Apartment living comes with a certain amount of noise you just have to accept. Bass vibrations rattling your floor for four hours at a stretch probably isn’t part of that deal.

A renter has been feeling exactly that a few times a week, and he’s not even sure if he’s allowed to be annoyed about it.

Am I overreacting about neighbor bass noise during the day?

I already spoke to my neighbor about it, and he actually came up to my apartment and heard the noise himself.

He agreed that it is noticeable and said he would try to reduce it, but the issue still keeps coming back.

This neighbors is sending some serious mixed signals.

I honestly expected it to stop after that since he seemed understanding, but it hasn’t.

He is generally very polite and active, but the problem remains.

This tenant isn’t the only one to be bothered by the noise.

Even the neighbor in front of me mentioned that they sometimes hear noise from his unit, and the neighbor below me also hears it occasionally, while I still experience it in my apartment.

It’s not constant every day, but about 3 times per week I can feel vibrations coming through the walls or floor, usually during the day, and it can last around 3–4 hours in total.

It’s not really loud music that I can clearly hear, more like bass vibrations.

The positive point is that after 11 PM he always stops, so nights are quiet.

Now they’re wondering what they can do to put an end to this.

At this point I’m wondering if I should stop trying to deal with it directly with him and instead go through the landlord or property management, because I don’t want to keep bringing it up repeatedly and I’m trying to avoid any kind of conflict or harassment feeling.

I’m also wondering if this is something I should just tolerate as normal apartment living or if it’s actually not acceptable and I’m overreacting.

It seems like there are a lot of secret deals going on out there these days…

I’m talking about people who work for companies trying to pad their income by doing jobs on the side for clients and customers who don’t want to pay a company’s set price for services.

I’d venture to say that some of this is shady and some of it is simply businesses not knowing what the market is like at a given time.

In today’s story, a customer talked about how they got a heck of a deal on ceiling fans being installed in their house when they found out a clever way to save some money.

They Priced Themselves Out of a Job.

“I had two ceiling fans that I wanted installed upstairs.

I’ve lived at my new place for a year and noticed the guest room and office can get a little warm, so I looked around for a light/ceiling fan combo and found two I liked.

Next step was finding a certified electrician to install them. I’ve done fan installations before where I lived, but it’s a pain.

Standing up on that ladder, neck in an uncomfortable position, not enough light, fiddling with those wires while trying to hold the unit in place.

I get on Google and find a company. They say next day they can have someone out, provide an estimate and install if I decide to proceed. Person arrives on time, we go over what I want.

What?!?!

Take a look at the panel to be sure there isn’t any strange wiring issues, I inquire about the price, asking if it will be around $200 and he laughs a bit and says it will be more like +$700.

I say that’s too much, I’m not going to pay that much for just installation, I’ve already bought the fans, maybe if that was the total cost. I apologize for wasting their time and wish them a good day, again, apologizing for wasting their time.

A few minutes go by and there is a knock at my door. I immediately know what’s about to happen. Its the electrician and he just wanted to inform me that they do side work all the time.

I ask how much do they charge and they said $200 for both ceiling fans. They came back the next day, probably on their day off, and installed both in less than 2 hours, I paid them in cash. Fans installed, I saved +$500.

The company followed up with a text inquiring if I wanted to give them a review. It was an automatic text, sent out through some system that wasn’t smart enough to determine that I had turned their business down and refused.

Well..

It just wanted me to give them a review and provided a link to their Google site. I texted back that I had refused service, so there wouldn’t be a Review to post, but if they insisted, I could post that they wanted to charge me an outrageous fee and I refused their business.

They texted back to defend their pricing. I just texted them stating I was confident I could find a qualified electrician that was licensed, bonded and insured to do the work for much less.

I know because they had just installed the two fans – the very same electrician/employee that they had initially sent out.

Some folks just don’t get it…

They’ll never know that they missed out on any further Electrical jobs because of their greed in pricing a simple job at an Emergency rate.

I get everyone needs to wet their beak, but trying to charge that much for just facilitating the professional provided was just greedy and they deserve the way it worked out. It sure felt like petty revenge.”

