which drew 360k.

The final game of the week, on Sunday night, aired exclusively on Peacock. No viewership data was released from the streaming service, but It may be assumed it was the least watched game of the week.

USFL Ratings Week 2: April 22 - 24, 2022

The numbers fell in week two of the USFL, with just one game attracting over one million viewers. The FOX coverage of the Stars vs Maulers brought in just under 1.1 million viewers and a a 0.2 rating in the key 18-49 demographic.

NBC's Sunday afternoon game was the second most watched, with 810,000 viewers. The two cable networks drew well under 500k fans.

As we look at week #2 of the XFL, in 2020, three of the four games that weekend drew well over two million viewers, and the fourth, on FS1, getting over 1.3 million viewers.

Week 2 Attendance Figures:

The attendance numbers form the second weekend are not known, but most reports are stating there was a "decent" crowd for the Birmingham vs Houston game, Saturday night, but less than week one numbers. The other games have been described as noting more than three figures, with more people working the game than paid to see the game.

Week 3 Schedule:

Week three of the USFL features doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday. Starting things off, FOX has Tampa Bay vs. Houston at 4pm Saturday, immediately followed by the game of the week, Birmingham vs New Orleans, at 8pm. Sunday afternoon, Pittsburgh and Michigan battle it out at 2:30pm, on USA Network, then primetime Sunday night, Peacock has its first exclusive game with New Jersey taking on Philadelphia at 8pm.

USFL Ratings Week 1: April 16-18

The inaugural games of the "new" United States Football League kicked off this weekend, with a simulcast of the first game on both FOX and NBC. FOX drew the larger audience for the game, getting 1.76 million viewers, compared to NBC's 1.31 million. In comparison to the XFL 2.0 launch in 2020, the USFL drew about 300,000 less viewers and just 60% of the viewers in the 18-49 demographic.

The Steven Spielberg directed WEST SIDE STORY was the #1 movie in America this past wekend, but grossing just $10.6 million in its first weekend of release. The remake musical was not offered on a streaming service, making the weekend total look even worse.

Not doing well in its premiere weekend is the Will Smith movie, KING RICHARD. The movie, which can also be watched on HBOMax, grossed just $5.4 million.

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL leads all programs on Monday night, collecting 10.3 million viewers for the Giants vs Bucs game. That dominates the cable landscape, with an 8.6 million viewers advantage over #2 WWE RAW, and grabs four million more viewers than THE VOICE on NBC.

Annual holiday favorite, RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER ranked 4th on Broadcast TV, collecting 3.8 million viewers.

Football rules TV viewership in for the week of November 15, 2021. All three primetime games, on Monday night, Thursday night and Sunday Night take the top spots on both cable and broadcast TV. SNF, on NBC, drew the most with just over 14.5 million viewers.

FBI, airing on CBS, was the top scripted program, with 7.6 million viewers, but cable's YELLOWSTONE, airing on Paramount Network, was on its heel's with 7.4 million viewers. having a nice lead in, the premiere of MAYOR OF KINGSTOWN kept 2.1 million viewers from YELLOWSTONE. The series airs regularly on Paramount+.

Nielsen Top 10: Streaming originals for week of October 18, 2021

Three shows fall of this week's chart, allowing MY NAME, LOCKE & KEY and ANOTHER LIFE to enter the top 10. All three shows stream on Netflix, allowing the the streamer to grab eight spots.

YOU bumps SQUID GAME from the top spot, getting about one billion more minutes than the #2 show. MAID stays at #3, while LOCKE & KEY push THE GREAT BRITISH BAKING SHOW down to the #5 spot.

Late Night Ratings: November 8 - 12, 2021

LATE SHOW was the top draw of late night viewers, averaging just over two million viewers for the week of November 8, 2021. Colbert was also the to draw for the 18-49 demographic, getting just under 300k.

Good-ole SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS continues to generate demand, topping all programs with a 70.2x million. SNL is in second place, about 8 points less than the Nickelodeon cartoon.
