Why do I wear make up?

Why do I wear make up? Have you ever ask this question to yourself? I chanced upon this when I'm browsing some videos on youtube. It's an interesting subject. I never asked myself why and I never thought of it until now.

So why? Why am I wearing make up? I will answer it one by one. It's like a getting to know me but in regards with make up. So lets begin!

1. When did you begin loving makeup?

I remembered when I was in third grade, I wore a cherry colored lip balm to school that my mama gave me. I told my classmates its not lipstick its just the candy that I ate. Remember the lips candy back in the days? They are suspicious but I feel somewhat cool wearing them. Its like my little secret. That's how I started loving make up.

When it comes to how I started using make up, it began during my college days. Clear mascara, lipbalm, lip and cheek tint and powder are my go to products during that time. But I got hooked after college when I started earning money and I can buy different shades and types of make up.

2. How do you feel without makeup?

The way I feel with make up on. It does not bother me. I rarely wear make up on weekends because I want my skin to breathe after five days of painting my face. I can go out bare faced.

3. What do you like about makeup?

I like that it can change your look from sweet to formal to vampy. It makes you feel like you own the world when you know that your foundation is well blended, your blush looks natural and your lashes makes you look awake even if your dead tired. When I'm down I just look at my make up and browse my beauty and fashion books to relax myself. Do you think its weird?

4. Three Holy Grail items?

Mascara, lipstick, blush. By having these three you are very ready for battle. With the right application you will go miles.

NYX Girls Gloss in Sorbet

This is my first ever NYX product. It's a NYX Girls Gloss in Sorbet. I got it when I went to Robinsons Mall Manila during a cosplay activity there. It's from an online shop (www.gwyshop.com) that opened a booth during the event.

It cost me 100 php.

Now let's get into the product. The gloss is shiny with a hint of glitters. It is not that thick so it does not leave you feeling like your lips are full of gunk. It has a satiny and glassy effect, perfect for lazy days. I would not recommend using it alone because it is very pale for my liking and it washes the color off my face. You wouldn't want that, would you? But it's Halloween so I guess I can pull it off. :)

Lorys Hair Cream

New hair means new products to try. Hooray for that!

This is my first ever attempt to buy some hair products for curly hair. As I was browsing the hair section at Watsons, I chanced upon this Lorys Hair Cream. I saw that it is for curly and dry hair. Hmm, a perfect fit.

The Lorys Hair Cream that I bought is deep moisturizing and has shea butter. According to the packaging, Lorys Shea Butter was developed to deeply condition and treat curly and dry hair.

I like the packaging, it's colorfully attractive. The price isn't bad at all. For 185php you will get a 450g jar. Upon opening the lid, I notice the product is not full to the brim like the ones I saw on other blogs. The product has a light yellow color like the ones on the typical hot oil products. It has a liquidy consistency unlike most hair treatments that Ive tried that has a thick consistency. The smell is not that enticing but is mild enough for you bear it.

I've been using this for a week now as a hair conditioner. So far, the difference of this to my usual conditioner is my hair became less frizzy, tamed and a lil bit moisturized.

I will finish it all up and try out other brands to see what works best for my me.

My Hair Story: From Straight to Curly

Your hair is your crowning glory. I for one is always thinking how to make my hair pretty. My definition of a pretty hair is shiny and straight. I cannot count how many times I had my hair straightened, relaxed and rebonded. I noticed that my hair became brittle and dry. And of course, the ever dreaded hair fall. From washing, combing and styling my hair, falling hair is always present.

So last year I decided not to have my hair straightened and let my natural hair grow. And now, I'm half way there. Instead of straightening my hair, I opted to have it colored.

My hair transition is a pain in the ass. You can refer to the pictures below on why.

Here is my before hair. It is straight and shiny. Very easy to maintain.

Then, this is the dreaded stage. When it grows you can see the the curly thingy saying hi! It is very awkward to see some parts of your hair that is poofy and curly and the other part is straight.

I just tie my hair like this so as not to attract attention.

And now, here is my hair at the moment.

It's naturally curly and I had it colored.

This is what happened after I waited for 1 year and a half.

I think it's worth it. :)

Last Hooray Summer Nail Tutorial

Summer is my inspiration on this nail tutorial. This is so easy to do. As simple as applying your usual nail polish, adding a 'lil bit of bling, topping it off with clear nail polish and off you go.

Here are the things that I used and a step by step guide in achieving this nail look.

First, I chose a base color. Mint is my summer fave color. It's refreshing and very cool to look at. I chose The Face Shop nail polish in GR501. It's the right mint color that I wanted. Apply two coats on the nails to really see it's real color.

