I've had a ton of fun writing this book, and can't wait for everyone to dive in! This one has a little something for everyone. Fans of my post-apocalyptic series CONTAMINATION and OUTAGE series will appreciate the characters, but Thriller/Horror fans will probably enjoy it, too.

One of my favorite authors growing up was (and still is) Dean Koontz. I'll never forget the first book I read by him—Twilight Eyes—about a young man who detects shape-shifting monsters. I always loved the way he blended Thrillers, Science Fiction, & Horror. While our plots are very different (and so are our writing styles), it feels like I channeled a little of his influence. I'd like to think my 14-year-old self would devour it by flashlight under the covers, long after being told to turn the lights out!

Review of 2024! Plans for 2025!

It's been a handful of years since I've done one of these posts, so I figured, why not? It's always nice to take stock of what we've accomplished in the previous year (as well as make plans for the upcoming one)! 2024 was a year of diversity and exploration for me. In addition to writing books, I branched out into a couple new artistic endeavors that I'm hoping to fully unveil in 2025!

But first...a recap of 2024! One of my major goals this past year was to branch out into foreign translations. I'm proud to say I succeeded! With the help of an amazing translator, Bobby (Adair) and I released the entire LAST SURVIVORS series in German, and I also released the first book of THE RUINS (with THE RUINS 2 right behind it). All books feature brand new covers. It was awesome to see DIE LETZTEN ÜBERLEBENDEN and DIE RUINEN reach new readers!

In addition, I released a few new short stories (LAST RESPONDER - An OUTAGE story) in January and KILLING TIME (featuring Charlie from Better Guns & Garden's "The Pursuer") in December. I also completed the third and final book in the ALIVE AGAIN trilogy, and boxed up the whole ALIVE AGAIN COMPLETE SERIES, releasing it in e-book, paperback, and audio!

I completed a few unreleased short stories as well—one called "Firsts and Lasts" and another called "Don't Take Truck 465"—both of which will see the light of day in BETTER GUNS & GARDENS 2 once I have twelve stories finished.

Over the summer, I joined a shared world project along with 15 other post-apocalyptic authors called RAVAGED SKIES, a solar flare EMP series that will release throughout 2025. My entry, FEAR THE DARK, is currently on pre-order!

In addition to writing books, I've been branching out into comics. Ever since I was a kid, I've been a huge fan of the medium. Over the past year and a half, I've been working with a handful of talented artists, colorists, and letterers to adapt one of my book series, OUTAGE, into comic form, as well as create an all-new anthology horror series. More info to come!

I've also been hard at work on a screenplay for a short film that will hopefully shoot this year, in 2025! We've got a whole crew involved in this one—complete with a practical special effects wizard, actors, and visual effects/sound people, as well as an amazing director! I'm super excited to get this story out into the world and tell you more!

I also played several concerts and shows with my two bands, which included traveling to NYC, Alabama, Toronto, and Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. On the writing front, I attended StokerCon 2024 in San Diego with my buddy L.C. Marino, as well as attended CT Horrorfest in September with my family. All in all, it was a crazy and diverse year, filled with sowing many seeds!

SO WHAT'S UP IN 2025?

On the book front, I'm hoping to get out at least one book in the FEAR THE DARK trilogy, which takes place in the RAVAGED SKIES universe.

I've also signed a contract with a publisher for another post-apocalyptic trilogy, so expect that to start appearing in 2025!

I'd also love to get BETTER GUNS & GARDENS 2 out (I've got more than half of the material ready). AND I'd really like to make some progress on a few horror standalone novels, plus release more foreign translations.

Lastly (but certainly not least), I'm hoping to announce the release of the aforementioned comic and movie projects in 2025! Both have been a blast, and I can't wait for you to check them out!

Way back in 2014 I wrote a short story called "Alive Again" for a zombie anthology called "The Gathering Horde". Although I was happy with the tale, I always felt there was more story to be told. Today marks the release of the 3rd and final book in the ALIVE AGAIN trilogy. I'm really proud of this one, and I hope that I gave the characters a proper send-off (no spoilers)!

REVIEW OF 2020! PLANS FOR 2021!

Hello everyone!

Back in the day, I used to post a recap of the closing year, as well as my plans for the new one. In checking my blog, I was surprised to find that it's been four years since I've made one of those posts. Time flies!

Undoubtedly, this has been a challenging year for everyone, and I (like many others) am looking forward to bringing 2020 to a close. Most of my family was fortunate enough to stay healthy and employed, but I realize that not everyone was so lucky. My thoughts go out to everyone who suffered hardships and losses. I have faith that 2021 will be better!

Despite everything 2020 threw in the way, I managed to get some new releases out this year. Most are new editions of backlist titles (primarily audiobooks), but I also managed to publish new words. This year, I completed the fourth and final book in the SANDSTORM series, published a brand new RUINS novella, and completed my first short story collection, BETTER GUNS & GARDENS! The latter has been on my "bucket list" of projects for a long time, so I was super excited to get that out into the world! Some of the stories have been in various states of draft since 2013, so it felt amazing to get them finished.

In addition to the 12 tales in BETTER GUNS & GARDENS, I completed an unpublished 13th story, "Rock Bottom", which will hopefully see the light of day soon. Who knows? I might include it as a bonus to newsletter subscribers, or perhaps it will make its way into a second collection.

SO WHAT'S COMING IN 2021?

I'm always hesitant to talk too much about upcoming projects, because things shuffle or change. But I'm in a rather unique position this upcoming year, as most of my current series are finished. That means that 2021 will be the year of new projects!

I've got at least two post-apocalyptic series I'd like to launch this year. The first is a fast-paced thriller set in modern Cleveland. The project—a collaboration—will launch around February 2021. The second is a near-future post-apocalyptic story with cool creatures, lots of action, and suspense. I'm hoping to put it out in the first half of 2021.

Other than that? I've got a few projects I need to get back to, like ALIVE AGAIN, as well as a few standalone horror novel ideas. I've also got plans for another short story collection, including an additional tale with Charlie and Diana from "The Pursuer."

And those darn characters from THE RUINS? They're always nagging me to write more about them. I've got a few stories started; we'll see if they carry weight.

2020 has certainly been a crazy year, but I'm grateful to have spent it doing what I love. Happy New Year and thanks so much for all your support! Fingers crossed for a better 2021!

Better Guns & Gardens is now live on Amazon US, UK, CA, AU, and in PAPERBACK (or FREE in Kindle Unlimited)! This post-apocalyptic collection contains 12 standalone stories, including one each in the RUINS, OUTAGE, and CONTAMINATION universes!

This might be one of my favorite releases to date, partly due to the effort involved. In fact, for the past few months, I've considered it sort of a passion project.

Although I've been publishing novels for eight years, this is the first time I've released a short story collection. Some of the stories in here date back to 2013—tales that I spent a lot of time on, and have been waiting for the right time to bundle.

As a child, I was enamored with Stephen King's short story collections Skeleton Crew and Nightmares & Dreamscapes. Those collections kept me up late at night, tucked under the covers with a flashlight, long after I should've been asleep. Short stories always allured me; I was amazed how the author could transport the reader into an entirely different world, all in a handful of pages. My hope is that these stories do the same for you!

All the stories in this collection stand alone, so you do not have to have read anything else to enjoy them. Here's a sneak peek at some of the BRAND NEW stories:
