Babylon A.D. is a 2008 science fiction thriller film based on the novel Babylon Babies by Maurice Georges Dantec. The film was directed by Mathieu Kassovitz and stars Vin Diesel, Mélanie Thierry, Michelle Yeoh and Lambert Wilson.

Plot:

A few decades in the future, a mercenary named Toorop (Vin Diesel) accepts a contract from a Russian mobster, Gorsky, who instructs him to bring a young woman only known as Aurora (Mélanie Thierry) to New York. In order to reach his goal, Gorsky gave Toorop a variety of weapons as well as a UN passport that has to be injected under the skin of the neck. Toorop, along with the girl and her guardian nun Sister Rebeka (Michelle Yeoh), travel from the Noelite Convent where they lived across Russia to reach America.

The towns and cities of Russia have been turned into dangerous, over populated slums by war and terrorist activity, forcing Toorop, Aurora, and Rebeka to face dangers of the human element, all the while fleeing from an unknown group of mercenaries claiming to have been sent by Aurora's supposedly dead father. The stress of humanity's situation causes Aurora to act out in strange ways that neither Toorop, nor Rebeka can explain. On one such occasion, Aurora seemed, for no reason, to panic and run from a crowded train station, just before it was bombed.

Later, they were forced to board a submarine that carried refugees to Canada. There were too many refugees to take at once, so the submarine was forced to leave some behind, even if it came to shooting them. Aurora, infuriated by the loss of life, suddenly knew how to operate the thirty year old submarine, without having ever learned about it.

Sister Rebeka explains to Toorop that Aurora could speak nineteen different languages by the age of two, and always seemed to know things she had never learned. When, three months before leaving with Toorop, she had begun acting out in ways she never had before. This occurred after a visit by a Noelite doctor who had administered a pill to Aurora. The doctor told her to go to America, and arranged for Toorop to take them.

Once in New York, a news broadcast about the bombing of the Convent that Aurora and Rebeka hail from, caused the group to realize that there was more going on then they knew. Gorsky, working for the Noelites, had planted a tracking device in Toorop's passport, and then bombed the convent when he knew they were in America. The doctor who earlier saw Aurora in the convent then appears to examine her again. When he leaves, Aurora reveals (again without being told) that she is pregnant with twins, even though she was a virgin.

Looking outside, Toorop saw both Gorsky's men, as well as the Noelite group, heavily armed and waiting for them. The High Priestess then calls Toorop and asks him to bring Aurora outside. Just before they take her away, Toorop changes his mind and starts a firefight with the two groups with the ultimate goal of getting the two women to safety. However, because of the tracking devices, Gorsky's men can lock onto him with tracking rockets. Rebeka gets shot and killed defending Aurora, who in turn shoots Toorop saying the words "I need you to live." By dying, the rocket goes off target and hits Aurora instead.

Toorop's body was revived by Dr. Arthur Darquandier, using advanced medical techniques that involved replacing his right arm with cybernetics to undo the damage of being dead for over two hours. Darquandier explaines that when Aurora was a fetus, he genetically enhanced her by using a super computer to 'implant' intelligence into her brain. It is also implied that the Noelite group had him create Aurora to become pregnant at a certain time in order to use her as a 'virgin birth' for their religion.

After she was born, the Noelites had him assassinated, or so they thought. He remained 'dead' until he found his daughter in Russia with Toorop.

Doctor Darquandier then instructed Toorop to find Aurora before the Noelites could, which he does. Aurora dies giving birth to two children of two different colors, whom Toorop raises as his own.via

Plot Summary:

Cloverfield is a 2008 monster/horror film produced by J. J. Abrams, directed by Matt Reeves, and written by Drew Goddard. Prior to the film's release, Paramount Pictures carried out a viral marketing campaign to promote the film. The campaign included viral tie-ins similar to the Lost Experience. The film follows five young New Yorkers who throw their friend a going-away party on the same night that a gigantic monster attacks the city.

Synopsis:

Director Matt Reeves and producer J. J. Abrams turn a mysterious monster loose in Manhattan in the disaster flick CLOVERFIELD. The movie begins at a party for Rob, who has accepted a promotion that will send him to Japan. Hud is entrusted with the responsibility of videotaping the party--and as the trouble grows, he holds on to the camera, recording everything that happens. In fact, the entire movie is seen through the lens of his camera, reminiscent of THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT.

