Does anyone who works in construction tell the truth?

When one homeowner learns the truth, she immediately realizes he’s breaking the law by charging more than he can legally charge for a day’s work. Now, she wants her money back, and when he doesn’t return it, she makes some phone calls.

So (I didn’t know this at this point in time), my mom hired a guy off Craigslist to do plumbing work on an obvious leak from the upstairs bathroom.

I came home and found him wearing a plumbing contractor t-shirt. I assume he’s contracted because he wants $750 for the fix. He does everything in about 3 hours, so seems right.

He finds a screwdriver head sticking out of the drain to the shower, crazy weird. Turns out this isn’t the problem it’s the hot water valve failing. Maybe seal, maybe seal, maybe part not sure even now.

But then she realized he wasn’t actually a contractor.

Go to pay him, he wants zelle.

This is alarming because I realize he’s not a contractor licensed or insured. I found out he’s a journeyman moonlighting while wearing his contractor t-shirt.

He charged me 750. In CA 500 is the max a noncontractor can get paid for a single job.

I initially did pay him 750. I waited till the next day, and he asked to come do a minor fix. That minor fix would have added a day, making his total for the job up to 1k, 500 per day.

But I still had a major leak, and he priced a minor pvc job as if he’s a contractor wearing a contractors t-shirt.

They went back and forth about the issue via text.

I declined and told him about the law and explained I’m mad cause I felt deceived, I sat on it for about 10 hours after showing him the law and explaining why I’m so upset.

We exchanged a number of texts, all I told him was effectively he violated laws and deceived me and I left the door open for him to make it right.

He never offered money time additional fix nothing.

I thought he understood what I was saying as in person he spoke perfect English as if it was his first language but in text it seemed he didn’t know how to read, Maybe, it was weird.

She sent him a text with a clear ultimatum.

Honestly I would have accepted many forms of owning a mistake including an I’m sorry I didn’t know, he never attempted anything till I sent this 10 hours after informing him of the law

“You have 24 hours from this text to Zelle me 250, I will be contacting ****** plumbing to report you using their trade dress while working. If you do not zelle me the money I will report you to the san diego plumbers union as you’re for sure under them as a journeyman.Then I’ll report this to cslb.

All you had to do was apologize and accept making a mistake instead you stood your ground.”

I did not ask for all of my money back as he did do work needing to be done, but I gave him the opportunity to be legally in the clear to be at 500.

She’s wondering if she went too far.

I contacted his company and informed them of the whole scenario and explained that I assumed he was a contractor because he wore their trade dress. And currently have more damage then before.

He responded, saying he didn’t know contracting law, which maybe is true, but I highly doubt as it’s extremely strict in CA AND he’s a journeymen with 7 years experience.

Am I a jerk for getting this guy fired and possibly getting him jail time over misrepresenting himself in my home as a contractor? (I still have to pay a contractor to fix the remaining work and a drywall guy to come fix half the ceiling now)

I assume he may not have known the law, but he shouldn’t have been wearing a shirt saying he was a contractor because that’s clearly misleading.

To be fair, her mom is the one who hired him.

Why did her mom hire the guy but she’s the one dealing with paying him? She should’ve found someone to fix the leak instead of her mom. Maybe that’s a lesson for next time.

It seems that everyone in the comments thinks OP is in the wrong and that the plumber didn’t actually do anything wrong.

She should just let it go and do more research before hiring someone next time.

It is not uncommon for someone to be mistaken for an employee at grocery stores, and usually that results in an argument or other minor conflict.

Sometimes, however, the results can be much more wholesome.

That is what happened to the young lady in this story when an older shopper thought she worked at the grocery store and asked her where the bread was. The young lady had some extra time, so she helped her find it, even though she didn’t know exactly where it was.

Once they found it, the older lady assumed that she was just new to her job and complimented her for taking the time to help.

So, a few years ago, I took a break from bartending – around my third year of university.