My oh my, how times have changed…

When I was a kid, my parents told me that if a friend’s parents made me food, I was to clean my plate with a smile and thank them over and over again.

But these days?

The kids are in charge!

“About a month ago my daughter (young teenager) had a friend over after school and she decided to stay over for dinner without planning.

I called her mother of course and made sure everything was okay and that I would feed and take her home at a certain time. She does this kind of often and I always enjoy inviting other peoples’ kids into our home and cooking for them.

I had been planning to make a Venetian liver dish that day, and thinking nothing of it, I made it and served it.

Liver isn’t for everyone…

During the dinner my family all enjoyed the meal as they are used to eating liver but unfortunately the daughter’s friend was a bit caught off guard and really didn’t enjoy it, she didn’t make a scene or anything and actually was very polite but she took one bite and wouldn’t take another.

I gave her some fruit and some snacks to tide her over until she could eat at home and everyone’s night continued as normal until I eventually drove her home.

I’ve always been a liver lover.

I grew up in in Northern Italy and liver was just something we ate. My parents cooked liver pretty frequently and it was a very common and popular dish in restaurants, especially in my region, Veneto.

In Veneto, liver is not even particularly cheap, its just something people eat because they enjoy it its a delicacy and local pride.

Obviously, I understand that some people don’t like it, it can be a food you have to get used to first like coffee or licorice but it was honestly something I always took for granted and never thought twice about serving to anyone.

What the hell?!?!

Anyway, the day after I got an irate call from the friends mother about how her kid had come home from my house completely starving after I had said I would feed her and only offered her a “disgusting” liver dish and that she would think twice about letting my kid stay over again.

This came as a shock to me as I honestly hadn’t thought it was a big deal, and it really made me think if I was being crazy or a irresponsible parent/neighbor by subjecting her kid to eating liver.

I am currently at a gift shop with my fiancée.

I have a walking stick with me, which I effectively use as a cane.

This is due to balance issues I contracted after a head/brain injury last year.

This man was confused about why he was mistaken for a shop employee.

I guy walked up to me and said, “Do you work here?” I said “No”

He said “Oh, I thought because of the walking stick, you just work here.”

I have no idea why that would be the case, lol.

My fiancée said that I must seem “extra stable/in-control” since I have 3 points of floor contact, due to my walking stick.

That’s confusing indeed. How would a walking stick say that OP works at the gift shop? Seriously, how? Their confused reaction was totally understandable. Sometimes, it’s really difficult to understand what goes on in a customer’s mind.

Imagine working at a store that sells alcohol, but you can’t sell it because you’re under 21. It doesn’t sound like that big of a deal. All you’d have to do is have another cashier or your manager help you out when a customer tries to buy alcohol.

In this story, one cashier tells a tale of a time a drunk man tried to buy alcohol from a coworker. This particular store had a rule that you can’t buy alcohol if you’re clearly drunk. The cashier was under 21, so a manager had to help with the sale and break the news that he couldn’t buy a case of beer he was holding.

You might imagine that telling a drunk man he can’t buy beer after waiting in line to buy it might create quite the scene, and it did; however, that was far from the most dramatic part of this alcohol sale that didn’t happen.

Fellow cashier catches her alcoholic step dad trying to buy alcohol while drunk

So for context, I work in a state that doesn’t allow you to sell alcohol if you’re under 21.

This story happened about a year ago. I was working an evening shift and this very clearly intoxicated man comes to my register with a case of beer. I could smell him from the end of my conveyer belt.

He gets to the front and asks for cigarettes, so I direct him to the only register that can sell cigarettes.

The cashier on that register is under 21 also so I notify a manager that the cashier will need assistance soon for an alcohol sale. I also mention that the man is clearly intoxicated and, therefore, cannot purchase the alcohol (not sure if it’s the law or just store policy).

It was time to break the news.

He finally gets to the front of the line again and the cashier rings up everything but the alcohol.

The manager goes to the register and informs the man that he cannot buy the alcohol because he’s clearly intoxicated.

He argues that he walked there and should be allowed to purchase it because he isn’t driving.