As terrified people in a post-9/11 New York City take to the streets, Rob decides to head uptown to try to save Beth, the woman he loves, though he's afraid to tell her so. Rob is joined by his brother Jason, Jason's girlfriend Lily, Lily's friend Marlena, and Hud, who has a thing for Marlena. Rob is determined not to give up, even after almost being crushed by the Statue of Liberty's head and as the military shows up to force evacuation of the city.

Reeves and first-time screenwriter Drew Goddard, who previously has written television episodes of such series as BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, ANGEL, ALIAS, and LOST, focus in on the central aspect of the story: people trying to survive the monster attack. Very little else is explained, since the story is told completely through the video camera. And there is no additional score to heighten the drama; the only music is that which is picked up by Hud and the camera's microphone, including snippets of songs by Kings of Leon, Parliament Funkadelic, Of Montreal, and others. The anticipation of CLOVERFIELD's release was enhanced by a viral marketing campaign that included Web sites built around the main characters and even the fictional drink Slusho.

Rambo is a series of popular action films starring Sylvester Stallone. It was based on the characters created by David Morrell in his novel First Blood.

The films are: First Blood (1982), Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985), and Rambo III (1988). The fourth film is simply entitled John Rambo. The films focus on a troubled Vietnam War veteran, John James Rambo, who is greatly skilled in all aspects of survival, weaponry, hand-to-hand combat and guerrilla warfare.

Synopsis:
Vietnam veteran John Rambo has survived many harrowing ordeals in his lifetime and has since withdrawn into a simple and secluded existence in Bangkok, where he spends his time salvaging old PT boats and tanks for scrap metal. Even though he is looking to avoid trouble, trouble has a way of finding him.

A group of Christian human rights missionaries, led by Michael Burnett and Sarah Miller, approach Rambo with the desire to rent his boat to travel up the river to Burma. For over fifty years, Burma has been like a war zone. The Karen people of the region, who consist of peasants and farmers, have endured brutally oppressive rule from the murderous Burmese military and have been struggling for survival every single day.

This is the time when medical assistance and general support from the Christian missionaries is needed most. After some consideration, and due to insistence from his mentor, former military man Ed Baumgartner, Rambo accepts the offer and takes Michael, Sarah, and the rest of the missionaries up the river. When the missionaries finally arrive at the Karen village, they are ambushed by the sadistic Major Pa Tee Tint and a slew of Burmese army men. A portion of the villagers and missionaries are tortured and viciously murdered, while Tint and his men hold the remainder captive.

News soon reaches the minister in charge of the mission and with the help of Ed Baumgartner he employs Rambo to lead a rescue effort. With five young and highly diverse mercenaries at his disposal, Rambo has to travel back up the river and liberate the survivors from the clutches of Major Tint in what may be one of his deadliest missions ever.

American Gangster is a 2007 crime film written by Steve Zaillian and directed by Ridley Scott. The film stars Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. Washington portrays Frank Lucas, a real-life heroin kingpin from Harlem who smuggled heroin into the US on American service planes returning from the Vietnam War. Crowe portrays Richie Roberts, a detective attempting to bring down Lucas' drug empire. Filming was done on location in New York City.

Synopsis:

Following the death of his employer and mentor, Bumpy Johnson, Frank Lucas establishes himself as the number one importer of heroin in the Harlem district of Manhattan. He does so by buying heroin directly from the source in South East Asia and he comes up with a unique way of importing the drugs into the United States. As a result, his product is superior to what is currently available on the street and his prices are lower. His alliance with the New York Mafia ensures his position. It is also the story of a dedicated and honest policeman, Richie Roberts, who heads up a joint narcotics task force with the Federal government. Based on a true story.

Aliens Vs Predator Requiem picks up exactly where the shonky predecessor by crud-meister Paul WS Anderson left off. That Alien rumble-in-the-Antarctic ended with an impregnated Predator whisked off in a spaceship by its comrades. Despite all their experience and shiny, blinky technology, the Predators fail to notice a chestburster.

In a succinct opening sequence, it grows into a formidable new 'Predalien' version of the Xenomorph, then causes the Predator spaceship to crash in the forests of Colorado, just outside the small town of Gunnison. picks up exactly where the shonky predecessor by crud-meister Paul WS Anderson left off. That Alien rumble-in-the-Antarctic ended with an impregnated Predator whisked off in a spaceship by its comrades. Despite all their experience and shiny, blinky technology, the Predators fail to notice a chestburster. In a succinct opening sequence, it grows into a formidable new 'Predalien' version of the Xenomorph, then causes the Predator spaceship to crash in the forests of Colorado, just outside the small town of Gunnison.