Trying new jobs can be very rewarding.

Instead I took a job in a bookies. For anyone not from the UK, a ‘bookies’ is a bookmakers shop, where you go to place bets on dog and horse races.

It was super simple and easy, given nowadays the computer does most of the work.

She seems to really like the job.

All I really had to worry about was posting the sports newspapers on the walls, tactfully avoiding occasional sexual harassment, and passing on the serious stuff to my actually seasoned manager, you know?

And as a side note – it’s not that bad of a job. I’ve still kept a CD disk gifted to me by a patron. He was sort of like a grandfather figure and we bonded over music, hence the CD.

Good to know, let’s get to the story.

I just had to put a little disclaimer there incase you think my job was always super trashy. Although, we did have our trashy moments.

Local Slang: ‘hen’ in Scots dialect (story based in Scotland) would be equivalent to ‘love’ or ‘hon’. ‘Aye’ is yes, or just being in agreement with a statement etc.

Now, that’s boring. Let’s get to the story.

Everyone has to go shopping.

I’m in my bookie uniform, which is a polo shirt and plain black trousers, with very plain black shoes.

It’s time for my break, and I go to a local supermarket to pick up a sandwich and a drink.

I can see why she is confused.

While I’m in a random aisle, a sweet (VERY) old lady stops me.

Elderly lady: “SCUSEE me, I can’t see any bread?”

Me: “hmm?”

EL: “Bread, you know? …bread? Where do you keep the bread here?”

It is a confusing situation for both of them.

It hadn’t really registered to me at this point, given the ‘uniform’, she would thought I was at work.

Me: “Uhh …uhm… I think it’s maybe over there?”

Hey, she guest it right.

I had the time – my shop was literally two minutes away – and just took it upon myself to go with her, and I thought I’d know where the bread and baked stuff was anyways.

EL: “Aye, aye – that’s it, my love. There we go! Well done.”

Me: “Aye!”

How cute.

EL: “You’re doing lovely, hen. Don’t worry, you’ll learn”

She thought I was a new girl at the supermarket.

Just because you don’t work somewhere doesn’t mean you can’t be helpful. It is always the right thing to help others out when you are able.

There is a time to vacuum…and a time not to vacuum.

Those are words to live by, my friends.

And I think you’ll agree that I’m right after you read the story below.

Let’s face it: getting some good shut-eye is important for all of us and when we get interrupted unceremoniously, some of us get upset.

It’s the natural order of things!

In this story, a person talked about why they got into it with their mom because she was vacuuming at a less than ideal time.

AITA for getting angry at my mum for vacuuming my room at 7 am while I was asleep?

“This morning around 7 am my mum came into my room and started vacuuming while I was asleep.

I woke up confused and angry and told her to get out. I said something along the lines of “how would you like it if I did this to you after your night shift?”

Okay, this is already getting weird…

She said she’d hurt me.

And I asked her why is she doing this to me.

She said that it’s her house or something like that.

And I think I also said I’d do it to her and see how she likes it. Which I really wouldn’t.

The thing is, I was genuinely half asleep during this argument and I honestly cannot fully remember exactly what I said word for word. I remember being disoriented and irritated because I’d been woken up suddenly.

Well, this sure escalated quickly!

Since then she’s completely shut down on me. She refuses to speak to me, threw away a gift I got her in front of me, and cancelled driving me to a job interview she had previously offered to take me.

She did hand me some cash for transport to get there, but refused to actually drive me herself. She also said she’s no longer giving me the monthly £200 she usually gives me.

It’s not like she’s sitting around doing nothing…

For context, I’m a recent nursing graduate so I’ve moved back home and the £200 isn’t just random spending money.

I do 90% of household chores with cooking and cleaning and also do admin work for her company, so it’s more of a contribution/payment arrangement than an allowance.

Also she doesn’t want me to leave home. She wants me to find a job in the city we live in. Which has become nearly impossible.

