Gilchrist adds his voice to scheduled IPL window

Deccan Chargers skipper Adam Gilchrist has added his voice to the growing argument that the Indian Premier League needs a scheduled six week window in order to allow the best players in the world to take part.

The former Australian wicketkeeper believes having a window would not only stop future clashes with international series’ but it would allow the IPL to build it’s brand as the premier club competition in the world. "The ICC and IPL need to really sit down at the table and look closer (at the window)," he said. "I am beginning to believe that the players across the globe would like a window to be available because of the glaringly obvious part of a good financial return for players".

"But along with that it is the premier club competition in the world. If the players feel part of that and are desperate to be part of it is only going to help the brand and there is great benefit for the game of cricket."

"The IPL needs to be aware of not getting too big to the detriment of the game," he said.

"I read with interest Lalit Modi's very pleasing comments that the commissioner and the committee are aware of that as they look to expand the competition but they are not looking to take too much more time."

Royals aiming for IPL glory once again

The Rajasthan Royals went into last seasons IPL in South Africa as the inaugural winners but the defence of their crown didnt go to plan as they ended the group stages in 6th place missing out on the semi finals by just one point.

The Royals four wicket defeat against the lowly Kolkata Knight Riders in their last group game summed up a campaign of missed opportunities when victory would have secured a place in the semi finals.

The Royals go into this years IPL confident that they can once again challenge for the IPL title and with skipper Shane Warne leading the team back in India the Royals will once again be a tough team to beat.

The Royals will welcome back Graeme Smith and Shane Watson who both missed large parts of last years tournament in South Africa because of injuries and with the addition of Englishmen Michael Lumb the batting will be stronger.

With Yusuf Pathan in the middle order Warne has an explosive batsman who’s got the ability and power to change the course of the game like he displayed during the first IPL.

The Royals may have a weak top order which sometimes rely to heavily on the runs scored by Smith but it’s their bowling attack which really shines.

BCCI invites bids for two new franchises

Under this Invitation to Tender, the winning bidders in respect of two locations in India will be granted the right to own and operate a new team which will compete in the IPL in each year from and including 2011 onwards. From the 2011 IPL Season on wards it is therefore anticipated that the number of teams will increase from 8 to 10 teams. The two new IPL teams will enjoy the same opportunity (if applicable and subject to qualification) to compete in each and any CLT20 which is staged from 2011 onwards.

The Invitation to Tender contains details of how Bids may be submitted and includes details of how income from the commercialization of the various rights relating to the League will be divided, together with the various Franchisee obligations.

The Invitation to Tender can be obtained from Monday, 22nd February 2010, 10:00am onwards at the IPL office, Cricket Centre, Wankhede Stadium, D Road, Churchgate, Mumbai 400 020, Tel: +91 22 2289800, Fax: +91 22 22898801 upon payment of Rs. 5 Lakhs (500,000) (non refundable and non adjustable) by demand draft or pay order favoring The Board of Control for Cricket in India.

All bidding parties will need to fulfill the eligibility criteria and other requirements specified in the Invitation to Tender.

Bids will be opened at 12 noon (IST) on Sunday, 7th March 2010. The winning bids will be announced in the manner set out in the Invitation to Tender.

Kings XI Punjab on Friday appointed Kumar Sangakkara as its new captain for DLF IPL 2010. The Sri Lankan player replaces Yuvraj Singh who had led the team for the last two seasons with great efficiency and passion. A talented left-handed batsman and a vigilant wicketkeeper, Kumar is currently serving as captain of the Sri Lankan Cricket team. He has been recognised as the driving force behind Sri Lankan team in the past couple of years. His exemplary performances in the last two editions of IPL have made him one of the team favourites.

Jadeja banned from IPL 3

Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Ravinder Jadeja will not play in the third edition of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament as the IPL has imposed a ban on him for violating the Code of Conduct.

The Saurashtra cricketer has been suspended for the third edition of IPL as he was bargaining for more salary from the franchisees, without getting a clearance from the Rajasthan Royals for this season, claimed sources.

Jadeja, however, can appeal against the decision.

Sources said Jadeja was inducted into the Rajasthan Royals team for the first season of the tournament through the 'draft system' for which he was paid a stipulated amount of Rs 20 lakhs, as he was an under 19 recruit.

In the second season, when the franchisees got the opportunity to sign Jadeja for two years, he was reluctant to sign on the dotted line and agreed to represent Rajasthan Royals' only for a year, added sources.

Jadeja began looking for a better bargain after his contract with Shane Warne- led Rajasthan Royals came to an end on December 31 last year.

As per rules, Jadeja could talk to the other IPL teams only after he was set free by Rajasthan Royals.

There are reports that the decision to suspend Jadeja was decided after the owners of Rajasthan Royals discussed the whole issue with IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi.

A BCCI official said, "We strictly adhere to the Code of Conduct and if any cricketer is violating it, then we won't tolerate it."

