The Lovely Bones [2009]

2010-07-27T22:48:00.000+10:00

I felt so depressed after watching this movie. It is so sad! I also felt frustrated because I don't find any justice in it. How come the bad person can escape the law and justice. Sure, karma will get him but I felt the pain of the family who lost. Despite all those, there is an optimistism in the persona. Although she is dead but she didn't hold any hatred about life and wishing her family will move on, be safe and happy. It is true in the end all of us have to die. It is just a matter of sooner or later.

The Lovely Bones directed by Peter Jackson tells a story about a 14-year-old girl from suburban Pennsylvania who is murdered by her neighbor. She tells the story from Heaven, showing the lives of the people around her and how they have changed all while attempting to get someone to find her lost body.

Avatar [2009]

2010-07-27T22:39:00.002+10:00

One of the greatest film I have watched. Love the graphics as well as the storyline. It is best to watch on 3D. Thumbs up for James Cameron!!

When his brother is killed in a robbery, paraplegic Marine Jake Sully decides to take his place in a mission on the distant world of Pandora. There he learns of greedy corporate figurehead Parker Selfridge's intentions of driving off the native humanoid "Na'vi" in order to mine for the precious material scattered throughout their rich woodland. In exchange for the spinal surgery that will fix his legs, Jake gathers intel for the cooperating military unit spearheaded by gung-ho Colonel Quaritch, while simultaneously attempting to infiltrate the Na'vi people with the use of an "avatar" identity. While Jake begins to bond with the native tribe and quickly falls in love with the beautiful alien Neytiri, the restless Colonel moves forward with his ruthless extermination tactics, forcing the soldier to take a stand - and fight back in an epic battle for the fate of Pandora.

Interview With The Vampire [1994]

2010-06-17T23:27:00.002+10:00

I have to praise this movie, great storyline and not to mention all the big stars like Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Antonia Banderas and Kirsten Dunst.

Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles is a 1994 film, based on the 1976 novel Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice. Vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac has decided to tell his story to writer Daniel Malloy how he became a vampire in 1791 at the age of 24 and what it's been like living for 200 years. The film was directed by Neil Jordan, and stars Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, and Kirsten Dunst. It was a box office hit, generating a little over $100 million in domestic receipts.

Snow White: A Tale of Terror [1997]

2010-06-17T23:14:00.003+10:00

Snow White: A Tale of Terror directed by Michael Cohn is based somewhat more authentically on the Grimm Brothers' story of a young woman who is unliked by her stepmother, the film includes the talking mirror, a poisoned apple, and some ruffian gold (not diamond) miners (and they aren't dwarfs or cute). It takes place at the time of the Crusades, and depicts the attitudes of the wealthy and the peasant classes toward one another.

I thought I didn't like this movie but the more I watch it, the more I got drawn into the story. It is not what I have expected in the Snow White movie. It is more on the eerie than the lovely fairy-tale that we were told when we were young. A great movie to watch!

Couples Retreat [2009]

2010-06-06T23:14:00.002+10:00

I was looking forward to watch this movie. There has been so much fuss about this movie and my friends actually go to Bora Bora for their honeymoon. I think it was because of this movie. I was sort of disappointed in the movie somehow because the setting of the beginning is a bit too long. It is not what I was looking forward to. But it's still a good movie about relationships and how to maintain a healthy family.

Couples Reatreat directed by Peter Billingsley is a comedy centered around four couples who settle into a tropical-island resort for a vacation. While one of the couples is there to work on the marriage, the others fail to realize that participation in the resort's therapy sessions is not optional.

Spider-Man 3 [2007]

2010-06-04T15:28:00.000+10:00

Marvel action heroes are still my favourite up to this age. I remembered when I first arrived in Australia, I used to buy those comics from Franklins and read. It was only 30c then...now if you want to by a book it costs more than $20.

After 2 years, I have a chance to watch this movie again and I still love the action although the ending is a bit sad. I always thought there will always be happing ending in heroes stories but I guess reality is not a nice place.

Spider-Man 3 was directed by Sam Raimi.

Peter Parker has finally managed to piece together the once-broken parts of his life, maintaining a balance between his relationship with Mary-Jane and his responsibility as Spider-Man. But more challenges arise for our young hero. Peter's old friend Harry Obsourne has set out for revenge against Peter; taking up the mantle of his late father's persona as The New Goblin, and Peter must also capture Uncle Ben's real killer, Flint Marko, who has been transformed into his toughest foe yet, the Sandman. All hope seems lost when suddenly Peter's suit turns jet-black and greatly amplifies his powers. But it also begins to greatly amplify the much darker qualities of Peter's personality that he begins to lose himself to. Peter has to reach deep inside himself to free the compassionate hero he used to be if he is to ever conquer the darkness within and face not only his greatest enemies, but also...himself.

It's Complicated [2009]

2010-06-04T15:14:00.002+10:00

The name Meryl Streep was introduced to me from The Devil Wears Prada. I think she's one of the most talented actress and for her age I have to give my thumbs up. Her roles from each movies show the diverse talent he has.

