It just won a contract to provide a dual play of video and wireless to Golden Nugget's Rush Tower 25-story addition.

Under the terms of the agreement, Cox Business will provide a host of standard/high-definition, video on demand video services in addition to wireless Internet connectivity.

In addition to providing video and data services, Cox Business/Hospitality plans to deploy its iGuest system at the Golden Nugget. Unlike the standard paper-and-ink guestbook found in a typical hotel room, iGuestbook provides hotel guests with a portal to various services that can be viewed on the guestroom TV set and controlled by the TV remote.
Although Cox Business has proven its ability to provide HFC and fiber-based Ethernet and IP services, the latest deal with Golden Nugget and other hotels in Las Vegas illustrates how the hospitality business has become a major vertical market target for the MSO. A key element of Cox's hospitality strategy is providing video services. Cox Business' success in Las Vegas prompted Cox Business to target national and regional hotel chains throughout all of its markets with its video services.

source: http://www.fiercetelecom.com/story/cox-business-wires-las-vegas-golden-nugget-casino/2009-12-21

The Future Of The Hospitality Industry

For others, it is one full of wonder and possibilities. For the hospitality industry, it can be either one depending on your viewpoint. So many advancements have been made in our lives in such a short period of time that being able to stay on top of all the changes can be a little overwhelming. However, if you embrace the change that is to come and see it for the comforts and conveniences, the future becomes an all right place. And you might as well make the most of it, because it’s coming with or without your consent. That’s why the hospitality industry is already harnessing the power of change to bring about a better experience for its customers.

Here are four ways the future of the hospitality industry will change for the better:

Social networking: Facebook, My Space, Twitter, and Bebo – these are just a few of the social networks out there that have changed the way we live. Through them, we have been able to reconnect with our first loves and share our special moments as well as our thoughts and opinions. It is with this latter reality that the hospitality industry can grow. Through viral marketing, hospitality businesses can grow or die based on reputation quicker and better than ever before – scary if you’re not putting your best foot forward, but exponentially successful if you do your best to make sure ever customer’s experience is the best that it can be.

Customization: Priceline, Expedia – these are only a couple of the technological tools that average citizens have at their disposal when it comes to customizing their vacation or holiday experience. In the future, customization options will only get more specific with patrons being able to choose and automate lighting, music, temperature, and texture, to make their hotel stays all the more comfortable and relaxing.

Streamlined conveniences: Wi-fi connections, a variety of gadgets and gizmos, even fingerprint identification for accessing your room – all these conveniences are either realities or about to become realities. Imagine not having to carry a room key card anymore, but being able to come and go as you please with only a fingerprint to keep up with. You can even make point-of-sale purchases through your unique identification. And don’t worry about someone stealing your information when you ARE the information.

Intuitive menus: Imagine being able to have more choices beyond what the chef has on the menu. You will be able to customize your eating options based on dietary needs, medical conditions, and, of course, personal preferences. Whether it is for health or for pleasure, a whole new way to dine lies ahead!
The future is not always certain, but when it comes to the future of the hospitality industry one thing is certain: the changes that come will benefit the customer. And when the customer is happy, so are the businesses within the industry. Embrace the change ahead, and reap the benefits of an exciting new world!

source: http://www.articlebuster.com/2009/12/the-future-of-the-hospitality-industry/

TeleAdapt Unleashes More Power to Hotels

With cell phones increasingly doubling as our lifelines, forgetting a charging cable can make one's heart sink, especially when you are on an extended trip. Hotels across the globe are encountering frustrated guests who are desperate to re-charge and re-connect. TeleAdapt, the global leader in hotel connectivity products, is pleased to announce an affordable, universal charging solution for hotels - the ChargeHub(TM)

Compatible with More Than 2,000 Mobile Devices

ChargeHub is a compact, mobile device charging station designed specifically for the hospitality industry. It comes equipped with 12 different device connectors, making ChargeHub compatible with most major cell phone brands used around the world. A female USB port extends the charging convenience to guests who bring their own cable, for charging Bluetooth(R) headsets, portable game consoles, and hundreds more USB powered devices.

'Convenient, universal power is and always will be a concern for hotels and their guests,' says Gordon Brown, TeleAdapt founder and CEO. 'A power outlet is just not enough when travellers forget their charging cables. With millions of guests checking in with cell phones that have cable requirements unique to each country, a universal charger like ChargeHub is the only feasible solution to service their charging needs.'

Designed Specifically for Hospitality
ChargeHub has been designed to address the specific challenges hotels face when catering to a global audience. It provides the power, it provides the cable and it's designed to fit within any room configuration.

ChargeHub's design works well in a guestroom environment or installed in the business center and meeting room space. Four screw holes allow the unit to be secured in place anywhere in the room. Choose to install ChargeHub on a desktop, on the side of a desk, or built into a drawer for a more hidden application. An instructional decal is affixed to the top to conceal the screws and create a seamless look.

'TeleAdapt prides itself in its keen sense in identifying the complications inherent in hotel technology,' continues Brown. 'Our products offer the convenience, affordability, flexibility, and ease of installation that make sense for hoteliers and guests alike. That's why we chose ChargeHub as the right solution for this real, everyday problem.'

For over 17 years, TeleAdapt has been developing hotel technology products designed to improve guest satisfaction during every hotel stay, including easier connections to the Internet, reliable Wi-Fi access, and, with ChargeHub, convenient universal power.

More information on TeleAdapt's new ChargeHub as well as their other connectivity devices for the hospitality industry can be found at www.teleadapt.com.

About TeleAdapt - Keeping Your World Connected
TeleAdapt is the world's innovator in designing guestroom products that help hotels keep their guests connected. As Sol Meliá continues to expand its brand worldwide, EZYield.com has become the preferred channel management tool for the diverse collection of brands under the Sol Meliá umbrella.

“We have a very diverse group of properties that use EZYield.com, and we are completely satisfied because it is a very practical tool with a fast R.O.I.,” stated Fernando Vives, director of revenue management for Sol Meliá. “The beauty of the EZYield.com technology is that the functionality exists for our revenue managers to use the many features of the yielding system in the way that suits them best.”

Designed specifically for revenue managers, EZYield.com provides an array of intuitive features that save time through quick and simple interfaces. Manual data entry has been reduced from hours of redundant work to a few simple mouse clicks. By using the EZYield.com platform, Sol Meliá management has more time to focus on their strategy of increasing brand awareness, as the system has eliminated the need for spending hours each day on mathematical computation and data entry for each third party channel.

“EZYield.com not only saves time for our revenue managers, but helps me delegate to non-revenue managers due to the safeguards built into the system, like the Minimum and Maximum Rate Inventory feature,” continued Fernando Vives.

It is safeguards and proprietary features such as this that have made EZYield.com the channel management solution of choice for more hotels and brands worldwide than any other yielding technology.

“Fernando is spot-on when he talks about the simplicity and competency that our clients gain from using our system to do their distribution. That is the foundation on which we built EZYield.com,” stated Ed St. Onge, CEO of EZYield.com. “And though we will continue adding features that make yielding more efficient and intuitive, we are also focusing on proactive and reactive systems to aggregate online bookings and updating OTAs; further differentiating EZYield.com from our competitors by providing the most advanced and most efficient technology in the hospitality industry.”

TengoInternet Expands Role in RV Park Industry

A major consolidation of the wireless Internet or Wi-Fi business has taken place this month with TengoInternet Inc. announcing that it has acquired NomadISP, its former Wi-Fi rival in the outdoor hospitality industry.

The acquisition combines NomadISP’s 300 plus campground customers with TengoInternet’s 450 private park customers, making TengoInternet the largest high-speed Wi-Fi service provider in the private park sector.

“I think the acquisition is going to work out very well,” said Kelly Hogan, president and CEO of Boise, Idaho-based LinOra Inc., after selling the company’s NomadISP subsidiary to Austin, Texas-based TengoInternet.

While NomadISP has always marketed itself as a full service Wi-Fi provider, Hogan said the company’s biggest strength has been in the manufacturing of state-of-the-art Wi-Fi equipment, including routers and access points or “hot spots”

“We’ve always written our own software and built our own access points,” Hogan said. “Because of that, we have offered a more fine tuned Wi-Fi solution for the outdoor hospitality industry.”

So while TengoInternet has acquired NomadISP’s campground industry customers as well as the NomadISP brand name, Hogan will continue to independently operate his Wi-Fi equipment manufacturing business, which he now operates through a separate LinOra subsidiary called BlueMesh Networks.

TengoInternet, for its part, has excelled in the marketing and customer service arenas and has purchased whatever Wi-Fi equipment has needed from different suppliers, including NomadISP. “Over the last year, it became apparent to TengoInternet that NomadISP’s equipment offers an advantage for campgrounds and RV parks,” said Eric Stumberg, TengoInternet’s president and CEO. “To provide the best equipment to our customers, TengoInternet entered into a strategic alliance to resell LinOra’s BlueMesh Networks’ Wi-Fi hardware products.”

“I think our new business relationship is going to work out very well,” Hogan said. “TengoInternet will be our largest customer, while we at BlueMesh will continue to do research and development to further improve our Wi-Fi systems.”

Stumberg said campground and RV park customers of NomadISP should receive improved customer service from TengoInternet, which offers live 24/7 customer support to consumers. TengoInternet also offers onsite support and dedicated phone support for campground staffers who have Wi-Fi related questions between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Central time.

In addition, TengoInternet provides its campground customers with user guides and other collateral that they can keep on hand at their front desk for guests who need help using Wi-Fi. “Our goal is to minimize distractions related to Wi-Fi at the front desk,” Stumberg said.