This confuses my manager and leads to 2 or 3 higher up managers coming to the front to try to sort it out.

It was about to get crazier!

This is when I hear the cashier behind me screaming something I can’t remember exactly but it was something along the lines of “that’s my step dad, he’s an alcoholic” and “I’m calling my mom.”

The cashier runs over and begins yelling in her step dad’s face while calling her mom.

When her mom answers, the cashier tells her what’s going on and the mom starts yelling at him too.

Long story short, he didn’t get his alcohol but he might’ve gotten a divorce. Not the craziest story, but definitely an eventful scenario to watch unfold.

That would be a dramatic scene to watch unfold!

It’s really sad when a family member has an addiction that they just can’t seem to kick. It certainly sounds like the man trying to buy alcohol in this story had an addiction since his stepdaughter and wife were both so mad at him for trying to buy alcohol. Maybe he had promised to stop drinking. If that was the case, he clearly broke that promise.

From the point of view of the person writing this story, it would be almost like watching a TV show happening around you in real time. I can see why this customer interaction would stick with you.

Just about everyone makes decisions when they are young that they regret as they grow up. Some more than others.

What would you do if you had made a variety of terrible choices that caused your parents a lot of heartache, but now that you are on the right path, your parents want to know every detail about that time in your life?

That is what the daughter in this story is experiencing, and she doesn’t want to share certain things about what happened in her past. Her parents, however, say that they need this information for closure.

I (F 23) have been sober from alcohol and weed for over a year now.

People often do things they regret when they are young.

When I was in college, I made some very poor choices where I was drinking heavily, regularly smoking, and sleeping with a lot of different guys, all of which I hid from my parents.

I had a lot going on in my life at the time, although as I’ve admitted many times, it wasn’t an excuse for the bad decisions I made.

Her parents were obviously trying to help her, even if she wasn’t following their rules.

During my senior year I lived in a property that was owned by my parents and they let me live there rent free.

Although they put rules down, I disregarded most of them and continued doing what I had always done in college.

It is great that her parents could help her get back on track.

Long story short, my parents found out about my habits and came down hard on me. A they should have.

By this time, I was illegally buying weed and drinking excessively. I was, very nearly, an addict to both. My parents intervened and got me back on track to where I am today.

People don’t know exactly why they make every bad decision in their lives.

Now that I’m doing better, my parents, particularly my mom, have been demanding answers from me of why my life turned down that particular path of bad decisions.

I’ve explained as much as I can, some I don’t understand myself, and some details I’m keeping to myself to protect them. For example, they want the name of the person I illegally bought my drugs from, but I won’t tell them to protect them.

They aren’t entitled to the answers they want.

Sometimes I feel like they try to coerce answers out of me or make up elaborate scenarios of what really happened.

They didn’t deserve what I did to them, what I did to myself, or how I took advantage of them when I was addicted to substances, but I have built my life back together and am doing so much better.

What kind of closure does she even want?

My mom says I’m being selfish for holding the answers that could bring her closure, but there’s nothing to close anymore.

So, am I wrong for withholding the supposed “answers” that would bring my parents closure, even if I think it’s protecting them?

Her parents need to realize that she is an adult now and they aren’t entitled to this type of information. She has no obligation to share, and certainly not to share on their timeline.

As an adult, she can share what she wants. Her parents aren’t entitled to more.

Her parents are just concerned, but they are definitely crossing some boundaries. I think she should explain to them that it would be impossible to give every single detail, so they need to find a way to be ok with what they know.

If there is any risk of relapsing back into the bad choices, however, she should be aware of that and allow her parents to help her avoid future issues.

AITA for leaving the office after accidentally dropping my colleague’s laptop?

I (21F) am an intern at a recording studio (less than 10 people), and there are tables for us to sit and do our work.

The tables are arranged 4×4 (four tables on the left, four tables on the right, with a gap in between to walk through).

So we’re all sitting next to and in front of each other.

It all started with a simple mistake.

Anyway, yesterday was just a very tiring day for me (probably related to me having menorrhagia). I wanted to go home on time, as normally I would stay a bit later after work. So whenever I’d go to my desk, I would walk through the gap to sit down, and vice versa.