It's Complicated directed by Nancy Meyers is fun and very entertaining. However, it's probably not one of my favourite. I would like to see Steve Martin more in this movie though :)

During his son's college graduation, Jane hooks up with her ex-husband, Jake, who's married to a younger woman. When brought together at a family event, two exes find themselves oddly attracted to each other after ten years of divorce. Although the couple think that this affair will stay in a different state, it brings itself back to their own city and disrupts their personal lives. While the couple still maintain other romances, they cannot help but to continue with their affair. As if being your ex's mistress isn't tough enough, Jane also finds herself drawn to Adam, a smitten architect.

Fame [2009]

2010-06-04T14:59:00.002+10:00

I was so looking forward to see this movie because I've always loved musical, dancing and singing type of movies...but somehow I was disappointed. Oh well I'm not too sure is it because I was tired of that day. But I felt asleep after 15 minutes into the movie. The set of the movie is too long showing their freshmen, junior and senior years. Well I guess that how they tried to establish the storyline but I could not follow it. In addition, it flip forward and backward to too many characters and I could not keep track on. But it's a good movie showing all the upcoming young talents these days!

Fame directed by Kevin Tancharoen is based upon the 1980 film which follows NYC talent attending the New York City High School for the Performing Arts, (Known today as Fiorello H. Laguardia H.S.) students get specialized training that often leads to success as actors, singers, etc. In 1936, New York City Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia founded the High School of Music & Art in order to provide a facility where the most gifted and talented public school students of New York City could pursue their talents in art or music, while also completing a full academic program of instruction. In 1948, the School of Performing Arts was created to provide training in performance skills to students who wished to prepare for professional careers in dance, music or drama.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen [2009]

2010-06-04T14:48:00.002+10:00

After seeing the first Transformers movie in 2006 (I think), I'm so anticipated to see the sequel. Although I like the first movie better, I guess maybe I'm not into robots and machines, but the sequel is packed with a lot of action and adventure.

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen is directed by Michael Bay.

Decepticon forces return to Earth on a mission to take Sam Witwicky prisoner, after the young hero learns the truth about the ancient origins of the Transformers. Joining the mission to protect humankind is Optimus Prime, who forms an alliance with international armies for a second epic battle.

The Ugly Truth [2009]

2010-06-02T23:02:00.000+10:00

A very entertaining movie, The Ugly Truth directed by Robert Luketic is fun and contemporary although the story line is a bit overrated about the main character. Well that's just my personal perception.

At first I thought the doctor, the main character love interest, is actually gay rather than a perfect guy. Despite all that, it's an easy and fun movie to relax in the evening.

A romantically challenged morning show producer is reluctantly embroiled in a series of outrageous tests by her chauvinistic correspondent to prove his theories on relationships and help her find love. His clever ploys, however, lead to an unexpected result.

In Sacramento, Abby Richter produces a morning news show that's about to be canceled. To boost ratings, her boss hires Mike Chadway, a local cable call-in host who promotes the ugly truth: sex is the only glue in a relationship, men can't change, and they only respond to women's looks. Mike offends Abby's sensibility: she has a checklist about the perfect man, and she's found him in her new neighbor, Colin, a hunky doctor. Mike offers to help her reel in Colin if she'll work with Mike on the show; she accepts the deal, ratings go up, and, with Mike's help, so does Colin's interest in her. Craig Ferguson, a hot air balloon, and the ugly truth help this take on "Cyrano" play out.

Julie & Julia [2009]

2010-06-02T22:51:00.003+10:00

This movie is the reason why I start blogging. Julie & Julia directed by Nora Ephron was a bit hard to grasp the concept and the changing scenes between the two era of two women. I didn't realise that it was a shift in time until 1/3 of the movie. Maybe I'm a bit slow.

I have to admit Meryl Streep is a great actress, I have seen quite a few of her movies and each character she portrayed at totally different from each other and her acting was so great. She really deserves her title.

Julia Child and Julie Powell - both of whom wrote memoirs - find their lives intertwined. Though separated by time and space, both women are at loose ends... until they discover that with the right combination of passion, fearlessness and butter, anything is possible.

The Proposal [2009]

2010-06-02T22:26:00.003+10:00

Sandra Bullock, what can you say about her? She's a wonderful woman and all her movies according to me are great!

The Proposal directed by Anne Fletcher is one of a kind. The comedy is great, the scenes are beautiful and the romance, soft and sweet. I would never want to miss watching this.

In New York, Margaret Tate is a successful self-made chief-editor of the Ruick & Hunt Publishing and loathed by her coworkers. Margaret lost her parents when she was sixteen and is tough with the employees of the office. Her executive assistant and aspirant editor Andrew Paxton has been working with her for three years without any recognition. When Margaret has problems with the immigration due to an expired visa and is threatened with deportation, she blackmails Andrew to agree to marry her. In return, he would be promoted to editor and she would publish his book. Meanwhile, the skeptical clerk of the immigration department Mr. Gilbertson schedules an interview with Margaret and Andrew after the weekend. The couple travels to Sitka, Alaska, to celebrate the ninetieth birthday of Andrew's grandmother and Margaret is welcomed by his warming family. Over the weekend, she grows closer to Andrew's family who ask her to marry Andrew in their barn, a family tradition in the Paxton family. And the tension increases when Mr. Gilbertson appears out of the blue in Sitka promising to charge Andrew for fraud.

