My wife Samantha and I (Dean) met in 2019 and quickly fell in love. We are both Seattle natives and although I had bounced around the greater area and done some traveling with my family neither of us had really gotten out of the city. Neither of us were quite sure what path we wanted to take but we knew we needed to see more of the world, so we took every chance we had to hit the road. Our first year together we had a few (somewhat mis)adventures around the PNW. After a year of getting really wet, cold, hungry, uncomfortable, tired, and grumpy we started to figure out what we were doing.

In our second year we broke out of Washington and managed to log over 10,000 miles on the road. Beyond the formidable Tetons to the east and across the southwest deserts, along the endless beaches of California and through the foggy looming forests of Oregon. We ran from storms in New Mexico, bought cowboy boots in Texas (you wouldn’t believe how sharp the grass is), scaled the treacherous Colorado Rockies, survived the searing heat of Utah, and swam in a hidden oasis in Arizona. In this year we broke a car, got a cat, got engaged, switched jobs, got married, got a dog, switched jobs again, caught Covid (twice for Sam), and began to understand what path we had chosen.

The sharp contrast we felt between the freedom and fulfilment of life on the road and the stress and claustrophobia of life in the city became more and more tangible by the day. We knew we needed to find a way to live our lives on the road, we also knew we wanted to start a family and be able to provide a comfortable and functional life. We have been married for almost a year now and our goals are finally starting to take form. This blog is a way for us to keep track of our progress as well as a way to share our experiences, struggles, thoughts, knowledge, and goals with anyone and everyone who might benefit from them. Our ultimate goals are to build a business that provides goods and services related to sustainable off grid living and a community of likeminded people.

We hope you will join us on our adventure.
