introducing erin

We are so excited to finally introduce our incredible Project Manager, Erin. She's our go-to girl for all things hip and fabulous around the city. If we could use only five words to describe Erin we would say she is well-traveled, encouraging, classy, fashionable, and upbeat. She has been a huge part of the Twelve Chairs team since 2013 and is always there to keep our client orders (and our team) on schedule and in line. We asked Erin to answer some of our favorite interview questions in a very Twelve Chairs fashion.

Where do you currently reside?
I currently reside in a hidden part of Boston called Bay Village. Tucked away between the Theater District and the South End. The brick sidewalks and gas street lamps used to be home to the architects of Beacon Hill, and the neighborhood prides itself for being the birth place of Edgar Allen Poe!

What are you up to these days?
Right now I am trying to train for a 5K, making Nantucket Baskets for wedding gifts, and enjoying everything fall.

What five words best describe you?
Creative, historic, empathic, enthusiastic, and (if you follow astrology) most people say I am a classic Libra.

What is your favorite number?
My favorite number is 12! Its my birthday (October 12), the number of my favorite athlete - Tom Brady, it makes up a dozen, comes before the unlucky number 13, and is the start of where I work. It's one of the many reasons I was attracted to work at Twelve Chairs!

What is your favorite chair?
I have too many, but my favorite chair at the moment is the Hardoy Chair by Jorge Ferrari Hardoy - more commonly know as the Butterfly Chair. I recently found a vintage original frame with a leather cover and totally fell in love! The chair is simple, structurally beautiful, and timeless (originally designed in 1938). But the best part is when you sit in the chair you feel like you are floating in air - you don't want to get up!

local artist spotlight: elizabeth harris

We're thrilled to share our third installation at the 12Stairs Gallery with a new body of work by local artist, Elizabeth Harris. This creative show is in collaboration with Anna Schindela r as curator. All of the work is available for purchase in the shop!

Elizabeth Harris works with molten beeswax mixed with resin, graphite, and marble dust to create encaustic works that explore scientific themes. This particular body of work focuses on exploring quantum physics. Elizabeth's goal is to suggest a sense of deep illuminated space by fusing the acts of painting and drawing into beautifully layered surfaces.

All good things must come to an end, and the same is true with our current art show. We've loved having Birgit's artwork in our 12Stairs Gallery these past few months! We're so excited to introduce our new decorative pillow line, Aalamwaar! Aalamwaar pillows are all hand block printed by artisans using traditional techniques found in India. The result? A wide range of patterned pillows featuring creative colors, details, and designs.

We love the mix of traditional and new patterns. They create a diverse collection that can work with a variety of styles in a variety of homes. Some of our favorite details include the tassels and pom-poms on the edges!

style with a story: caravan pacific

Caravan Pacific is our favorite line for mid-century inspired lighting! Founder Shannon Guirl used a successful KickStarter campaign to begin the company, and has since expanded her designs to a beautifully curated collection. Shannon and her team of artisans have quickly gained press and interest in their creations.

The ever-growing line is manufactured from start to finish in Portland, Oregon using FSC Certified wood and durable stoneware that is poured by hand and glazed in an assortment of colors. The professional artisan touch is apparent in the quality! These lamps are sure to showcase beauty and bring the perfect pop of color and timeless design to any space.

We currently have the Alberta, Vanderbilt, and Sullivan Table lamps in the shop along with samples of all the finishes. Feel free to reach out to us if you're interested in any custom lamps featuring your choice of glaze color and wood finish. We love the line, and we're sure you will too!

local artist spotlight: birgit wurster

We're so excited to showcase our second installation at the 12Stairs Gallery with a new body of work by Boston-based artist, Birgit Wurster. This show is in collaboration with Anna Schindela r, curator of the salon style installation. All of the work is available for purchase in the shop!

Birgit's background in anthropology and architecture inspired her love of fabrication and craft. These embroidered works showcase a collection of phrases from conversations, literature, poems, and song lyrics collected as "memos" on designer fabrics. We love these quirky and colorful pieces, and we're so happy to have Birgit as our current artist in the 12Stairs Gallery!

style with a story: jill rosenwald

How can we begin to describe Jill Rosenwald? She is so many things to us! A dear friend, a mentor and confidant, a former Fort Point neighbor, and an all around fabulous designer. Her lovely and lively personality is reflected in her use of color and pattern and we can't seem to get enough of it. We love getting that phone call when our order is complete. It's always so fun to make a trip to her studio to pick up our newest treasures and have a good chat!

Jill and her team so carefully craft and care for every handmade piece. Each and every one is hand-thrown and painted right in Jill's studio, which she shares with her wonderfully talented husband, Lawrence McRae. One of our favorite of Jill's design details is the gold trimmed edges on her bowls and trays. It gives each piece that perfect finishing touch.

We're so excited to have a new array of custom-colored bowls, vases, trays, and lamps in our shop this season! Our love for teal is apparent in our spring collection. (You can view all of our pieces through our webshop and see them in person in our South End shop). We've loved getting to work with Jill over the past few years on custom shop and studio pieces and are looking forward to many more collaborations!