Then, I added a flower nail art decoration (honestly, I don't know what it is called) that has a similar color to the base color. I used a Cinema Secrets Spirit Gum to glue the flowers. Make sure the base color is dry before gluing the decals. I placed the flowers on the right side on the nails on my left hand and the other way around on my right hand. The number of flowers depends on the length of the nails.

The last step is topping it off with a clear nail polish. I used Caronia Nail Care Fast-Dry Top coat.

It's so easy, right?

I'm on hiatus for more than a month now. Been very busy with work and other activities. Did not had the chance to take pictures, review some products and blog about it. Anyway, I now have a list of products to review so hope this month will be filled with more posts.

Revlon Nail Polish in Extravagant

The changing weather nowadays will make us in a not so good mood. One minute it’s really sunny, the next it’s raining. But don’t sweat it. Adding a lil bit of your fave color will definitely boost your happiness. One of my fave color is pink. I know pink is very popular to lil girls but were never too old to appreciate the prettiness of pink.

I found this Revlon nail polish in extravagant for 252 php. I know it’s not the nail polish that I usually buy coz of its hefty price, but sometimes it’s good to try out some things that are a bit out of your comfort zone to experience the difference with the ones that you usually have. The first thing that I noticed is there’s a lot of content. Let me quote Bimby, the son of Kris Aquino on one of his commercials. “It’s what you call siksik mama.” :) You will really see its true color even on the first application unlike on some affordable nail polishes that you need to apply a couple of times to achieve its full effect. Like in make up this product is really pigmented. And after a minute or two it’s already dry. The color extravagant can be described as a metallic pink color but it is subtle enough to wear to work.

This color for me screams summer. :)

The Teen Vogue Handbook

I need inspiration. Yes, inspiration to pursue what I've been loving for the past years. When I saw this book 2 years ago, I can't keep my eyes off it. It's like I gotta have it no matter what.

The Teen Vogue Handbook An insider's Guide to Careers in Fashion is one of the books that I'm constantly browsing. I got it for 599 php 2 months ago. I know it's already an old book but it is still applicable until this time.

It caters to the younger crowd. I mean those who are in high school, college and fresh out of college. As what it says on the title, it is a guide if you want to have a career in the fashion industry. I'm no teenager but it is still very helpful to me. Giving out ideas and whatnot for you to get a glimpse of the world that they are into and most of us wants to be a part of. Every aspect of it. From designers, editors, stylists, models, make up artists and photographers you name it they have it.

After every chapter, there is what they call a tool kit that one should have for them to use in their line of work.

These are the essential things to have if you want to be a make up artist. Simple but very useful things.

For me this serves as an inspiration to work hard, keep on practicing and never give up. You will not succeed if you just give up with one failure. Life is full of failures and its up to us to make it right.

Nude and Glitter Nails

Summer is officially here. Notice the heat that is welcoming us when we wake up and until we close our eyes. Summer is really inevitable and who hates summer?

I've seen alot of bright colors this season, especially coral. So what best way to compliment your loud and colorful outfits? Nude is the key. So in my nails I opted to apply nude nail polish and top it with glitters. I can't get enough of it. Glitters add an oomph to any nail polish color and base on my experience when I'm using glitter polish it lasts for weeks. No more hassle to reapply when it chips.

I'm using nude color from Caronia in Touch of Tan at 33.25 php and glitter polish from Bobbie at 29.75 php. For you to find a nice nail polish, it does not mean you need to buy expensive brands. There are a lot of local brands that has the same color and texture as the high end ones but with a very affordable price.

So here it goes.

First, apply the nude color.

Then apply glitter nail polish on bottom part of the nail up to the top using a diagonal motion.

Also apply on the tips.

Finish off with a clear polish.

Belle de Jour 2012 Planner

When New Year steps in, ideas on what I will do with my life all came pouring down on me. What will I do this year. How can I make this year worthwhile and memorable. Will this be a good year? Do I need to explore other opportunities? Will I be able to conquer my fears?

Those are some of the things that I'm asking myself subconsciously. I don't really like talking to myself. It just happens. I just let it be.

Anyway, first things first right? How can I organize my life if I just think about everything. All inside my head. What if I forget about it. My ideas will all just go to waste. So I got myself a planner. Its the same planner that I have last year but unfortunately I did not update it religiously. I'm too lazy to write my whereabouts and plans last year. This year will be different. I promise to be diligent in putting all my ideas and plans in this planner.

Of all the planners that I saw I choose this Belle de Jour 2012 Planner. Know why? It's because the cover has an Eiffel Tower. :D Silly me I know but what can I say I'm kinda weird. Bought it for 598 php.