TengoInternet continues to experience growth in Wi-Fi equipment sales and installations and now managing network services. “The big challenge people are experiencing now is managing bandwidth and guest experience,” Stumberg said. “With Voice over IP service applications like Skype and Magic Jack, the Wi-Fi networks have to accommodate huge demand and expectations. Our managed bandwidth and authentication services are addressing this challenge.”

Another factor driving Wi-Fi service demand is the GuestReviews program operated by the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC), which campground guests can use to offer their opinions about the quality of Wi-Fi service they encounter at private parks.

“It’s hard for park operators to discount the feedback they receive from guests who say, ‘Yes. We stayed there. It’s a great place. But their Wi-Fi is terrible,’ ” Stumberg said, adding that private park operators are realizing that the quality of their Wi-Fi service alone can make the difference between receiving an “A” or a “B” in GuestReviews surveys.

“If you don’t offer high quality Wi-Fi,” Stumberg said, “people will drive away.”

Private parks are also increasingly using Wi-Fi technology for other applications, he said, including portable credit card readers, ATMs, gaming systems, utility data processors and video surveillance cameras.

source
http://www.woodallscm.com/2009/12/tengointernet-expands-role-in-rv-park-industry/

SolutionInc Licenses Patented Hospitality Gateway Technology to Single Digits for Industry-Leading Business Access Portal

Historically, Wi-Fi has suffered from erratic performance and the inability to cope with interference and other obstacles that degrade performance. New innovative, patented Wi-Fi technologies, developed by Ruckus Wireless, effectively eliminate these problems.

"Our plan was always to deliver IP-based VOD to the TVs in our guest rooms at the Hotel Palomar," said Donald OGrady, director of property technology at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. "During the project, we decided to move to the wireless VOD solution. Based on a pilot test of the solution, we knew it worked. This was a fairly easy choice for us."

Whether a renovation, a new development or an existing property, the benefits of Ruckus Wireless Smart Wi-Fi solutions include the elimination of cabling, greater flexibility to deliver services anywhere throughout a hotel while minimizing disruptions that might otherwise require shutting down rooms for days or weeks for hotel in operation. For existing hotels without cabling and with limited budgets, Ruckus solutions can bring guests the latest and greatest video applications and content cost effectively

Media Contacts
Bill Jeppesen
Ruckus Wireless
bill.jeppesen@ruckuswireless.com
+1-408-598-2085

SOURCE Ruckus Wireless

LodgeNet Announces First Installation of High-Definition Free-to-Guest (HD FTG) Solutions in Canada

Described as “a gentle evolution”, the gradual transition from Radisson SAS to Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts has been handled with the same care and collective calm as the color represented in the new name.

Otrum partners with Rezidor on Radisson Blu identity program.

The Rezidor Hotel Group, which operates the Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, has worked closely with OTRUM, Europe's leading full-service provider of in-room TV technology and guest services for the hospitality industry, to ensure that guests are just as carefully exposed to the new brand and begin to identify with it.

“Our values, beliefs, ambitions, people, and high-quality hotel services remain the same and so does the blue box that differentiates us as the market leader in the upper upscale segment,” explains David Dreschner, Vice President of Corporate Purchasing Services for Rezidor. “The brand name, however, is new and we want to correctly portray our new image, design and the contemporary design experience right from the moment our guests step into a Radisson Blu hotel and into their room.”

OTRUM’s graphics team worked closely with Rezidor to create a common visual theme for all Radisson Blu hotels that would improve the presentation of information to the guest and, at the same time, nourish the brand image.

“We had to balance background themes and screens that were true to the Radisson Blu brand-image,” says Kay Sperre, OTRUM’s Senior Visual Designer. “The added challenge was to customize these guest interfaces in ways that would have the same look and feel regardless of whether they were seen as background pages on legacy systems or multi-media videos on high-definition screens.”

The final design incorporated the classic topography and fresh image of the Radisson Blu chain with a simple-yet-elegant layout that emphasized ease of readability, accessibility and use. The result takes full advantage of the OTRUM Evolution Marketing Solution, a system with multimedia functionality for guest communication and targeted advertising. “We hope,” says Sperre, “that the Rezidor-OTRUM collaboration has created a fun, engaging user experience for Radisson Blu hotel guests.”

Rezidor, one of the world’s fastest growing hotel companies, and OTRUM now plan to turn their attention to customizing and updating guest interfaces for other Rezidor brands including Regent International Hotels, Park Inn and their newest contemporary life-style, luxury hotel concept, Hotel Missoni.

David Dreschner concludes, “Rezidor is known worldwide as a leader in providing hotels, owners and guests with innovative, trend-setting, effective solutions. OTRUM has been a key partner in helping us achieve this reputation. We expect to continue to work together to maintain it.”

About OTRUM ASA

OTRUM is a leading provider of interactive TV solutions and content to the hospitality industry.

WiFi mobile phones are increasingly used in hotels. In lobbies, guest rooms and conference areas, guests want to update their email, Podcasts, music and video libraries easily and instantly without incurring roaming charges. The new Swisscom enabled Smartphone WiFi service responds to these needs. Fully integrated with the hotel’s property management system (PMS), it enables guests to connect seamlessly and hoteliers to promote their own services through their guests’ preferred devices.