From the wreckage escape both the new Alien and several facehuggers, which the over-confident Predators had in jars. First a father and son out hunting, then some local tramps, become incubators for a new batch of Aliens. Across the universe, a lone, veteran Predator (Whyte) receives a distress signal, gets tooled up and jumps in his spaceship to nip down to Earth.

Meanwhile in Gunnison, the locals go about their business entirely unaware of the horrendous beasties heading their way. Local sheriff Eddie Gonzales (Ortiz) welcomes home old friend and ex-con Dallas (Pasquale). Dallas's younger brother Ricky (Lewis) has to contend with unfinished business with his ex Jesse (Hager), which aggrieves her current boyfriend Dale (Paetkau). And soldier Kelly (Aylesworth) comes home from Iraq to find her young daughter Molly (Gade) somewhat estranged.via

I Am Legend

I Am Legend is a 2007 post-apocalyptic science fiction horror film directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Will Smith. Smith plays virologist Robert Neville, who thinks he may be Earth's only human not affected by a man-made virus. He works to create a cure while living in a city inhabited by mutant victims of the plague. It is the third feature film adaptation of Richard Matheson's 1954 novel I Am Legend, following 1964's The Last Man on Earth and 1971's The Omega Man.via

Synopsis:

A virus is harnessed and used as a cure for cancer. Months later the recipients of the cure start to develop rabies-like symptoms as the virus mutates. Will Smith's character Robert Neville, and his dog Sam are survivors. Neville survives due to his immunity to both airborne and contact strains of the virus. As far as Neville knows, he is the only uninfected person in New York, and possibly the world.

He spends his time trying to make contact with other survivors, working on a cure to the virus using his blood. He kidnaps an infected Alpha female to try an antidote on. It fails, but he keeps her to continue his experiments. His dog is infected (dogs can only be infected by the contact strain) when Neville gets caught in a trap. He wants revenge but two survivors save him. The woman, Anna (Alice Braga) and the boy Ethan (Charlie Tahan) tell him about other survivors and a colony in Vermont. He doesn't believe them and starts to yell at her but he is interrupted by an attack by the Alphas.

Neville, Anna and Ethan make it to the basement laboratory where they see that the final experiment on the Alpha female was successful. He draws a vile of blood from the Alpha and gives it to Anna. The other Alphas have broken down the door and are smashing their way into the alcove to get at them. There is a small door at the back and Neville helps Anna and Ethan into the safe space. Lyla Novacek (Keri Russell) is a brilliant cellist who has just finish performing a concert in New York City. Lyla goes out on the town with her girlfriend and end up at a party near New Yorks Washington Square. She meets Louis Connelly (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) an Irish guitar player. They share the love of music and end up falling in love and bonding together that night.

It was the most wonderful night in Lylas life. Lyla must rush back to the hotel where her father Thomas (William Sadler) is waiting for her. Lyla promised to meet Louis in Washington Square, but her father forces her to go to her next concert. They are like two ships that pass in the night, never to see each other again, except for the fact that Lyla is now with child. Sadly, Lyla is in a car accident and the unborn child is lost.

Eleven years pass and Lylas father is on his death bed, and he must tell her the truth that he secretly gave Lylas baby boy up for adoption. The Golden Compass is a forthcoming fantasy film based upon Northern Lights (titled The Golden Compass in the US), the first novel in Philip Pullman's trilogy His Dark Materials, slated for release on December 5, 2007 by New Line Cinema.

The story concerns Lyra, an orphan living in a fantastical parallel universe in which a dogmatic dictatorship, the Magisterium, threatens to dominate. The project was announced in February 2002, following the success of other recent adaptations of fantasy epics, and at $150 million is expected to be one of New Line's biggest budget project ever after a series of box office disappointments in the past year.

Plot Synopsis:

It was no ordinary life for a young girl: living among scholars in the hallowed halls of Jordan College and tearing unsupervised through Oxford's motley streets on mad quests for adventure. Beowulf is a 2007 animated film directed by Robert Zemeckis, a film adaptation loosely based on the Anglo-Saxon epic poem of the same name. It was filmed using a special technique of motion capture similar to what was used in Zemeckis' previous film The Polar Express.

