We just found out that our series The What Is! won the Gold Remi under the Best Political Commentary for a television series category at Worldfest in Houston. GLUTTON SIZED NEWS - "The What Is" has just been nominated for a "Best Political Commentary" Remi Award at Worldfest 09' in Houston. We've been honoured along side "Henry Kissinger: Secrets of a Superpower" - don't ask.

The What Is!: Mission Status: Week One

So the show finally debuted on ichannel and we're getting some great feedback from everyone. "It's about time our generation got a show!" seems to be the concensus. We're going to do our best to try and provide everybody with a chance to have their say. Let's be honest anyone who just goes out and claims to be the spokesperson of a generation is either a douchebag or Pepsi. Sorry that was redundant. We're not saying we speak for everyone but we are saying we do deserve a chance to speak.

Oh, and just incase you thought I was faking this cause a recent eye weekly article about the show proved I'm by no means cool.

" Speerin’s rent is mostly paid with a day job at the CN Tower — preferring to stay away from the film-related grunt work of his peers in favour of escorting tourists up the elevator. Little do they know he not only aspires to be the next Bill Maher — if not the next Bill Hicks — but that he actually is getting the chance to play that role on TV, riffing on issues of millennial discontent."

So, now you know my day job, please feel free to drop by and come up the elevator, be sure to ask me "what ocean is that?" when pointing to Lake Ontario.

Speaking of Press the Toronto Sun also gave our show a shout out this week.

" The What Is! has an intriguing mandate, as it uses comedic bits and panel discussions to focus on how the current 25-and-under generation -- the "Millenials" -- often are dismissed by mainstream media as the dumbest generation ever."
"...Sometimes The What Is! descends into bashing back at older generations, and those bits are the lamest parts of the show. But conceptually speaking, it's worth checking out..."

We hope the baby boomer generation forgives us for being "lame" by giving them the digs. If they do, we'll forgive baby boomers for never being able to spell "Millennial" despite inventing the term for us.

All kidding aside, we want to thank both reporters for supporting our show, since it's not an easy show to get made and we appreciate their help in getting the word out. Channels think the only content our generation will watch is half naked anorexic women cage fighting or pretty boys waxing poetic in California - wow, I just got why the Hills is so popular.

We did this show to say - seriously we're not as dumb as you think we are and a lot of our generation has stopped watching tv altogether because YOU DON'T GIVE US AN ALTERNATIVE!

The What Is: Premieres Tonight!

As you watch the show tonight (ichannel - 7:30 pm et) keep in mind for young producers to get a show like this on the air, you must go through some pretty ridiculous focus groups and suggestions. Watch as host Dan Speerin and Producer Alan So have to deal with some `notes` from slightly older focus groups.

We're back with all new episodes of The What Is this February!

Sorry for not updating the blog but we've been busy since the What Is first aired.

Thanks to all your views on myspace and word of mouth, ichannel received so many great comments and emails for our election special last year, we were asked to continue the series! That means we can afford rent! It also means that finally we can bring a new opinion forward of our own generation, you know besides the one where we're glorified ipod holders.

We've been on an extended Summer vacation but we were working on some things and now we're back!.The first is our new show called "The What Is". If you liked our short series Twixters, you'll like this.

Our new show "Cynically Tested's: The What Is - Election 08'" is an election special aimed at our generation and we attempt to explain why we don't vote. For more info on the show click the logo.

So, if you're our friends over at facebook and YouTube - you know that Dan and Wes the co-creators of Twixters were confirmed as Speakers at the Millennials Conference at the Royal York in Toronto. They will be talking about "The Five Things You Should Know About Our Generation". The guys will be using some of your responses that you emailed to us through YouTube and Facebook and will let the marketing community know not to ignore us. Or maybe to ignore us? Depending on your level of cynicism.

As we've blogged about Millennials is the newest term for our generation and who better to talk about Millennials than the only comedy series on television about Millennial Life? Remember Quarterlife doesn't count because it's not a comedy on purpose.

Narrator Mood: Chipper or something less lame sounding.

Okay, so sometimes Narrator's do press. The picture above is from today's Toronto Star. The article gives our take on our generation and also reminds you that this winter is "winterlicious" apparently. (see picture) Winterlicious indeed -Freedom of the press! They are free to have as many ad's as they like.

So, incase you only believe in reading one thing a day and we're filling you're quota - here's the Coles' Notes. Twixters is the must watch show of the year, if you can find the show. Okay, so it's not a review of the show but more of a review of our generation. I give us two thumbs up and Peter Travers calls us "generationtastic - a comic romp!" - Okay, so it's not a review of our generation either but sometimes Narrators hate Peter Travers.

The article showcases our characters and view point of a generation and takes a good first step in all of us reclaiming Time Magazine's label of "Twixters". It also takes a good first step in hopefully never having to hear the term "Millennial" again. I for one refuse to be called anything that conjures up images of Robbie Williams - by the way the picture on the left won "creepiest lifeguard picture ever taken 1995". The picture on the right was taken from the Annie Leibovitz book "Pictures lit from under rock".