Travellers increasingly depend on their Smartphones to connect into their own environments in favour of using their laptops. During meetings or waiting times in hotel lobbies, guests stream their news or communicate over applications such as Skype® on their handhelds. As a network operator, Swisscom has seen bandwidth consumed through WiFi mobile phones rise constantly. Although download volumes are traditionally lower than those for laptops, the gap is closing very quickly. The average volume per handheld session recorded at Swisscom partner hotels is currently at 86MB, with many users going over 1GB. The average length of session is 14 hours.

Get online in three clicks only

The new service allows users to connect to the Internet in only three clicks. Once logged on, the guest can stay connected for 24 hours at a time. If he leaves the building, he is automatically re-connected when he comes back into the hotel. Wireless PMS integration enables a personalized user interface, seamless data processing and invoicing through the guest’s room bill. Offering unlimited uploads and downloads at WiFi broadband speed, the new Swisscom service provides a superior experience at a competitive price.

Swisscom’s new Smartphone WiFi service has been optimized for iPhones, Symbian phones such as the ones from Nokia, Google Androids and Windows Mobile devices. It is presently available in more than 1’100 partner locations across Europe and ready for rollout across Europe.

Smartphones keep you in touch with home

“More and more guests want to use their smartphones to access the Internet in our hotel,” says Gordon Barker, Sales and Marketing Manager at Danesfield House Hotel and Spa, a Swisscom partner hotel near London Heathrow. “The mobile phone is more than just a device to make calls with, it also allows you to listen to your favourite music, chat to friends, send a quick photo of the breakfast buffet to relatives back home, so ultimately you never feel far away from your friends and family. Thanks to Swisscom, we will now be able to meet these requirements.”

“The rise of the Smartphone reconfirms the long-term value of our wireless hotel technology”, comments Leo Brand, CEO of Swisscom Hospitality Services. “In addition to providing connectivity to the guest, we can assist hotels in promoting their own services through customized applications. We are actively working with hotel chains on specific applications as well as on new, competitive functionalities for both hoteliers and guests to leverage the numerous possibilities of employing Smartphones in the hotel space.”
Press Release Contact Details:

Swisscom Hospitality Services www.swisscom.com/hospitality Contact: Jane Newick/Alex Vinall, The Wordbox Group, Tel 01483 562244/07711 611415, jane@thewordbox.com, alex@thewordbox.com

Cox Checks In HD For Hotel Customers

"The service implementation was simple and meets the entertainment needs of our guests. Cox's high definition free-to-guest solution is something all hotels should consider as an additional amenity."

Cox delivers Pro:Idiom-encrypted HD feeds, which are compliant with premium channel content security requirements and the TV set standard that the hospitality industry has adopted. The Pro:Idiom standard allows the channels to be delivered without set-tops or other equipment in each guest room.

The cable operator has two methods to deliver the encrypted feeds to the hotel. In most markets, Cox installs special headend equipment at the hotel site. In some cases, the encryption is done at the Cox location and the special video feeds are delivered via fiber to hotels.

source: http://www.multichannel.com/article/389773-Cox_Checks_In_HD_For_Hotel_Customers.php

Concord Hospitality Selects EnGenius Long Range Wireless Access Point, the ECB-3500, as Product of Choice for Wifi Services to Guests

After careful consideration, Concord chose the ECB-3500, a high-powered, long range wireless access point that can connect to any given wireless network and efficiently expand the signal to reach all guest rooms within a facility.

Wireless Access Point

"We are very pleased to partner with Concord in their efforts to grow their wireless internet service. The ECB-3500 is an excellent choice as it was specifically designed with the hospitality industry in mind. It can send a clear, fast, uninterrupted, wireless signal over a large area, even in the largest of hotel buildings," said Roger Chien, Product Manager of EnGenius Technologies Inc.
According to Jacob Williams, I.T. Department Manager at Concord Hospitality, the long range wifi capability and the competitive price point of the ECB-3500 were the main reasons it was chosen as the standard for their hotels.

The ECB-3500 wireless access point can provide strong, continued coverage at up to 108 Mbps over a wide-area using 600mW of wireless output power. Along with the high-powered, super G standard, the ECB-3500 uses QoS (Quality of Service) which allows it to handle multiple streams of throughput or large data transmissions simultaneously without slow-downs, pauses or interruptions in service.

Other notable features of the ECB-3500 include:

* Dual High-Gain Detachable Antennas - increases sensitivity with diversity technology.
* Multiple Wireless Names (SSIDs) - permits different access levels within one wireless network.
* Multi-Functional Device (7 modes of use) - configurable for multiple uses in different wireless network topologies.
* Power-Over-Ethernet - combines the power and data over one cable for ease of installation.