This seems like a HUGE overreaction.

I’ve tried apologizing and speaking to her multiple times today. I offered to make her food and tried to explain I was half asleep and not fully aware of what I was saying.

But she explicitly said she doesn’t want anything from me and doesn’t want to talk to me anymore.

I understand I was rude and reactive, but I also feel like vacuuming someone’s room at 7 am while they’re asleep is inconsiderate and her reaction now feels extreme.

My school was holding an event and I wanted to be an escort for it.

I applied with some of my friends, but then they backed out, but I wanted to socialize and possibly form new friendships.

She was a very good friend, I used to play games with her and i just valued her a lot but then we grew distant because of exams and stuff.

We just recently started talking a little again.

She called me asking if I really wanted to go and if i was 100% sure.

This girl sounds like she may have some possible ulterior motives.

Then she brought up “you know your friends Dash and Hunter are not going?” and I said yes I’m fully aware.

Now I really wanted to go and I’m not just going to compromise for somebody else.

But, this puts me in a tough spot because now I’ll have to deal with her friends that she originally wanted to go with, and they may treat me badly in the event itself, AITA?

Imagine working as a cashier at a retail store, and the cash register accidentally rings up an item at a lower price than it should. Some customers are lucky and get the item at an unexpected discount until the error is fixed.

What would you do if a customer who got that discount complained when the error was fixed and the price when back to normal? Would you give him the discount to be nice or tell him he owes you money since he wasn’t charged enough the first time?

In this story, one man is in this situation, and he is pretty frustrated with the customer. He’s not about to give him an extra discount that he doesn’t deserve, and his way of handling the situation is actually pretty funny.

Little story my nephew encountered while working at the counter this week.

Last monday, the store he works in had a promotional beer item for sale. A sort of mini-cooler box for a six-pack of beer.

Now on that monday, there was a mistake with the pricing. First of all, on the display, it was written they were €6,75, but they were actually €5,99.

Furthermore, the register incorrectly added an additional €1,20 discount on it. So in total, the box (+ a six pack of beer in it) costed €4,79 for the first day. The six pack alone normally costs around €5,15. The next day, they fixed the incorrect discount.

A customer was upset.

On the 3rd day, my nephew got an “angry” customer at the information desk he was stationing.

Customer: Monday I bought this cooler box, and yesterday I bought another one as a gift, but this time I didn’t get the discount.

*Shows 2 receipts showing that he got a €1,20 discount on the first one, but not the second one*

Him: That’s correct sir, the discount was an error that was fixed yesterday.

The customer should’ve been grateful he got a discount on the first one.

Customer: That doesn’t matter, it should have been the same price! I want my discount!

Him: That’s not possible.

Customer: Ofcourse it is… Come on, it’s only €1,20, just give it to me! Don’t be so difficult about it. You owe it to me.

Him: Actually sir, you owe us money because the discount was incorrectly given…. would like to pay in cash or card?

*Enter €1,20 in the register*

That’s not what he meant!

Customer: What…? I…? No…!

Him: It’s only €1,20…

Customer: Never mind then…

That customer was obviously confused about the pricing difference, but he should’ve been grateful that he accidentally saved money instead of pushing to get the extra discount again.

Prices can change at anytime. It can be frustrating when the price goes down but you paid full price a few days before, but customers should be grateful if they actually got a good deal and paid less than the current price. Underpaying is better for the customer than overpaying.

Neighbors retrieving things from your yard after a storm is one of those situations where etiquette isn’t always top of mind.

A homeowner who agreed to let his neighbor come collect his trampoline from his fenced yard set one condition, which was to be notified before he showed up so he could get his dogs inside.

But when the two neighbors kept missing messages from one another on the Nextdoor app, his neighbor decided to let himself in the backyard to retrieve it anyway.

But when the dogs started going nuts, the homeowner was very displeased. And when he confronted the neighbor about it, the two clearly weren’t on the same page.

