Decorating the tree!

Well, Guillermo and I spent Sunday trying to decorate the tree Brian put up this week.

Afterall, how does that holiday classic go?

"Oh Christmas tree,

Oh Christmas tree,

ummmm...won't...you be...my neighbor??"

That doesn't sound quite right. Anyhow, we thought we could best help by unloading the boxes filled with decorations, so we put on our festive holiday socks and dug in!

Blech, kinda dusty in there...maybe we'll just work on untangling the lights!

Oh man, these things suck!

Umm....Guillermo?

We finally got to the globes, giving them a good ole monkey-shine. Took a little longer than usual, you know how G-mo is: he kept calling them "magic shiny-balls" and was quite enamored with them...the red ones in particular.

Despite his quirks, I have to give credit where credit it due: this was an AWESOME idea, Guillermo!

Oh well, in the end, I guess Jen and Brian decorated all of the tree, but I am pretty sure we had more fun!

OH, and of course, we put the BEST decorations on last...

PS..and if you look closely, you can see our enormous "pine doodles" : ()

Deathstorm 2009

Today we are experiencing Deathstorm 2009. So far there has been rain, sleet, a bit of hail and snow. We even have a blizzard watch until tomorrow evening.

So, what is a minkee to do?!? We obviously can't play outside and it seems that with this weather all we want to do is snuggle!

We are breaking out the raspberry cocoa and getting refamiliar with our favorite show Lost. This is going to be some night! Get ready for thunder snow and minkee hoots!

New Yarn!

This year for Christmas, Jen is hand making all of her gifts. Some jewelry, some cooking and some serious knitting. So what do you need for serious knitting???? Serious yarn! This package came in the mail the other day.

Being the curious minkee that I am I had to check and see what was inside.

OMG!!!! Look at all this yarn!!!!! Jen got it at yarncountry.com and got quite the bargin! So what better to do than put this stuff on our heads!

100% Wool feels nice. I think we need to be remade out of this stuff. So soft and luxurious.

Its good to be a minkee!

This is our favorite holiday because not only do we get to go trick or treating but we get to try on costumes all day long. AWESOME!!!!!

So, we are still trying to figure out what to go as for our Halloween 'Trick or Drinking' event. Thanks Natballs for the idea of going as humans. We may have to give that a try by the end of the week.

First off we have a couple of muppet inspired outfits. Bernardo here looks like some Foo Man Choo minkee. I laugh every time I see this photo.

However, Guillermo looks like a gay Ned Flanders here.....

What to do for Halloween......

It is time again for our favorite holiday of the year where presents are not involved. HALLOWEEN!!!!! We are unsure of what we want to go as this year for 'trick or drinking' so we thought we should bring back some classic outfits over the last year and a half.

First off we have our 'Beauty Shop' photo shoot. It was pretty hard to get some good pics since we are minkees and have little fur on the tops of our heads. We rocked it though!

And double as shower caps during suds and bubbles times......

They can be ear muffs.....

Or even shoes.....

But you better snatch them and throw them away quickly or else you are going to be living with very stinky minkees.

Things you forget over the summer

Since going back to work I have been a little lax on putting my craft stuff away. Last night I was working on a cute little octopus and left some of the stuffing out. Oops. I came home to find Guillermo staring longingly at Bernardo's new do.

I keep hearing the lyrics to John Lennon's 'Jealous Guy' when I look at those two. But come on, Bernardo does look pretty awesome!

Guillermo decided he needed to show Bernardo up and go punk rock.

I really hope those don't color his head...

I wonder what these two will be up to tomorrow.

Hello! Guillermo Gray here. Today I am going to play a trick on my buddy Bernardo! It is called 'Fart Tube'.

Step one: You find a container on a shelf and get an idea.....

Step 2: You uncap the container, put it up to your butt, and muster up a few tangy toots.

Step 3: Give the tube to your buddy and tell him to open it.
Step 5: Get your buddy to open the tube and take a whiff.....
Step 6: Watch your buddy's eyes roll as he passes out from the noxious fumes.
Step 7: Quickly recap before you p a s s o u t.
Make sure you complete Step 7 quickly or else this may happen to you.

I wonder if Jackass will take our post to heart and make Stev-o sniff some Knoxville butt.....

The Flying Bunn?

We found an interesting new creature in the apartment the other day. We are calling him 'the flying bunn' due to those wacky ears. I bet if he flapped them hard enough he would take flight.