The ECB-3500 has the capability to turn an entire hotel into a wifi hotspot - ready to handle any and all guest networking needs from anywhere in the hotel. This flexibility will enhance the marketability of Concord's facilities by aligning their amenities with the business traveler's growing need for wireless internet connectivity.

"Another reason we chose this particular EnGenius model was for the PoE feature. Our hotels already have cabling for all of their internal systems; such as electric, telephones, television and data. The ECB-3500's PoE feature makes it possible for us to install a new wireless access point at any RJ45 network jack without having to change or reconfigure any electrical wiring. This makes the ECB-3500 much easier to install in operating hotels that can't afford the burden of massive renovations or guest interruption," adds Williams.

In addition, with the ECB3500 long range wireless router, Concord has the option to use the Multiple Wireless Names (SSIDs) within each hotel to separate their associates' network from the guest network. Each ECB-3500 can handle up to four named networks which can segregate one set of users from another. This simplifies wireless network management, provides added security and creates multiple virtual networks with only one set of networking equipment.

The ECB-3500 wireless access point is already being used in 23 of Concord's hotel properties across the U.S. and Canada with plans to deploy over 150 more ECB-3500's to 7 new hotels over the next 6 months and more than 300 over the next year.

For addition information about the ECB3500 or other EnGenius products, please visit www.EnGeniustech.com.

For additional information about Concord Hospitality Enterprises Company, please visit http://www.concordhotels.com/

About EnGenius Technologies
EnGenius Technologies is a global technology innovator specializing in long-range telephone, data and VoIP communications. (NYSE: WM), today announced the first recycling program for hotel operators to responsibly dispose of outdated television sets and computer monitors.

In 2010 alone, hundreds of hotels are expected to upgrade thousands of rooms with energy-efficient LG flat-panel digital TVs, which will displace older analog picture tube TVs. To support this growing trend, LG Electronics will now offer environmentally conscious hotel, motel and resort operators a convenient, cost-effective opportunity for recycling the obsolete hotel TVs.

Under this new program planned for launch in 2010, LG Electronics would facilitate the recycling process through Waste Management’s subsidiary WM Recycle America LLC. In addition to offering the TV and monitor-recycling program, LG would assist hoteliers in working with WM to recycle the packaging from the new LG flat-panel HDTVs and computer monitors being installed in their properties.

"This program will encourage hotel operators to dispose of outdated electronics in an environmentally responsible manner," said Teddy Hwang, president, LG Electronics USA, which established its successful nationwide electronics-recycling program for consumers with Waste Management over a year ago. This initiative "further supports LG’s global sustainability initiative that also encompasses energy conservation, reduction of hazardous substances and responsible product designs," he noted.

The Executive Director of the National Center for Electronics Recycling, Jason Linnell, called the LG hotel TV recycling concept "a significant new development" in the E-Waste arena. "Most voluntary and state-mandated efforts across the country have been focused on consumer recycling efforts. So, when you think of the millions of analog TVs being replaced in hotels across the country, this approach is particularly noteworthy. We urge hotel operators to take advantage of these kinds of opportunities."

The program will leverage Waste Management’s national network of over 200 recycling centers throughout the United States. The hotel TVs and computer monitors collected under this program will be processed in an environmentally responsible manner at one of four regionally designated Waste Management recycling facilities that are ISO 14001 and 9001 certified to protect the local environment in those communities along with the people handling this waste. Waste Management is also committed to the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s R2 Standards for the management of electronic waste.

"As the lodging industry seeks to increase its environmentally conscious initiatives, the LG program gives hotel operators the opportunity to conveniently recycle electronic waste responsibly and economically," said Patrick DeRueda, president of WM Recycle America. "This program also demonstrates our shared commitment to providing outstanding customer service and leadership in environmental stewardship as well as helping us towards one of our sustainability goals of nearly tripling the amount of recyclables we process by 2020."

DeRueda said LG’s hotel TV recycling solution, the latest in a series of manufacturer and retailer agreements with WM Recycle America, could have sweeping benefits. "By recycling used, unwanted, obsolete or damaged electronic equipment, useful materials such as glass, metals and plastics may be recovered for reuse in other products," he said. "Reuse minimizes the amount of waste disposed, while also reducing the amount of raw materials extracted as well as energy required to make new materials. Additionally, material reuse reduces the production of greenhouse gases."

"This means hotel operators, together with LG and Waste Management, can do their part to improve recycling and reduce the environmental impact of waste products," added LG’s Hwang. "The explosive growth of electronics products over the years, coupled with the rapid replacement of millions of analog TVs as consumers and hotels upgrade to flat-panel HDTVs underscores the need for companies like LG to help provide responsible end-of-life solutions."

About LG Electronics USA

LG Electronics USA, Inc., based in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., is the North American subsidiary of LG Electronics, Inc., a $45 billion global force and technology leader in home appliances, consumer electronics and mobile communications.