We had a storm Thursday evening that was apparently pretty windy.

The neighbor who lives behind us has a trampoline that ended up in our yard.

We have a six-foot fence around the perimeter of our yard.

I had never spoken to these people before.

So the homeowner received a message from the neighbor.

The husband messaged me on Nextdoor asking if he could come by Friday evening to get it, saying he needed to wait for friends to help lift it over the fence.

I said sure and asked him to message me when he was headed over so I could make sure our dogs were inside.

I heard nothing on Friday and he didn’t come.

The homeowner continued to go about his weekend without a second thought, until the neighbor messaged again.

Saturday I went about my day and ran my errands.

He finally sent a message around dinnertime Saturday saying he wanted to come then.

I didn’t see it because I was busy and didn’t have my phone right there.

He didn’t wait for an answer and headed over with two other friends.

We have a Ring doorbell, but again I didn’t hear the notification on my phone as it was in the other room.

Turns out, the neighbor had just let himself in — and it caused a huge stir in the household.

He proceeded to let himself into my yard via the gate.

Our dog started going nuts when she saw people in the yard.

I went outside and told him it would have been nice if he had notified me and that I didn’t appreciate him just wandering into my yard.

The neighbor didn’t seem too remorseful at all.

He made some smart replies on his way out.

Who just walks into someone’s yard they don’t know, even to retrieve an item that belongs to them?

This homeowner sure runs a tight ship.

At the end of the day, didn’t this homeowner want this trampoline out of his yard by any means necessary?

Neighbors are supposed to be a friendly face, not an adversary.

This user needs to take into account his neighbor’s intent.

If he’s so concerned about security, this homeowner has a lot of work to do.

At the end of the day, this neighbor clearly didn’t have bad intentions. The two had agreed the trampoline needed to be removed, but after a bunch of needless back and forth, the neighbor likely decided he just needed to get on with his life.

If this had been a total stranger lurking around the homeowner’s back yard, then that would be different, but it wasn’t.

He knew exactly who this man was and what he came there to do. And having a trampoline that didn’t belong in his yard removed actually stands to benefit both parties.

Sometimes you just have to let things go.

In this story, we get a glimpse at what it’s like to work behind the scenes at a local news station. I learned a few things while reading this. For example, everyone working on the show has to wear a headset so they can hear directions from the director and producer.

This makes sense when you think about it, but it’s also related to the problem in this story. You see, one of the producers talks so loudly that it hurts everyones ears.

She doesn’t seem to understand that this is a problem and simply defends herself acting like anyone who complains just doesn’t understand.

Now, one employee is considering raising this issue with her supervisor, but she’s not sure if that’s the best way to handle it.

AITA if I go to my supervisor before going to my coworker?

So I work at a local news station and if you have no experience or knowledge of how the production side works all of our team has headphones with a mic on it so we can communicate to each other.

The main purpose is to listen to the commands of the technical director, but as well as the Producer just in case he/she changes something in the show, which happens often.

Here’s some more context about OP’s job and the group chat.

During the week I run the graphics of the show and video/packages and for the whole team it’s KEY to listen to the director because he/she is telling us when what and where to run things.

We also all chat during the show mostly during commercial but also sometimes during the show depending on the story, but we try to keep this to a minimal.

Here’s my issue: we have two producers, but one of them is super loud and doesn’t stop talking. He/she was just moved to our show (I work mornings and he/she used to work nights) but everyone from night said he/she never shuts up.

OP isn’t the only one bothered by this producer.

I have Thursday and Friday off and I play fortnite with some of the team and last Thursday our director said our Executive Producer came to drop some scrips but also said “I am going to talk to ***** he/she needs to shut the heck up.”

Well nothing has changed.

Our director has a really low voice (he admits it), so I have to raise the volume of the headphones but it’s still at reasonable Volume (12 of clock on the nob).

