I haven’t posted recipes on this blog, but I’m going to start with my new all-time favorite cake – red velvet. A colleague passed this along – it’s Cake Man Raven’s recipe and it is DE-LISH! I could suck the frosting with a straw. It is so moist and yummy…it’s best not to think of how it will ruin your diet:) I usually make cupcakes instead of an 8″ cake. Just cook for 22 minutes instead of 25-30.

MAKES ONE 8″ CAKE
According to legend red velvet cake was invented in the 1950s at Oscar’s in New York’s Waldorf-Astoria. However, Raven Dennis of <a href="MAKES ONE 8" CAKE According to legend red velvet cake was invented in the 1950s at Oscar's in New York's Waldorf-Astoria.
La Scarola is, dare I say, the best Italian restaurant in Chicago. We first heard of this restaurant from a florist that we were looking at for our wedding. It is about 1/2 a block from our old apartment in River North, so we decided to check it out. The atmosphere is very unassuming and small. Everyone is packed into the space and the walls are covered in pictures of world and Chicago-famous people. The food is real – nothing is fancy, it’s all just good, homemade Italian food. We went here for our rehearsal dinner in May 2009 and had a great time and the food was amazing, as always. Definitely check out La Scarola when you are in the River North area – you won’t be disappointed!
