California's Pet Limitation Laws / Twinkie's Pack is in TROUBLE

Hello,

Intro: For those of you reading this blog for the past few years, I am Twinkie's M. I usually let Twinkie do the talking here, but current events dictate that the human takes over. Please share this post or excerpts it on Twitter, FaceBook, your blogs... any place you are willing to, as much and as often as you can. My pack and family are not the only ones dealing with this issue. It is each animal lover's duty to see to it that everyone finds a loving home, so you all see the irony in finding that home and losing it solely based on overgeneralization of ordinances regulating the number of pets.

I am reaching out to anybody who may be able to help me either directly or by sharing useful information, regarding the 3-dog per household law in the State of California.

I live in La Canada, Flintridge--The Suburbs. Through the years, I have rescued many animals: squirrels, dogs, cats... birds, any living creature that comes my way. I have 3 registered dogs with the Pasadena Humane Society but I also have another 4 that are not--not because I wanted to cheat the city of any money, but because I can only legally own 3. A dog-hating neighbor has been on my case for over a year. He initially tried to prove that my dogs were excessive barkers, but he couldn't, since that is not the case at all. He contacted the Humane Society, bothered the sheriff's station, but he was unable to prove his case. I am very sensitive to being a good neighbor. My family and pets do not cause noise disturbances. I pick up after my dogs. I make sure that they are in their rooms (I split them up in 3 groups, inside the house) between the hours of 9pm and 8am. I also live on 7/8 of an acre, in a 3,500 square foot home, on horse property.

A list of all seven dogs based on size

1. Twinkie: 7-9 year old Chihuahua mix. The ruler of the pack. She's got 3 working legs, has frequent strokes... weighs 4 lbs. She was thrown out of a moving car, according to the rescue organization that passed her on to me to help her cross the rainbow bridge almost six years ago.

2. Frankie: she's about 4 years old. She's a chi mix too. Very timid. Took her a few years to get used to everyone. She was passed out from one person to another during a horse show I was observing. I took her home with me.

3. Pedro: Another Chi mix. He's 3 years old, his second home told me. He was being sold for $50 outside a thrift store. His second home couldn't keep him because he was so unruly. It took two years, but he's a really good boy now, and he "helped me raise the two danes". He is very attached to them.

4. Linguini: She's a dalmatian mix, about 60 lbs. I adopted her from the Pasadena Humane Sociaty 16 gears ago. This has been her only home since. She's got incontinence, major arthritis, is partially deaf, but she's also a really happy girl who enjoys every meal.

5. Rocket: Another mix, part Chow maybe. He came with my partner when we moved in together. He is about 10. He has a reputation of being an aggressive dog. He immediately adjusted to my pack and hasn't caused any problems. He is a happy senior citizen who plays well with all the dogs, and even the cats.

6. Sasha: Great dane. She weights about 130lbs. She was "given" to me when I went to get her littermate, Ziggy. She was and still is quite the handful. She's hyper and unruly. That's why her family wanted to get rid of her.

7. Ziggy: Great dane. 150lbs. I admit, I always wanted a great dane and when I saw his photo on Craig's list, my heart leapt. I was impulsive for sure. A few months after bringing him home, he was diagnosed with Wobbler's. My heart broke, but I got a CareCredit card and with it, I was able to afford the best care for him. A year after his diagnosis, he is healthier than ever. He is able to run and play with the other dogs, his pack.

As a group, this is one weird mix, but it's one that has worked well for everyone for years. All the dogs get to play and run in our huge yard. They have toys, food, water, and most of all they have each other. They are loved and get plenty of attention from their three humans. That's why we've never ran into any trouble before this neighbor. Our property is so large, that we actually have six adjoining ones; yet nobody but one person has ever complained.

I look forward to reading your comments, but please, do not offer to take anybody in yet. Some wonderful people have, but my family and I are not ready for that.

Please help me keep them all in their existing home.