It really hurts my ear when he/she gets into a conversation and raises his/her voice. I literally take my headphones off but I can only do it for a couple seconds cuz if not it’s gonna affect to show.

The producer seems unwilling to understand what OP was trying to say.

He/she acknowledge it once when we were talking about something and I had to remove my headphones cuz it hurts and I told her “Sometimes you kinda scream when you get into a conversation and it hurts and it’s not necessary.”

She wasn’t rude in her response but you could tell she was defensive when she says “I don’t scream.”

And I apologized and was “I just meant you can be loud.”

She responded again in a defensive tone “I don’t talk loud. I project. I use my diaphragm, they teach you that in theater. “

You don’t need to project your voice when you have a microphone!

I just turned around and rolled my eyes.

In my head I was like “witch this ain’t theater. We have mics for a reason, you don’t have to project.”

To be real, he/she IS loud.

OP is conflicted about what to do next.

I’m conflicted, cuz I hate when people go to a supervisor when it could be fixed by talking with the person directly.

Also, the team also agrees with me that he/she is too loud but they are too nice and nonconfrontational.

I also ask myself if I’m part of me wants to just go to the Executive Producer cuz I’m supper annoyed about this person but this person has a bit of history of being somewhat unreasonably stubborn.

I have no issue with confrontation. I love debating and have no issue arguing but I don’t want this person to have something against me. I don’t want any awkwardness.

So AITA here for not talking to her a second time?

Go to the Executive Producer about the problem. Maybe the other producer will listen if her superior talks to her about it.

One way or another, this producer needs to stop being so loud! It seems like it’s a known issue among all the employees. Someone needs to explain it to her in a way she’ll understand. Could they record her or something to show her how much louder she is than everyone else?

Back in the early to mid nineteenth century, everyday family life was very different from what we know today. It was usually the case that a family would consist of a mom, a dad, and a number of children, and while the father would go out to work, the mother would stay home to care for the kids and the household. This was the way in which two adults shared the weight of family life: the mom took care of things inside the house (cooking, cleaning, childcare) while the dad earned the money.

While some people still consider this to be the ideal, the reality is that this lifestyle isn’t viable for most people in 2026. For starters, many women don’t want to be confined to the home – they want equality, to be able to build a career and a life of their own. But more than that, it usually isn’t possible to sustain a household on a single income, since the economy has changed drastically in the last hundred years.

So when the woman in this story heard her friend’s boyfriend bashing modern women for not conforming to the 1950s ideal, she knew she had to say something. Because he was no 1950s husband either.

AITA for telling a friend’s boyfriend that he can’t have a traditional wife because he’s not a traditional man?

I (25, female) was hanging with some friends and their significant others last week.

To cut a long story short, my friend’s boyfriend kept talking about how women no longer want to be traditional wives, and that’s why many of them are single.

I responded that in the 21st century, women don’t feel like they need a man in order to provide the lives that they want for themselves.

He kept going on about what women used to do, and how they were all about taking care of their husbands and household without complaining.

But ultimately, this pushed her to respond further.

I let it go on for a while, but I got tired of hearing his rant and told him that he can’t have a traditional wife when my friend goes 50/50 on all the bills with him and works more hours than he does.

I continued with he isn’t a traditional husband and can’t provide for his household like he’s supposed to so that my friend can stay home and do those “traditional duties.”

I may have become the jerk when I told him that it sounds like he wants another mommy and not a wife.

It became silent, and he told me that my way of thinking proved his point.

Yikes! Let’s see how this went down in the aftermath.

The conversation pivoted elsewhere and I thought that was it, but I got a message from my friend saying that her boyfriend was upset at me for what I said and that I embarrassed him.

He wants me to apologize, but I don’t think that I should have to, being as I was responding to his rant about traditional women.

My friend said she doesn’t think I’m wrong but doesn’t think I’m right either, and I should’ve just let him talk because he’d had a few drinks.

AITA?