By Sarah Reedy

180Squared has teamed up with carrier Ethernet provider MBO Video to offer an IPTV managed service, dubbed Cirrus Managed Cloud Solutions. The companies will establish a shared installation of IPTV middleware among multiple entities, beginning with hotels and hospitality providers, while keeping each individuals back-end systems separate.

180Squared, formed in April 2008 to focus on billing/operational support systems or IPTV deployments based on Microsoft Mediaroom, announced last week that it would expand its support to any middleware platform. As part of that, its also looking to expand into new verticals hotels, casinos and other hospitality services being the first. MBO Video is using 180Squareds Unison platform to do so.

Unison is the ability to turn any installation of a video platform into a cloud-based service, said Amir Littman, vice president of business development for 180Squared. Not from an over-the-top perspective, but providing the service provider a method to provide service to another service provider. That is revolutionary. Not only can they provide other service providers service, they now can leverage the same technology to go into hotels and hospitality, which is something theyve never been able to touch.

Sharing the infrastructure will help these companies reduce the costs of deploying IPTV, according to Littman. Based on Mediaroom, the platform gives providers access to the companys applications, including caller ID, remote personal video recorder (PVR) scheduling and whole-home PVR, as well as ongoing maintenance support. By sharing the installation duties, Littman said it can reduce the capital expenditures and operating expenses for service providers looking to enter the market.

The main adaptation made for the hotel and hospitality business is that real-time billing events are key for short-term subscribers. Billing has to be up-to-date the second a consumer makes a purchase, Littman said. 180Squared divides the middleware into logical units, or sites, in which it can handle all the billing and management integration independently, but from the same back end. The sites are also branded for that individual hotel or company, and 180Squared ensures there is no crossover contamination in which one users name would show up on anothers bill, Littman said.

The reason that middlewares dont normally handle this today is because they dont have to, Littman said. Typically a service provider has one middleware that just has to service the subscribers that subscribe to that service, and they dont have to deal with segmentation. Now we have a message that I can expand on that and provide service to other operators that now have that level of expectation.

Littman said that IPTV providers and new entrants have been interested in this proposition because their business plan has only included their existing TV subscribers. Unison doesnt require additional servers, infrastructure or licensing to get it up and running, so they see it and any additional revenue it might provide as icing on the cake, he said.

source: http://telephonyonline.com/residential_services/news/180squared-iptv-service-1103/

SuiteLinq Deploys Industry-First IPVOD Solution at Philadelphia's New Palomar Hote

With this new agreement, the companies will embed LodgeNet's
patented b-LAN technology into their television sets, enabling the delivery of
a wide range of interactive content and functionality on a more cost effective
basis - including centralized free-to-guest (FTG) channel management, video on
demand content and interactive guest services. In addition to the agreements
with LG and Philips, LodgeNet is also negotiating with other consumer
electronics companies to make its b-LAN technology available.

"Licensing our unique technology is a win-win proposition for hoteliers, our
technology partners, and LodgeNet," said Scott E. Young, President of
Hospitality for LodgeNet Interactive. "Integrating our b-LAN technology as
part of new television sets will eliminate the cost of purchasing and
installing external communications hardware in the room, significantly
lowering the total cost of ownership for hoteliers implementing HD television
services. This new arrangement will add value to TV manufacturers' product
lines, and will streamline installation, service and support for their
hospitality customers. And from LodgeNet's perspective, these new agreements
will result in a significant operating advantage by creating a large base of
"LodgeNet Ready" locations where we can deliver new interactive television
services on a significantly improved cost basis."

LG Electronics, which signed the first license agreement in June, has shipped
tens of thousands of hospitality HDTVs with embedded LodgeNet b-LAN
technology, according to Richard Lewis, Senior Vice President of Research &
Technology for LG Electronics USA Business Solutions, who called b-LAN "a key
to reducing total cost of ownership" for hotel operators. "As hoteliers
continue looking for ways to both enhance the guest experience and control
costs, we are proud to be delivering commercial display solutions today that
incorporate the communications technology that has been proven in hotel
environments for more than 20 years through slide-in cards and set-back
boxes."

"The current economic climate underscores the need for hospitality solutions
that make sense not only for the guest, but also for the hotel in terms of
total cost of ownership," said Tom Parham, Senior Vice President and General
Manager of Philips Hospitality Americas, a division of Royal Philips
Electronics. "Having LodgeNet's b-LAN technology integrated in our
televisions allows Philips to better serve the hospitality industry by
reducing overall system costs and increasing ease of use."

LodgeNet's b-LAN technology is the most widely deployed, cost effective
communications solution enabling TVs to be centrally managed as networked
devices rather than unconnected stand-alone units. This unique technology
allows hotels and providers to manage TV configuration without a visit to each
room and can enable a variety of other applications requiring communication to
the TV set.