This adaptation of Beowulf tells the story of a Heroic Geat who travels over seas to come to the aid of Legendary but drunk King Hrothgar to help rid the people of Heorot of the monstrosity known as Grendel. But by defeating Grendel he incurs the wrath of his evil yet seductive mother, without any scales and claws. Told to kill the mother by Hrothgar, Beowulf enters her cave and becomes the latest victim in a century old tradition of deceit and destruction that has sentenced many kings and their kingdoms to misery and death.

30 Days of Night: A Horror Film For Halloween

In sleepy, secluded Barrow, Alaska, the sun sets and doesn't rise for an entire month. As everyone prepares to either leave or wait the month out, Sheriff Eben Oleson (Josh Hartnett) investigates a number of bizarre crimes around town. Cell phones are being stolen and burned, sled dogs are being killed, and basically any object allowing outside communication is being destroyed. These events are soon tracked to a stranger (Ben Foster) who has somehow made his way into the town without a visible means of transportation. The man only warns that "they're coming."

As night falls upon the town, vampires led by the ruthless Marlow appear and disable the power plant. Before anyone is fully aware of what's happening, the vampires begin to massacre the town. Eben manages to save himself and a small group, including his estranged wife Stella (Melissa George), from the vampires, but they are forced into hiding. As they try to wait out the month, one by one they are either infected or killed, soon leaving only Eben, Stella, Eben's brother Jake, and two other women.

With the end of the month approaching, the vampires break a nearby oil pipeline open, planning to burn down the town in order to keep their activities secret. Stella, having hidden under a wrecked car during this time, is trapped between the vampires and the fire. Realizing that she cannot escape on her own, Eben opts to infect himself in order to buy her the time to escape. Eben does battle with Marlow and manages to kill him. The remaining vampires, lacking guidance, cautiously retreat. As the film ends, Eben and Stella watch the sunrise together, and she holds Eben as he begins to combust from exposure to sunlight.

Another Night at the Museum now on DVD

Night at the Museum was a crappy movie but after making over $500 million worldwide, a sequel was always going to be on the cards. It looks like it might be sooner rather than later too as Dark Horizons are reporting that writers Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant are about to begin work on writing another ‘museum coming to life at night’ adventure.

The duo also wrote the original movie and since then they’ve seen their scripts Reno 911: Miami (they created the cable show too) and the upcoming Balls of Fury turned into feature films.

Both Ben Stiller and Robin Williams are both said to be signed up for a return also but not director Shawn Levy at this point.

Levy and the screenwriters struggled to flesh out enough idea’s to keep one Night at the Museum interesting (actually the script was so dumb they made the whole story develop over a couple of days rather than one night!) so a sequel seems like a mountain they might struggle to climb without re-doing the first movie all over again. Take your money from the first movie and run is what I say.

This movie was earned $560 million at the cinema during their first release.

Stardust is a 2007 fantasy film directed by Matthew Vaughn. The film is based on Neil Gaiman's novella of the same name, illustrated by Charles Vess, originally published by DC Comics, and stars an ensemble cast including Robert De Niro, Claire Danes, Nathaniel Parker, Peter O'Toole, David Kelly, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sienna Miller, Ricky Gervais and Charlie Cox.

The story begins around 150 years ago, in an English town named Wall. Wall is built beside a wall that is a portal to a magical kingdom named Faerie, which includes the realm of Stormhold.

A young man named Tristan (Charlie Cox) tries to win the heart of Victoria (Sienna Miller), the beautiful but cold object of his desire, by going on a quest to retrieve a fallen star. His journey takes him to a mysterious and forbidden land beyond the walls of his village. On his odyssey, Tristan finds the star, which has transformed into a striking girl named Yvaine (Claire Danes).

However, Tristan is not the only one seeking the star. Lord Stormhold's (Peter O'Toole) three living sons not to mention the ghosts of their four dead brothers all need the star as they vie for the throne. Tristan must also overcome the evil witch, Lamia (Michelle Pfeiffer), who needs the star to make her young again. As Tristan battles to survive these threats, encountering a pirate named Captain Shakespeare (Robert De Niro) and a shady trader named Ferdy the Fence (Ricky Gervais) along the way, his quest changes. He must now win the heart of the star for himself as he discovers the meaning of true love.