Where did her friend find this boyfriend, the 1950s?

It’s not like he made a passing comment, which of course she likely would have let go. He kept going on about it and clearly pushed everyone too far.

If there’s anyone who should be apologising, it’s him.

The truth is exactly this. If he wants a ‘traditional wife’, as in a woman who takes care of everything – cooks, cleans, has the dinner on the table for when he gets home, not to mention taking care of the kids and extended family responsibilities, then he has to step up. Because the only way that would become a reality is if he earned enough to support the entire family – paying all the bills, covering the cost of food and clothes, vacations and luxuries. If you want a traditional wife, you have to accept that she will be bringing in no money, and her quality of life – and that of your family – is all on you.

But that’s even imagining that he could find a woman who wanted to be a ‘traditional’ wife. Most women want to work, they want autonomy in their lives, and they want to split the responsibilities for the family and the home 50/50. And the ones who don’t? They need caring for properly by a man, not some lazy, misogynist who just want to be taken care of. This guy needs a reality check.

I often wonder what kinds of people would actually want to live in an HOA neighborhood. The answer is people who like rules and who like enforcing rules even when those rules are the ridiculous.

The answer is the type of people who like measuring grass with a ruler and ratting out their neighbor for breaking even minor rules.

The woman who wrote this story strikes me as that type of person.

Imagine going for a walk in your neighborhood, and your child is scared of a statue in a neighbor’s yard. Would you avoid walking by that house, try to talk to your child about it just being a statue, or would you ask the neighbor to remove the statue?

AITA For Going To The HOA to Force My Neighbor to Take Her Frog Statuette Down.

Recently I (35F), my husband (34M), and my daughter (6F) started to walk because of coronavirus.

We’ve been doing the same route everyday. It is about 2 miles and there aren’t a lot of cars, so it is a really good route.

Recently one of our neighbors put up a frog statuette up for display outside their house.

I find it really creepy and so does my husband. My daughter hates it. She is absolutely terrified of it. Now She refuses to go on walks.

She decided to talk to the homeowner.

Earlier today I went to the house to ask them to move the statuette so it is no longer on display.

I knocked on the door and a middle aged man, maybe 55, opened the door. I told him the situation.

He seemed sympathetic, but he said that he and his wife really like the display, so they won’t be taking down that statuette.

She talked to another neighbor.

After that I talked to my next door neighbor. He is the vice president of the HOA so I was wondering if he could force them to take the statuette down.

He said that the statuette might be a violation of the HOA bylaws. He went to look at it and sure enough it is.

Now they’re being forced to take down the statuette and are being fined for violating the bylaws.

My husband says that I took it too far. I see it differently. The statuette is destroying the aesthetics of the neighborhood and is scaring the children. AITA?

What an awful Karen! She definitely sounds like the kind of person who loves living in an HOA and the kind of reason most people hate HOAs. I agree with her husband. She definitely went too far.

I feel bad for the neighbors. I’m not sure exactly how a frog statue violated HOA bylaws, but it doesn’t seem like a big deal to me. It’s awful that they have to pay fines all because one Karen’s daughter was irrationally scared.

I also feel bad for her husband. He knows she messed up, and now the whole neighborhood is going to hate both of them because she’s like the HOA police.

I feel bad for their daughter too. She’s irrationally scared of something, but instead of dealing with the situation in an appropriate way, the mom tries to make the world change for her and succeeds. That’s not exactly great parenting.

Imagine working in retail, and there’s a certain time of day that’s extra busy. This time of day also happens to fall exactly at the time your shift ends. That gives you two options. Do you clock out and go home, or do you work overtime to help out?

In this story, one coffee shop employee chose the second option until she got written up for working too much overtime. Instead of fighting it, she decided to comply.

This was several years ago when I worked at a [redacted big name] coffee shop.

My shift was 5am-1:30pm, and often around 1pm giant groups of kids on school field trips would come through the area (this was a coffee shop located in a major CA city, very close to a bunch of museums).