Well, I really need to plan everything this year. I want to experience things that I never experience before. Travelling more perhaps. This planner really reminds me to go to places and explore. It also has some girly add ons that definitely us girls can find useful. Some of which are menstrual tracker, events tracker, bills and cash flow tracker and some helpful articles at the start of the month. Plus points are the discount coupons. The layout is simple and very feminine. I get very motivated when I read the saying at the top and bottom of each page.

I hope by December I will be able to tell myself that by using this planner I achieved some goals that I want to achieve.

The Body Shop Candied Ginger Lip Balm

The Body Shop Candied Ginger Lip Balm is from The Body Shop's holiday collection. I bought it after the New Year for 195 php. It's like your regular lip balm. Mom said when I put it on her lips it smells like tiger balm. You know what that is right? It's an ointment for body aches.

Like my mom, when I first smelled it, its a bit strong for my taste. But when I used it for a couple of times, it became nice and relaxing. Plus it gets the job done. It really moisturizes my lips. I use it alone for that natural shiny effect or as a base for my lipsticks. I cant wear lipstick alone 'coz it really dries out my lips. Chapped lips anyone? Another plus is the packaging. The product is secured in a tin can and not even once did it open in my make up bag. So no smears or whatsoever. The design is simple with a holiday feel. Spot the gingerbread man.

The only downside is that when you leave it in a hot place it perspires. Look at the picture above. I need to wipe it first before using it.

The Body Shop Olive Oil Dry Oil Mist

Your body is a wonderland that’s according to John Mayer. Why not pamper our body if it’s a wonderland? Products like lotion, body mist and body butter will make our skin moisturized.

The Body Shop Olive Oil Dry Oil Mist is listed as one of my December 2011 favorites. I have been using it in behalf of lotion for more than a month now. Why do I like it? Like is an understatement love is more suitable. It’s now more affordable at the price of 495 php, before its 795 php. The packaging is small enough to bring when going out of town or something. The spray nozzle makes it easy to dispense. Usually it takes 3 sprays for each leg and 2 for each arm to fully cover my skin with oil. I already said in my previous post that when I’m using it I feel like curling up in bed and just read a good book. Until now I still feel that way. The smell is very relaxing and stays long, like when you go out at 8 in the morning and be back at 5 you can still smell the scent. Also, it is very moisturizing especially now that the weather is colder than usual. No need to check if your elbow or knees are dry and flaky. It’s not sticky at all and gives a dewy finish. Only good words for this simple but super intense product. The only downside is that on what I heard it’s just until stock lasts.

Oh well, I still have mine and will just wait for December to come to be able to get my hands on it again.

How to apply false eyelashes

They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. And the first thing that a person notices is the eyes. When we are talking to someone we are looking into the eyes and notice that if we want to see the face of the person we are looking into the eyes.

So what better way to make your eyes noticeable? Here are some ways that I think might help. Dust on a very colourful shadows. I’m sure all the people will really look at you, if not stare.

Kidding aside, putting on false eyelashes might be the key. *wink*

I’m no pro or whatsoever regarding this thing but this is what I do when putting on false eyelashes without the help of expensive tools and without making it a very, very difficult task to do.

You will need of course false eyelashes (got it at the Landmark, glue (Cinema Secrets Spirit Gum) and eyelash curler (Watsons).

My step by step guide on how I do it.

Enjoy!

1. Curl you lashes.

2. Then put glue on the sides of the false eyelashes.

3. Wait for like 10-20 seconds for the glue to sip in.

4. Gently put the falsies as close to the lash line as possible, make sure that it is in line with your real lashes (if the falsies are longer than your real one you can snip the excess before putting on glue).

5. Press your real and the fake lashes together. Wait for the glue to dry (fan yourself if necessary)

6. Finally put on mascara. I prefer to put mascaras both on the upper and lower lash line.

7. For more drama line your upper lash line. I used liquid liner for the upper lash line and a pencil liner for the lower lash line. Lining your eyes really completes the look.

You can experiment with different kinds of lashes. It really makes a big impact when you’re wearing it specially when going out at night. I can still count on my fingers how many times I've worn false eyelashes. I’m not still comfortable when using this; I can feel something alien is on my eyes.

Last weekend we went to Binondo to have a feel of the Chinese New Year. We walked the streets of Chinatown together with a lot of people who are buying tikoy, hopia and lucky charms.

This Sugarcane drink is very delicious at 15 php.

Ate some delicious dumplings that I think is the best in Manila. Thinking about it makes me crave again. Yum!

Then, we went to Intramuros to unwind and stayed at Starbucks for a feel of old meets new Manila. This is the best Starbucks ever 'coz of the ambiance and lesser people. Not crowded like in the malls. You can really relax and enjoy your frapp. :)

Maybelline Long Extreme Stiletto Waterproof Mascara

Done with the old mascara, it’s been with me for a year now. I know mascaras should be used for just six months but I don’t just want to throw away things that are still useful. So here I am after a year choosing another mascara to try.