Resident Evil: Extinction is a 2007 science fiction action horror film. It is a sequel to the 2004 film Resident Evil: Apocalypse and is the third installment of the series of film adaptations based on the popular Capcom survival horror game series Resident Evil. The film was directed by Russell Mulcahy and produced by Paul Anderson, and adapts several plot elements from Resident Evil: Code Veronica as well as features various characters and creatures from the game series. The film is a departure from the usually dark and drab locations of other zombie films as it takes place in a desert wilderness.

Synopsis:

Years after the Raccoon City disaster, Alice (MILLA JOVOVICH) is on her own; aware that she has become a liability and could endanger those around her, she is struggling to survive and bring down the Umbrella Corporation led by the sinister Albert Wesker (JASON O'MARA) and head researcher Dr. Isaacs (IAN GLEN).

Evan Almighty is a 2007 comedy film, and sequel to the 2003 film Bruce Almighty. It was directed by Tom Shadyac and stars Steve Carell, and Lauren Graham, with Morgan Freeman reprising his role as God.

Evan Baxter (Steve Carell) is a Buffalo newscaster who was just elected to Congress. His slogan was to "Change the World". He moves his family to Virginia to start his new life. What Evan doesn't know is that his world was about to change. Evan prays for guidance in his new house and the next morning he begins to encounter strange things.

First his alarm clock goes off at GEN 6:14, and then he finds a house warming gift, a box filled with old tools, at his front door. The next weird thing is a truck load of wood is delivered to Evan's house. Finally, God (Morgan Freeman) appears to Evan, and commands him to build an ARK just as Noah did before him, and fill it with animals to protect them against the coming flood.

Evan believes he is under a lot of stress and that is causing him to go a little crazy. So it takes a little persuasion from God to get Evan to build an ARK.

Desperate Housewives : A TV Show series

Desperate Housewives is an American television comedy-drama series, created by Marc Cherry, who also serves as show runner, and produced by ABC Studios — The Walt Disney Company's main television studio — and Cherry Productions. Executive producers, as of the upcoming fourth season, are Marc Cherry, Bob Daily, George W. Perkins, John Pardee and Joey Murphy.

As later told by series creator Marc Cherry, the idea of the series was born as he and his mom were watching a news report on Andrea Yates, a mother of five, convicted for drowning her children. While Cherry himself was incapable of understanding what would cause someone to kill their own children, Cherry's mother told him "I've been there". The thought that "a perfectly sane, rational woman could have the life she wanted, being a wife and mother ... and still have moments of insanity" had Cherry's imagination starting, and eventually he had formed an idea of a possible television show, naming it Desperate Housewives.

The next new episode of DH was entitled "Now You Know".

Synopsis: The neighborhood is shocked when news about Edie spreads though Fairview, Lynette battles with the effects of chemotherapy, and a new family moves to Wisteria Lane, on the Season Premiere of Desperate Housewives. This episode is the season three finale.

Transformers: A 2007 live action film

Transformers is a 2007 live action film directed by Michael Bay and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, based on the Transformers franchise. The film stars Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky, who has the coordinates to the location of the Allspark, an object at the center of the war between the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons.

The film begins with Optimus Prime explaining Cybertron's destruction at the hands of Megatron, and his quest to obtain the Allspark. Megatron discovers the Allspark on Earth, but crash-lands in the Arctic Circle, becoming frozen in the ice. Captain Archibald Witwicky and his crew of explorers stumble upon Megatron's body in 1897. Megatron's navigational system is unintentionally activated, and Archibald's eye glasses are imprinted with the Allspark's coordinates. Sector 7, a secret United States government organization, discovers the Allspark and builds the Hoover Dam around it to mask the energy signal. The still-frozen Megatron is moved into this facility, and is reverse engineered to further advance human technology.

Producers Don Murphy and Tom DeSanto developed the film, and Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman wrote the script, aiming for a realistic interpretation of the characters. Though not a Transformers fan, Bay was convinced by Spielberg to direct, and he created an intricate design aesthetic for the computer-generated robots. General Motors and the United States military lent their support during filming, to keep the budget under $150 million. Armed with an enormous marketing campaign including comics, toys and tie-in deals, Transformers opened in the United States on July 2, 2007, and broke the box office record for the highest-grossing opening week for a non-sequel. Critics praised the special effects, but criticized the characterization. A sequel is expected for release in 2009.