Centre Stage: Turn It Up [2008]

2010-06-02T22:20:00.004+10:00

Dance movies are one of my favourites. Centre Stage: Turn It Up directed by Steven Jacobson is the sequel to Centre Stage (2000). Although the story line does not link to the first movie it very much revolves around ballet academy.

Compare to the first movie, I think the sequel has a great plot. It truly shows you have to work hard to be where you want to be. A fabulous movie with great music and cool dance moves.

All self-taught dancer Kate Parker has ever wanted to do was perform with the American Academy of Ballet. But when she doesnt make it after auditioning, she learns that it takes more than precision and perfection to succeed in the dance world. With a turn in a cutting-edge hip-hop club and the help of a good-looking former hockey player, she may just find the passion she needs to make her dreams come true. Peter Gallagher (TVs The O.C.) and a cast of hot up-and-coming stars including newcomers Rachele Smith and Kenny Wormald rock to a new beat in this unmissable sensation!

2012 [2009]

2010-06-02T22:12:00.003+10:00

I have to admit this movie is an epic. Although I am not a fan of doomsday kind of movie but the pictures are great. Even my dad and step-mum have to lie down and watch it with me. They were hooked.

2012 directed by Roland Emmerich is a great movie to watch, it displays relationships between family members and compasion between humans. I have to admit some scenes brought tears to my eye.

When the geologist Dr. Adrian Helmsley and his team discover that the core of Earth is heating due to solar radiation, he advises the North American President about his findings. The American Govern collects money from the worldwide leaders to build arks to save them with necessary people to rebuild civilization. Meanwhile, the unsuccessful writer Jackson Curtis discloses that the world is near to end and tries to save his son and his daughter from the tragic end.

17 Again [2009]

2010-06-02T21:55:00.005+10:00

I have always like Zac Efron from High School Musical and when I found the movie 17 Again directed by Burr Steers, I grabbed it straightaway. This movie is so unexpected because Zac is totally in a different character, which helps to cut him out of the High School Musical image. In addition, the role he was casted, being 17 but act and think like a mature adult, I have to say he's amazing. There is so much potential and opportunities for him in the future.

In 1989, the teenager Mike O'Donnell is the star of the Hayden High-School. On the day of the final basketball game, Mike will be observed and may win a scholarship in college. However, his girlfriend Scarlett tells him that she is pregnant and Mike does not play the game. Twenty years later, Mike is a complete loser that blames Scar for his failures: he is not promoted to sale manager after working sixteen years in the same company; Scarlett is divorcing him; his teenagers son Alex and daughter Maggie hate him; and he is temporarily living with his best friend, the eccentric and immature millionaire Ned Gold. Mike nostalgically visits Hayden where an old janitor talks to him about second chance in life. During the night, he sees the janitor jumping from a bridge into the river and he unsuccessfully tries to help the man. Mike passes out and when he wakes up, he discovers that he is seventeen again. Further, he discovers that he has a second chance to fix his relationship with his family.

Race to Witch Mountain [2009]

2010-06-02T21:42:00.002+10:00

I have just finished watching Race to Witch Mountain directed by Andy Fickman. I have heard about this movie before but never had a chance to watch it until today. Although I never read the summary of the movie but I rented it anyway because I like movies where teenagers were in it. It gives me a sense of family kind of movie.

When the movie started I was sort of disappointed because I realised it's all about sci-fi but as the movie progress it gave me a thrill, a sense of adventure and I truly enjoyed the whole movie.

In Las Vegas, the regenerated ex-con Jack Bruno works as taxi driver. During an UFO Convention at Planet Hollywood, the skeptical Jack picks up Dr. Alex Friedman, who will present a scientific lecture in the event. Then he is pressed by two henchmen of his former boss, the criminal Wolff, that wants to talk to him, but Jack does not want to return to the crime life. Jack fights and gets rid of them; out of the blue, he finds two teenagers on the backseat of his cab. They tell that they are siblings, Sara and Seth, and they need to travel to a location outside Las Vegas in the middle of nowhere. Meanwhile the government finds a spacecraft that crashed nearby Las Vegas and is chasing the two aliens; after the investigation of the men of Major Henry Burke, they discover that the two siblings are the aliens. Jack Bruno, Sara and Seth are chased by Henry Burke's team and by the "Syphon", a killer from outer space that has been sent to kill them by the military of their planet that want to invade Earth. Sara and Seth explain that they traveled to Earth to collect scientific data of an experiment and save Earth from invasion, but they need to return immediately to their planet. Jack teams up with Dr. Alex to retrieve their spacecraft in a secret base in the Witch Mountain.