Sources said Jadeja could be pardoned only if the IPL decides to consider his case. (ANI)

Pak players should have been picked up: SRK

As a perceived snub to Pakistani players by the Indian Premier League spark a spat between the neighboring countries, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, an IPL franchisee himself, believes they should have been picked.
"I truly believe they (Pakistan players) should have been chosen," Khan, co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), said.

Khan however said that since "some issues" were involved the matter could have been handled by the IPL "respectfully".

No Pakistani player was bought by the eight Indian clubs during an auction on Tuesday for the third edition of the glitzy IPL despite the Pakistan team being the reigning world champions in the Twenty20 format of the cricket tournament.

Rooting for the Pakistani players, Khan said they are the best T20 players in the world. "They are the champions, they are wonderful but somewhere down the line there is an issue and we can`t deny it," he said.

Khan said it was humiliating to him as a KKR owner that no one bid for the Pakistani players despite them being put up for auction.

"We are known to invite everyone. We should have. If there were any issues, they should have been put on board earlier. Everything can happen respectfully," he said.

"Everyday we blame Pakistan, everyday Pakistan blames us. It is an issue," Khan, who had five players from Pakistan playing for KKR in IPL`s first edition, said.

Khan felt that the youth should circumvent all that is said about India and Pakistan by the politicians and say, "It (Pakistan) is a great neighbors to have. We are great neighbors, they are good neighbors. Let us love each other."

"Let me be honest. My family is from Pakistan, my father was born there and his family is from there," he said.

Pakistan Cricket Board revokes IPL NOCs to players

Islamabad, Jan 29(ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday cancelled all the No Objection Certificates (NOCs) issued to its players for participation in the third edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The decision by the board means that no Pakistani player can now participate in tournament even if the franchises sign them as substitutes.

"All NOCs issued to Pakistani players for their participation in IPL 3 stand revoked. In the future if any player receives an invitation for participation in IPL events, PCB will decide the matter on a case-to-case basis after consulting the relevant government authorities," the PCB said in a statement.

The board has issued NOCs to total 26 players, including Shahid Afridi, Imran Nazir, Abdul Razzaq, Saeed Ajmal, Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal, Muhammad Amir, Umar Gul, Sohail Tanveer, Rana Naveed and Misbah-ul-Haq.

A spokesman for the Pakistan Sports Ministry also said that in future if any Pakistani player gets an offer to play in the IPL, he would have to approach the PCB and seek fresh NOCs from relevant ministries including security clearance and approval from Foreign Ministry, The Dawn reports.

The decision came after unconfirmed reports suggested that all-rounder Adbul Razzaq was approached by Kolkata Knight Riders and Deccan Chargers.

Earlier, 11 Pakistani players were ignored by all the franchises at the player auction for the tournament held in Mumbai. The snub had created uproar in Pakistan, which seemed to have been affecting the ties between both the countries. (ANI)

Delhi Daredevils is the Delhi franchise for the Indian Premier League. The franchise is owned by the GMR Group. This time team is lead by Gautam Gambhir, earlier in both the IPL seasons Virender Sehwag was leading the team and they did well job. Lalit Modi Speaks on Pakistan complaints

With the fall out from Tuesdays IPL player auction rumbling on IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has stated the franchises or the league owe no answers to anyone.

The Pakistan Cricket Board have turned the snub of the Pakistan players into a political row but Modi stood firm saying the decision not to pick any Pakistan players were down to the individual needs of the franchises.

"The owners and only the owners have the prerogative If the owners don't pick them up, what can I do?"

Modi has seen effigies of himself burnt across Pakistan but he was hopeful some of the Pakistan players would be picked. "I was always hopeful that the Pakistanis would be selected This has nothing to do with the IPL I am not a super selector".

"Why should we get into this issue of apologizing or not apologizing. IPL has put its best for forward and included the best players. Why aren't you saying I should apologize to Canada and Netherlands and Australia and Zimbabwe whose players were not picked up?"

IPL moved to Mumbai

The IPL 2010 have moved the opening game of this years IPL season to Mumbai after political unrest in Andhra Pradesh over the formation of the state of Telangana.

The Deccan Chargers who are the defending IPL champions were due to play the Kolkata Knight Riders in Hyderabad but the IPL are unwilling to hold their opening ceremony there at a time of unrest.

IPL commissioner Lalit Modi told reporters in Mumbai that they don't want to take any chances.

"It remains a Deccan Chargers vs Kolkata Knight Riders match but instead of Hyderabad, it would be held in Mumbai." he said.

"The opening game, the opening ceremony and the opening gala dinner (on March 11) are very important for us. People from all over the world are coming and we are going to make sure that everything is in order. We don't want to take any chances" he added.

"There are no changes to other matches, everything looks fine. We have worked it out with franchises and the teams and decided that match would be held in Mumbai".