I took an Uber to go home, and I wasn’t in a rush at all. I was talking to Colleague A while standing in the gap when Colleague B suddenly called my name. I turned around, and then I heard a loud crash.

It turns out the hard drive attached to Colleague C’s laptop got caught between two of my bags. The hard drive was probably sitting at the edge of the table, and the cable got snagged on my bag as I turned around. The laptop fell, along with the hard drive.

She froze, but offered to pay for damages.

I froze for a moment before helping. I apologized to Colleague C immediately. I asked if there was anything I could do to help and whether there was any damage. All he said was, “No, no worries.”

I asked again, and he said, “It’s okay.”

The laptop seemed fine—I checked before leaving—but I think only the hard drive cable was broken. He didn’t explain exactly what was damaged.

Then came the group text.

I decided to leave anyway, considering I’d already ordered an Uber before it happened, and it was almost there. Before I left, I told him to let me know if there was any damage. I texted him again saying I was sorry and asking him to let me know if anything was damaged. No reply.

Ten minutes later, he posted in our work group chat: “Next time, consider looking left and right if you’re dying to go home that much.”

He chose to post that sarcastic message in the group chat instead of replying to my private message. I’m not sure what to do or if there was something I could’ve done better. I even offered to pay for any damages.

It really seems like she did everything she could to make the situation right.

She apologized as soon as it happened and made it clear she was willing to pay for any damage. When her coworker told her everything was fine, she left after asking him to let her know if he found anything wrong later.

Yet, rather than talking to her privately, he chose to criticize her in the company group chat, and that just seems unnecessary.

Hopefully he handles something like this differently next time. Accidents happen, and she took responsibility for hers. There was no reason to embarrass her in front of everyone else.

When you have a job, it is important to be there to work, but if your doctor says you are too sick, then you need the days off, and your boss should be understanding.

What would you do if your doctor said you needed three days off to recover, but when you returned, your boss said that your attendance was unacceptable and that he was going to fire you in one week?

That is what happened to the guy in this story, so rather than working for the week, he walked off the job immediately, leaving the team very short-staffed. This alerted other members of management to his boss’s bad practices, but of course he didn’t get fired.

I certainly don’t blame this guy for leaving when he knew he was getting fired anyway. There is no reason to put in the work at that point. Read through the full story below and see if you agree.

Worked for a bad airline company. Let’s just make up a name… United Blairlines.

The pay might be based on the cost of living in different areas or other factors.

At this company they started a smaller company that could hire and train people to run the planes, but pay them way less at certain airports.

Where my colleagues at other airports were making over $20/hr, I was getting paid $10.25 for the same- and sometimes more- work.

Free flights are an amazing benefit.

It honestly would scare you to know how little the people who are the ones that make sure your plane takes off safely are paid.

All of us had two to three jobs to be able to pay rent, and we were all in the job for the benefits- free flights to anywhere in the country- on standby.

Stomach pain can be debilitating.

Anyway I had a boss, we’ll call him Jim. I could tell many stories on how terrible of a boss he was, but this one has actual malicious compliance.

I had to go to the hospital from the airport because of intense pain in my stomach. It turns out that because of stress caused by that job, my intestines decided to stop functioning.

He is welcomed back with an extra busy day.

Anyway I spend the day in the hospital and then they gave me a note saying that I didn’t have to work the next two days.

I told Jim’s boss (since I hated talking to Jim). When I went back into work three days later. We had five people total to load all luggage, load the water, and push out five planes in a little over an hour.

The hospital said he needed the time off to recover.

Already an incredible amount of work for so few people. We had our morning work meeting to discuss how bad it was going to be, then Jim asked me into his office. “Your attendance is unacceptable.” He said.

Dumbfounded, I asked what he meant. “You’ve been late a couple of times, and now missing the past three days…”

If he actually said he doesn’t care about policy, he could get in real trouble, I bet.

I said “Jim, I have the note from the hospital. According to work policy, that shouldn’t affect my attendance.”