Bella Needs a Loving Home

Hi furiends, while my family and I are still heartbroken, mourning the untimely loss of our beloved furiend Thunder, from The Chronicle of Woos, a tiny friend is in need. Here is what Bella's mom had to say:

Hi! I am Bella’s first Mommy I wanted to give you a little background story to help you understand Bella a little. My husband and I first bought Bella from a breeder in March 2008. Her birthday is December 20th 2007. She was so tiny she could fit in the palm of our hand. We loved her from the moment we saw her. As the years went on my husband and I loved, played and dedicated everything to our little love Bella. She has been such a Joy! This recent time has been so hard. We had children and one has been very sick for 8 months. Unfortunately Bella has not gotten the love and attention she once had and needs. We are at the point where we have decided as a family that it is time to find her another loving home for her. She is a small dog and as you know they are much like babies in the love and care they need. I am confident that Bella will love you and hope that you fall in love with her too. She definitely takes a longer time to warm up to strangers but once she does she is a sweetheart. The following are a little of the basics that she is use to (but feel free to do what is best for you and your new puppy): Feeding: she eats wet food mostly but I gave her dry food in a separate bowl for her to snack on between feedings. We feed her half a can of this “Natural Balance” (they have it at Petco or most pet stores), store the rest of in the fridge. They dry food she gets is this bag of “Royal Canin” also at most pet stores.Sleeping: Unfortunately we started letting her sleep in our bed from the beginning so she is very use to it now. But I’m sending you with her little pink bed which she also loves. It’s up to you if you want to try to break the habit or if you like the company Medical: She is spayed and up to date on shots- all records provided in this packet. If you give her table food she might get a tummy ache. The only table food we give her (sometimes) is chicken, plain cooked white rice. She does stand close when we have dinner for some once in a while droppings. I am sending her with all of her belongings: Pink soft bed Ed Hardy Carry-on Bag Pee Pads (new pack)- she is potty trained to go on these but likes them in a corner Some dresses- although she hates them Collar Leash Toys PLEASE!!!! IF at ANY time you decide its not a good fit, we will take her back…no questions asked. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or concerns.

We are all important. Ideally, when adopted it is forever, but reality sometimes bites. A tiny needs a home, an awesome one crosses over...Go hug your loved ones and tell them that you love them. That's what Thunder would have liked--his momma said so.

How to keep your dog fit?

As an avid animal enthusiast, dogs have always been part of my life, but keeping them properly exercised, especially while living in a city with minimal resources can be challenging. I first noticed that proper fitness and weight management were an issue for my two year old Australian Shepherd when he started to become more lethargic than usual. Instead of being his active self, he began spending more time lounging on the couch in the sunshine than bounding up and down the stairs, and running to the kitchen at the slight chance of receiving a treat. It wasn't long before his run across the yard become more of a waddle.

I had recently relocated to a new city, and upon arrival discovered that not only was there no dog park within city limits, but that allowing your dog off leash anywhere but your yard would result in a hefty fine, something I luckily learnt prior to being ticketed. Unfortunately, due to these set-backs, my formally athletic dog, started to noticeably pack on the pounds. My first attempt to rectify this situation, involved getting myself out of the house as well. I had always been a firm believer in walking my dog every day so with that in mind, I tied his leash around my waist and started taking him on my morning runs. It was slow going at first, as he was not used to keeping up the pace and distance, and I was far from used to having him alongside with me. After only a few days I began to notice a clear difference in him, and in the days that followed his energy level continued to increase.
With the first step in increasing his fitness completed, I began to look for more ways to incorporate simple changes into my every day routine to ensure that he was more active. Every time I went outside, to walk to the mailbox, hang laundry on the line, or to do lawn maintenance, I ensured that he was alongside. I also started keeping toys in various locations around the house, for example if I was outside hanging laundry on the clothesline, I made a point to have a ball with me so I could play fetch with him while I completed the chore.

The most effective change that I made however was ensuring that my dog received more than enough socialization time with other dogs. I live in a small neighborhood, where the majority of people I know have dogs of their own, now when we get together for BBQ's and social gatherings, we make sure to bring our dogs along. This socialization has been a great way to increase the level of fitness for my dog, as well as the other dogs in my neighborhood. Nothing tires the group of them out like running around the backyard together, chasing a ball or playing tug-a-war with a stick. Not only is my dog back to his athletic self, he is so exhausted from a day of running around that he comes in and just wants to snuggle up on the couch with me.

Little Pedro, "El Diablo", is still convinced he is a Great Dane. My mom says he's a rat-cha (a fancy way to say, mutt, or rat terrier and chihuahua mix), but I say that this particular rat-cha derives from the word cuba-RACHA (BOL) In any case, Pedro will never learn, and here's just a bit of proof:

He has no fear of those ginormous toothsies

He will throw himself in the middle of a large dog brawl without a second thought

(not sure he thinks much about anything)

As for the rest of us...