I had been working a lot of overtime because of it, to help my coworkers through the rush.

She was told not to work anymore overtime.

I got written up by my supervisor for doing too many overtime shifts without approval.

I was explicitly informed to not work overtime again, I had lost overtime privileges until corporate deemed I could have them again, and working overtime again prior to that would result in further disciplinary action.

The day after I was written up, right as my shift ended, 3 big buses FULL of kids unloaded and filled the shop.

The manager clearly didn’t think this through very well!

At 1:30pm on the dot my watch alarm went off and I went to go clock out.

The store manager who wrote me up the day prior said, “wait where are you going?”

I reminded her that I’d lost my overtime privileges, clocked out, retrieved the shift drink I’d made for myself right before the rush, and left.

The next day I was informed my overtime privileges had been re-instated…

That didn’t last long! It sounds like the manager realized her mistake pretty quickly.

One person guesses at what the manager said/thought when writing her up for working overtime.

This person would’ve done things a little bit differently.

The manager really messed up, but to be fair, she learned her lesson super quickly.

The suggestion in the last comment, would be really petty. I wouldn’t want to watch my coworkers suffer. It’s not their fault. I think she handled it well by simply leaving at the end of her shift.

This isn’t really even malicious compliance, it’s just compliance. She knew it was going to be a disaster, but she was told not to work overtime. She didn’t really have any other option but to clock out.

No matter how hard you try, there’s just no getting through to some people.

In this story, a woman spent the morning helping her sister, who was home sick with the flu. She made her tea, cleaned up a mess in the kitchen, took the puppy outside, and eventually made herself breakfast before sitting down to eat.

Then, almost immediately after she finished, her sister asked her to go pick up some takeout.

The problem was that she had literally just eaten and didn’t want to make a separate trip when her sister could have mentioned it earlier.

So she offered what seemed like a reasonable compromise. She told her sister she would happily cook breakfast for her instead.

That did not go over well at all.

My sister is home from school with the flu. I don’t start work until 3 pm, so when I go up this morning my sister was lounging on the couch listening to an audiobook. That’s obviously fine, as she has the flu.

Right away, I was immediately scrambling to get her tea which she asked for (no please or thank you, btw) and take our new puppy out to use the bathroom so he didn’t go in the house.

I spilled salt trying to get the tea because someone had left it loose in the cabinet for some reason, so I was also trying to clean it all up at the same time. Honestly that is all fine.

After she ate, she offered to cook for her sister.

Then I made myself Breakfast and ate.

Literally the second I was done she asked me to go get her takeout food.

I was basically like bummer you hadn’t asked me 10 minutes ago so I could have gone and got something for both of us, but I’ll cook you breakfast if you want.

She acted completely shocked and told me I was being incredibly selfish, and I should just do it for her because she has the flu. I am honestly super sensitive and have struggled with shame for a lot of my life and this hit me pretty deep.

Suddenly, her sister started making her own breakfast.

I restated that I would make her breakfast but didn’t want to go get her takeout, and I thought that was reasonable.

She was just like whatever and told me to go away fairly rudely.

A couple minutes later, she stumbled into the kitchen acting sicker than I know she is and began making herself breakfast.

I felt really guilty and was like wait a second I offered to make you Breakfast, and she lied and was like you never offered.

Then, her sister sounds really annoying.

I was like yes I did and verbally went back over the times when I had.

She was just like well I don’t really like your cooking. Then she started making herself a smoothie. Once it was going, she was like, “You can bring this to me when it’s done,” (the process takes under 60 seconds).

It finished, and I brought it to her and she said thanks. But has been acting as if I’m lazy and disappointing. Almost like she did me a favor by letting me bring her her smoothie to alleviate some of my guilt.

I do feel guilty and really bad about myself right now but my head doesn’t think I deserve to.

AITA?