“I don’t care what work policy says. I’m going to fire you.” Again I cited work policy since we were “protected” by a union. I said “Jim you have to give me an attendance warning before you’re allowed to fire me for attendance. This is the first time I’m hearing about attendance, so you can’t fire me right now.”

Honestly, who can blame him?

Jim said “it doesn’t matter, I’m going to give you a warning right now, and when I get back from vacation next week, you’re going to be fired, now go back to work, my decision is final.”

So, I told my coworkers what happened. Then I decided alright well if next week he’s firing me, I’ll just leave now. Even though their day was about to be crazy since now four people were working five planes, they all said screw this place, get out of here!

It is hard to believe Jim was surprised.

So I left and went to get breakfast (this all happened at 4am.)

As I’m enjoying my meal, Jim calls me. I happily ignore. He calls three more times and then texts me, asking where I was.

Leaving immediately helped to shine a light on Jim’s poor management.

I told him “you fired me, why would I keep working for you?” No response. I try to soak in the sight of Jim running between planes like a chicken with his head cut off.

I don’t imagine any plane took off on time that morning. I get a call from HR, and the union rep, and the General manager, who is Jim’s boss. They all said Jim was wrong and asked me if I could come back to work it out.

I think he made the right decision.

But quitting felt so good, and I felt such weight lifted off my shoulders thinking about not working there anymore, so I never went back.

Some more info. Although this isn’t so satisfying, it’s more a testament of United Blairlines complete lack of ethics.

This guy needs to be fired.

Jim got in really big trouble when he had a guy who had a shoulder injury and had a note and told Jim several times he couldn’t do super heavy labor.

Jim sent him to the bag room by himself anyway. Imagine having to lift 300-700 50-70 pound bags over your head per hour all while running between bag carts and the belt.

That guy should sue.

Needless to say the guy tore his shoulder and had to get surgery on it. They still didn’t fire Jim.

Instead they “promoted” him to manage the workers who did ticketing and no manual labor. As far as I know, Jim still works for United. My coworker still cannot move the way he used to two years later.

It is unbelievable what some managers will do to their employees, and even worse that companies let it happen.

When kids are growing up, their relationship with their parents slowly transitions from one where they are a child to one where they are an adult. This almost always leads to conflict and arguments.

What would you do if you were getting ready to apply to colleges and wanted to apply to out-of-state schools, but your parents wanted you to go to school closer to home?

That is the situation the young man in this story is in, and it led to a major fight with his parents, during which he said some very hurtful things. Now he is grounded in his room, and he thinks he may have crossed a line during the argument.

There are advantages to going to school close to home as well as moving away.

I (17M) was talking to my parents about applying to college after dinner last night. They have always suggested I go to school in state, but there is a particular city I want to live in, which is over and 9 hour drive from where I currently live. 2 of my top 3 schools are in this city.

I already struggle with feeling not good enough for the best schools, many of which I desperately want to attend.

His parents do seem a little overbearing.

My parents, however, are unconcerned and blow me off when I ask them for help with the frankly terrible process of beginning an application.

They frequently tell me to “do it myself” and never offer any help. My parents also have always been very involved in my future and life, for instance I had my cell phone monitored until last year, I pay a certain portion of my paycheck to them, and they gave me a short list of majors to choose from, which was fine, but stifling.

Wanting to keep him close to home is not a bad thing. Even if it should not be his only consideration when making the decision.

So, last night, they flat out told me that I shouldn’t apply to one of my top choices cause they want to “keep me close to home”.

I told them both that though I understand them wanting to be near me, I don’t want to live my life as a copy of theirs.

These all seem like very normal arguments as kids become adults.

They got really mad at me for saying that, and my dad yelled at me because I am “ungrateful for the comfortable lifestyle I have and have no respect for hard work.”

When he said that, I got pretty mad and told him “This is exactly why I want to move away from you guys. I just want my own life.”

He shouldn’t have yelled at them, but these things are normal.

Huge blow up ensued. I am now relegated to studying for the ACT and AP exams in my room, even though both are months away.

I feel like I took it to far since my parents have been really good to me and have provided me with more than most people have, and I feel like I owe them.

AITA?