Remington Stole Our Hearts FUREVER...

A big one has left us! He was big in size and in character, big on sports, big hearted... A big loss for his family and the rest of us who learned to love him through his blog. Amazing how there were all these signs around his family today, the snow, the song, and my guess is that they'll keep on coming. Remi is a legend. The definition of a gentle giant. Recently, his family had an extremely tough decision to make...but they did, and by now they must know, that it was the only decision. We love them too much, so we must not be selfish. Lucky Remington never had to suffer any pain or fear! He is at peace now, so his family must figure out how to do the same. They did everything for him, as selflessly as imaginable, including his last travel on this earth. I have learned much from them and hope that when my turn comes, I will be as strong and loving as they are. I have always wondered about the definition of "a good parent" or, in this case, pawrent, and here is what I have come up with: it is he/she who loves their child/dog/pet unconditional and keeps questioning all decisions along the way, so that they can come up with the one that best suits that particular child/dog... always according to the circumstances. Remington had the best pawrents, that is for sure.

Snow Day Fun and a Tiny Incident

My pack had too much fun in the snow... with the exception of a little mishap.

At first, everyone was on leash, and behaved.

Well, almost behaved.

But soon, all bets were off!

Ziggy, our merlequin Great Dane, managed to slide off the bank. We weren't sure he could make it back because of his Wobbler Syndrome, which equals weakness. At first, he stood at the bottom looking all disoriented. Our humans were calling him, but the echo was confusing. He started to walk the opposite direction. Mom, with her unhealthy attachment to this dufus, was ready to dive off the edge, but instead she started to wave. Her boy finally saw her and somehow made it back up.

The Dangers of Dog Collars (and Cat Collars too)

Mom wasn't supposed to be home today, but, lucky for our Sasha, our black Great Dane, she had a last minute change of plans, so, she stayed home and started measuring our couch, hoping to find the right size cover to save it from us. She kept looking fondly out the glass doors at all of seven of us. We've come a long way as a pack. We all get along, and we all enjoy one another's company. The two litter mate Danes were horsing around (literally) with the new pack addition, Rocket, who was also playing with Pedrito, the tiny Rat-cha. I was observing them and our mom. At the blink of my tiny eyes it happened! Sasha and Ziggy, her even larger Great Dane bro, where both under Sasha's collar. Huh? Ziggy cannot ever wear a collar because of his Wobbler Syndrome. I started to bark my little head off and sure enough mom heard the urgency in my voice and ran outside. Sasha and Ziggy were SUFFOCATING each other, but Ziggy appeared to be "winning". Sasha's eyes were fading fast. She went down with a thud as mom got to her. Mom grabbed both dogs' heads and fell down to the ground, squeezing their heads together to allow for a bit of air to get through their throats. She was screaming for scissors, but nobody was coming. Finally, she was able to feel for the plastic buckle, but the tension was too great for her. As it sometimes happens at times like this, extraordinary amounts of strength come out of nowhere. Mom's fingers squeezed hard enough and Ziggy and Sasha fell apart onto the ground. Mom was shaking. The rest of the pack, watched quietly for a change. Sasha's eyes looked bloodshot and Ziggy had gotten a few cuts in the process, but they were both alive!

The potential dangers of dog collars are a serious matter

Dear dog lovers, and cat lovers too: Dog collar strangulations are common. The dangers of dog collars are numerous. Even in the case of a single dog, the collar may get caught on something, for example as they jump, and then your beloved furiend will be... think about it. Our own Linguini, about 10 years ago, was tied up in our front yard while mom was getting our things loaded for a hike. In those short moments, Linguini, jumped over our fence into our neighbors', about 8 feet below. Mom found her on her on her tippy toes doing the strangest dog dance, as she hung by her throat; another close call. We missed that one. NO more. My home is pro-active. We're changing things around here.

There are a couple of solutions out there that I know of, but feel free to add to my research. First, get us all microchipped. Secondly, if you must have a collar on us, here are a couple of suggestions. A breakaway collar, or a stretch safety collar for dogs that stretches when it's not clipped with a leash, allowing us to slip free in potentially life-threatening situations.

Peace and quiet are by now restored at Casa De Twinkie, but we will not forget again, and you better share with your friends and furiends. No uncalled-for trips to the Rainbow Bridge!

Now, go give your dog a hug and keep him/her safe!