Just in case he did that we found some box seats to watch the events. These things are made from styrofoam so after the flying lesson we plan on floating in the bathtub for a while.
Sometimes its good to be a monkey!

Last night Jen and Brian when over to Jen's folks for dinner. When they got there Jen got this minkee purse as a gift from her parents. Jen says it is a coin purse, I say it is awesome! I have been struttin' my stuff around here wearing this puppy all day. I do look fetching if I do say so myself.

Being the curious sort of creature I had to check this thing out from all angles. I doesn't fit much, just half a muzzle. Can't blame a minkee for trying. I think it is pretty cool that Jen's folks are keeping the minkee tradition alive.

Well, I am off to find more uses for this thing. If you have any ideas let me know. Oh and FYI, I already have used it as a fart holder so you will need to come up with something different.

Mr. Kitty

Jen finally made a creature we can get along with. We are calling him Mr. Kitty and have been playing with him/her for the last couple of days.

Mr. Kitty is pretty nice. He/she likes to sit in my lap and purr. Every once in a while it gets rather mad at me when I toot. In fact it runs and hides and I have to go and find it..... Sorry Mr. Kitty, I am a gassy minkee.
I hate to break it to you guys but Mr. Kitty is leaving us next Thursday. It is a birthday present for a friend's daughter. Sorry, if you really like it maybe I can another but you have to promise not to fart on it!

Maybe that isn't such a good idea. I don't think I can not not fart on it.....

Rainy Day Blues

It started storming while we were still in bed sleeping. Lost of thunder and lightning and an all day downpour. What are a couple of minkees supposed to do?

First of all we headed out to the sunporch and helped Jen work on her puzzle. Not really a minkee thing, but what else is there to do. Plus do you know how hard it is to put puzzle pieces in place with nipple hands?!? It is really hard.
Then we headed into the house to check out the aquariums. This is the new Beta, Blanco. He was named that because when he was first brought home he was pure white. As he ages he becomes more red everyday.

In the other aquarium all of the fish were hiding so we had to find something else.
We figured that since it is so cold outside that we would don some hats and settle down with a good book.
We picked up Babar's Yoga for Elephants. There were some funny looking poses in there. We did try some out (in the privacy of the basement) and had a day with it.
Tomorrow it will be a better day. 91 and humid. We can work on our minkee fros a

nd play in front of the fan. God times, good times!

Minkee Test Kitchen - Iron Chef inspiration

Last night on Iron Chef the theme ingredient was Bananas. AWESOME!!!!! That inspired us to head into the kitchen and see what we can concoct. Bernardo, started out by mashing up some Banana Cheerios with the meddler he found in the drawer. After they get nice and grainy we had Jen coat some banana pieces with it and fry them up. (we aren't allowed near the oven...)

Last night they also featured a 'new' cooking technique where the food is vacuum sealed and placed in hot water. We couldn't think of what to cook, but our summer resident frog had an idea.....
He hopped his body into this Ziploc vacuum seal bag and sealed himself up.
Afterward he went for a nice, relaxing dip in some warm water. Not too warm though! We didn't want him to cook. I don't think frog and banana go together!
For an appetizer we created Banana shaved ice. We took some of the Popsicles from the freezer and saved them down and put a little banana Cheerio crunch on top. It was a hit.
Here is the close up pre crunch. Yummo!
Last but not least was a banana martini with Carmel sauce. We added some class by topping it off with a strawberry.
Bernardo had to come over and make sure it was top quality.
Unfortunately it won't make it to any competition because we kinda drank it. Don't put anything banana in front of these minkees because we can't help ourselves.

Speaking of which, where did the banana Cheerios go?????

It finally happened!

As most of you know we are monkeys obsessed with bananas. Well tonight on Iron Chef the secret ingredient was of all things bananas which = awesome! We wish we were Iron Chef Flay making those delicious entrees. The banana ice cream with hazelnut brittle was to die for. We be jealous minkees tonight. Maybe we will have to cook in the kitchen tomorrow!

But their habits will stay the same. As soon as I brought up warm laundry this happened. I just turned my back for a few seconds, heard the giggling, and knew something was up. I can see that some things will never change. Never let a monkey near the warm laundry!

Ahh.... We're back

We have been away at a Spa vacation. We had all kinds of relaxing treatments to make us nice and tight. There was the seaweed body wrap to shrink our tummies, a little Botox around the muzzles and mud masks. It was awesome. We got used to a lot of pampering!

