Swatch: Iconic Effect ~ Princess Drops

Guess what?! Finally we have indie polish makers popping up in the UK! *Fist pump*! One of these being Iconic Effect. I recently bought this polish, Princess Drops, and another, Pea Soup, from their first collection. Princess Drops actually sold out (2 days before I got paid, I was waiting to order!) but the girls from Iconic Effect were so lovely and helpful and told me if I ordered the other polish I wanted the would sort out Princess Drops for me the week after when they received more supplies ♥

On to the polish! Princess drops is a pretty pastel glitter polish in a clear base with a mixture of hearts, stars and flowers, slightly smaller diamonds, hexagons and tiny flecks. There's so much going on in here! The formula is fairly thin but I found this really helped me to get the big pieces positioned nicely. I've got one coat of the glitter on here and didn't require too much fishing or fiddling around.

For some reason I went a bit mad decided to put it over this ~~horrible~~ yellow I got in a set from H&M. I think it worked pretty nicely though and looks really summery.

There are only a couple of colours left in Iconic Effects etsy shop but they are currently planning there next collection so follow them on facebook for news and sneak peaks!

Swatch: Lush Lacquer ~ Birthday Cake

I think this has got to be one of my fave indie polishes, it was one of the first ones I bought and with a name like Birthday Cake how could I resist.

I've got two coats on here. It would probably have a bit more 'pop' with some white undies but I like it as is, a bit more subtle if that's possible?!

Lush Lacquer have got loads of gorgeous crazy neon-ness going on at the moment, it's a shame that with all the UK shipping troubles and steep price increases for postage I've been put off buying stuff for a while.

Yay, Sinful Colors available at boots in the UK?! And in the 3 for 2 offer, don't mind if I do. I was actually away in Nottingham when I was lucky enough to spot these as they weren't being stocked in the Leeds city centre store. Here's the first one I tried, Glass Pink

This is 3 coats, it's really sheer so you'd need something underneath if you didn't want visible nail line. It's so pretty though, beautiful and shimmery.

I managed to snag Cinderella as well which is the one I'd really been lusting after, not been in the mood for blue nails though so haven't tried that one out yet,

Swatch: Nails Inc ~ Primrose Hill

Yet another of my nails inc lucky pack polishes here, Primrose Hill. A gorgeous grey/purple quite similar to Barry M's Dusky Mauve although a bit paler maybe?

This swatch is from a while ago, can't remember how many coats I used. Really love this shade though, for the first time ever I think I had a stranger compliment the colour!

Portal Companion Cube Dress

So here's what has been taking up all my spare time the last couple of weeks! My local Lolita group have been planning a themed fandom/geek meet for a while and it finally came around last weekend. I decided that I wanted to make a dress based on the companion cube from the Portal video games. It took a bit longer than I expected, I had to draft a new bodice block, but it was so worth it. I love it!!

And the meet was so much fun, everyone put loads of effort into their outfits, I loved seeing them all. I hope we'll have another fandom meet one day, I already have more ideas. Here's me wearing my dress.

I learnt a bunch of new techniques making this too - box pleats, encased shirring, modifying my basic bodice block. Usually I'm fed up with sewing after finish a project (probably because I usually leave things too late and end up having to rush *stress*) but not this time! I cant wait to do more.

Swatch: Nails Inc ~ Berkeley Mews

Urrgh, so I've been a pretty bad blogger lately! I've been really struggling with my energy levels and was ill again last week. But I haven't given up, I'm still here!!

After nearly two weeks of nude nails I fancied something really dark and bold so picked Berkeley Mews as my next nails inc to try.

This almost black blue has a subtle shimmery pop under the right light and only needs one coat for full coverage. I feel like this would look great with some stamping over it but don't think I'm going to have time this week unfortunately. There needs to be more hours in the day.

In other news I've started a sewing project! I'm making a Portal Companion Cube dress for the Leeds Lolitas Fandom/Geek meet in April, really hope I can get it finished in time, need to get a move on with it.

Swatch: Nails Inc ~ Gatwick

Gatwick from Nails Inc is a classic red shade with a matte twist. This isn't something I'd normally buy as I dont really see the point of specific matte polishes when I have a matte top coat. I was happy to have the oppertunity to try a matte finish from a different brand though.

I have one coat on my nails here. This is after a days wear and you can see there's already some tip wear and chipping on my index finger. It was also pretty messy to get off, red everywhere!

Despite the negatives I still like this polish, it's a great shade.

Nails Inc Lucky Dip Haul

I think it's safe to say this is the most I've ever spent on nail polish in one go before. Last week Nails Inc was running one of their lucky dip promotions, it's such a bargain, 7 polishes for £17 - so that's less than £2.50 each when they normally retail for £11+. I got two sets, Metallics and Special Effects, and since that was close to the threshold for free shipping I popped one of the sale polishes in my basket too.

So here's what I got!

Metallics: berkeley mews, cadogan lane, providence crescent, stafford terrace, montrose place, primrose hill, lanesborough place

Special Effects: kensington palace (magnetic), gatwick (matte), abbey road (holographic), london town (magnetic), the wyndham (glitter), camden town (crackle), farringdon (glitter crackle)

Also not pictured, my 'free shipping' polish - swiss cottage.

Can't wait to try these out, very happy with what I got!

Swatch: w7 ~ Moondust

Right, back to business! Today I have a simple swatch of Moondust from w7.

It's a silver glitter with red and blue particles that give it a kind of faux scatter holo effect. I'm wearing two coats here.

It's very pretty but I get the feeling it's going to be a nightmare to get off. It has a rough finish despite the topcoat I put on. Moondust is the perfect name for it though, I feel like I have astronaut nails!

Hello! Sorry for no nail posts this week. Got hit at the beginning of the week with a cold and just didn't have the energy to do my nails, they were actually naked for several days! I'm feeling better now and my nails have colour again.