To Pee or Not to Pee on Other Dogs

Does YOUR dog pee on other dogs? Huh? Does he?

Actually it's a quite common behavior that our Pedrito, El Diablo, the little yellow "Great Dane", is fond of. Overall, the act itself can have diametrically opposite interpretations: submission OR domination.

Let's analyze this!

These two gentle giants, are secure in their relationship. They go potty only when and because they get the urge.

There's another reason for dogs to go potty however. We will have our little DOGMINATRIX demonstrate the rest:

Lil' Pete, is a dog full of surprises. If you remember him from past posts, he is also a talented Po(o)p Artist...

Let's focus for a minute. Peeing on other doggies, is an excellent way to spread one's scent; however, one possibility is that the Pee-er is submitting, therefore showing deference to other dogs. Hmmm. In that situation, the Pee-er means no harm to the Pe-ee. Let's look at the body language in the 3 photos above. Is Pete's head lowered? NO. Is Pete showing his belly, even just a tinsy bit? NO. Is his tail down? NOPE! Well, in his case he is trying to DOMINATE. This is no subordinate urination, it is treachery and he's lucky the Great Dane litter mates are so laid back.

Mark away Lil' Pete, mark away you amazing little big dog...

Extra, Extra Read All About it!

A couple of days ago, I received the most pawesome email from Silver Lining Herbs. A kind lady contacted me to say that my bloggie had been featured on their TOP 10 FAVORITE dog blogs! She went on to mention the criteria used for their wise choosing:

"Although there are lots of dog bloggers out there, the blogs written from the POV of the dogs tend to be our favorites, especially because they're quite entertaining. We also love looking at lots of cute pictures. Through your posts, you have displayed responsible pet ownership, compassion, a sense of community, and dedication to sharing the story of your pet(s), which we admire."

This is the first thing I did when I received the email

Here's my personal take (yes, I am still as opinionated as ever)

1. I am quite entertaining, I agree.

2. My blog has cute pictures. I agree, although sometimes my human makes me post photos of the cat-astrophic kittehs. Blah

3. Through my posts, I have displayed responsible pet ownership. That is correct! I, Twinkie, love all my pets. Okay, so I wasn't crazy about all our adoptions right from the start, but I've learned to trust my humans plus I am also responsible, so there's truth to this statement.

4. I have demonstrated compassion. Being a rescue dog myself, of course I feel compassion. I was a MESS when M found me. It's been several years now, and I'm healthier than ever, with the exclusion of my useless leg, but even though I have a forever home, I always think of my beginnings and think of other abandoned animals in need of a bit of food, water, and TLC.

5. The sense of community makes me a bit emotional. You see, that was the goal, once upon a time when my mom and I had lots of spare time, and a smaller pack. I put up lots of events to feature my friends, I spread the news, put links up, contests, my Dear Twinkie column, and the cherry: GABE, the Global Animal Blogging Event. Everyone's link is still up, but unfortunately, I currently do not have much time to dedicate to my community. As some of you may know, we are an ever growing pack; a pack which includes a geriatric case, a Wobbler, a scrawny and sickly tiny dog, mois, a demanding devilish younger terrier terror . . . mom also works a lot teaching Pailates... While the sense of community is still strong, lack of time gets in the way. Sniff.

6. Dedication to sharing the story of my petS is also true. If I'm not blogging, I'm still finding a moment here and there to share through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the rest of the most important media.

Twinkie is a very appropriate name for the sweet little Teacup Chihuahua who runs this blog. He was rescued off the streets and rehabilitated despite doubts he would ever pull through. Despite only being able to use 3 of his legs, he’s a happy little dog who shares space with his fellow K9 siblings and even cats. Although this blog is centered around Twinkie and dogs, it also is appropriate for cat lovers, too!

"Twinkie is a very appropriate name" . . . They are correct, I was named after the infamous "Twinkie Defense". I also do run this blog, don't ever be fooled.

"He was rescued," is almost accurate, but I am a SHE. I'm a girly girl, kk? Good.

The rest of the text I cannot object to, until we come to the last line: "[Twinkie Tiny Dog, the blog] is appropriate for cat lovers too." While it's true, I do NOT want my blog to go to the cats.

I'm afraid it's time to wrap things up. Don't ask...