Thanks to our vacation I lost several ounces of excess fluff. As an added bonus Jen made us some handsome summer scarves. I think it makes me look fetching.
While away, I also got a tummy tuck and a butt lift. I still have my round ampleness, but not quite so ample. I really like my scarf too. Maybe we can work on getting it untangled.
Expect to hear more of our adventures soon.

Playing with yarn

When you are a monkey sometimes you have to make your own fun. Today Guillermo and I were playing in the yarn basket and found something to play with. I kinda have a Fu Man Chu mustache going on with some Flock Of Sea Gulls hair. Guillermo, well.....

Looks like Ned Flanders if he were a Muppet. He thought he looked so AWESOME that he refused to take it off for the rest of the day.
Sometimes it is good to make your own fun. Dive into your 'yarn basket' and see what you come up with! Have fun!

Holy Hail B-Man!

What on Earth is that sound overhead?!?!?! We better get our protective hats on and take cover on the couch!

Now that we are safe, lets take a look outside and see what all the ruckus is about.

A 20 minute hail storm with golfball sized hail. It was very scary. Jen was at the local Ben Franklin doing some crafty shopping and the power went out in the store and everything!

We were lucky we only had one broken window and dimpled siding. Our neighbors didn't fair so well. Hopefully our next storm won't be as bad.

Rich Corinthian Leather

Oooohhhh La la. Jen got some lovely leather shoes the other day and it was time to play! At first we thought bumper cars, but they were too hard to get around in like this.

So, we opted for stadium seating for a movie. The shoes are oh so cute, but make great minkee sized chairs.
Especially when you get your ball and can keep your head up high for premium television viewing.
We truly hope she doesn't want these shoes back anytime soon. They are super comfy and perfectly sized just for us.

Plus the smell of leather is so intoxicating. Mmmmmmm. Make sure to see who else is playing on Candid Carrie's Fx4!

This week on Two Knit Monkeys Vol. 5

This little guy is the dreaded book worm. Most of us enjoy curling up and reading a good book. Well, this guy like to curl up and EAT a good book! Beware of those chompers!

Bookworms come in all kinds of varieties from the more common silverfish and book lice to the less common termites, moths, cockroaches, carpet beetles, biscuit beetles, drugstore beetles and many more beetle varieties.
While the classic bookworm is primarily responsible for tunneling holes through pages of older manuscripts it is the larva that are actually the bibliophile. It spends up to five years devouring pulpy leaves of fact and fiction.
After spending those years of chewing away on your precious books it goes through metamorphosis spreads its wings and flies away.

This last microbe is a tribute to Jen's mother who is a retiring librarian at her former elementary school. Congratulations, you have earned it!

This week on Two Knit Monkeys Vol. 4

We would like to introduce you to the life of the party, beer yeast. Do you like the crown on his head? This little guy has been around more than 6,000 years making all kinds of tasty beers and breads. Mmmm Mmmm, I'm getting thirsty!

One of these little guys can reproduce and in a mere 6 hours have more than 1,000,000 cells. It's latin name, Saccharomyces cerevidiae, actually means "sugar fungus of the beer".
We decided to make him feel at home and sampled some of his brethren in these fine tasty brews....
Beer yeast here. These two guys couldn't handle me. After a beer and a half they threw off their lab coats and danced around like they were at a rave. Dr. G kept singing the Ghostbuster theme song and Professor B was telling me his life story. I hope they feel o.k. in the morning!

Meet the dreaded fat cell. He may be cute but he is a dangerous fellow. Did you know that the average human body has 40 billion of these little guys who just want to make you fat.

While fat cells have their benefits such as keep you warm, help transport Vitamins A, D, E and K throughout your body and they can keep you alive for months if the need ever arose. Check out the Fat head on Dr. G!
Professor B wants to make sure you know that it takes 3,500 calories to make one pound of fat. That may sound like a lot, but if you over eat by just 5% you can put on a pound a month. Now that is a lot of fat to chew on!
The good news it that if you consume just a little less than you need, those missing calories add up too and your little fat cells will be happy to slim down to provide them. Even better if you can stomach some exercise you can burn up to ten of these puppies in one minute! That is some statistic!

While you may want to lose a few of these guys (we all do) just cut a few of them out of your diet, exercise a bit more and they will be eager to leave. Even if they are incredibly cute, sometimes you gotta get rid of them.