And turning down one request doesn’t suddenly erase all the other things someone already did for you.

Imagine living in a building that has assigned parking spots in the parking lot. Not everyone who lives there has an assigned parking spot, but you do.

What would you do if a new neighbor started parking in your assigned parking spot and refused to park somewhere else even after you talked to him about the issue and had the landlord explain the problem?

In this story, one person was in this exact situation, and she decided that a prank might work. She actually knew quite a few pranks from her childhood and enlisted a neighbor to help her pull off a prank that would scare the neighbor.

Neighbor Continues To Park In My Car Space So I Scare The Living Crap Out Of Him

I live in a 20 unit complex but only half of us have assigned parking spaces, me being one of the lucky ones.

My car space is right next to my front door and there is a sign that clearly states that the car space is allocated to my unit number.

But this doesn’t stop some of my neighbors or their guests from parking there.

A new neighbor seemed to think he was above the rules.

A new person had only recently moved in when he started parking in my spot, usually for most of the day and occasionally over night.

I confronted him and asked him to not park there, as he didn’t have assigned parking and was required to park on the street.

When this request was ignored I went to the landlord who sent him out a letter.

When this too was ignored, I thought of a petty revenge plan.

Being predictable makes it easy to get pranked.

He would park there around the same time in the afternoon and when he would leave his car there overnight he would leave around noon the next day.

He was entitled but predictable.

When I was a kid I read books about practical jokes like putting double sided tape on the toilet seat or baby powder inside a powdered doughnut. This book brought me hours of joy by pranking my friends and my well deserved entitled mother.

While thinking of my plan, one of those jokes came to mind.

She recruited another neighbor to help.

So I went shopping to find what I needed. A roll of industrial strength double sided tape and a huge roll of bubble wrap (the ones with the really big bubbles).

Now all I had to do was wait until he left his car parked in my spot overnight which didn’t take long.

I asked another neighbor if he’d like to be my partner in crime, and as soon as I told her what I was planning, she was all in.

There are lights outside the unit complex at night so I we could see what we were doing but they aren’t bright enough to expose us.

The prank wouldn’t be very noticeable at first.

In the cover of moonlight, we put double sided tape all over the back tires of his car and proceeded to stick the bubble wrap in multiple layers on the back of each wheel.

We wedged even more bubble wrap between the back of the front wheels and the car so that when he reversed his car, there would be even more bubble wrap he’d be driving over.

The back bumper of his car was hiding most of the bubble wrap so it was very unlikely that he would notice anything out of the ordinary.

OP was able to watch the drama unfold.

I have surveillance cameras outside of my unit with a large monitor inside and one of the cameras points directly at the car park so I had a direct view of his car.

The next day I kept an eye out for him, and sure enough, around noon I saw him walking to his car. Brilliant!

He started his car and as he reversed out of my car space, there was the loudest and most deafening banging sound I’ve ever heard.

The noise was so loud that I could hear it clear as day from inside my unit.

Let’s see how the neighbor reacted…

I heard him scream and saw him duck down, as if the sound of gun fire was real.

It took him a few minutes to get out of his car to investigate what made the noise and when he did, all I could hear was him shouting inaudible sentences with multiple swear words thrown in for good measure.

The other neighbors came outside to see what was going on, as did I.

ME: (faking concern) “OMG what happened?”

Playing dumb seemed to work.

NEIGHBOR: “Who the heck did this????!”

ME: “I have no idea.”

I’m in a wheelchair and couldn’t possibly be capable of doing such a horrible thing.

It wasn’t easy to undo the damage.

He spent the next few hours trying to get the bubble wrap off his tires, and remember when I said the tape was industrial strength? I’d gone out of my way to find tape that would NOT come off easily.

Eventually he got it off but for the next few days his car made that sound like when you get chewing gum stuck under your shoe.

He never parked in my car space again.

I’m honestly surprised he stopped parking there since he didn’t know OP was responsible for the prank.