Wordless Wednesday

I'm terribly sorry, but due to the unfortunate fact that this is Wordless Wednesday, I cannot post about the development of events in my dwelling after the untimely passing of Brother Bubba and the subsequent and sudden arrival of Brother Rocket. All of you caring furiends (and Curious Georges) are going to have to wait a bit until I can post again. As you can tell, I'm still in one piece, since I'm still able to type and all... (remember that words in ai-talics do NOT count as words)

Now, can you name this new two-headed beast?

All I can say is that it has the potential to make it on the updated Designer Dog Breed List.

The Brother I Never Met

When my animal lover humans first met, they were faced with a major decision. She already had Us (me and the rest of the blog gang, 6 dogs and 7 cats), and he had two boy doggies; Bubba and Rocket, aka The Boyz. The Boyz were ... trouble. Both rescues, both aggressive, both outweighing most from my pack. So, fearing for Us and all seven of our naive kitties, the humans made an extremely tough decision: The Boyz were to stay at their initial forever home, and we were to meet them when they "slowed" down; they were both, by this time, considered senior dogs, but they sure didn't act like it!

Fortunately for Bubba, but perhaps unfortunately for our humans who loved him and wished to bring him home every day, he never slowed down. Overnight, he just went to sleep. He simply never woke up.

2000-2013

Bubba, the ferocious, beautiful brindle Pitbull mix will be forever remembered by his humans and the many he touched (and occasionally bit) during his long lifetime.

Bubba was always aggressive. The first and the second family that adopted him, could not deal with him. They wanted to get rid of him. To Bubba's good fortune, a dog lover, my pawrent, heard all the bad stories about him and went for a visit at the second family's home. He found Bubba hiding under a table, baring his teeth, and lunging at anything that moved near him. That puppy needed a home and he got it!

Lil' Bubba remained aggressive. When he got a brother, Baby Rocket, a Chow mix, Bubba attacked. He was sent to obedience school to learn how to stop being aggressive and to play nicely with his brother. He came back home many days and dollars later. The trainer placed him and his bro in a large enclosure and watched. The two watched each other for about an hour when they finally couldn't take it any longer. Muzzles were flying, as they each tried to grab the other. The trainer grabbed the hose... To sum it up, after all his training, Bubba had only learned how to walk well on leash. His nickname was Kujo.

Bubba and his purple-tongued bro, Rocket, were both alpha males and fought most of their lives, but they somehow also got along. There was no option of rehoming either one of them. Aggressive Pitbull mixes are the last to find a home, and aggressive Chows, don't fare well either.

By the time our humans decided to join their lives, the stories of Bubba's ruthlessness belonged in the past, still my pack is a vulnerable one: we me, Twinkie, the lightweight 3-legged teacup; Frankie, the scaredy-cat brindle chiweenie that squeals at the sight of another dog; Pedro, Mr. I'm Da Boss, aka El Diablo; Sasha, the ADHD slightly aggressive Great Dane; Ziggy, an ailing dog that suffers from Wobbler's and can't even move some times; and we finally have a spotted senior dog, Linguini, that can barely move.

At first, our humans used The Boyz' two story home and yard as a kennel only. They referred to it as "the world's most expensive kennel." After a few months, a couple moved into the house. Part of the deal was that they would at least try to take care of the boys. They did that and more. They cared for the boys.

That all brings us to today, the day sweet Bubba decided to go to sleep, forever, at his forever home. We got a call early this morning. Rocket is upset, missing his lifetime best rival and best furiend. He is on his way here.

Happy 2013, Sort Of...

This is a random update for our good furiends. We're slowly trying to work out a regular posting schedule...paws crossed.

We wish a happy and healthy new year to all of you!

The end of 2013 was rough on our furry and a bit less furry family. Gigi, one of the kittens born here, never came back home. We do live in the foothills, amongst wild life; coyotes, bob cats, and mountain lions. That's all I'm going to say about this. I did mention Gigi's disappearance last post, but what I did not mention, because it happened a month later, Momma Cat, Farrah, went missing, in November. My mom was and IS still looking. She coped with Gigi's loss, but Momma's disappearance was devastating.

As for the rest of the cats . . . they don't seem too rattled

While, I still rule the pack, little Pedro still pawrents his Great Danes. He is still as mischievous as ever. He has a new nickname (duh) I hereby present you with:

El pequeño diablo amarillo

Linguini is still hanging in there. She's 15 years old, but acts like she's 5 months old. She is SEEEENILE! Most of the day, she either sleeps, barks at the danes, or rolls on her back moaning with pleasure. She loves food as much as ever.

