    <title>GILDA Blu-ray Review: The Atypical Noir Gets a Fresh Restoration</title>
    <description>

        <img src="https://screenanarchy.com/assets_c/2026/04/gilda 1-thumb-200x200-103413.jpg" width="200" height="200" style="float: left; margin-right: 10px;"/>

     Probably like many people of my and slightly older generations, I was first introduced to&nbsp;Gilda&nbsp;from a scene in&nbsp;The Shawshank Redemption, during which the prisoners are watching the film and one insists that his friend pause in asking a request until the titular character is introduced via a famous hair flip and verbal quip. I had already seen some Rita Hayworth films, and yet it took me years to see the film that introduced, or re-introduced her, to a wider public.&nbsp; Criterion Collection have reissued Spine #795 with a new 4K restoration, Blu-ray (there is still the DVD for those who prefer that version), and while&nbsp;Gilda, directed by Charles Vidor, is something of an atypical film noir, it is worth both this restoration and its place...

     Austrian-German filmmakers Elsa Kremser and Levin Peter's fiction debut reworks social drama conventions into a psychologically driven, docu-fiction hybrid centred on an unstable relationship shaped by loneliness, death and an implied autocratic backdrop.

     Due to unexpected technical issues and an equally frustrating amount of time resolving those issues we found ourselves crunched for time to get full coverage of the Unnamed Footage Film Festival.&nbsp; &nbsp; No thanks to these time constraints and other obligations that have to be fulfilled we offer up a taster&rsquo;s menu of reviews of the five films we managed to fit in once the technology gods became bored of playing havoc with our digital infrastructure at home.&nbsp; &nbsp; Back on track we focused on which world premieres were available to us from the festival. We also wanted to see one particular film that was having its U.S. premiere because it was an award winner at a festival that we have had very close ties...

     Co-created by Juri Rechinsky and Mario Hainzl, the film constructs a first-person docu-experiment in which body-camera footage across multiple continents reframes notions of everyday life through contrasting conditions of normalcy.

    <title>FACES OF DEATH Interview: Daniel Goldhaber and Isa Mazzei on IP, Censorship, and Horror History</title>

     One of a pair of character posters for Kane Parson&#39;s upcoming, creepy-pasta meets liminal terror horror film, Backrooms, that places Academy Award-nominated actors into some unorthodox and tight framing.&nbsp;&nbsp; The original poster for the big-screen blow up of the YouTube series of mystery-box meets by way of found footage viral videos with a dedicated cult following, perhaps leaned too far and too clean into negative space, to the point of being novel, but rather boring. This one, which has more texture, more grain, and a distressed&nbsp;Renate Reinsve, with unkempt hair, fingernails of unequal length, pushed into the sickly yellow wallpaper that is the hallmark of the series, is a far better use of said negative space, and you feel the negative here more fulsome, more...