Representatives from Philips and LG will be participating in panel discussions
at the 2nd Annual LodgeNet Customer Technology Symposium, being held on
October 27-29 at The Ritz-Carlton Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia. The event -
"Technology Innovation and the Guest Experience: New Opportunities and New
Business Models" - will feature presentations and panel discussions focusing
on the operational, financial and guest service implications of current and
emerging hospitality technologies. The new Audio/Video Pull-Through connects iPods and iPhones to the in-room TV so guests can watch their downloaded video and movies in high quality on the flat screen TV, as well as listen to their own music through the in-room TV speakers.

TeleAdapt will be demonstrating the Audio/Video Pull-Through at their IHM&RS exhibit, booth #3167, to hoteliers looking for an inexpensive way to give their guests iPod connectivity that goes beyond the audio-only clock radio dock.

“The trend to provide connections for iPods and iPhones is evidenced by the explosion of iPod docking stations in the hotel room,” says Gordon Brown, TeleAdapt CEO. “The iPod clock radio limits hotel guests to audio-only playback. Travelers have more than just music stored on their iPods. Wouldn’t it be exciting to offer each guest a way to watch their movies and videos from their iPod or iPhone on the big flat panel TV?”

The new Audio/Video Pull-Through comes equipped with the following:

? An Apple-specific cable for audio and video playback
? iPod-specific 30pin connector dock faces the guest for connecting an iPod or iPhone
? Back-end cables connect to the composite audio/video ports on the in-room TV
? These connections allow audio playback through the in-room TV surround sound speakers as well as video playback for watching movies and video through the in-room TV screen
? Weighted base that holds the cable in place
? Acrylic DeskCard insert holder for guest/user instructions

With pricing starting at $49.00 each, the Audio/Video Pull-Through is an affordable alternative to a full MediaHub, an all-in-one connectivity panel that allows guests to enjoy personal audio and video content from any portable device through the in-room TV.

“Hoteliers facing budget constraints need to consider the Audio/Video Pull-Through as a low-cost next generation iPod docking station for their guestrooms,” adds Brown. “Audio and video playback for their iPod or iPhone is a value-add amenity that will leave a lasting impression on many hotel guests.”

TeleAdapt helps hotel properties around the world bring their rooms to life with products that enhance the in-room entertainment experience for their guests. For more information on TeleAdapt’s full range of connectivity devices for the hospitality industry, visit www.teleadapt.com or call (877) 835-3232.

About TeleAdapt
TeleAdapt is the world’s innovator in designing guestroom products that help hotels keep their guests connected. ("Vecima") (TSX: VCM), the Last Mile Solution® for broadband wired and wireless networks, today announced that its Terrace MDU Gateway has received a 5 Diamond rating in this years BGR Diamond Technology Review. Additionally, Vecima's Terrace QAM Hospitality Gateway has received a 4 Diamond rating. Scores of 3 or above are considered outstanding and reflect a very positive opinion from the panel.
"Vecima Networks' Terrace MDU gateway garnered a stellar response from the Diamond Technology Reviews judges who reviewed it," Laura Hamilton, editor-in-chief at BGR, says. "They pointed out that application in the MDU and hospitality arena makes a lot of sense because it avoids the large upfront cash outlays and operational complexities associated with providing digital terminal adapters for every unit or TV set in the MDU, campus, hotel or hospital."

"The Diamonds panelists who reviewed Vecima Networks' Terrace QAM hospitality gateway gave it excellent scores and described it as having the ability to solve some huge problems that exist for cable operators looking to expand their reach into hotels. Given that the Terrace QAM product uses the existing CableCARD standard to solve the problem of bulk decryption, the judges saw it as a great solution that could help open up a market that was previously very difficult -- even impossible in some cases -- to enter," Hamilton says.

About the Terrace MDU Gateway

The Terrace MDU gateway is a multi-channel MDU gateway designed to reclaim analog bandwidth all the way to the outer edge of the cable network including multi-dwelling units or household service groups. Terrace enables the transition to all-digital operation across a cable operator's entire network, maximizing the value of existing infrastructure by dramatically expanding high quality digital services while preserving basic analog cable services to subscribers. Utilizing breakthrough technology, Terrace tunes and demodulates up to 16 QAM channels, decrypts and MPEG decodes 82 digital programs, and outputs 82 NTSC modulated analog video channels.

In the context of MDUs, Terrace allows MSOs to maintain and expand cable services to valued analog customers. Terrace reduces MSO capital and operational expense by eliminating the need to deploy excessive volumes of DTAs and set top boxes to convert digital signals into analog format. Traditionally, this type of conversion was done at the headend whereas Terrace does this conversion at the curb. Basic televisions will then be able to access the recreated multichannel service without the need for a DTA or set-top-box. This provides incredible leverage to MSOs to reduce churn rate and continue generating new revenue as the all-digital transition matures and remains seamless to customers.

Terrace offers the option to do ad insertion at the MDU. This becomes an invaluable potential source of revenue to MSOs and MDU operators, as this feature can easily be monetized for increasing profit margins (e.g. camera surveillance, paid advertising, community channel, etc.). Terrace is easy to install and maintain and allows effortless access to cable technicians.