When I passed by the Maybelline counter I saw that some items are on sale. So grabbed the mascara that has a 30% off discount on the label and off I go.

I got the Maybelline Long Extreme Stiletto Waterproof Mascara in black with the original price of 349 php. Bought it at 244.30 php. Why I chose it? Well because it is the only mascara that was on sale in the counter and I don’t want to waste more than 300 php just for mascaras ‘coz in my opinion since it cannot be used for a long period of time I just need an affordable one. In my case the only mascaras that I used are the Maybelline ones. I have not tried other brands except for the clear Avon mascara that I used when I’m in high school. I don’t even know what make up is all about that time. Yeah, I’m a late bloomer. J

This mascara has a dry texture that I’m not yet used to ‘coz after applying it you are good to go not wait a few seconds to dry it out like the ones that I own previously. It gives you length, but not to the extreme, fullness and the color is really black and not a bland black. You don’t need to use faux lashes, well during regular days, ‘coz it likes multiplies it. And they don’t smell bad either. The wand is just right for the upper lashes but it’s a little big for the lower lashes, it cannot reach the tiny ones. It’s just that the packaging is quite big since when you think of stilettos the first thing that comes to mind is it has thin heels. I think it is much better if it is thinner to really put up to its name stiletto.

December Favorites

This holiday season is a great way to go back to blogging.

Also, I wanted to greet you all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!! It's never too late! :)

Let us all hope that next year will be a year full of happiness and love.

Anyway, here are my faves for this month.

My silver Havaianas flip flops. My best friend during this holiday shopping. Walking can be stressful specially when walking around the mall and looking for the perfect gift for the special people in your life. and when trying out shoes it’s very easy to remove the slippers than wearing strappy sandals, right? I bought this during the 40% sale at the all flip flops store in SM MOA. It’s a very great deal, truly satisfied with the purchase.

And now, The Body Shop Olive Dry Oil Mist. All of us went gaga went it announces a comeback. And this month is the perfect way to use it all over again. Hmm, the smell of olive oil is very relaxing it makes you wanna curl up in bed and read a pretty good book. Right now, I’m reading pretty little liars. I know this book (ebook in my case) is for teens and I’m far away from being a teen but who cares I’m enjoying reading it.

And speaking of smelling nice, let’s now go to my fave scent of the month. Bath and Body Works fragrance mist and lotion in Secret Wonderland is my go to for this month. The smell is suitable this season. I can only describe the smell as buttery with a sprinkle of strawberries.

And last is the Bath and Body Works anti-bacterial hand spray in Sweet Pea that I bought from my office mate. It’s an 70% alcohol with a smell of a fragrance mist/ cologne. I like this better than the hand gel. Just two sprays and your hands are clean and smell oh so nice. It does not leave a sticky feel like the hand gel.

And lastly, my fave drink for this month is hot chocolate milk drink with marshmallows. It’s so Christmassy!

Careline Lip Gloss Enriched with Vitamin E

This is what I bought when I went to Robinsons Place Ermita. I read in alot of blogs that this item is exclusively available at Robinsons.

You pretty much know about this product. But its never too late to talk 'bout it, right?

It's the Careline Lip Gloss Enriched with Vitamin E that cost 60 php.

Bought the colors 112 and 104. The 112 is a light pink gloss with a glittery finish. It has a glass effect. I used it over a red lipstick to make the color youthful and not overpowering.

The 112 is a bright pink shade with less shine. The image did not show its true color. I used it over my lip balm for days when all I need is a bright lippie to cheer me up. The color is pretty and eye catching. My fave among the two.

The smell is fruity and sweet with a little bit of plastic. That's the best description I can give.

I must say the packaging is nice and fits the price. It does not look cheap but the design/ print on the packaging fades after several uses. Good for everyone whose in a budget but wants to look pretty like a teenage girl.

This saying sums it all up. You get what you pay for.

I bought the brush holder 'coz I don't have a container that holds my make up brushes but at the same time make it free from dust. As you can see in the image it has a cover. And what I like most is you can bring it anywhere when you have make up gig and it has ample space for your lovely brushes.

HAIR VELCROS in pink - 80 php

This makes applying make up on the forehead easier. Especially if your client has baby hairs and bangs. The hair stays in place while you do your magic.

TWISTIE SMALL SPONGES - 100 php

I will use it to apply liquid foundation. This is really an essential for hygiene purposes. Bacteria builds up over time so you need to throw away sponges and say hello to a new one every so often.