This seems like a good, healthy family with parents and children who love each other. Of course, there will be arguments about big decisions like this. Apologize for saying things that may have crossed the line and move on.

Arguing with parents is completely normal and nothing to worry about. While it can seem like a big deal at the time, what the person in this story is dealing with will almost certainly blow over.

He should listen closely to the advice his parents are giving, and then make his own decision. Just keep in mind, he will have to live with whatever comes as a result of those decisions.

Just got served a letter from the HOA lawfirm courtesy of my downstairs neighbor…..for walking in my rented condo.

I’ve been renting this 1 br condo sinch March. Two floor building, I’m on the top. Downstairs neighbors moved in around early May. They own the condo.

I was courteous since move in — I know the building is old with wooden floors.

I was having friends over for a get together (rare, I don’t normally entertain at my place since it is small) and so I left a note on their door with my # letting them know to text/call if there were issues.

Their complaint seemed reasonable.

They never seemed to have any problems that night and I never heard from them, but a few weeks later in late May I was moving furniture around in my bedroom at about 10 pm (probably not courteous, but it was a saturday and I wasn’t really thinking).

They sent me a rude text telling me to “stop whatever I’m doing over their bedroom”

So I apologized and stopped for the night.

One night, OP was up extra late.

In August I had two friends over and we were up late hanging and drinking in my unit. We weren’t being loud though.

I usually go to bed at 10:30/11, so my neighbors might have been surprised to hear me moving around in the unit at 3 am.

This was one time, in August.

They were probably louder than they thought.

They texted me and told me to stop “pounding around up there” lmao.

We quieted down and ended up just going to bed. Never heard from the neighbor since.

These were isolated incidents. I can’t even think of a time other than that where I was up past 12 AM in my apartment.

That escalated quickly!

It’s December now. I got a letter from a lawfirm that represents the HOA stating that my unit is breaching the bylaws of the condo association by distrupting the peaceful living situation for the unit below me “by banging and stomping on an ongoing nature and at all hours of the day, often as late at 3 am.”

I had no idea this was an ongoing issue??

I live alone, go to sleep early everyday, and I weigh about 100 lbs so I’m not throwing my weight around.

Here’s some more context about OP’s daily habits.

I do work from home here, but I’m mostly sitting at my desk.

I listen to music through my airpods only and tv is quiet.

Sometimes I get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, so maybe that is the part referenced in the “ongoing issue” portion, but even if it wasn’t, I’m just going about my life?

So what if I had guests over once or twice. We weren’t tapdancing on the floor or anything.

OP needs advice.

I’m just worried that I’m not going to have enough evidence to dispute this and I’m going to face legal trouble/fines/etc.

I don’t really know how this works, this is my first rented unit after college.

Has anyone dealt with anything similar? Any advice, anyone know what to expect when dealing with an HOA law firm (did not expect that??)

Talking to the neighbors doesn’t seem to be an option.

Oh and I forgot to mention that the people below me don’t seem to be interested in talking to me.

They ignore me when I say hi to them in the halls, and seem to prefer to go through management for everything now after lodging their first two complaints through texts months ago.

It’s fine, they don’t have to talk to me but I have been doing my best to be nice to them.

Well that’s unneighborly! Honestly, it does sound like OP has been loud several times really late at night, and getting up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night might be loud enough to bother the downstairs neighbors, not that that’s an issue OP can do anything about.

I agree that the letter should’ve gone to the landlord not OP. The landlord could then contact OP about the issue, but she shouldn’t have to deal with this letter, the HOA or their lawyer.

Gathering evidence about the downstairs neighbors sounds like a good idea, and maybe get an area rug or something in the bedroom to try to soften the sound when she needs to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.

I can understand being annoyed at noise at 3am, but the claim that it’s an ongoing issue is over the top.

If I were her, I’d reach out to the landlord and explain the situation.

When you are disabled, the company you work for has an obligation to do what they can to accommodate you and help you perform your job duties.

What would you do if your manager was constantly trying to get you fired even though you were doing your job and you were not just a disabled veteran, but you were also diagnosed with a debilitating disease?