Linguini's doing pretty great, but our M's got lots of cleaning to do, if you know what I mean.

Let's see . . . oh yeah! Frankie celebrated her 4rth Gotcha Day! All she wanted was treats and M's TLC.

Some of you may remember that our Great Dane boy, our Ziggy, has Wobbler's Syndrome. He had a major episode this past weekend. He couldn't stand up, and he was depressed and confused. This started on Saturday. M kept an eye on him and isolated him (esp. from his rambunctious sissy). Sunday he was even worse. Monday he went to see the specialist. That's when he took a turn for the better. Many human dollars later, the vet prescribed another round of Prednisone which M did not start, since Ziggy's constantly improving on his own! Now that's great news!

That wraps up the major highlights of our life in my home. I am personally doing better than ever! Yup yup! I beat the odds and I'm planning to keep doing so. I'm one tough chihuahua!

I, Twinkie, my dogs and humans, miss you! Time has become quite the luxury and we interrupted our blog abruptly. Even though things haven't changed much, I decided to take matters into my own paws. I hopped on M's computer to give you a quick update. First however, I want to make sure you can see our quickie posts on Facebook from the sidebar. Look at the right column, other right!

THE UPDATE

With the exception of one of our kittens, Gigi Smudge, we're all doing great. Miss Gigi packed her bags and left us in the middle of the night. She was never happy here. She had been nicknamed, The Shadow, because that's all we got to see of her.

M wants to think that The Shadow lives at our barn and comes home at night to eat. We all humor her and agree. Now that that's out of the way and the cat is out of the bag, the good news! And it's all good from here.

We have two half brothers! M met Mr. M who had two doggies, aka The Boyz:

Bubba, aka Cujo

Rocket, aka Smiley

M says they're the sweetest doggies, but the truth is that I've never met them. They keep us separated, but I can tell you that I'm in no hurry! I did overhear something about: The Boyz blah blah blah... Twinkie... SNACK...blah blah, Cujo blah blah...Twinkie, appetizer etc. I think you get the point.

As for the rest of the gang: All kittehs, young and old, rule at night.

All of us doggies, just rule!

Senior Dog Linguini, the spotted girl, is turning 15 on November 1st. As an old geezer, she enjoys special privileges. She pretty much does whatever she wants. She also owns prime real estate, at the foot of M's bed. She is completely senile and happy all the time. I hope we all get old like that! It's pawesome, really.

Ziggy, the oversized Great Dufus, we all love, has Wobbler's. Six months ago, he could barely move. Two days ago, he reached his personal goal. He was able to jump on M's bed! He was so shocked that he fell off the other side. He got back on and started doing the zoomies! We hope he'll be with us as long as possible.

Sasha, Ziggy's Great Dane sister, is M's little project. Sasha was suffering from major Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, food aggression, skin sensitivities, Pounce on small doggies Syndrome, and you can keep adding to the list. All of her conditions are improving every day, as are our lives and hers too.

BOL. This little dog is the cause of lots of laughter at my household

Frankie, our brindle Chiweenie, the Canine Good Citizen, is having a great time. She's happy, healthy, loves everyone, especially food, and she listens well.

Last, but certainly not least, there's ME. The Twink! I'm still tiny, but only when compared to the Danes. I personally feel as mighty as ever. A couple of months ago, I suffered a stroke, which made it appear as if I were d-e-d. I was just checking to see how much I was loved. When I was satisfied, I came to. I got to milk the situation for quite a while. I am a diva. I too now share prime real estate in M's bedroom; not just one but two small dog beds! I am Twinkie Tiny Dog, HEAR ME ROAR!!!

Littermates!

As soon as the Great Dane Puppies, Ziggy and Sasha, joined our pack, many of our furiends' pawrents, approached us via email and Facebook, giving us sound advice on raising gentle giants and commenting on the difficulties and potential hazards of raising littermates. Worry not, dear friends.

The "lil' Dane" in the midst is way more attached to the Danes than they are to each other.

These two littermates are inseparable.

When M took the two Great Dane puppies to Santa Barbara, leaving the orange one behind, the lil' one got so depressed that he stopped eating and took to going around the house sighing deeply.

Lil' Pedrito (a rat-cha), the orange blur, has infiltrated the littermates, creating an even stronger bond with Ziggy than his actual sister.

Sasha puts up stoically with her new littermate, Pedrito, the Orange Great Dane.
