The images above are from their Etsy shop here, but they also specialize is custom cabinetry and modern furniture for residential and commercial use. You should also check out their parent company - architecture firm Build. Their work is stunning and it only makes sense that they have expanded into others areas of design.

Dwell has teamed up with Heath Ceramics for some stunning tiles that will be available in August 2010. Three new tile shapes - little diamond, wide hex and half hex - will be available in all 80 glazes in five pre-mounted patterns as well as individual tiles for endless custom creations.

Between a fantastic blog and a handful of Flickr pages filled with his own work as well as collections of mid century ephemera, I'm surprised that I have not yet made mention of Portland illustrator Ward Jenkins until now. With season four of the beloved Mad Men beginning in a matter of days, I felt this was a great time to post a fabulous illustration he did for the Boston Globe of a Mad Men themed party - an image that I'm sure will inspire many a soiree in the coming days!

I just discovered the Vintage Ad Broswer today and am pretty sure that I could be searching on this site for hours and hours. The current collection has over 120,000 ads from a number of sources and each ad has a link taking you to a variety of websites where you can purchase each one as a print. I started out searching for furniture ads and there are so many drool worthy images of mid-century designs and modern homes, never mind the occasional add for those bright blue bathroom fixtures that were once so strangely popular.

I'm not one to normally rant on my blog, but an article in the New York Times gave me another reason to despise the overly produced "Keep Calm and Carry On" posters. Other than the fact that this annoying slogan can now be found on everything from shirts, rugs, deck chairs and practically anything else where a slogan could be placed thanks to the numerous Etsy sellers and other online shops (so much for creativity!), it turns out that the history behind the slogan is less than calming...

"The British propaganda office created a series of three posters. The others were “Freedom is in peril, defend it with all your might” and “Your courage, your cheerfulness, your resolution will bring us victory.” The government plastered Britain with those two posters. But it held back “Keep calm” for even more upsetting circumstances.

“The plan was, it was to be displayed and it was to go up if Germany ever invaded,” Mr. Coop said."

So the real message of this poster was to tell the citizens to basically submit to the Nazi's, should they invade Britain, which went completely against what their first two posters stated.

Matte Stephens is an artist based out of Portland, Oregon whose style draws inspirations from mid century modern design and illustrations. I first discovered his work on Etsy and he has since been featured at Velocity Art and Design in Seattle. Above are some of his new prints that are currently available and quite affordable. My new found love for FLOR

I am finally a new owner of a Flor Rug! I have been pondering a purchase from Flor for some time but just had not been entirely sold on the idea of an area rug made up of separate tiles. I should have listened to all of the previous reviews and blog posts I have read in the past - I am totally sold on Flor!
The quality is greater than expected and the prices are quite reasonable. I'm also surprised that the seams between tiles are not noticeable. I went with the All Square pattern in Titanium as shown above (I'll add my personal photos soon), and am already planning on future purchases for other rooms in my house. Does anyone out there have any opinions or experiences with Flor they would care to share?