That is the situation that the guy in this story found himself in, but when his manager escalated his attempts to fire him to HR, the HR rep decided to offer him paid early retirement instead.

Things really worked out perfectly for this guy in the end, though I suppose the manager got what he wanted as well (at least until he got fired shortly after). Check out the full story here and see what you think.

I am a 100% disabled vet, but I still wanted to work for as long as I can.

Some people just aren’t cut out to be in management.

I worked in a large company that contracted to many of the big oil companies. For years I had excellent reviews and the customers loved me.

My manager got promoted and one of my coworkers became the newly promoted manager. He started out fine but then as he went though management training, he became that boss people hate.

This sounds terrifying.

He was trying to flex his muscles by using all the usual tricks of setting me up to fail in order to fire me and a couple others. Why? I have no idea.

One day at work I had a major medical emergency that left the right half my body with no feeling at all, completely numb.

That is a devastating diagnosis. Maybe office work would be better.

That took me out of the office for several weeks while they used steroids to try and help sort out the issue. A couple months and a MRI and Spinal tap later they discovered I had Multiple Sclerosis.

After I was diagnosed, he decided to pull me out of the customer site and have me work in the office. My job had zero office work, I spent nearly a year in the office getting paid to do stupid mind numbing stuff while he tried to figure out how a way to fire me.

What does this manager have against him?

Since the initial issue was medical, it proved to be very difficult to fire me, so he would try to assign me to long term duties (like 6 months) 100’s of miles from home knowing I could not do them.

He also was nit picking any menial task I did not preform to his liking. He knew I could not travel as I have to see several doctors every month and I can only refill medications from my Local VA (Veterans Affairs) clinic.

Let’s see how HR handles the situation.

While he was trying to fire me, I was talking to HR about my disability and how its obvious that I could no longer perform my job for safety concerns.

That was the reason my boss pulled me into the office. I also informed HR about how the manager treated me and several other employees.

Getting paid to stay home sounds pretty good to me.

They had me do several things including sending my medical records to a company medical doctor to make sure I was being honest, I assume.

In the end, HR decided to put me out on pre-approved early retirement with short and long term disability. Now I will get paid from the company till I am 67.

At least the company realized that the manager was terrible.

All before he could get to the chance of firing me. Additionally, several other workers quit around the same time as me.

And a short time after I left he was replaced, by a different co-worker.

AITA for refusing to cover for my best friend after years of always helping her?

“I (22F) have been best friends with this girl for years, but there’s one situation that’s always stayed with me and I’m wondering if I overreacted.

A few years ago, before she started dating her now-boyfriend, she had a crush on him. She was too nervous to talk to him directly, so she created a fake social media account.

Uh oh…

The problem is, she used one of my email addresses to create it, so my name was tied to the account.

For months (around 4–6), she talked to him anonymously through that fake account. Eventually things ended badly between them, and he never found out who was actually behind it.

Later, they started talking through their real accounts and eventually got into a relationship. At some point he randomly asked her about my last name.

This is pretty ridiculous…

When she told him, he realized the fake account had been connected to my email and assumed I was the one behind it.

She panicked because she was terrified he’d leave her if he found out the truth. She called me crying, apologizing, and asking what to do.

I told her she could let him believe it was me.

She explained to him that I had made the fake account, that she hadn’t known about it at first, and that we’d already had a huge fight over it. None of that was true, but I agreed because I didn’t want her relationship to fall apart.

This really wasn’t fair…

Even though I technically gave her permission, I felt awful afterward. It felt like I’d taken the blame for something I never did. I was hurt that she’d put me in that position in the first place.

We stayed distant for a while, but eventually repaired our friendship.

Months later, she knitted a sweater for her boyfriend. She couldn’t tell her parents it was for him, so she told them it was a gift for me instead.

This is so weird…

She asked me to meet up because she wanted to take photos pretending to give me the sweater for her parents, but she was actually planning to hand it to her boyfriend afterward.

The moment she told me, I got that same feeling I’d had before that I was only being included because she needed me to cover for her again.

I made an excuse and didn’t go.

We’re still friends now, but our friendship has never really felt the same since then.