Where was I? Oh right, Peter Travers really bothers me - "Big Willie has no problem holding the screen"... - Peter Travers on I am Legend. Yes, he really wrote that - fact check me I dare you.

But I digress... and leave you with this quote that will live on forever in the Toronto Star microfilm library or for the next seven days in the online search category, whichever comes first.

Finally, after a long Christmas and New Year rest - I'm back with news (and by back with news - I mean- someone told me I have to keep blogging on this thing... so I said - well give me some news then, I'm not a typing monkey!).

Anyways, it's premiering tonight on Bite TV at 9 pm. So, try and watch it for me.. you know since we're friends on Facebook or Myspace or You Tube or Blogger - you're basically obligated to now.

Twixters by Day, Narration College by Night?

Narrator Mood: Broke

"Sometimes Narrators need to take up second jobs".

Narrating the lives of six people is demanding but it doesn't always pay the bills. When narrators need to make money they do what all artist people do - commercials.. sorry I meant teach.

On the issue of teaching, it is said that "those who can't, teach". What should be said is "those who can, sometimes need more money".

Teaching is an interesting profession because you spend half your life in school as a sheep and the other half in school as a sheep herder. Plus, narration work is harder and harder to get, now that Morgan Freeman does all film narration and Keifer Sutherland does all commercial narration. That leaves three jobs for myself, James Earl Jones and whatever the name of that J. Peterman guy is.

With all this being said I reluctantly took a job as a teacher this summer for a local Narration and Performance College. I didn't want to teach but I did want to do the commercial for the college and to get that gig I have to teach apparently. I know what you're thinking and yes, it does cut into my time narrating the lives of the Twixters. Not all of the characters appreciate my "me time".

"Sometimes, Narrators feel sad"

I'll let you in on a little secret, "creative" colleges don't want you to succeed, in fact you just showing up there is a problem for the faculty. Why? Well look at this way, the most successful of my students will end up competing with me for jobs and the least successful of my students will probably teach and compete with me for a job.

Narrator Mood: Angry, Bored, Angsty, quarterlife crisis-y... Hmm... maybe I'm feeling Millennial?

Okay, so sometimes Narrators take long weekends. Unfortunately something disturbed me so much this weekend I had to share it (and yes that picture does have to do with it.)

It seems as though society has a new obsession which revolves around defining our generation. Round up the usual suspects - Boomers? Well sort of... okay, hmm... what generation was before boomers again? It's been awhile since I saw the land before time...

The Culprit: That guy above! Meet Morley Safer of 60 minutes -it's either him or an artists rendering of what Gilbert Gottfried will look like in 120 years. I'll leave it up to you.

With that being said - does everybody know what time it is? (ok who just made the Home Improvement reference?... seriously that's never funny)

It's New DEFINITION TIME!

New Definition that will terribly describe our generation and totally miss the point: MILLENNIAL

And what are Millennials you ask? Well to 60 Minutes they're 15 minutes of filler, to us they're a boomers wet dream of what our generation is - useless, selfish, helpless, co-dependent "praise hounds" - yes Virginia, they actually do call us "Praise Hounds".

Underage Girl : "Do you like this dress on me?"

Morley: "yo, stop praise houndin' baby"

Okay, I'm pretty sure Morley made it up.

Some of you might not know this but...I like to do a bit of remixing in my spare time. I'm no Daft Punk but Morley Safer is no Kayne West, so it all evens out. So, let me take this minute to let you know my new video has just dropped. Meh.. even in print it still sounds wrong.

Narrator Mood: Overworked.

Hi, I'm a narrator and this is a blog.

They told me the key to a successful blog is to be blunt and honest. Wow, that's going to be hard.

Truth is - I didn't really want to blog. Hell, I'm not really sure how I even narrate a blog ...but it's a Canadian comedy show and they couldn't afford to keep paying a staff writer so, ta-da the first ever Narrator blog.

You may be asking yourself "what the hell is this?" if you were asking that - read the first line - it's a blog. (sighs, narrating is much easier on tv.)

In the coming weeks this blog will feature my thoughts on narrating a new generation Time Magazine tried to label "twixters".

Narrator Note: That means they think we're "betwixt" aka "stuck" between adolescence and adulthood.

Plus, it's a catchier title on a magazine cover than "twenty-somethings stuck between adolescence and adulthood according to out of touch writer".

Pop-up segue -Which brings us to the show that employs me.

You see, I spend my days narrating the lives of six twenty-somethings for the new comedy series "twixters" -------------------------- (insert shameless plug).

Oh, I suppose that means I need to actually plug the show. Okay I'm not getting paid enough to do this. While I call my agent - just watch this trailer, I'm sure it will help you get caught up.
