Lee Child, whose Jack Reacher novels were adapted for two Tom Cruise movies, says he's signed a deal to adapt his novels for the small screen. Child says that Cruise, who starred in 2012's Jack Reacher and 2016's Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, won't reprise his role as a nomadic former U.S. Army major and won't star in the potential TV series. Child says he wants the TV Jack Reacher to be more like the imposing, burly character from his books. “Cruise, for all his talent, didn’t have that physicality,” Child tells BBC News. "I really enjoyed working with Cruise. He’s a really, really nice guy. We had a lot of fun. But ultimately the readers are right. The size of Reacher is really, really important and it’s a big component of who he is… So what I’ve decided to do is – there won’t be any more movies with Tom Cruise. Instead we’re going to take it to Netflix or something like that. Long-form streaming television, with a completely new actor.” He adds:  “We’re rebooting and starting over and we’re going to try and find the perfect guy.” The proposed Jack Reacher series will be pitched to networks and streaming services.

The Doctor is skipping the traditional Christmas special in favor of a New Year's Day special. “We’re thrilled to be starting the New Year with a bang, as Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor and friends face a terrifying alien threat in an action-packed, hour long special adventure for all the family," said showrunner Chris Chibnall.

The Stormy Daniels attorney, who became a cable news fixture earlier this year, was taken into custody after a woman with "visible injuries" filed a criminal complaint. "Lisa will appear in the majority of episodes this season," a production source tells E! News. "She has not been filming at every event, but fans can expect to see her throughout. The show will return to Bravo in early 2019." Vanderpump has been a part of the Bravo reality show since its 2010 debut. Bravo and Vanderpump have yet to confirm her exit.

Discovery Live: Into The Blue Hole will air on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT. The special, which will air live globally, will delve into the massive Blue Hole 46 miles off the coast of Belize.

The HBO comedy is now scheduled to begin production on its sixth and "possibly final" season next summer, according to TVLine. Silicon Valley executive producer Alec Berg's work as executive producer of HBO's Barry is the cause of the delay. “As Alec is a showrunner on both Barry and Silicon Valley, the schedule was structured to allow Alec to wrap on Barry before starting work on Silicon Valley," said an HBO spokesperson. TVLine notes that the decision comes amid speculation that Season 6 could be the last for Silicon Valley, although an official decision has yet to be made. The production delay will take Silicon Valley out of the Emmy race next year for the first time after being nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series each of its past five seasons.

Steve Bodow, who has served as an executive producer on The Daily Show for the last five years -- from the last two years of Jon Stewart's tenure to the first three years of Trevor Noah -- is exiting the Comedy Central series after working on it in various behind-the-scenes jobs for more than 16 years. Bodow is one of four executive producers, along with Noah, helping oversee the creative aspects of the show. There are no plans to replace him after he leaves in early 2019.

Harvey notes that SNL cast members rarely become bigger than the show. And when they do, they usually leave. "All this means that for much of this season, the show—and maybe more importantly in 2018, the post-show coverage—has revolved around Pete Davidson," says Harvey. "And not Pete Davidson, the sketch performer: Pete Davidson, the persona. It’s hard to predict where Davidson might go from here; maybe by the end of the season, Davidson will join Eddie Murphy as the only current cast members to host Saturday Night Live."

Longtime Game of Thrones director David Nutter offered some final season tidbits Tuesday in a Reddit Ask Me Anything. “Season 8 episodes will all I think be longer than 60 minutes," he wrote. "They’ll be dancing around the bigger numbers, I know that for sure." Nutter also confirmed that there was no paper on set to prevent any leaks. He also revealed the Red Wedding, which he directed, is nothing compared to the final season battle. "As far as season 8 compared to the Red Wedding I just have to tell you – hang onto your seat cause it’s going to be special," he wrote. The streaming service has begun working on two shows that would share a universe based on Martin's Wild Cards book series, with writer Andrew Miller penning both series. The Wild Cards franchise is, according to The Hollywood Reporter, "a shared universe of anthologies, mosaic novels and stand-alone stories written by a collection of authors and edited by Martin and co-editor (Melinda) Snodgrass." The first book was published in 1987, with 27 total books released so far. The book series explores the aftermath of an alien virus, called the "Wild Card" virus, released over Manhattan in 1946 that killed 90 percent of those it infected.

The late singer's estate was very agreeable with this week's Prince tribute episode, especially since creator Kenya Barris and one of the music supervisors already had a connection. Plus, Yara Shahidi's dad was once Prince's photographer. Did the show have to pay a lot of money to use Prince's songs? "I don’t know how the numbers worked, but I don’t think we had to pay extra for this song or that song," says showrunner Kenny Smith. "Like, 'Purple Rain' didn’t cost more than 'Sexy MF.' I just knew we got the budget and it was impossible, so we had to cut another six songs out of it to make the budget."