The Terrace provides a single point of control for remote management of all services running through the unit and involves minimal installation (single wire in, single wire out) for main service plus 3 auxiliary ports for local content insertion.

About the Terrace QAM Hospitality Gateway

The Terrace QAM Hospitality Gateway is a multi-channel QAM to QAM transcryptor for use in the hospitality industry. Demodulated MPEG transport streams are decrypted by CableCARDs and then re-encrypted using Pro:Idiom(TM) technology. The encrypted MPEG transport streams are re-modulated and then delivered to the desired RF channel. The Terrace QAM can demodulate up to 64 QAM carriers, decrypt both SD & HD programs, and protect with Pro:Idiom(TM) hospitality encryption.

Terrace QAM is designed to provide cable system operators with market leading technology delivering both High Definition (HD) and Standard Definition (SD) digital video streams in a secure format connecting directly to newer flat panel TVs, eliminating the need for an additional Digital Set Top Box. The result is a cleaner and more reliable installation offering a broader range of video services and a simplified user experience. This new technology is highly desired by the hospitality industry, hospitals, schools, universities and other institutions because it streamlines infrastructure requirements and reduces costs.

The Terrace QAM removes the encryption standard barrier between cable and hospitality networks by converting the cable encryption standards to Pro:Idiom(TM) hospitality encryption, thus opening up the hospitality sector to cable MSOs at a modest cost. The fact that Terrace QAM converts the encryption to the Pro:Idiom(TM) standard will appeal to hotel operators who have deployed vast quantities of Pro:Idiom(TM) ready HD flat panels or are considering an investment in Pro:Idiom(TM) enabled televisions.

The Terrace QAM offers superior flexibility via its ability to demodulate up to 64 QAM channels, support up to 10 integrated CableCARDs, and handle SD and HD programming in a single chassis.

About Vecima Networks

Vecima Networks Inc. (TSX: VCM) designs, manufactures and sells products that enable broadband access to cable, wireless and telephony networks. Vecima's hardware products incorporate original embedded software to meet the complex requirements of next-generation, high-speed digital networks. Service providers use Vecima's solutions to deliver services to a converging worldwide broadband market, including what are commonly known as "triple play" (voice, video and data) and "quadruple play" (voice, video, data and wireless) services. Vecima's solutions allow service providers to rapidly and cost-effectively bridge the final network segment that connects the system directly to end users, commonly referred to as "the last mile", by overcoming the bottleneck resulting from insufficient carrying capacity in legacy, last mile infrastructures. Vecima's products are directed at two principal markets: Converged Wired Solutions and Broadband Wireless. The Company has also developed, and continues to focus on developing, products to address emerging markets such as Voice over Internet Protocol, fibre to the home and IP video.

Forward-Looking Statements

Certain statements in this news release may constitute forward-looking statements which involve known and unknown risks, uncertainties and other factors which may cause the actual results, performance or achievements of the Company, or industry results, to be materially different from any future results, performance or achievements expressed or implied by such forward-looking statements. Two leaders in technology and digital media solutions, ANTlabs and Infocomm, announced the launch of the latest InnGate 3 series for the MEA region.

ANTlabs is well-known as the market leader in hospitality high-speed internet gateways for global hotel groups, convention centres and airports and is also an R&D leader in enabling Telcos and service providers increase internet services revenue, while Knowledge Oasis Muscat-based Infocomm is the Gulf’s premier provider of converged WiFi and Mobile media solutions and services.

Through their strategic partnership, ANTlabs and Infocomm bring together best-of-breed solutions to allow service providers to maximize their internet revenue, and optimize their networks.

Commenting on ANTlabs, Karim Rahemtulla, Infocomm MD, said: “We’re proud to partner with ANTlabs, who have, over the last 10 years, established themselves as a market leader in the Far East for innovative networking solutions for Telco/ISP Infrastructure, the Hospitality Industry and Enterprise.

ANTlabs works with high-profile brands and government organizations who all choose ANTlabs' technology because it enables their businesses and services to create new revenue opportunities and secures the best possible user experience.”

Infocomm and ANTlabs have taken advantage of GITEX to showcase the new ANTlabs Inngate 3 with its special ‘Volume Control Module’ which is sure to be of tremendous interest to the region’s burgeoning hotel sector.

“Today’s travellers are ever more sophisticated and have higher and higher expectations,” explains Ang Kwang Tat, CEO of ANTlabs. “It doesn’t matter if a hotel guest is thousands of kilometers from his base – he expects to have access to the same facilities as when he’s at home or at his desk. A full array of telecoms services is expected as much as room service. In the competitive hospitality industry, providing HSIA to guests is no longer optional.”

“Through the special features of the Inngate 3 “Volume Control Module”, hotels can provide tailored HSIA for their guests – one that more exactly suits their needs whether they’re a high or low volume user.

At the same time, the hotel will be able to ensure an equitable distribution of bandwidth throughout the premises - ensuring an overall smoother service and better network experience.
