I spotted this a while back on the always wonderful Graphic-ExchanGE. Transformer’s identity concept for a Moscow cafe is completely stunning. Just look at that place setting, it takes my breath away! All the elements work so well together, and I love how they’ve combined earth tones with bright silvers, so chic! Everything looks so rich and clean at the same time. Oh how I wish I weren’t 5000 miles away!

Friday Pick Me Up!

I finally had some time over the weekend to work on this pillow project by Anne Kyrrö Quinn. I’d been wanting to do this since I spotted it back in September. I’m thrilled that I stumbled upon Etsy’s How-To section and it’s my new go-to place for fun projects. I just love how this turned out and I highly recommend giving this pattern a go.

I’d say the project was fairly easy to execute but a bit time consuming. A majority of the time went to cutting and stitching the rossetts and probably took me about 6 hours total to finish. I’m still a fairly novice sewer so that could have slowed me up but it was the perfect task for a rainy weekend! I made my pillow a little smaller so that it would fit an insert that I’d already had and I’m thrilled with the finished look. I kept it simple with an off-white color and I think it contrasts with our chairs and other pillows well.

I’m completely loving these Smitten Sticks recently launched by Edyta Szyszlo and Vana of Le Papier Studio. Every time I see them they put a big grin on my face (no pun intended)! They make the sweetest addition to wedding photos and I can even picture these making their way into a few holiday family pics for a little added whimsy. Congrats to the two for a great launch and a fantastic idea!

A little background about advertising on T&T, with the exception of sponsorships all ads are run through Google AdSense. It’s not the greatest, but it’s the only ad network we’ve been able to get into and it pays for the hosting. AdSense is supposed to deliver relevant ads based on the content of your site but as you can see we don’t post about weight loss or back surgery yet we get ads for them. You can block sites you don’t want to advertise, but honestly between a full time job, Twig & Thistle, Etsy orders, the hubby and Tula, micromanaging AdSense has been pretty low on my list of priorities.

But the last thing I want when someone visits Twig & Thistle is to be confronted with ads preying on ones insecurities. I had my hubby look into it and as of last week we’re trying to filter out all the weight loss / get rich / diet suplement ads from our site and we’re going to start manually approving targeted ads before they go up on the site.

I spend a lot of time on Twig & Thistle and I strive to make it a place I’m proud of and one people can enjoy. I always appreciate it when someone takes the time to tell me how I can make their experience better. Do you have any suggestions on how to improve T&T? Today is my birthday (Woo Hoo!) and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than finding out that I was a finalist in the DIY Wedding Crafts Contest with Etsy and Martha Stewart Weddings. The Sparkler Cards that I entered are one of 19 other finalists and one winner selected. It’s a huge honor to be a part of this fabulous collection and I couldn’t be more thrilled! How Sweet It Is!

I recently discovered Serena & Lily, the charming nursery and children’s bedding shop, and haven’t been able to recycle a single issue yet. Each one is like my own personal catalog of inspiration and loveliness. As a child my room was no where near this beautiful or put together- I’m talking foam-for-a-mattress-on-the-floor far away, but no matter. It’s fun to browse through the pages and pretend to be young again.

Their site is also full of inspiration and great little tips for how to decorate. They even have a few downloadable PDFs so that one can create their own rope headboard or painted floor. Above are some shots from their Designer Tips Inspiration Boards. I would gladly trade in even my current room for one of these and am feeling utterly inspired! Ok, off to go rethink every room in my house…

Carveless Pumpkins

Happy Monday to all of you! I spent the weekend with my family celebrating my twin sisters 30th birthdays. We had a blast and I wish that we could have spent the whole week together. To celebrate the occasion I put together these little S’mores kits for everyone. There’s something about fall weather, a cabin and a fireplace that just scream S’mores. Besides, who doesn’t love Graham Crackers, chocolate and marshmallows?

I wish I could take credit for this fun little kit but I actually spotted this while shopping at Packaging Specialties, my favorite packaging store here in Seattle. They used clear accetate boxes to wrap up all the necessities for homemade S’mores and I just added a bit of baker’s twine to finish it off. The two bottom boxes measure 3″x3″x2″ and the top one is 2″ square. These would make a sweet guest room gift at a wedding or a nice treat for house guests over the coming holidays. Simply add a coordinating ribbon, roast and enjoy!
