Last week I was browsing our twitter feed and saw a tweet from Rita Konig that Marie Claire Maison is the best shelter magazine right now. Since Rita was a contributing editor to our all time favorite magazine, Domino, when it comes to interior design mags we hold her opinion in high regard. Thrilled to see that the French magazine has a digital subscription, I immediately subscribed and was not disappointed. Thanks for the tip Rita!

It's not often that we post partial room views, but this space warranted a close up. The grass cloth wallpaper layered with a pair of swanky black bookshelves and sexy brass sconces creates a major impact in a very small amount of space. The simple, yet impactful art just passed the threshold hints at an equally attractive space on the other side.

A few months ago we made a quick visit to Chicago to check out a new furniture line (which will be arriving to the shop on Monday!). With less than 24 hours in the Windy City, we were determined to spend a couple of our hours at Jayson Home. We went straight from the airport to the shop and were not disappointed. It is no surprise that this beautifully curated space is in the home of Jayson Home's Vice President of Merchandising, Devin Kirk. Brooke Shields' Greenwich Village brownstone has a collection of beautiful spaces. The kitchen though might be my favorite (the master bath and living room coming in a close second and third). The rustic yet elegant custom table is what put this space in first place for me. The tangerine upholstered chairs, glam pendants and table-side fireplace are pretty great too!

Isn't it amazing what you can do with such a simple black and white color story? My favorite part is the ingenious wall application of a tile typically reserved for flooring, but the two-tone claw foot tub comes in a close second. It's a veritable jewel box!

It's been a little over a year since the official launch of the design services side of Twelve Chairs (the "studio" in Twelve Chairs | Shop + Studio). In addition to full service interior design, we also offer at-home design consultations. For an inside look at how it works, we've put together a list of frequently asked questions.

Q: How much does a consultation cost?

A: At-Home Consultations are a flat rate of $250.

Q: How long do they last?

A: All consultations last an hour and a half. Depending on your location, they typically start at 6:45pm and go until 8:15pm.

Q: Where will you travel?

A: All consultations in Boston are included in the flat $250. We can arrange to travel outside of the city for a travel fee of $50 per hour.

Q: Who conducts the consultation?

A: All consultations are conducted by founders and owners, Miggy Mason and Roisin Giese. We believe two heads are better than one!

Q: What can I expect during the consultation?

A: We start with a tour of your space and then discuss the specific design challenges you'd like to focus on. We often take time to brainstorm ideas and come up with an action plan before calling you back into the space to present our worked-through solutions. Our suggestions include ideas for arranging furniture, creating a color story, displaying art, selecting window treatments, and discovering additional pieces for your space.

Q: What is your availability?

A: We typically conduct all consultations on Wednesday evenings. We occasionally have availability on Mondays during the day and/or Thursday evenings.

Q: What do you need from me ahead of time?

A: It is always helpful to have a few images of the space you'd like to focus on, as well as a list of your priorities.

Q: What do you leave me with?

A: During our visit, we suggest having a notebook handy for suggestions we make regarding furniture and decor sources, paint ideas, floor plans, styling, etc. We aim to leave you with an action plan for creating a well-designed space.

Q: How do I know if a consultation is right for me?

A: At-Home Consultations are great for clients who would like insight and advice from interior designers, but are interested in executing the design on their own. Sometimes a fresh set of eyes and a proposed design direction is just what you need.

Q: Can I have you come back again?

A: Of course! We often return to clients' homes for repeat visits. Whether it's help with another room or assistance with making the final decisions on furniture and decor choices.

The layers and layers of pattern give this room it's wow factor. By mixing up the print sizes/ styles of the headboard, window treatments, wallpaper and even the wall decor, what could have been your typical traditional bedroom (with mahogany four-poster bed and all) becomes a fresh, upbeat space.

I am a huge fan of breakfast nooks. The name alone sounds like a cozy way to begin the morning routine. I especially like the elements of this one. In addition to coveting the chairs and light fixture, I like that the flooring tile adds pattern in a subtle way and that drawers are built into the banquette for extra storage. This lovely nook is both beautiful and functional - the perfect combination!

As proven here, a simple color palette can make for a gorgeous room. Using blue and white for all the room's elements, the mix of bold patterns is dramatic rather than busy. I was drawn to this room for both its celebration of blue and its amazing coffee table!

There are two many things in this room that I love to list them all. But I'll try. The giant, ornate frames leaning against the wall that say "I'm gorgeous and glamorous, but it's no big deal." The chinoiserie cabinet and it's contents so casually arranged. The fancy-and-whimsical-all-at-the-same-time chandelier. And the chairs! They would be oh so perfect in our clients dining room with their low profile and beautifully carved backs. What's not to love?

I'm currently working on my own bedroom and was unsure of which direction to go with it until I happened open this dynamic space. The very dramatic headboard with brass buttons is downplayed by the unfussy bedding and other simple yet stylish furnishings. When all brought together the end result is stunning yet approachable, which is just what I hope to achieve in my own space.

Our first pic(k) for 2012! This graphic wallpaper makes this entryway unforgettable but my favorite elements are the purple and red chandelier, the chinoiserie stools upholstered in black and white houndstooth and the extra large citrine stripes painted in the vestibule.

Bathrooms are the perfect spot to take a risk. A funky patterned wallpaper or colorful tile make a huge impact in a small space. I love the fresh, playful feeling created by the bright blues, yellows, and greens. The funky vintage desk is a great unexpected touch paired with the sleek Ghost stool. It's not often that you can fit actual furniture in a bathroom, but this design takes full advantage with extra special pieces.

Who knew a former air-raid bunker could look so chic. While I don't ever see myself living in a space with concrete walls, I do admire how this Berlin couple transformed a cold utilitarian space into an inviting residential space perfect for entertaining and displaying their art collection. I am particularly fond of their moody library where a pair of vintage chairs are reupholstered in a plush purple velvet, high pile rugs are layered, and a console discovered in Bali serves as a display area for framed artwork. It may not be a place I would want to live but it is certainly a place I would love to visit.

If you are like me, you are not quite done with your holiday shopping. For my fellow gift finding procrastinators, here is our final gift guide of the season. Thoughtful gifts that will make it look like you were done shopping weeks ago!

1. Plimpton Skinny Vase by Jill Rosenwald, $124 - For the girl who has everything, this beautifully colored vase is just the thing.

2. Ant Print, $24 - My adorable 1 year old nephew is already a book worm. This 8x10 print is an easy size to frame and would look great on his bedroom wall.

3. Home Made, $40 - My auntie is an amazing cook and collector of cookbooks. I know she would be happy to have this beautiful book (Awarded Dutch Cookbook of the Year) as part of her collection.

4. Set of Four Whiskey Discs, $32 - For my scotch on the rocks drinking brother-in-law. In addition to liking their functional benefits (never having to drink diluted whiskey again), I know he will love that these soapstone discs are made right up in New Hampshire.

5. Foundry Candle, $40 - These amazing candles are hand poured into recycled glassware with vintage motorcycle racing numbers. The packaging is as alluring as the masculine fragrance. The perfect man candle and the perfect gift for a few of the men on my list.

6. Whale Bin, $56 each - New to the shop, I am just smitten with these bins. They are perfect for organizing in an office, bath, or kids room. I know my beach loving friend will just adore it.

At first glance, I thought this looked like a well designed dining room with a crisp color palette. On second glance, I realized this was also a dining room with the most beautifully organized storage solution! Flanking the fireplace are two custom designed cabinets: one that acts as a pantry and a second that holds the homeowners' glassware. Although these cabinets have doors, I love that the contents are perfectly displayed even when hidden.
